an algerian student. this was shot by kyle on vacation with his wife and we just talked with him on face time. >> i saw two things of smoke. i'm guessing the gun powder from the two shots we heard. and then probably two or three police officers surrounding a guy who was on the floor at this point. and as time went on, i could see blood coming out of his leg. >> in the meantime it was frightening for the 600 people inside notre dame cathedral. police told everyone to show their hands so they could be sure no one had a weapon. former president bill clinton's united nations ambassador happened to be inside. she tweeted that people were calm during the lockdown. parisian say the police and the attacker who was hit with the hammer will survive. they started the terror investigation. the terror threat level remains the same as it's been since the string of attacks in 2015.

the highest possible. larry and alma? >> thank you. >> it happened just after 6:00 p.m. yesterday along slope boulevard near the city zoo. police are worried a second child in the car may still be at risk. abc7 news reporter vic lee joins us live with the latest on the developing story. vic? >> reporter: well, alma, police are releasing only a little bit of information tonight, presumably they are still looking for the couple who abandoned that child. and, by the way, that child is now with protective -- children's protective services. its offices are here on otis street. now, here is what we have learned so far. it happened last night shortly after 6:00. the couple who may be the parents left the child, who sources tell us is about 5 years old here at the rest stop at great highway and slope boulevard. the same sources tell us the couple is from arkansas and that there may be another child still with them. this has, of course, a lot of people around the beach talking about the abandonment.

everyone we spoke with spoke with anger and disbelief. you will now hear from two parents of small children. >> i cannot imagine how a parent could do that to their kid. crazy. >> maybe they have another child, the child saw that you dumped that baby, that child is like, what if i'm next. that makes my blood boil. no one ever should have endured that, that poor child. >> reporter: so, again, police are still searching for that couple. we can only presume that that 5-year-old child is cooperating with police, is telling police a little about or as much as he can. we called our sister station, by the way, in arkansas to see if they received any missing children's report. and they do monitor those reports around the state. they tell us they have not. so, that is the very latest on this story. vic lee, abc7 news. >> thank you, vic. an uber driver has been arrested for attacking a passenger in his

car. police say 42-year-old leonid beker was driving the victim to oakland. he got into the back seat of the car and assaulted her. he was arrested later at his home in san francisco. >> three people were killed during a gun battle inside a fresno home this morning. a fourth person is expected to survive. fresno's police chief says two men barged into the home at 8:00 and exchanged gun fire with two of the residents. one of the residents was armed with an ar-15 rifle. that gun battle continued outside the house. the surviving victim was a 30-year-old resident of the house. police are investigating whether this incident is gang-related. and we have new details on the case of the australian durit outside a san francisco hotel last friday. today 34-year-old david ma ril owe was assigned or a rained, i should say, for the death of 33-year-old matthew base. ma ril owe pleaded not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter, assault and battery. the district attorney says both

men were out, they were drinking, they got into an argument. he punched him who fell down the hotel stairs and that is what caused his death. >> the two men charged in the deadly ghost ship fire are both behind fires, but so far only one is in custody here in the bay area. >> max harris, the creative director of the ghost ship is still in los angeles. the founder derek is in dub lunlin county jail. laura, still a lot of questions about this case. >> reporter: there are, larry. late this afternoon we heard from almena's attorney that they will have a press conference friday in san francisco. in the meantime, he is here being held on more than a million dollars bail. we understand he should arrive here in the next day or so. in the meantime, some are asking why more people weren't charged in this case. >> i think it is surprising that the landlord hasn't been charged. >> reporter: attorney christopher dolan represents

four of the families of the v x victims in the ghost ship fire. he believes they should have charged the owner of the warehouse along with the lead tenant shown here in exclusive video in lake county courthouse monday afternoon. >> she is a thoughtful person. in this case she got it wrong. >> we have completed our investigation. >> reporter: monday the d.a.'s office indicated its six-month long investigation was over, but wouldn't rule out the possibility of the more criminal charges. in charging almena and his associate maximum harris, the two men were intentionally deceptive about what was going on inside the ghost ship. >> they allowed individuals to live in the warehouse and deceive the police, the fire department, and the owners of the building to that fact. >> we have 40 organs and player pianos. >> reporter: shown here in a 2014 body camera video telling oakland police what is inside the warehouse, without mentioning people were living there.

