onch our other top story, a grass fire fills the air and so does an aerial assault. people on the ground couldn't believe it. >> i saw a bunch of smoke. i grabbed my dog and came out here. >> i was at work and i could not drive fast enough. >> good evening. >> this fire started before 1:00 not far from the toll plaza on interstate 80. >> reporter: fire crews still hear on the scene. a carry afternoon. i know that many residents in this neighborhood trekked out on foot grabbing their pets as they left. othe rushed back in to kids who were home alone for summer vacation, elderly parents at home. total chaos for a while but chaos with a happy ending. a wall of flames crackled up this dry hillside toward the glen cove neighborhood. a plane

>> the pink stuff came flying down. we got sprayed by it. i went down the hill more. >> reporter: rst were told to evacuate. other neighbors pondered whether to leave. >> i was coming from the bridge and i could see the smoke from over there. i knew it was huge. >> reporter: the conse concerte effort saved the thohomes. it quickly spread where the dry grass was the places as tall as the firefighters. heat wasn't a problem. the temperature was in the 80s but wind did play a part. here along bay hurst drive backyard patios and landscaping burned and roof tops blackened.

temperatures were in the comfort zone with 60s, 70s, some 80s and 90s around the bay. take it easy out there. we're not out of this yet even though we're seeing the changes on live doppler 7 as fog is makes its way northward from monterey. look at this picture. the golden gate bridge not even visible. a welcome sight. i'll let you know how much cooler it will get over the coming days straight ahead. you know this was a good day to be on the water to get some relief from the heat. it was a hard thing to do working in the vineyards.

senate republicans unveiled their version of a health care bill after weeks of closed door talks. it medicaid medicaid. millions will lose health care coverage while millionaires profit. the american people deserve better. that's from the governor. his statements echo the thoughts of many in the bay area. abc 7 news reporter has more.

>> reporter: no buts about it. under obamacare anyone earning $200,000 or more pays an extra tax that helps fund health care. that extra tax would be eliminated. republicans have always welcomed that proposal. >> i think it's a bad thing when you rely on a small percentage of wealthy pple tound health care for other people. >> reporter: also under the new bill, states would get a fixed amount of money each year based on enrollment. starting in 2025, the annual growth rate of those funds would be pegged on standard inflation not medical inflation. at a rally in san francisco general doctors and nurses said that would eventually leave many without a way to pay for health care. >> to take the most vulnerable and starve them of the cost of health care. >> reporter: then there are the subsidies. under the senate bill only those earning up to 350% of the

poverty level would qualify. under obama care it's 400%. what does that mean? it means that someone earning 351% of poverty is probably receiving more than $5,000 a year in subsidies. under the senate bill, that goes away. then there's medicaid. right now under obamacare medicaid receives extra funding. it's called an expansion. under the senate bill funding would start phasing out. by 2024, it would beerrestored o what it was before obamacare. >> reporter: republicans can only afford to lose two gop senators in order for it to pass. abc 7 news. >> the list of places that are banned for official travel by california state workers has grown by. it's been banned for a while

because those states have laws denying services to gay and transgender people. they said we will not spend taxpayer dollars in states that discriminate. a marine county man convicted of shooting at a girl he likes could get decades taken offer his sentence. he received 21 years to life for attempted murder. wade was under 18 when he committed the crimes but prosecutors tried him as an adult under proposition 57. judges, not prosecutors must decide if juvenile nis could be prosecuted as adults. he could be release in two years when he turned 25.

if you ride bart get ready to pay a little extra. fares are going up and that's not the only thing changes. >> reporter: bart is way of life for many. >> everybody wants to ride. everybody wants to sit. >> reporter: those rides are about to get more costly. >> they're finding every which way to charge people. i don't think that's fair. >> reporter: starting next year bart will impose a 50 cent surcharge or paper tickets all in an effort to raise revenue and push more people to use a clipper cart. >> that's a lot of money especially when you're retired and your income is set. any 50 cent counts. >> reporter: most riders aren't happy about it. >> knowing that if something is wrong with the ticket and i can bring it here and they will adjust it for me. i don't really want to mess with that. >> reporter: fares will go up 2.7% to account for inflation. >> if you're using bart regularly, getting a clipper cart probably isn't the worst thing. >> reporter: board things voted

to rescind the seat hog ordinance that was supposed to stop single riders using more than one seat during commuting hours. a plan to enforce it was never developed. >> we have to get to the route of the issue and i'm happy to work on that policy. >> reporter: beginning in january passengers under the age of 18 will receive a 50% discount. with the fare modifications they hope to bring in $4.1 million next year. it looks like derek carr is the richest man, at least by salary. the team deal will pay carr $125 million over five years. when he moves to las vegas, he won't have to pay state income tax on the money. the 26-year-old quarterback is credited with leading the raiders back to prominence. they made their first playoff

definitely some 90s. you can see our natural ac is back in business. what this means is you'll feel the difference out there. look at this beautiful shot of the fog rolling in. the bridge is shrouded this fog. the intense heat eases tomorrow and the cooling trend will continue this upcoming weekend. tomorrow morning starting out mild. it will be foggy and there will be reduced visibility. definitely be careful. temperatures near the coast and around the bay in the 50s. notice that fog. by midnight it's covering the coastal spots. as we head towards tomorrow
