reporter katie. a lot of people jealous, katie. >> reporter: these barricades line the parade route. there is no way you could contain the excitement of the dub nation. first a win at home, gorgeous day for a parade. what else could you ask for really? a dub nation celebration to remember. >> what a greatme what a great time. >> reporter: the feeling you get when your team takes home the nba title. >> i think it's great. >> reporter: you're losing your voice. [ laughter ] >> reporter: it's estimated more than a million people lined the golden state warriors victory parade route. waiting hours to see their favorite players up close, and in some cases face to face. [cheering and applauding] >> reporter: the energy of the crowds too tempting for draymond green who hopped off the bus and mingled. >> draymond is being draymond. he's just -- he's a crowd pleaser. he's like the heart and soul of

the warriors. >> reporter: as coach steve kerr points out, the fans deserve the credit, too. >> what do you want to say to the fans? >> thank you. you're amazing. >> reporter: warriors legend leadership owners and leadership, even the people behind the scenes of the organization felt like nba stars today. >> mvp, mvp. finally mvp kevin durant soaked up the love from the double dekker bus while others had confetti. >> we won it back in 2017. so, we have confetti! >> reporter: if you could bag up the feeling of confetti, of winning, why wouldn't you? in oakland, katie, abc7 news. >> and after the parade came the rally where the players got a chance to speak to this huge crowd at the kaiser convention center. didn't take a whole lot of urging for draymond green to step up and kevin durant came forward as well. draymond talked about how the warriors had been built and succeeded without having a number one overall draft pick.

>> flynn was the second pick in the draft. steph was 7. klay was 11. i was like 47. [ laughter ] >> wasn't no number one. number one, nuber 4, number 5. we just do it better. >> going through this year was so much fun, just knowing you're coming into work every day, like draymond said, it's more like fun. it feels like i'm playing basketball as a team at a.u. when you're playing with these guys. so much fun, the coaching staff, the coaches, they discipline us but we're so loose, we have joy when we're on the court. >> draymond mentioned slim. that's his nickname for kevin durant. some people call him the slim reaper. the question is two in a row. win it back in 2018? >> that would be awesome. the population of oakland swelled to 2 1/2 times its size for today's celebration. more than a million people lined

the parade route downtown at the end of lake merritt. that's how it looked earlier today from sky 7, just a sea of people. and here is a look right now as sky 7 is live over 880. most people actually took bart, though. in fact, the system saw near record ridership today. but it wasn't all perfect. abc7 news reporter cornell is live downtown. cornell. >> reporter: hey, larry, alma, no waiting at the bart station. much of dub nation headed home. earlier you would not believe the crowds all heading for some transportation. dub nation spilled off bart trains in downtown oakland, a sea of blue and gold in the mood to celebrate. bart anticipated big crowds and added 40 extra cars to handle the masses. >> we planned for this to be one of our busiest days in the history of the system and so far that's proven to be the case. >> reporter: 203,000 riders jumped on bart hours before the

dubs parade began. 28% more riders than a typical commute day and a few thousand more than 2015 dubs victory parade. >> how does it feel to be here? >> how do you think it feels? look at this. what a scene. >> reporter: coach steve kerr was wowed by the size of the crowds as he ran down the parade route. when it was over thousands made a b-line for the 19th street station. >> hectic, lots of people everywhere. hard to get through, couldn't move around. now we're at a stand still again. >> reporter: the crowd so big, many riders were not allowed on the train platform for a while. the entry gates closed. >> what we do when we have those crush loads is basically we'll meter the crowd to keep it safe to make sure that the platform is not overloaded. >> it's crazy and it's very hectic and it's really hot in here. but it's fun. >> reporter: after the dubs rally, bart tweeted this advisory letting riders know the 12th and 19th street stations were empty, but lake merritt was filling up.

overall, bart seemed to be the best bet for dub nation to witness another championship parade. in oakland, cornell bernard, abc7 news. >> the parade has spawned a new hashtag on social media. that would be #quickie. >> it all stems from a trolling war between draymond green and the cavs lebron james. abc7's kristen sze is here with that. >> the #quickie all because of the shirt worn by draymond green. you see this one right here? uh-huh, it says quickie. printed like the logo from the cavaliers, quicken loans arena as in the warriors got out of there quickly with the trophy. draymond's trolling back after lebron james wore this t-shirt on the left after stealing the championship from the warriors last year. now, it says, ultimate warriors take a close look. uh-huh. widely seen as a real dig on golden state. draymond referenced the t-shirt tiff in his rally speech.

