i'll step aside and let you see the zoo, the nba finals. last year they got blasted in game three. the tone of the series changed. it will be rocking and the hopes of happening again. steve kerr remembers the dubds were up 2-0 coming into cleveland last year and how the series finished. so, he is well aware game three always goes a long way towards determining who ultimately wins the series. >> always difficult no matter what happens the first two games. the change of venue changes, the dynamics changes the emotion. we've been here the last two years and gotten hammered twice in game three. so, we know what we're up against. >> makes you have a little more us against them mentality. you're not in your home building, but nothing really changed that much. the same routine. just come out and try to play as hard as you can. >> it's a different feel around here. if you had gone out among cleveland people here and fans, they would say down 2-0 last

anticipated hearings with the senate officials about the russian interference. >> stephanie ramos is live in washington, d.c. stephanie? >> reporter: dan and alma, that's right. form former fbi director james comey is set to testify tomorrow. his prepared statement is already out. in it comey claims trump asked him to lift the cloud off of the russia investigation. the day before fired fbi director james comey testifies before the senate intelligence committee, his opening remarks are released. in the explosive statement, comey talks about his conversations with president trump, about former national security advisor michael flynn, and his communications with russia. according to comey, the president tells him, i hope you can see your way to letting this go, to letting flynn go. comey recounts the january 27th dinner he had with the president who he says told him, i need loyalty. i expect loyalty.

the fbi director says he tried to explain the importance of the department of justice independence from the white house. >> and given the recent news about ongoing investigations -- >> reporter: on capitol hill today, the same committee had tough questions for the nation's top intelligence officials, all of them refusing to say whether or not president trump had asked them to intervene in comey's russia investigation. >> i have never been directed to do anything i believe to be illegal, immoral, unethical or inappropriate. >> reporter: their responses frustrating both republican and democratic senators. >> let me ask you specifically. did the president -- the reports that are out there -- ask you in any way, shape or form to back off or downplay the russia investigation? >> i'm not going to discuss the specifics of conversations with the president of the united states. but i stand by the comment i just made to you, sir. >> reporter: the director of national intelligence dan coats echoed the same. >> i don't believe it's appropriate for me to address that in a public session.

it happened as harris demanded specific answers from deputy attorney general rod rosenstein. she asked about the authority of special counsel robert mueller who is looking into ties between president trump and russia. >> are you willing or are you not willing to give him the authority to be fully independent of your ability statutorily and legally to fire him? yes or no, sir? >> he has the full independence as authorized by those regulations as -- >> are you willing to do -- >> would the senator suspend? the chair is going to exercise his rights -- >> the chair then admonished harris and asked her to suspend her questioning of rosenstein. a new berkeley institute of governmental studies poll shows california's views of the russian investigation are strongly partisan. democrats are one sided in their negative reaction to comey's firing, disapproving 79% to 7%. on the other hand republicans approve of the president's firing of comey by a 3 to 1

margin, 65%, 22%. 1600 californians participated in this telephone poll conducted from the fourth to the 29th. >> abc7 news was in oakland today at the new parkway theater which plans to open its doors at 6:45 tomorrow so people can watch comey's testimony. the viewing is free and instead of popcorn and soda, you'll be able to purchase brunch and coffee. wherever you are, you can watch james comey's testimony live right here on abc7. george stephanopoulos will anchor abc news coverage beginning at 7:00 a.m. right after abc7 mornings. >> we have new details of the arrest of a persona cuesed of putting meth in a 2-year-old's mouth in berkeley park. abc7 news has obtained the complaint and probable cause document filed against sayyadina thomas. those documents say thomas shoved a tootsie roll with meth at the park in berkeley. the boy was on the playground with his nanny. thomas is a stranger.

officers determined thomas was a danger to herself and a danger to others. she is facing attempted murder charges. >> the chp is looking for a driver who hit and killed a plan and his dog as they walked on port chicago highway in lake view drive. the chp says the driver was headed east when the vehicle hit the 41-year-old man from antioch. investigators need help finding the suspect. >> a reasonable person would believe there would be some type of front end damage, major from a human being causing a lot of damage to the front end, the front left, the right front. >> both the man and the dog died at the scene in bay point. the driver could face manslaughter charges for fleeing the scene. >> seven years after a murder involving a body in a suitcase, the case has finally gone to trial. she was murdered in 2010, her body stuffed into a suitcase and thrown into the bay. today her family was in court for the trial. abc7 news reporter vic lee is live in san francisco at the hall of justice with the story.