it will rank 1 on the storm impact scale, a storm of light intensity arriving thursday bringing chance of light showers, mainly the north bay. that is where we'll see our greater rainfall total. under a tenth of an inch in most other locations. i'll give you a closer look at this storm and the week's wather coming up in just a few minutes. larry? >> all right, spencer, see you then. santa clara county charged a 49ers player with felony domestic violence. tramaine brock is accused of abusing his wife. police arrested brock april 5. the 49ers released him from the team the next day. he is facing up to five years in prison if convicted. >> a new domestic violence program in san francisco will help police find and assist the city's most at-risk victims. abc7 news was at the bay view district police station today where city leaders announce the initiative. it will help train officers to identify victims through a series of questions and put them

in immediate contact with domestic violence experts. a panel consisting of people across several agencies will meet once a month to discuss the most severe and at-risk cases. ⌞> we have a better chance of not only stopping that immediate cycle of violence, but the future violence that oftentimes we see associated with children who grew up in these abusive households. >> the pilot program is being tested in the bay view district. it is funded through a federal grant. >> voters in santa rosa today are deciding on the most expensive political campaign in the city's history, whether or not to enact rent control. measure c was passed by the city council in august of last year, but it still needs voter approval. it would cap rent increases by 3% each year for units built before 1995. opponents have out spent supporters by a margin of 7 to 1 on this controversial measure. voters are voting on measure d to levy a tax on marijuana use.

vote nerz sonoma county will also decide to raise an existing parcel tax to bring in almost $4 million a year for sonoma valley hospital. if increased voters would pay $250 per parcel. voters in a part of los angeles county are deciding on wh will represent them in congress two democrats vying for the role. attorney robert ahn and former state assemblyman jimmy gomez. both hoping to succeed javier who left his post. that position was left vacant by kamala harris when she moved on and was elected as u.s. senator. >> the walnut creek city council is taking up the issue of marijuana again tonight. flowers outside city hall make it look like anything can grow here, but no cannabis, please. they voted to ban growing and selling marijuana. tonight a final vote will be taken on smoking restrictions, making sure it is treated just like tobacco, no smoking means no smoking.

>> bart police today unveiled a new mapping feature that will allow the public to look up crimes that happen on the transit system online. the agency teaming up with crime mapping.com, that website will allow visitors to look up crimes that happen at or near a specific station. the transit district says the tra transparency initiative is happening at the agency. san francisco, oakland and san jose show their data on the website as well. >> a shake up at uber, the mass firing at headquarters. >> plus a big google expansion that could be a boon for san jose. might include thousands of new jobs. also. >> it's a lot about how to encourage particularly women in tech, which is a constant problem that we have. >> words of inspiration from michelle obama at the apple developers conference in san jose. >> at 4:10, a live look at the

uber has fired 20 employees following an investigation into systemic sexism at the san francisco company. that is according to several reports online. the announcement was made during a company-wide meeting this morning by a law firm hired by uber to investigate employee claims of harassment, discrimination and retaliation. 31 other employees have been placed into a training program. 7 were issued final warnings and 57 incidents are still under review. a separate independent investigation is being led by

former secretary general attorney eric holder. the company didn't name those terminated. >> google has its eyes on downtown san jose to create a second google plex. the mountain view company will turn 250 acres near the s.a.p. center and the cal train station into an office housing and entertainment hub. >> abc7 news reporter david louie is live at the site which will become a major job center. david. >> reporter: alma and larry, if that pig on the sign were real it might be squealing for joy over this proposal. right now it overlooks a site of a former sausage factory. in a few years tens of thousands of people could be working there if google can workout a deal. this was supposed to be the site of the proposed a's stadium. with that project dead, years of casual discussions between google and san jose started to get serious. >> the conversations have become more serious in the last year or so. when google made it very clear that they were focused on acquiring and assembling parcels

and the city's parcels would be instrumental in the division. >> reporter: formal negotiations to buy city land haven't started. google isn't laying out its plans in detail, however san jose officials say google is interested in building a 6 million square foot complex for research and development and for offices. that could mean thousands of new jobs coming to downtown. >> this is the type of development opportunity that creates jobs in the city of san jose, jobs equal tax revenue for the city of san jose which help create financial stability for the city of san jose who has had a very rough go of it compared to other cities in silicon valley. >> reporter: san jose's long envisioned the cal train station being the largest transit hub in the bay area. vta buses already serve the station. this is where a downtown bart station will terminate. high speed rail is also going to connect here. that's what appears to be attracting google. >> they understand their employees want to be part of an integrated community. they want to have access to the outdoors, they want to have mobility options, trains and buses and all those things.