[ laughter ] [cheering and applauding] >> oh, lebron fired back on instagram using quickie a different way, shall we say. draymond responded them dubs finally made him go bald, referring to lebron's newly shaved head. warriors fans are loving this back and forth. john navarro snapped this picture of his niece with draymond calling him the new petty king. takes it as a real compliment. you knew it wouldn't be long before an entrepreneur jumped on the trend. the quickie t-shirt in blue and in black just like draymond's. can't wait to see what draymond and lebron will come up next year. larry and alma? >> this is not going to end. >> no. >> thank you, kristen. well, our own carolyn tyler is a

long-time warriors season ticket holder. she was invited by the team to join the festivities today. here she is locked in before the parade. it looked like she was having a great time. she sent this. amazing experience to see the thousands and thousands of warriors fans. maybe carolyn can get us into the next parade. >> it was a unbelievable. and a long hot day in the sun for a lot of people waiting out there. >> yeah, new records today. temperatures in oakland did exceed normal june highs. spectacular day as you can see from sky 7. let's get the latest from abc7 news anchor spencer christian. >> i prefer to be referred to as the weather warrior. here here's what's happening. let's look back just a moment. during the time of the parade it was bright and sunny as you mentioned. high temperatures a little bit above the average, but we didn't have any excessive heat, though. so, that's a good thing. however, the u.v. index was quite high and overexposure to the sun in those condilgss can

be hazardous, but again, temperatures remained in a mild to warm range. now let's look ahead to the evening hours as some of the sell brandts are no doubt hanging around from now up until sunset. it will still be bright sunny and mild, temperatures in the 70s until after 8:00 p.m. or so. however, as we look a little bit farther ahead, a heat advisory will be in effect for the bay area from 11:00 a.m. saturday to 11:00 p.m. monday. i believe it's going to be extended even longer than that because this heat is going to be with us for a while. heat related illnesses possible under these conditions. it is advisable to avoid overexposure to the sun. stay hydrated. this heat advisory by the what i is in effect for the bay area except for the immediate coast line. i'll give you a look at how hot it is ggs to be where you are and how long the heat wave is going to persist. alma? >> thank you, spencer. when it came to security oakland police took no chances today. later in the newscast abc7 news anchor eric thomas shows us the precautions officers took, some visible, some not, plus the act

of generosity from the warriors to the city of oakland. >> before we move on to other news, one key member of the warriors championship team is leaving to join one of the warriors's biggest rivals. special consultant jerry west says he's planning to sign a contract with the l.a. clippers. heelt be joining them in a similar role. he joined when they first bought the team. the move back to southern california is a chance for the 79-year-old west to stay home in l.a. and he's got a new challenge there. west seen hugging kevin durant after monday night's victory tells espn he knew this was going to be his final game with the warriors that night. >> all right. well, there is much more to come here on abc7 news at 4:00. remembering the victims in yesterday's u.p.s. shooting. today fond memories of a coach who helped shape the lives of young people. >> also day 4 of deliberations in the bill cosby trial. jurors sent the judge a message. it could be a good sign for the comic legend. >> and later a scary scene. a blimp flying near the u.s. open golf tournament falls from

we are learning more about the three u.p.s. drivers who were shot and killed yesterday by a fellow driver in san francisco. a memorial to one of the victims known as big mike lefiti is is s growing outside where he used to

deliver. melanie is at potrero hill where shootings occurred and new details on the other drivers who were killed. melanie? >> reporter: absolutely. and the memorial that's here has been growing significantly in the last 24 hours. it is not just here at this u.p.s. location. there were also tributes and memorials along the victims' delivery routes. this volleyball team says the greatest lesson their coach louie ben son taught them was generosity. >> the biggest thing was the size of his heart. >> reporter: most of them affectionately refer to him as uncle ben son. they say he felt more like a dad. >> we were like his 18 other sons he would see on the weekend through the summer. >> reporter: louie was 50 years old and married with two daughters with equally devoted to his work at u.p.s. >> it was cool to see him, hear his story, from working at u.p.s. for 18 odd years to now, and not only seeing how the city changed, but seeing how people changed. >> reporter: along haight street

