suspect as 44-year-old nelson tolentino, a south san francisco man unknown to police. melanie is live. you also spoke with the victim's parents today. >> reporter: we did by they are stunned and we are respecting his parents' wishes to keep his identity private as he heals from this unexpected attack. this is the man san jose sheriff's office says stabbed a 13-year-old with a pocketknife. by phone, the teen's father said he was stabbed seven times, four in one arm, three in another as he used his arms to protect his body from 44-year-old nelson tolentino. the teen had never seen him

before. it's not clear why he attacked him. the teenager was released from the hospital saturday but will return for surgery. >> i seen it on instagram with my friends. i was shocked. >> reporter: this college student said he's been coming to the library for years and has seen him sitting outside. >> never bothered nobody. keeps to himself. i never expected it with him. >> reporter: the sheriff's office says nelson is a resident and stuck around after the attack. he will be arraigned tuesday. the district attorney's office says he had a string of drug possession cases since march. the teenager's family says that are especially grateful to the sheriff's office and first responders who reacted in under a minute since they have a substation next to the library. abc7 news. san francisco police are investigating the death of a man in mission terrace neighborhood

at alemany boulevard and santa rosa avenue. it was a serious injury but not a gunshot wound and investigating the death as a possible homicide. this is 39-year-old suzanne hernandez. she is charged in the death of a 73-year-old kuiper tino woman. friends found her body inside her home on south tantau avenue. the murder is still under investigation. deputies believe hernandez and the victim were strangers. one of the two defendants in the ghost ship fire case made his first court appearance today. max harris was charged with 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter, one for each of those killed. the collected rent and mediated disputes between people living in the warehouse. the ghostship founder and he were accused of knowingly and

>> reporter: the same day the attorney generals of maryland and d.c. filed a lawsuit alleging him of accepting payment from foreign governments while in office and not fully removing himself from his businesses, benefitting the hotels and golf courses. >> never in the history of this country have we had a president with this kind of extensive business entanglements. >> reporter: saying these interests do not do this. >> it's not hard to see the politics behind these attorney generals. >> reporter: and the justice department trying to figure out what ties were there between the attorney general and russia. attorney general jeff sessions set to answer questions about his role in the firing of former fbi director james comey and his contacts during the campaign. the trump administration says depending on the scope of

the family of a vietnam purple heart veteran is scrambling to leave their home of 40 years before 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. >> they lost their home to a foreclosure despite desperate attempts to save it paying out tens of thousands of dollars. michael finney has been look swook the story a week. >> what a sad story. this family accuses those who

promised help them save their home taking advantage of them instead. it's too late to stop this foreclosure but they hope their story will help others. the heartbreaking task of packing up belongings accumulated over 40 years is under way for delores sexton and her husband, robert. >> it's so hard to leave, we've been here so long. >> reporter: adding to the stress, robert is undergoing chemotherapy for leukemia. delores has known robert since she was 9 years old and married 46 years. they began falling behind on manager payments several years ago and he says wells fargo declined a loan modification, but he was later sent a letter that he may be eligible for a loan modification and offered to help him apply. he paid out close to $20,000 for attorney fees and program fees and loan audit to endeavor and other companies it recommended.

robert says it was a huge mistake. >> i'm embarrassed but i feel worse than my family because i let them down. >> we contacted endeavor which told us it was no longer in business and contacted the foreclosure defense company which said it received the case from endeavor. foreclosure defense said it prepared a lawsuit against the lender to advocate for the family's behalf. they never filed it because the sextons failed to complete the necessary affidavit. robert said he gave them what they want and there was a modification package prepared but the state department said it's not licensed to do tat. foreclosure defense in its report said it's a self-described forensic auditor to complete it. an attorney of housing economic rights advocates has seen these type of reports before. >> when they hear the words

forensic loan audit they think somebody will finally get to the bottom of this horrible experience. >> reporter: she said she has never seen a forensic audit that helped anyone. a public research group found 11,000 federal complaints for mortgages from veterans. s a for the sextons, a long-time neighbor has offered to take them in until they get back on their feet. >> we've always been a happy family and hopefully we can catch our breaths. >> i'm not going to give up. >> their immediate concern finding a place to rent. a go fund me page has been set up to help them get back on their feet. i have a link on abc7news.com if you would like to help out. >> terrible. thanks. an 18-year-old u.s. army reservist finally got his high school diploma after he was banned by the principal from wearing his military uniform. the incredible show of support

he received today. hundreds of well wishers saluted a young man at what amounted to a substitute graduation ceremony. 18-year-old fletcher was told he couldn't wear his military uniform at his real ceremony last friday. his principal insisted he had to wear a cap and gown. >> legally this is uniform perfectly acceptable. at ceremonies like this i can wear it. >> they told you no. >> i can't deface the uniform and hide it. >> reporter: he later walked out. and the principal apologized publicly. >> i deeply regret what occurred. i thought i needed to do two things in my life, one, apologize, and, two, try to find way to make it better. >> reporter: veterans of the army, air force, mariners and coast guard, came out in uniform
