tonight. the warriors now lead the cavaliers 3-0 games. thanks in large part to two-time mvp steph curry. abc's t.j. holmes spoke to him courtside about his ongoing rivalry with lebron james. and the cavs. >> golden state stays perfect! >> reporter: tonight game three of the nba finals is in the books. >> warriors take a 3-0 lead in these finals. >> reporter: lebron james' cleveland cavaliers trying to put a date in the war yoes' two-game lead. but it just wasn't enough to stop the four-headed monster of the warriors led by sharpshooter steph curry. >> another three, steph curry! >> reporter: the third straight year the teams have gone head to head in the championship showdown. for 29-year-old steph curry, this time is different. it didn't matter who you play, you're trying to win a championship. there's a little part of you that doesn't mind getting a chance to bo back at the cavaliers.

>> we had a pretty good idea it was going to be cleveland. for us to get back on top, i would say it would be a good feeling to redeem ourselves from last year and be the team -- the last team standing. >> last year the warriors blew a seeming 30 sure 3-1 lead to the cavs. >> it has been a roller coaster ride in these finals for curry. >> reporter: it gave cleveland their first championship in franchise history. >> it's over! cleveland is a city of champions once again! >> reporter: and marked a bitter end to an otherwise historic season for the warriors. >> we know how it felt, we don't want that feeling again. going to do everything we can not to walk off the court but on win. i don't think it's a bad thing to remember it, it should fuel you to get revenge, to get back on top. >> reporter: a win against lebron would mean redemption for curry. what is your personal relationship with lebron james? >> i know him well. all the way back from my college days. as you go through the league, i mean, schedules are crazy. we obviously run into each other from time to time. have battles on the court. when it's all said and done,

when all our careers are over with, i'm sure there's going to be a lot of looking back, like we have some good times playing the game we love and share with all the guys in the league. >> reporter: over the past three years -- >> james trying to harass curry -- >> reporter: curry's low ussive ball-handling -- >> off the glass! >> reporter: and that jump shot. >> oh what a shot from curry! >> reporter: have made him one of the most unlikely threat on this the court. and many call him one of the greatest shooters in nba history. he's been named the league's mvp twice. but curry says with every honor comes mounting pressure. how is your life different this nba finals from two finals ago when you won a championship? >> it's definitely different. it's a lot more pulling at you. a lot more you have to deal with, a lot more decisions you have to make on a daily basis. the challenge to keep the priority. the priority is a daily, daily decision that you got to make. you know, i'm not complaining about it at all.

>> reporter: it's a sentiment he's now learned to share with a famous 44. >> huge name drop right here, i was talking to our former president, barack obama. big-time, right? >> that's a good name-drop. you going to drop one, drop that one. >> he was talking about like the challenges before he was in office. and he said he didn't value his anonymity. as he was going through life. he can't just go walk down the street and be in his own world and just unplug, if you will. from all the commotion, the attention, the people grabbing at you. it's obviously about our fans, but on a daily basis, that's the hardest thing just to be able to go to the grocery store. you know. pick up some stuff and not run into anybody, have to talk about basketball, something like that. >> can't do it just can't do it. it comes with the territory to a certain extent. but that's the struggle that's so different from when i started playing basketball. that you got to get used to.

>> reporter: curry's never been far from the spotlight. he's the son of former nba player dale curry. here he is on the bench with dad when he was a kid. the two even appeared together in a commercial for burger king. >> can we go to burger king? i am really hungry. >> reporter: it's his upbringing and his style of play marked by finesse that has led many to call curry soft. >> i've heard that, soft, for sure. i had a different upbringing than a lot of players in the nba. i've had similar upbringings to some people in the nba. so i'm not by myself in this situation. but i don't know what's in people's minds, how they label me, how they perceive me. i know what i'm about. i know how i view myself and life and the style of play on the basketball court. so whether you think i'm soft or you think i'm tough, think i look like i'm 16 or whatever, doesn't bother me to the point of me being confident in myself and my abilities and what i can do on the floor. >> reporter: dubbed the

baby-faced assassin he's facing another challenge throughout these playoffs -- perfecting that beard. is there any chance you're going to shave that beard before the nba final? >> not a chance. back story. as the title baby-face, back in college, i always wanted to grow a beard to say i could. i could never get to it connect on this side. >> just this side was the problem. >> just this side. and about six months ago, it started to connect. so i got a little carried away with it. and made up my own reason to have a playoff beard. >> okay. >> this is four months of hard work. perseverance. that i can't let it ride for at least another three weeks. >> how does your wife like it? >> she liked it about three weeks ago before it got unruly. >> reporter: though he is one of the best basketball players in the world, he keeps the priority on being a dad and husband. >> instead of just one baby girl running around, i got two. that's a challenge in itself. to begin with.