today, drivers are filling in on the route once covered by victims mike lefiti and more recently wayne chan. >> everybody at this point was affected by this. it makes no sense. >> reporter: the owner of ftc skateboarding set up this memorial. a fill-in driver gave him wayne's tag off the u.p.s. truck he would have been driving today. ken knew mike lefiti from his route as well. >> biggest guy, biggest heart. >> reporter: an unexpected loss. >> think about what you have, appreciate what you have. >> reporter: those who seem to deliver so much more than packages, in san francisco, melanie woodrow, abc7 news. >> a four-hour standoff with police in union city ended with everyone safe today. abc7 news was there as police tried to figure out how to diffuse a tense situation and coax an angry man out of his home. officers had arrived after shouting was heard and a 911

call came in. they say it was a domestic disturbance and other family members got out of the home safely. the man at the center of the incident refused to do so. the s.w.a.t. team was called in and nearby neighbors were evacuated. >> some time his dog, maybe it's normal. but then we saw police activity. >> eventually he did come out. nanz s neighbors say this is not the first time this happened. he will likely be charged. >> a woman's body was found inside a suitcase. lee bell was found gld of first degree murder. he was the boyfriend of 54-year-old pearla louis which is. she was found badly beaten and curled inside a large suitcase that washed up near the embarcadero. the case proved to be a rallying point for better protection of victims of domestic violence. >> after four days of deliberations, the jury in the bill cosby trial say it's dead locked. the judge has ordered them to

keep trying. abc news reporter is live with the details. >> reporter: after more than 30 hours of deliberation, the jury said it is dead locked. the jurors now back behind closed doors with the judge instructing him to keep trying to reach a decision. >> this deadlock shows the not guilty that mr. cosby has been saying the entire time. that he's not guilty of these charges. >> this is not a vindication of anybody and it's not the end. it's not over until it's over. and it's not over yet. >> reporter: the jury deliberating bill cosby's fate since monday asked the judge six questions over four days, including a request to hear excerpts from cosby's 2005 deposition in a civil suit brought by his accuser andrea constand where he admitted to giving her benadryl so she could relax and graphically described what he calls a consensual sexual encounter. he didn't ask for permission to

touch her, but she did not refuse his initial advances. the jury also asked to hear the testimony of the police officer who conducted constant's initial police interview when she first reported the assault. constand accused cosby of giving her three blue pills and then sexually assaulting her at his pennsylvania home in 2004. on monday during closing arguments, prosecutors described cosby as a calculating sexual preditor. the defense told the jury cosby may have been an adulterer, but he was no criminal. and this morning the judge denied the defense's motion for a mistrial. instead instructed the jury to keep deliberating. elizabeth tur, abc news, north town, pennsylvania. >> uber now faces a federal investigation for how it handles the personal data of its ride hailing customers. the federal investigation is leading that probe of san francisco-based uber. this comes as the company is dealing with sexual harassment

complaints that prompted a shake up among some top company executives. uber just paid $20 million in january to settle federal charges that it used misleading information to attract new drivers. >> mark zuckerberg wants to make it easier for teachers to buy homes near their schools along the peninsula. the facebook founder and his wife dr. priscilla chan are giving $5 million to a company called lan don. it pays half of a 20% down for educators. media partner mercury news says zuckerberg will help 3,000 teachers in the redwood area. >> real estate is skyrocketing in that area. speaking of skyrocketing. spencer christian is here with temperatures that will do the same. >> good lead in. i like that. temperatures will rise into the triple digit next week into next week. hears ape look at live doppler 7. let's mosey on ore. better to mosey than scurry. we still have sunny skies and

mild conditions across the bay area. and it's windy. we have gusts right now through 29 miles per hour in novato, 36 mile per hour gusts at s.f.o. right now. 36 down at half moon bay as well. so, all across the area is breezy to windy. this is the view from our east bay hills camera looking at a blue western sky and current temperature readings are 69 in san francisco, mid 70s at oakland and mountain view, 79 at san jose, 86 at gilroy, 64 at half moon bay. lovely view from our mount tam camera. you can see the camera shaking in the breeze at that elevation. it is 90 degrees at santa rosa and concord 88 at napa, novato, 84. rooftop camera mainly blue sky, except for a few thin wispy clouds. heat advisory beginning saturday. triple digit temperatures will be widespread in inland areas for several days and extreme heat will linger into about the middle of next week.

