prayer. sky ride fall. a teen dangling from an amusement park ride. the people below telling her to let go. and harry's confession. the prince and his new revelation. what he was about to do. and good evening. thanks for joining us on this sunday. i'm tom llamas. we begin tonight with president trump facing decisions on two of his top agenda items. first, repealing and replacing obamacare. senate republicans pushing for a vote by the end of the week, but it will be a nail biter. not all of the republicans are on board. protesters already organizing. democrats promising a fight. the same time, the president is also -- whether the supreme court will take up the travel ban. more on that in a moment. but first, abc's david wright on the battle on capitol hill.

>> reporter: tonight the white house is still hoping to close the deal on the senate's plan to repeal and replace obamacare. but the president himself acknowledges they're not there yet. >> i don't think they're that far off. you know, famous last words, but i think we're going to get there. >> reporter: not a single democrat supports the bill. and republicans are not exactly in lock step either. five of them have said they'll vote no. five others have expressed concerns. some, like rand paul, say the bill doesn't go far enough. >> there's no way the republican bill brings down premiums. look, i've been in medicine 20 years. i'm 54 years old. premiums have never gone down. they're not going to go down after the republican bill. >> reporter: others, like maine's susan collins, say it'd would be catastrophic for older citizens with serious chronic illnesses. >> i'm also very concerned about the medicaid cuts, what it means to our most vulnerable citizens. >> reporter: during the campaign, trump vowed to deliver health care reform without cutting medicaid, which the poor rely on.

>> save medicare, medicaid and social security without cuts. have to do it. and i'm going to save them, ok? we're gonna take care of medicaid and medicare, we're gonna take care of all of the things that frankly, right now, we can't do. okay? >> reporter: today kellyanne conway insisted the senate gop plan delivers on that promise. >> these are not cuts to medicaid, george. this slows the rate for the future and it allows governors more flexibility, with medicaid dollars, because they're closest to the people in need. >> reporter: but that's not what the republican governor of ohio says. >> over a ten-year period, medicaid funding will be significantly curtailed, and not accompanied at this point with the kind of flexibility we need. >> reporter: a point on which he and bernie sanders seem to agree. this weekend, senator sanders has been leading the charge against the bill.

>> this bill is immoral. this bill is not what we as americans stand for, this bill must be defeated. >> and david wright joins us live from the white house. david, the deadline for the republicans fast approaching to vote on this bill. >> reporter: well, it's a self-imposed deadline but the senate majority leader has made it clear he wants to bring in a vote before they adjourn for the fourth of july recess so that means only a couple days. to wrangle the votes. tom? >> a busy week, thank you. the deadline looming, the end of the supreme court's term. tomorrow they are expected to issue a decision on the president's travel ban. will they sink it or keep it alive? and another decision may also be coming, if one of the justices has decided to retire. abc easterry moran who covers the supreme court for us joins me now. the travel ban is one of the most controversial things in the trump presidency. >> reporter: hugely controversial.

he hit a nerve and triggering massive protest and getting hard core support. but in the courts, it's been trouble from the go. now it's the supreme court. they can do what others say. they can block the ban or they can side with the president. saying they have a lot of power when it comes to national security issues or they can hold off for now and decide to hear the case last fall. >> terry, there is also mounting speculation that judge anthony kennedy may retire. this would be an epic showdown to fill his seat. >> reporter: epic indeed. he is a swing vote for more than decade, holding on affirmative action, and abortion. orr hot button issues. if he goes, this court is up for grabs. president trump has already made some overtures to justice kennedy. at the joint session in congress

he made a point to stop to chat to justice kennedy. their sons know each other in the new york real estate game. and a former kennedy clerk, many people saw that as a signal to justice kennedy that if he wants to retire, he will count on president trump to s nominate somebody he can deal with. tom? >> terry moran at the supreme court, thank you. next to the west, the unrelenting and deadly heat wave triggering two dozen wildfires. the time lapsed video in arizona. you can see it there. and texas, two more children losing their lives in hot cars. abc's ginger zee tracking it all. >> reporter: tonight, the heat wave now deadly -- as at least 21 large wildfires rage across eight states. right now this brush fire near los angeles scorching 100 acres and growing quickly. >> you never know what it's going to do. >> reporter: in southern utah, this blaze scorching over 60 square miles forcing at least 700 people out of their homes. >> we were able to go in and get the things we needed to.

>> reporter: more than a dozen homes already destroyed and firefighters dousing the flames from above. >> we are dealing with just absolutely unprecedented wildfire. >> reporter: roaring wildfires in arizona, prompting a state of emergency. this area northeast of tucson now ravaged by fire for more than two weeks. >> we want people to be ready and get out. >> reporter: all of this unfolding in the middle of a blistering stretch of heat -- the sweltering weather now blamed in at least four deaths this weekend including two toddlers, one found dead inside his father's car in houston. soaring temperatures triggering power outages and hundreds of flight delays this week. >> this is not the day for the air to be going out. >> reporter: in some spots, like phoenix, excessive heat warnings now stretching into their eighth day. >> all right, chief meteorologist ginger zee joins us live now. with the heat wave turning deadly, ginger, what can we expect over the next few days?