vic? >> reporter: well, alma, it was indeed a gruesome murder. the trial is being monitored closely by advocates of victims of domestic violence. now, the trial started several weeks ago here at the hall of justice. final day of testimony today, closing arguments monday. the wrist band reads, in loving memory of pearla. asia lewis has worn it every day of the trial. >> i'm always here to show my support for her and who she was. >> reporter: asia is the daughter of pshlearla lewis murdered seven years ago. her body dumbed into the bay and washing ashore near the embarcadero bay bridge. the man accused of this horrific crime 55-year-old lee bell who is finally standing trial 7 years later. >> it has been a very long time so it's just been very draining. >> reporter: the suitcase carrying louis's body was discovered may 18, 2010, a day

after her family reported her missing. >> very challenging time for us. >> reporter: a young asia and her siblings fanned out along the embarcadero handing out fliers, hoping for any clues that might lead to the killer. bell was arrested weeks later. the prosecutor says he has a long history of domestic violence and that his relationship with louis was also violent. bell's attorney says while that may be true, it doesn't mean he murdered her. beverley up ton heads the san francisco domestic violence consortium. she says there are lessons to be learned. >> what could we do different? is there a way to prevent this? all domestic violence deaths are preventable. >> reporter: asia has also become an advocate of domestic violence victims. >> i also tell people if you think it can't happen to you, it can. >> reporter: asia hopes that at the end of the trial, there will be some kind of closure, some peace of mind. vic lee, abc7 news. >> the alameda county sheriff's

department is now offering a $10,000 reward to solve the january murder of a hayward high school student. authorities say 16-year-old lamar murphy was riding his bike to the corner store near his home when someone shot and killed him. murphy was a junior. he played football and wanted to go to college to be a registered nurse. >> abc7 news has learned the identity of a woman accused of abandoning her child in san francisco. the 5-year-old girl was found monday night near the san francisco zoo. police say the girl's mother, 22-year-old samantha paton, faces two charges of child endangerment. paramedics just happened to be in the area and saw a woman push a girl out of the car, then drive away. the woman still had her one-year-old boy with her. both kids are with child protective services tonight. they were not hurt. prosecutors formally charged a san francisco man today with charges of filing dozens of fraudulent applications for disabled parking placards. montana le made a brief court appearance. he is charged with six felony counts following his arrest last

3 in cleveland starts at 5:30 today. coverage of game four on friday in cleveland starts at 5:30 as well. >> well, turning back to our oter news today, police sometimes ask for tips to crack a case. but in santa clara the victims of a high-tech burglary were able to supply detectives with the real-time whereabouts of the thieves. abc7 news reporter david louie is live at santa clara police headquarters with how they caught the suspects in a matter of hours. david? >> reporter: well, alma, the burglary suspects had no idea they had stolen 100 tracking devices. it takes only one to pinpoint their every move within 50 to 60 feet. the company rome beat proved its technology really works. >> it was reported in the morning and approximately eight hours later we had them in custody. >> reporter: claire polisanta c were able to zero in on the thieves so fast because they didn't know what they had stolen from the tech company. they took three boxes of roam

boxes. >> they know where it is, they know when it moves, and they know they can be within, you know, two minutes of reacting. >> reporter: the trackers were among $30,000 worth of equipment stolen. police had a real leg up. >> we put an application on the phone. so, he and his fellow officers could actually track live in their patrol car where these two individuals were driving. >> reporter: their every move was captured. they first went to a house in san jose, then to a storage facility in union city. then they drove up to a house in alameda. that's where they were arrested. the storage unit had stolen goods from other burglaries which detectives are using to build on larger case. have i had i can't super mania is amazed what the thieves plan to do with the trarkers. >> i think that individual was trying to sell cell phone chargers not realizing we knew exactly where he was. >> reporter: the suspects, a man and a woman, left tracks behind. one of them went to the roam bee break room and drank half a bottle of beer from the fringe

there are questions this afternoon after a lot of horses were spotted running around golden gate park completely free. the 23 horses were loose for at least two hours. check them out. the park's department says the rangler discovered them out 5:00 this morning. they got them corralled and home by 7:00. they haven't told us why the horses were able to get out. one of the visitors got a giggle at the fact they made a run for it. >> i'm surprised they would have left all their food. but then again, they're horses. i'm more concerned of criminals running around than horses running around. >> they can come over and have all the apples. >> jeff and one-year-old feed the horses apples every day and were relieved so see they are all back and safe. the horses are here on a trial basis as rec and park explores the possibility of offering horseback rides to the public.

