whipped up through the hills. homes were damaged on bay hurst. helicopters doused these streets with a pink kas kads of fire retardant that coated homes, coated driveways and cars. it was a harrowing afternoon for residents who debated making a run for it as they watched the fire skirt through open space in between their homes. everybody was praising the fire firefighters for how good a job they did protecting homes. it could have been much worse up here. a total of 15 acres and they are still working on putting this fire out. >> let's take a look at the traffic maps with live info right there showing the gridlock. all that red along eastbound interstate 80.

the highs so far has opinibeen blazing hot inland. right around the bay it's not so bad. not even close to records but pretty warm. oakland 85. redwood city 88. virtually all the bay area except the coast remains under the heat advisory or excessive heat warning for those in red. here's the good news. notice what will happen tonight. fog will return to the coast. we'll start the day tomorrow with much lower temperatures than we started the day today. it means essentially this intense heat wave is coming to an end. i'll have a closer look a bit later. >> thank you so much, spencer. we want to take a live look. you can see no more flames there but the charred hillside. we're just getting word it's 20 acres burned but the good news is it only minimally affected

bart from questioning the legal status of riders or assisting federal agents unless required by a court order. some riders are afraid of being detained by agents on bart. >> as we seen, immigration officials have gone to schools, they've got to ports and this is a fear that many immigrant communities already had and it's just been made worse by this administration. >> just to be clear, the policy does not declare bart as sanctuary. that is to avoid jeopardizing federal transit funds. it does not prohibit federal immigration agents from going on to the trains and into the stations. a san francisco judge said uber must give records about drivers to determine if they have proper business licenses. officials wanted to ensure the drivers complied with san francisco's business and tax code.

ncht sky 7 overahead as three men were rescued on the san francisco bay yesterday. today abc 7 news reporter caught up with the ferry captain whose watchful eye saved the men from a dangerous situation. >> the current had the boat spinning around under water. it's kind of a bad situation. >> reporter: captain jim lily describing the rough conditions on the bay yesterday.

we saw a couple of guys waving. >> reporter: at 2:30, he noted them about the boat in distress and said they were going on a detour to help. >> we yelled over to them and asked if they were okay. they kind of gave us a little bit. we're kind of okay. that right away is when we said we need to get the man overboard gear ready. >> reporter: they rescue about ten people from the bay a year and they assist the coast guard with dozens more rescues which is why they train regularly on man overboard procedures. >> in this cabinet is where we keep our overboard ladder, life vests with ropes, life rings. >> reporter: sky 7 overhead as the ferry crew lowered the net ladder and threw a life vest on a rope to one of the men struggling in the 55-degree water. >> my crew wrapped them up with a blanket once we got on the boat. eventually somebody would have found them but they were pretty