so, it really will transform our landscape in downtown san jose. >> reporter: the city council will vote next tuesday about entering into an exclusive negotiating period with google. in san jose, david louie, abc7 news. >> well, if you can't beat them, join them. the national park service is turning to a phone app to help kids enjoy a popular san francisco destination. the app is called the agents of discovery. rangers at the maritime museum work with teachers to come up with fun facts about the ships at the hyde street pier. kids using the app get led around the park by a seagull that asks them questions and urges them to find clues. >> there is always kind of a thing between staying inside and playing a game on your computer and being out and experiencing and this is a way to meld those two experiences. you can play a computer game but you can be out and experiencing your national parks. >> the san francisco maritime museum is just one of two national parks included in the agents of discovery app. >> on to the warriors and coach

what's happening in the next few days? i've been focusing on the nba finals so -- >> i am, too. i have a watch party forecast. the weather is going to be so great i you might want to stand outside the arena and listen to the noise. no, you want to go in and see the game. let's look at live doppler 7. we have mostly sunny skies across the bay area right now. it's bright out there despite the presence of a few high clouds. and it's pretty mild. current temperature readings as we look along the embarcadero from the rooftop camera here at abc7, current temperature is generally in the 60s and 70s, a few 80s inland. these are our forecast fiechs. clouds increase tomorrow, clouds arrive thursday. cooler friday and saturday, temperatures well below average. 60 degrees in san francisco, 65 across the bay and oakland. hayward, and fremont, 66. 71 in san jose, 71 san ramon. concord one of our warm spots, 81 degrees, 82 in fairfield, 78 up at santa rosa. on we go to overnight conditions. we'll see clouds increase, low temperatures will be mainly in the low to mid 50s.

same pattern we've had all week long. tomorrow another day with bright skies with more clouds than we had today. highs will be in the upper 50s at the coast. mainly upper 60s to about 70 right around the bay shoreline. inland a mixed bag from low 70s to about 80 degrees. now let me take you down to oracle arena where tomorrow evening game three of the nba finals will take place in cleveland, but the big watch party will be going on at oracle arena. and at game time, actually from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. we'll have sunny skies, temperature in the mid 60s so very, very pleasant evening. inside the arena -- outside the arena with a lot of noise inside the arena, we hope. coming our way on thursday is a weak storm ranking 1 on the storm impact scale. storm of light intensity, produces light showers. the higher rainfall totals will be up at the north bay where we may see anywhere from a tenth of an inch to a quarter of an inch. other places will see less than a tenth of an inch. here's the forecast animation. 7:00 wet already in parts of mendocino county and

northernmost sonoma county. by 10:00 a.m. we'll see the rainfall pushing south ward. when i say light rain, scattered showers. still sweeping across mainly the north bay. by about 1:00 p.m., though, as we move into the afternoon hours we'll see that line of light showers breaking up into isolated showers that may trickle into about any part of the bay area from east bay to south bay to the peninsula. but the rainfall will not be widespread at that point so there may be a few damp spots in the roadways for the evening commute on thursday. but it will not be wet across the entire region. in fact, rainfall totals as i mention will range anywhere from 500th of an inch to a tenth of an inch to maybe a quarter of an inch in the wet est north bay locations. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. giving way to bright and mostly sunny skies friday and saturday, but it is going to be quite cool. inland highs only in the low 70s. only 60s around the bay but brighter skies and warmer weather on sunday, monday and tuesday. >> not sure what the real