overnight, though, we'll see a little fog returning to the coast line. but it will be mild still in all locations with overnight lows mainly in the mid to upper 50s at some of our inland east bay locations will see lows dropping only into the 60s overnight. then tomorrow look for sunny skies, mild conditions at the coast with highs in the upper 60s to 70s there. we'll see low to mid-'80s around the bay, upper 90s inland and if that is a little too toasty for you, how about heading for the beaches tomorrow. most beach locations around the bay area will have highs in the upper 60s. santa cruz will have a high of 81 tomorrow. sunny skies, mild and breezy at the coast tomorrow. now let's look at the heat advisory again. it goes into effect 11:00 a.m. saturday until 11:00 p.m. monday. once again it may be extended as the heat wave looks like it's going to linger for a while. heat related illnesses possible under these extremely hot conditions. overexposure to the sun a bad thing. try to avoid that and stay hydrated of course. let's look at how hot it's going to be in the coming days.

saturday look for 100 or above in some of the warm est inland locations. hotter on sunday which is fathers day. temperatures 10 to 20 degrees above average. highs of 106 at clear lake. on monday the heat persists, maybe not quite so hot as monday, but -- sunday, but who can tell the difference really when you walk outside between 102 and 105? on we go to the accuweather seven-day forecast. and it's just going to remain hot at least until next wednesday with the triple digit heat, not easing up until next thursday. by the way, summer begins owe initially at 9:24 p.m. on tuesday. but it certainly feels summer like already. at least it will over the weekend. >> for sure. thank you, spencer. >> just ahead on abc7 news at 4:00, talk about a family rivalry, the amazing stunt today by one of the great

>> announcer: live where you live, this is abc7 news. >> and here are the stories making headlines at 4:30. we are learning more about the victims of yesterday's deadly shooting of three u.p.s. drivers by a fellow driver in san francisco. ben son louie was a beloved volleyball coach of the chinese american sports group. about a dozen of those that he coached gathered to remember him

at the shooting scene today. a memorial for wayne chan, a book smith in the haight, he lived there a decade. michael lefiti was a hercules. he worked there 17 years. police still trying to figure out why his colleagues. they are deeply disappointed with te judge's decision today to give her estranged husband a 13-day jail sentence with three years probation. also coming up at 5:00, abc7 news reporter wayne freedman talking with warriors fans in oakland, some of whom climbed the walls to get a great seat at the parade and a rally to celebrate their nba finals victory today. sky 7 shows the huge crowd that gathered at lake merritt. abc7 news anchor eric thomas live at oakland police headquarters where, eric, the police had a huge job to keep the crowds safe. >> reporter: and if you needed to find a cop during the parade in oakland today, the parade

grounds, that was the place to find them. security was very tight. some of those officers were still returning to headquarters right now. the 2015 nba victory parade cost a little less than $250,000. we don't know how much this one cost yet, but it looks like they got their money's worth. when one of the biggest stars on the best basketball team in the world comes down off a parade float to mingle with fans and share what an nba championship means, people pay attention. >> this is for every person in the bay area who loves basketball, enjoys the coaching here. this is what it's all about. >> this is what it's all about. >> yeah! >> reporter: actually for oakland police keeping the celebration safe was what it was all about. that's why you saw plenty of cops on foot, on motorcycles, even on jet skis patrolling the waters on lake merritt, balancing fun and vigilance. police chief says things went well. >> great, excellent. everybody is in a celebration -- they're having a great time.

and the abc7 news app. >> absolutely. because of our coverage of the dub nation celebration, this morning's episode of the view can be seen or recorded overnight at 2:12 a.m. in other news today, the pilot of a small advertising blimp was seriously burned when the aircraft crashed then exploded in flames near the u.s. open golf tournament in wisconsin today. authorities say the pilot was taken to the hospital by helicopter. he was the only person aboard that blimp. take a look. the blimp on fire and smoking went down in an open field. look at that. about a half mile from the aaron hills golf course. the company that owns the blimp says there was a catastrophic failure of the air ship's envelope or outer skin. >> i was teeing off and i looked up and saw it on fire. i felt sick to my stomach. i had the shakes. i felt terrible for the people inside. i didn't know what was going on, so, it was a horrible sight. i don't really know still what happened so i'm hoping that guys