>> reporter: tom, there is some relief in sight. i want to take you straight to the maps. i want to show you the 21 large wildfire, which states they're in. wyoming, new mexico, oregon. that matches with the heat watches and warnings down to arizona. here's the good news. for places like phoenix has been up around 115 for a couple days, we so see some cooling. 108 will help a little for the wildfires. at least for the wildfires. and in the pacific, tropical storm dora on the west coast of mexico, heavy rains and very rough as fash as the beaches go, tom? >> ginger, thank you. next to the scare in the air and what passengers heard from the cockpit made it worse. the plane shaking violently. and the pilot calling an emergency and sharing his own concerns with them and telling them, quote, say a prayer. erielle reshef has the story. >> reporter: tonight, dramatic video of the plane shaking

violently in the sky. passengers are detailing the moments of distress. >> you can tell, it was really bad. >> reporter: one say it was shuddering like a washing machine. >> reporter: the engine off the left wing appearing to sputter. the pilots issuing an ominous warning and telling people on board to pray. >> also please listen to everything. our survivaldy depends on your cooperating. hopefully everything will work out for the best. >> reporter: the flight departed perth, australia, headed for kuala lumpur. emergency crews on the ground told to prepare for rescues in the ocean. crisis eventually averted.

the pilot finally landing the plane in perth. the low cost carrier only saying the plane had a technical issue. no one was hurt but this is certainly a close call. passengers described hearing a loud bang before it started. they are investigating what caused that scare in the sky. tom? >> likely speaking to the pilot as well. thanks. overseas, a devastating toll after a tanker truck crashed in pakistan. scores of people rushing to the scene to collect some of the leaking fuel and then the tanker erupted into the fire ball, killing nearly everybody nearby. ron claiborne with the series of events. >> reporter: tonight, the tanker engulfed in flames. 150 people killed, many burns in an instant. just an hour earlier, the tanker truck with thousands of gallons of fuel overturned after a driver lost control rounding the curve. soon people in the nearby

village descended to collect the spilled gasoline. police warned people to get away. but the crowd grew. and then came the explosion. but a scene of apocalyptic horror. one man said i could hear people screaming but i couldn't get in there. soon what remained was that. the charred motor bikes and cars. later more people would come. this coming shouting, searching. a mother pleading, where are my beloved sons, please, tell me? no one could. pakistani officials are investigating. it may have been a spark from a vehicle going by. some witnesses blame a lit cigarette that someone passing by way have dropped. tom? >> what a accident. thanks. a video no mom wants to see. a california mom turned to her nanny cam to see her 2-year-old

being abused by the nurse they hired to care for him. some of this video is graphic. here is marcy gonzalez with the tale of the tape. >> reporter: helpless and screaming -- the video allegedly shows 2-year-old landon ko, repeatedly pinched, slapped, even hit with a rolled up magazine, by the nurse, his parents trusted to care for their special needs child. >> he was just being tortured. >> reporter: his parents, more than an hour away at their oldest son's basketball game, when his mom dyanna just happened to check their nanny-cam from her phone. >> we were like what do we do? what do we do? it was such a panic mode. >> reporter: they called 911 and rushed home, horrified by the behavior toward their toddler who has rubenstien-tabi syndrome which causes developmental and physical delays. >> she's been getting paid to provide care for our son who has these needs and she abused her power, she abused my son. >> reporter: the nanny-cam still rolling as police arrested nurse thelma manalastas. the ko family, now suing her,

and the company she worked for. in a statement, maxim healthcare tells abc news they investigated and fired manastas, adding -- the care and safety of our patients is our highest priority. the ko family's attorney offering this advice to other parents. >> ask for a copy of the background check, a good idea to have a nannycam up as well. >> reporter: the local prosecutor says manalastas is under investigation but charges have not been filed. our calls to her for comment were not returned. tom? >> that video, so tough to watch. all right, thank you. next to a scene in an amusement park in new york. a 14-year-old hanging from her arms and neck from a ride. other visitors and staff rushing to stand irnd under her, telling her to let go and let them catch here. tonight, adrian bankert with the

story. >> reporter: tonight, caught on camera. the teenage girl hanging. more than two stories from a gondola ride. a child with her trying to hold on to her. both screaming. >> her neck is stuck. >> reporter: a panicked crowd of guests and staff gathered below in six flags in albany, new york, ready to catch her. the legs swaying. >> they will catch you, honey. go ahead. >> reporter: the teen finally falls. she is air lifted to a local hospital. >> unconscious at this time. being transported. >> matthew howard and his daughter among those helping to break her fall. >> she got herself free and hung on and let go and my father and i caught her as she came down. >> reporter: howard says he was injured when he caught the girl. she landed on his chest. >> if she didn't get caught, she would have been in a body cast. full on beaten, broken bones or worse. >> reporter: six flags says ride has been cleared for operation but it will remain closed while they conduct a thorough review. investigators say they found nothing wrong with the ride when she slipped out and her injuries were not serious.

girl who loved to play outside, one of the first victims of tick season. >> her grandmother would have one tiny slide out on her yard and she said park? and she would run outside and think that that was her park. >> reporter: doctors first diagnosed 2-year-old kenley ratliff with strep throat. days later she died, reportedly from rocky mountain spotted fever, a disease spread by ticks. infections from tick-borne disease are on the rise and because of a warm winter, public health officials warn this could be the worst tick season ever. there are seven different ticks that bite people, and they're found in all 50 states. camps are taking extra precaution. in connecticut, counselors getting special training to in chicago, one camp moving out of a heavily wooded area to minimize risk. in new york, we found families also on alert. is it a big concern? >> it's a very big concern. >> we check them every night especially before you go to bed.