the largest private collection of "star wars" memorabilia happens to be right here in the bay area. but the man who owns that impressive collection is now urging people to try to keep an eye out for dozens of items that were stolen, not by some random thief. he blames a trusted friend and now even the stars of "star wars" are weighing in on this. abc7 news reporter lilian kim has the story. >> so, this is rancho -- >> reporter: on a property not so far away is the world's

largest private collection of "star wars" memorabilia. steve of petaluma began his labor of love 40 years ago. >> it was a piece of the movie, bringing home a piece of the movie. i didn't mean to have the world's largest collection. it just happened. >> reporter: but some key pieces are missing, 120 pieces to be exact, worth $200,000. authorities arrested his long-time friend georgia resident and fellow "star wars" enthusiast carl cunningham who came to 2their attention after southern county dealer suspected he was stealing goods. >> we were devastated someone we considered part of the family, someone that stayed with us, someone we shared meals with would do something like that. >> reporter: there are roughly 400,000 items in this collection, including every action figure. the small head or big head, it was the subject of big debate back in the day. most of the items that were stolen are also from that vintage period between 1977 and 1986. including the wind up r 2 d 2 worth $5,000 and cardboard death

>> announcer: live where you live, this is abc7 news. >> and here are the stories making headlines at 4:30. right now police are looking for two a sults who abandoned a 5-year-old child near the san francisco zoo. witnesses say they drove up last night, they left a child by the side of the road and drove off.

the child wasn't injured and is currently being helped by protective services. abc7 news reporter melanie woodrow tweeted the mug shot of a cancer patient who police say wanted to kill three doctors. coming up at 5:00, how police were able to prevent what could have been a deadly attack. abc7 news tweeted a hammer wielding man shouted, this is syria. as he attacked an officer near a notre dame cathedral in paris, another officer shot the man. that attacker under arrest at the hospital. the officer should recover from his injuries. in london police have released the names of all three attackers in saturday's terror rampage. police had previously investigated one of them, but the investigation was closed and now british authorities are facing a backlash. abc7 news reporter ariel reschch live in london with more. >> reporter: the massacre was well known as an extremist. now questions about how a vocal isis sympathizer was able to operate under the radar.

this 27-year-old said to be the leader of the trio of terrorists behind saturday's ruthless rampage, featured in a documentary on britain's channel 4 called the jihad is next door. >> all of us, we just train. we have to stay. >> reporter: he was the center of a probe in 2015, but british authorities concluded he was not a threat. >> we ask ourselves, well, should we have known, could should have been prevented. >> reporter: his accomplices plotted their attack for months. a final vigor, a message from isis inciting violence during the holy month of ramadan. they plotted saturday mowing down and stabbing 7 people to death. wounding 50. >> this spate of attacks really shows what the u.k. and europe more broadly are up against with all of the individuals who are radicalized and prepared to carry out this type of attack, at least inspired by isis.

uncovered significant evidence in the manchester arena bombing investigation. some of that evidence was inside a san francisco 49ers duffle bag. manchester police tweeted images of the bag inside a white nissan last thursday. investigators say the bomber salman abedi made repeated trips from the car between may 18 and the 22nd. the day he set off a bomb that killed 22 people in an ariana grande concert in manchester. >> a 25-year-old is facing serious prison time for allegedly leaking classified information to an online news organization. the document details the 2016 russian military intelligence cyberattack on the u.s. voting software supply company. abc7 news reporter janai norman has the latest. >> reporter: a 25-year-old nsa contractor is the first to be arrested for allegedly leaking classified information under president trump. >> any disclosure of classified or sensitive information can clearly threaten our national security. >> reporter: as much as this

plays to the president's push to deal with classified leaks, for democrat claire mccaskill, the top secret document outlining russia's efforts was more. >> this was russia. >> reporter: she was assigned to work at a federal government facility in georgia when they say they mailed an nsa intelligence report with classified information to the intercept, an online news source. that analysis claims russian hackers sent fishing e-mails to more than 100 local election officials, and e-mailed election software company trying to gain remote control over vendors computers and attempted to spread that operation to local governments. >> we now have in the public domain verified information that the russians made an aggressive attempt to access not only a vendor of voter software in this country, but also a number of states. the voter file databases in the months prior to our election.