illegal, the alameda county sheriff's office said it received a complaint and the person displaying the flag took it down on his own. >> authorities say ghost ship concert organizer max harris will be back in the east bay tomorrow. harris is in custody in loss also where he's been since his arrest on monday. he and ghost ship master tenant derek almena face 36 charges of involuntary manslaughter for last december's fire at the ghost ship warehouse which killed 36 people. this is video you'll see only on abc news almena in a courtroom after his arrest. he arrived in the bay area a few hours later. the alameda county district attorney said they were deliberately deceptive about what was going on inside the ghost ship before the fire. and there is a new memorial to the victims of the ghost ship fire. it is this single sailboat floating in san francisco bay off the emeryville shoreline. the 15-foot boat is painted black with words ghost ship written on tfrmt the ship was built by local artist chris

edwards who knew people killed in the fire. he said, making it released a lot of sadness for him. >> part of the old alameda naval air station are under siege. it is actually a drill involving the fbi and first responders for more than 15 agencies. it is realistic, but it is a drill. abc7 news anchor eric thomas gives us the report. >> reporter: victims strewn along the ground, even fire fighters appearing to be overcome, and that is just the start. >> we're mixing in tougher elements of an active shooter who is going to barricade himself on board one of the boats. >> reporter: the fbi says it took six months to plan this exercise that the bureau calls operation sea sick. the goal is to ensure the different agencies who would respond to a real attack are on the same page. >> we want to make sure the public is aware that we have the ability to come together as a team and it's one fight and one team.

>> reporter: when you have this many agencies working together, the fbi, coast guard, the army, oakland police and fire, the one thing they must be able to do is communicate. >> communications are usually the problem, but we work with these agencies almost on a daily basis. so, we have points of contact within each agency to be able to perform operations and get the things we need from each other. >> reporter: the teamwork is obvious. while an old police s.w.a.t. team deals with the active shooter scenario on a ship, oakland and alameda county fire fighters in protective gear investigate the mock chemical weapon. meantime the county health department uses a computer model to determine which areas would have to be evacuated. >> obviously if this were to be the real and not a simulated event, there would be a potential for mass casualties. >> first responders hope exercises like this can keep those casualties to a minimum. a second day of drills is set for tomorrow at the old naval base. in alameda, eric thomas, abc7 news. >> stay with us. a dozen new astronauts have been

warriors develop a fan base south of the border. it's amazing. it's amazing. >> i know you were telling me about that at game one. you started to touch on this because our own viewers here in san francisco can listen and get a little spanish, please explain how they can do that with the s.a.p. we have so many remotes, get confused. >> well, simple enough, if you want to watch the game and listen to mike green and jeff van gundy, and you're listening to me it's because your audio setting on the tv set is set to the secondary audio channel. all you have to do is go back and switch it back to english and you'll be fine. if you want to hear us for a while, join us, we'll be there as well. either one, you have a choice as and it's going to be fun. what we do in spanish is try to get to the analysis jeff gets to a legal earlier than jeff. we try to bring some excitement that mike does. a different style, a different twang, perhaps. it's all basketball. it's fun to watch these guys

behind me play. it's been fun so far. obviously if you're a warriors fan it's been more fun. >> if rhianna shows up at court side, he's looking at her and not watching the game. give us a sense of what is going to happen. last time they were down 0-2 and they beat the warriors by 30 in game three. >> i think the setting change will matter. i think the ref reason are going to be influenced by the crowd. the crowd is going to get behind the cavs. if the cavs don't move the ball on offense, it's just not going to happen for them in this series. let me give you a fact that blew me away. 55% of lebron james' shots come without a pass. 47% of tyree irving's shots were without a pass. if they don't move the ball, then it's over for the cavs. i think, i expect them to do that tonight. it's a classic chicken and egg question. wait, the bench is not scoring, so we shouldn't pass them the ball? or they're not scoring because we're not passing them the ball?
