good morning, everyone. it is sunday, june 11th. i am chris wynn in for carolyn tyler. a quick look at the weather with meteorologist lisa argen. >> it's not june gloom. it's a june chill. how is that? we have not only clear conditions but we're looking at gusty winds and temperatures well below average. all due to the system to the north which will spread showers in northern sacramento valley. possibly higher hills around the bay area, check out the winds. you can see the camera shaking.

low 50s in the city. 53 in san jose. 54 in mountain view. at the beach today, it will be sunny and gusty. we are looking at winds well w over 30 miles an hour. the winds now at the airport, 36 milesen a your ho. hayward, 24-mile-an-hour gusts. novato up to 28-mile-an-hour winds. by the afternoon we'll keep a few clouds around. 50s and 60s noontime and perhaps a 70 in the inland valleys. it won't be the norm. we'll see the cool weather, maybe some showers or a thunderstorm. we'll have your neighborhood forecast and a look at a big warmup coming up. a school district in brentwood has issued a public apology after a senior who also happens to be a private in the u.s. army was told he couldn't walk during his graduation if he wore his uniform. abc7 news reporter explains.

>> my favorite part, i would have to say the u.s. >> reporter: harley fletcher is not ordinary private first class. he finished basic training at 17. unfortunately he missed miss graduation ceremony at liberty high school. he missed the excitement, the energy, the camaraderie because of this. >> he basically told me this is a graduation ceremony. you are not allowed to wear that uniform. you are supposed to wear a cap and gown. >> reporter: school administrators told harley he could borrow a cap and gown. he refused to cover up his uniform and left. >> i was in disbelief, but to see my husband devastated did my son devastated, being told he couldn't wear his uniform was crushing. >> reporter: liberty union high school superintendent released this apology citing state legislation that allows a high schooler who has completed basic training to wear a uniform at

graduation. he goes on to say, quote, no slight was meant to harland nor the u.s. army. with a little prior notification i am sure the principal and the administration would have come to this conclusion before the ceremony. that's not true say the fletchers. >> he had spoken to his counselor several time over the weeks leading up to graduation. she advised him, yes, it is acceptable. >> reporter: harley plans to pick up his diploma on monday. he has not ruled out the possibility of filing a lawsuit against the school district. li lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. >> abc7 news was in san francisco last night after a mother and her 3-year-old child were injured by a hit-and-run driver between 8:00 and 9:00 in the south of market area between harrison and folsom. the suspect was arrested three miles away. the mother and child had been

taken to the hospital. no word on the extent of their injuries. palo alto police are turning to social media in an effort to catch a killer in a case dating back 16 years. on june 10th, 2001, someone shot and killed 21-year-old maria shiou outside of the q nightclub on alma street. she was celebrating her birthday with friends and family. police say they don't believe she was targeted but they still don't have a motive. >> in our circle of friends we don't know anyone who has been murdered. we don't know anyone that's in a gang. >> police have re-released a video that they hope will result in new leads. they're asking people to share it on social media. we posted it on our website, abc7news.com. we now know the name of a man shot and killed in sunnyvale three days ago. 21-year-old edu sealgado was found dead in a sprtrip mall

parking lot. this is sunnyvale's first homicide this year. a deadly crash involving two motorcycles and a truck closed down all east bound lanes of 580 in the east bay yesterday afternoon. abc7 news was at the scene in livermore. a motorcyclist who was going over 90 miles per hour lost control. the cyclist that collided with the pickup died at the scene and the other was taken to a trauma center. morgan hill police arrested the man accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a gas station. 27-year-old richard dollarhyde was taking into custody last nght. police say he went into a gas station convenience store yesterday morning and demanded free items. the woman who works there told him to leave but he drug her to

a back storage room. she hit him in the face and he eventually ran off. we have new details on the officer-involved shooting in brentwood. you see the damage done to a home on birchwood drive friday night. police say a car hit the home. at some point at least one officer opened fire on the two men inside the car. one man was shot in the hip. a neighbor says he heard several gunshots. >> he was on the ground yelling, i am hit, i am hit! oh! cussing and swearing at himself. >> another suspect suffered a facial injury. no officers were hurt. the brentwood police department and the contra costa county district attorney's office are investigating. at a church in the east bay, a call for shots fired has turned into a hate crime investigation. abc7 news was in san leandro where police say a man fired shots into a statue at a church yesterday afternoon. police say responding officers struggled with him before forcibly removing his gun and

taking him into custody. police have not said what prompted them to classify this as a hate crime. investigators are looking into the cause of a grass fire about a mile east of the oakland international airport. the fire broke out near 98th avenue and empire road a little after 9:00 last night. while the lot is mostly empty, multiple campers and trailers were set on fire. fire crew house to request additional support and battled the flames for about 45 minutes before getting it under control. dub nation is hoping for a championship win during game 5 of the finals in oakland tomorrow. both the warriors and the cavs arrived back in the bay area yesterday. abc7 news news reporter lonnie rivera spoke with warriors fans who are undeterred by friday's loss. >> reporter: the warriors are back in the bay, and the chance for championship history is still within reach. >> it would be an historic moment that the bay area would be super proud of. >> reporter: the dubs have a chance to wrap things up on

west played the caped crusader for 120 episodes on abc. and is widely known for being the original tv batman. reporter melissa mcbride from our sister station in l.a. looks back at the life of adam west. >> batman! >> reporter: for only three seasons adam west was batman on the hit tv series in the late 1960s but it was the role he would be known for throughout his decades-long career. two weeks ago he signed autographs with burt ward who played his sidekick, robin, on the show. >> 75% of my time on this planet has been working with adam west. >> reporter: ward says west seemed to be in good health. the passing of his dear friend was unexpected. batman and robin were good friends on and off the set. >> when we would get together and people would see us together, they start laughing. and i -- what's wrong? my shirt? what's going on? why are people laughing at us. there was some chemistry, some