>> reporter: an fbi affidavit shows investigators traced the leak to winner by visible creases in the document showing it was a printout. they checked and found only six employees had printed that particular document and the only one that had been in contact with the intercept was reality winner. >> my client being used as a scapegoat for what could be considered a political agenda. >> reporter: the intercept insists the document came to them anonymously and they didn't know the source's identity. but that fbi affidavit alleges winter admitted she printed the document and mailed it to the news outlet. janai norman, abc news, wash. >> they deny attacking the the e system before the last election. >> a tearful description of how she was not able to stop the comedian from gropeling her

because she was sedated. cosby's lawyers attacked her story saying she and cosby spoke 72 times after the encounter arguing more than half the calls were placed by constant herself. cosby says the two had consensual sex opening statements in the manslaughter case of a massachusetts woman accused of sending her boyfriend text messages encouraging him to kill himself. she is charged with murder of her then boyfriend. roy died of carbon monoxide poisoning in his pickup. prosecutors argued he wanted the attention and sympathy of a grieving girlfriend. >> the army is planning to triple the amount of bonuses it is paying this year to more than $380 million. some could get as much as $90,000 up front by committing to another four or more years.

the nebraska state soccer association is apologizing after an 8-year-old girls team was disqualified because they shot she was a boy. they advanced to the tournament finals when it was disqualified. they believed she was a boy. they showed officials their insurance card but were told that wasn't enough. >> it's because i look like a boy doesn't mean i am a boy.

now to the college admissions bombshell from harvard. >> the university rescinded acceptance for ten incoming students after they allegedly posted offensive messages on social media. adrian is on the campus and has the story. >> reporter: harvard is renowned for accepting only the best and brightest. but this morning the dark side of an online student chat room started by some incoming freshmen has caused administrators to revoke their admissions. the university's own paper, the harvard crimson, reports that a group of ten students accepted to the class of 2021 and meeting on the college's official facebook page created an alternative page full of memesms containing dragontives. r-rated memes poking fun at the haul cost, sexual assault and targeting ethnic groups. the official hanging of a

cambridge, massachusetts. >> it might be tricky for colleges in california to do. the law extends free speech protection s to high school and college students. california is the only state to have such a far-reaching law. a spokesperson for the university of california says they do not actively monitor social media accounts for incoming and current students. they said they would react, though, if they found troubling and inflammatory posts. >> the stanford marching band will be able to hit the road again. the schoo the sanctions it imposed in january after it found the band had violated the campus alcohol policy. that move will let the band travel to away games. band members will still face an alcohol ban until the end of the football season. >> state recycling officials are launching a program to cut greenhouse gases and feed people in need at the same time. >> 7 on your side's michael finney here now with the story. >> a novel idea. two problems taken care of in one fell swoop. state recycling officials will use $5 million in cap and trade funds to divert food from

landfills. california has billions of dollars worth of perfectly good food every year. food waste accounts for 18% of garbage thrown into landfills. that in turn causes more greenhouse gas emissions. the $500 million will be used to save food left over from stores, distributors and restaurants instead of the landfill, it will go to food programs for the needy. your mom out in public and you need to change the baby. chances are there is a changing station in the women's rest room. but if you're a dad, there probably isn't one in the men's room. state lawmakers want to change all that. a new bill calls for putting changing tables in the men's room of all public buildings. lawmakers say changing roles has many dad's changing diapers and too often dad's simply don't have anyplace to go do that. the bill has already passed the state assembly and now moves on to the senate. amazon is offering a discount on its prime membership to anyone who receives public assistance. customers who carry an

evidence police recovered. >> reporter: palo alto police say yue chen was a stage 4 cancer patient who drove more than 200 miles from visalia to the bay area to murder at least three doctors who had treated him more than a year ago. >> as soon as visalia police department contacted us, we viewed this threat as real and credible. >> chen's wife contacted police after he took off in a rental car last week with two registered firearms leaving a note behind that said, if today i do not kill them, their sins will continue. san jose chp officers stopped chen on southbound 101. >> we don't know where our interdiction may have stopped a crime or saved a life. in this case we do. >> reporter: they discovered a notebook with the names and home addresses of doctors, a face mask and two registered hand guns. >> they did have extended capacity magazines which were illegal. the guns were loaded. one of those guns had 30 rounds of ammunition in it. th