got out okay. >> u.s. open officials say the blimp wasn't affiliated with the usga or the open itself. the tournament, one of golf's four majors, just got underway today. >> as representative steve scalise continues to recover from yesterday's shooting in virginia, members of congress are showing their support. they're going to play tonight's charity baseball game as scheduled. abc's lana zach is there at nationals park. >> reporter: congressman scalise remains in critical condition after being wounded by a lone wolf shooter at a ball field. >> it's been much more difficult than people thought at the time. he's in some trouble. he's a great fighter. >> reporter: while 26 republican member of congress and their staff practice for tonight's charities baseball game, they came under attack. the congressional aide was one of the people shot. >> i was a sitting duck. i may have run down the right field line -- third base rather, ran into the dugout, literally running for my life. >> reporter: also wounded

on. they are no doubt praying for the recovery of representative steve scalise. >> a nearly unanimous decision today, the senate passed a bill that would slap russia with new sanctions. the vote was 98-2. bernie sanders of vermont and rand paul were dissenters. they will have the ability to roll back sanctions under the bill. as well as over russia's aggression in ukraine and syria. the senate intelligence committee will not investigate whether president trump attempted to obstruct justice in the probe into his campaign's contacts with russian officials. >> committee members said today they will leave that to special counsel robert mueller. the panel will stay focused on investigating russia's role in the 2016 election. there is a new poll, and americans think president trump has tried to interfere with the investigation into russia's alleged election meddling and possible trump campaign collusion.

the associated press norc center for public affairs research survey shows that 48% say they are very or extremely concerned about the possibility of mr. trump or his campaign associates had inappropriate ties to russia. another 20% say they are moderately concerned. just 30% said they are not that concerned. >> ex-fbi director james comey has a place to receive political asylum if he wants it. moscow. russian president vladimir putin made that sarcastic offer to comey during a four-hour live colin show. he compared comey to snowden when he made the tongue in cheek off. >> translator: seems to me in this case it's not so much the head of the fbi that is an activist with his own particular point of view. by the way, if he faces some sort of prosecution for this, we are prepared to give him political asylum, too. he should know that. >> in that same interview, putin said comey didn't prove russia interfered with the past u.s. election.

>> australian prime minister malcome turn bull may have reopened a rift between himself and president trump. turn bull was at the australian parliament's mid winter ball when he was caught on audiotape mocking the president's speaking style. mr. trump described their relationship as fantastic when they met last month. earlier the men reportedly had kind of a tense phone call in which they clashed over a refugee deal that was struck under the obama administration. >> we are hearing for the first time from the father of the student released tuesday from north korea in a coma. it was two years ago when oto pleaded for lien yens in the north korean court. he was charged with stealing a propaganda poster and sentenced to 15 years in jail. his dad says the family no longer has to kowtow to north korea. >> we are not burdened with whatever north korea says or does any longer. the family is not. and i'm so happy for cindy,

the mission changed today at the scene of that deadly london high-rise fire from a rescue effort now to a recovery mission. officials say the death toll which is now at 17 could still rise. abc7 news reporter monthly i hunter has more from london. >> reporter: as the inferno blazed escaping from these top floors seemed unimaginable. and now the first video from inside. >> we're stuck on the 25th floor. hello. >> reporter: the fire spreading within 30 minutes from the fourth up to the 24th stories. and more than 36 hours later many still missing, still unaccounted for. >> we are angry. i'm not going to lie. the locals are angry.

complaint of a man being dragged off the american airlines flight, it may have caused other angry passengers speak up about their own gripes. complaints rose a full 70% in april compared to the april last year. the department of transportation received 753com plants about flight delays and cancellations. that's twice as many as last year. complaints, pardon me, about overbooking, also doubled to 89 in april. the group fliers rights.org said passengers used to think travel problems were normal. now not so much. they're speaking up. costco is launching a program to remove merchandise that contains harmful chemicals. the big box store says it will screen products to see if they contain any of 300 chemicals considered potentially harmful. the manufacturers don't remove the harmful ingredients, costco says it will remove the products. costco says it will screen products from clothing to furniture to cleaning supplies.