it was the perfect day for a parade, and this one kicked off opening day at the san mateo county fair yesterday. groups from throughout the bay area were invited to celebrate the fair's 80th year. the music group smash mouth performs next saturday. they are the hoibl headliner for this year's event. the fair will be open through june 18th at the fair grounds. top athletes from around the world take over the streets and waters of san francisco to take part in one of the most prestigious competitions, the escape from alcatraz triathlon. the race features a 1.5 mile swim. 18 mile bike ride and 8-mile run through the city. it's considered one of the oldest and most difficult. the first swimmers will hit the water near alcatraz island at 7:30 this morning. your accuweather forecast with lisa argen. >> water temperatures in the 50s, of course, there. we'll have a blustery afternoon with winds continuing to kick up. here is live doppler 7. the cloud cover just in patchy areas. low cloud cover. as we widen the perspective you see a rotation in the clouds here and some green representing

hayward to oakland this morning. at the airport 36-mile-an-hour wind gusts. half moon bay and novato, pretty much everybody. we'll see the winds increase and that will allow for the numbers to feel even cooler. breezy and cool. chance of showers. sunny and cool tomorrow, taking the shower chance out and looking at temperatures gradually warming this week. so by the end of the heat it will be hot. from 7:00 this morning through the mid-morning hours, notice that we've got 15 to 25-mile-an-hour winds around most of the bay. at the coast, though, upwards of 38-mile-an-hour winds. so definitely a windier day today. as we go through the afternoon, 2:00 is when you'll begin to see the cumulous clouds build up. a thunderstorm out towards the delta. vallejo. showers won't amount to much. today will be the coolest day out of the next seven.

this hour. here is meteorologist lisa argen tracking the conditions where you live. >> good morning, everyone. it's nice and bright out there but, backpaoy, the winds are gu already at 36 miles an hour at sfo. temperatures, 52 in san francisco, 56 in oakland. 54 mountainview. half moon bay. san jose at 53. the airport, no delays but with those winds you will expect perhaps a bumpy landing. 48 in santa rosa. napa, it's 50 by the delta. 54 in concord. winds right now gusting to 23 miles an hour in novato and hayward. over 24 miles an hour. san carlos airport up to 18 miles an hour. from the golden gate bridge, it is nice and clear. but we'll look for the temperatures today to stay down and in fact, with a few extra clouds and incoming weather system to the north could spread showers and maybe a thunderstorm. we'll talk about it in a few minutes. >> lisa, thank you.

a chilling video is out showing the rescue of a woman held captive by an accused serial killer. certain scenes may be too disturbing for some viewers. abc news reporter eva pilgrim has the story. from south carolina. >> reporter: dramatic and disturbing images showing the moment authorities walked to the sealed shipping container where a woman was being held captive. authorities using a saw and crowbars to break into the container. once inside, pitch black. investigators, armed with guns, walked through, finding kayla brown chained up inside the crate. >> how are you, honey? >> reporter: the 30-year-old held prisoner for two months by an admitted serial killer. in the video you see brown with a chain around her neck. >> both feet. >> just one. chain through a wall and my neck is attached to the wall up here. >> reporter: wearing glasses, sitting on a make-shift bed. >> straight out of hannibal lecter. a girl chained up like a dog in the back of a container. >> reporter: authorities used

bolt cutters to free brown who had been trapped inside the container on this property belonging to 46-year-old todd kohlhepp, a seemingly successful local realtor. brown spoke to dr. phil mcgraw about the moment she was rescued. >> calm washed over me. i was just there. i was free and i was just ready to get off that property. >> reporter: she total detectives her boyfriend. charlie carver, did not survive. >> todd kohlhepp shot him three times in the chest, wrapped him in a blue tarp, put him in the bucket of the tractor. locked me down here. i never seen him again. >> reporter: he's now confessed to killing seven people including four he gunned down at a motorcycle shop. >> i cleared that building in under 30 seconds. you guys would have been proud. i'm sorry, but you guys would have been proud. >> reporter: in may kohlhepp pled guilty to murder and kidnapping charges and a judge sentenced him to life in prison.

>> a big wrinkle today, comey's suggestion that there are untold stories about why jeff sessions decided to recuse himself. >> reporter: investigators are looking at this event, trump's first major foreign policy address at a d.c. hotel last year. >> it's time to shake the rust off america's foreign policy. >> reporter: that's the russian ambassador. sergey kislyak. being shown to the front show. and there is jeff sessions. investigators want to know if the two had any interaction at the event. sessions previously admitted he and kislyak had two encounters during the campaign after initially denying any contact. >> what we have is a pattern of contacts with the russians by flynn, by sessions, by kushner, secret, and then concealed. >> reporter: mary bruce, abc news. washington. >> president trump is expected to reveal his new policy with cuba this week. officials say the president could reverse some changes made

at hollywood and highland in los angeles. in washington, d.c., capital pride celebrations are happening all weekend. there will be a street festival and concert headlined by miley cyrus. yesterday thousands lined the streets to watch the pride parade through the city. this is the 42nd year of pride celebrations in the nation's capital. happening today, the bay area will celebrate pride month in san jose with the equality march and unity and pride rally. organizers say the two events give the community a chance to come together and show inclusion for diverse backgrounds. the march starts at 11:00 at san jose city hall and the rally starts at 1:00 at plaza decesar chavez. >> 6:35 is the time.