detroit how to break into the entertainment industry. here's abc's sunny hostin. >> reporter: it's no small feat. to sell out radio city music hall. ♪ voices in my head >> reporter: on this night in front of thousands of fans -- ♪ rapper big sean is counting his blessings. ♪ blessings on blessings on blessings look at my life man ♪ >> reporter: 2017 a marquee year for this 29-year-old from detroit. his album "i decided" reaching certified gold. thanks to hit tracks like "bounce back." ♪ l.a.x. every week i bounce back ♪ ♪ you're a real winner you know how to bounce back ♪ >> i've had a lot of failures, successes, you know what i'm saying, i bounce back. >> that is what bounce back is about? >> yeah, i bounce back. it's like you go through all these ups and downs. but i feel like the true

testament of a person is how they handle themselves after they fail. how they come back. ♪ i lose one i bounce back >> reporter: for sean it's not just bouncing back. it's taking full advantage when fate suddenly appears. you grabbed your shot. how did you start? >> somebody called me, like yo, one of my friends kanye's down at the station, go town there and rap for him, he'll probably love you. sounded a little stupid, silly or something, you know. i got down there, right when he was leaving. >> what did you say? >> i asked if i could rap for him. he was like, man, we kind of running late. i was like, oh, damn, you're like my hero. he was like, all right, you can rap while we're walking out of the station, know what i'm saying? i started rapping. it was the chance that gave me the moment to like kick in the door. put my foot in it. >> reporter: sean signed to kanye west's good music label in 2007. but it would take four more years for him to debut his first album. fittingly titled "finally famous." ♪

♪ stacking my paper my wallet look like a bible ♪ >> reporter:erring his first top 10 billboard single with "dance," a collaboration with nicki minaj. >> when i look back, yeah, i klabbed with great people but the main focus for me is what did the music mean what did the messaging mean, what did it do for detroit? he had that platform what did he do? >> you were one of those guys that went up to kanye and asked him to listen to you rap. does that kind of thing happen to you now? >> does it? >> all the time? i see people looking now. >> it happens all the time. it's like -- and we listen to it as much as we can, too. >> people give you tapes and you listen to it? >> yeah, for sure. every time. >> reporter: for sean, giving back is a driving force. launching a program in his hometown called "mogul prep." >> i've never heard of anything like this before. >> way to have a good time, meet people, ask questions, get some

answers about the music industry. >> here i think we're more learning from somebody who has gone through it. not saying that teachers in school haven't gone through it, but we learn it to know it and take what we learn, take it with us. >> you know, and that check comes in, i'm the very, very last one to get paid. >> reporter: workshops which aim to teach kids from low-income backgrounds the ins and outs of the music business. >> i thought it was important. i didn't even know all the jobs that -- all the people that i had to hire. i'm just like, what do you do? road manager, tour manager, publisher, creative director, the list goes on and on. know what i mean? >> you don't have to be a fantastic rapper to work in this industry. >> no, those people have jobs, those are long-lasting careers. those last longer than a lot of artists' careers. that's something that was never explained or taught to us in high school, that we didn't know. those -- that's around the time you figure out what you're trying to do with your life. >> you can always bounce back.

>> reporter: his work recently earned him detroit's key to the city. what does detroit mean to you? >> made me into a man. detroit has gone through the ups and downs as a city. you know, as a whole. it gives you the spirit of a champion. ♪ ♪ slim shady please stand up please stand up ♪ >> reporter: a city that rou produced music icons, among them the real slim shady himself, eminem. has he been an inspiration for you? >> yeah, of course. eminem is the biggest rapper in the world. he's broken a lot of barriers. not just for the city but just for music in general. especially rap music. i think growing up i was just like -- admired the lyrical ability, the way he plays with words. ♪ we ain't nothing but well cannibals ♪ >> it's something i try tone corporate in my music. >> what about people who say, eminem, he's a white rapper. that's about cultural appropriation. >> grow up, man.

you know, white, black, whatever. it's about the music. music has no color. that is the universal language that breaks all barriers. >> reporter: the two collaborated on sean's latest album, the track "no favors" which sparked controversy for its explicit lyrics. ♪ [ bleep ] like your problems meaning someone else's needy ♪ >> reporter: it's a road sean has been down before with the controversy surrounding the lyrics of his 2015 hit song "i don't blank with you ♪ ♪ i don't [ muted ] with you >> reporter: it's been called the breakup anthem. >> i feel like that's a song where i'm sure a lot of people relieved a lot of stress to that song. >> who was it about? >> it's not about anybody, really. >> okay. >> or who knows, it could be about my old girlfriend too, you know. >> reporter: sean has had a string of famous girlfriends from ariana grande to nya rivera.
