now from abc 7, live, breaking news. >> and that breaking news is out of san jose, a street is partially shut down as they are investigating a double shooting. thanks for joining us today, i'm reggie. >> and i'm kristin z. one man is dead. a woman shot survived. it's all happening on santee drive. not far from santee elementary. >> david louis live at the scene, david. >> reporter: reggie and kristin, right here on cresten lane. you can see there are at least 11 san jose police cars on this side of the street, it's only one block longer, other police cars on the back, very active investigation scene. let's go to video that shows kbro what you we first saw on the scene shortly after 9:00 this morning.

it shows police officers fanning out where they found a body of a man lying in the middle of the lane shot and wounded. he was pronounced dead on the scene. at a house nearby, they found a woman who was wounded, at least one time. they have taken her away to the hospital, she's at regional medical center in san jose and believed to be -- they believe that she is going to survive. her wound or wounds. the police were fanned out throughout this neighborhood to try to figure out exactly what was going on. other than the body that was in the middle of the street, they had no witnesses immediately to tell them had there been an argument, some sort of altercati altercation, what was behind this. they went door to door to piece together what happened. now there were some individuals who were brought out and detained briefly by san jose police, they were put had in handcuffs. there were two adult women, and a child not put in handcuffs. they were detained for an hour or so while they were trying to put together what happened at the scene. it's believed those individuals

in hand did yo haves were tenants of a house possibly where the woman had been found wounded. that's what we understand at this point. san jose police are still trying to fill us in on all the details of exactly what happened. this is officially being handled by the san jose police homicide unit, and they are, of course, on the scene here now. and they expect to have this street blocked off for quite a while. we are live in san jose, david louis, abc 7 news. >> thank you. new developments in the shooting of a sacramento sheriff's deputy. abc 7 news learned in the past 9 90 minutes, the suspect is also linked to another violent crime in the bay area. this happened nearly a decade ago. so here is a look at the suspect we are talking about. investigators say he used the deputy's own gun to shoot that deputy in the face last night. the 27-year-old is now jailed on attempted murder charges. deputy alex ladwig a four year veteran of the department is still in the hospital. he is stable after undergoing

extensive surgery to his jaw last night. the shooting happened at a light rail station around 6:00. investigators say span attacked the deputy, grabbed his gun, and then fired two shots. now back in 2008, span was arrested in the shooting deaths of a brother and sister during a robbery in mountainview, three men were convicted in those murders in december, but not span. happening now, at this hour, b.a.r.t. is unveiling the replacement for the last decoy camera on it's system. every camera on every train is now a real working security camera after a major upgrade and a major controversy. abc 7 mornings jessica cast voe here with details. >> at this very minute, work crews are wrapping up installation, and when that camera is in place, every single one will be operational, no more decoys. the entire project, including labor costs $1.42 million, that cash coming from b.a.r.t.'s operating budget.

now equipped with four cameras on board. and the move to get rid of the cameras started after public outcry a year and a half ago. carlos ramiro was killed on a train. video showed the suspect exiting the station, but no video of the murder on the train. the suspect is still on the run. that sparked outrage among passengers, so b.a.r.t. promised real cameras. >> i actually had one case that a guy made a speech a real camera. >> each camera lasts about six to seven years, b.a.r.t. says that will coincide with the rollout of the new trains that will have built-in cameras and here is a tip for anyone that uses b.a.r.t. make sure you pay attention to what car number you're in. you can find that posted above the end doors of each car, having that number will make it easier for investigators to track down the video if you do need to report criminal

activity. jessica castro, abc 7 news. >> you just taught me something, never thought of that. santa cruz doctor accused of sexual assaulting children. despite prosecutor's objections, a judge granted the doctor bail. and for the first time, we saw one of the nurses accused of being an accomplice. matt keller live in santa cruz, matt. >> reporter: good morning, reggie, protesters were out here earlier trying to send a message to the judge that they did not want dr. james kohut released on bail. but they ened up walking away disappointed. a contentious bail hearing in santa cruz superior court for dr. james kohut. >> the court has to do calculations -- >> reporter: the prosecution asked the judge to set bail at $40 million. he is charged with 11 counts of sex crimes against children, that could bring a sentence of 165 years to life if convicted. steven moore argued the

neurosurgeon was a flight risk and has substantial assets. defense attorney jay asked for a million dollar's bail, in the end, the judge set bail at 6.million. he would be under house arrest and limits on internet access and no contact order with potential witnesses and alleged victims. >> we definitely appreciate the courts analysis, but nonetheless, we are concerned that that may not be sufficient to protect the public. >> reporter: was in court this morning. faces similar charges related and already had bail set at $500,000. the judge approved a motion from the attorney general's office denying her ability to practice as a registered nurse until the case is completed. judge salazar also approved a motion bringing her case together for the time being. her defense attorney, anthony robinson says they met at dominican hospital in santa cruz. >> there was a dating relationship. i don't know the length of time. it hasn't been all that lengthy.

>> reporter: robinson says brandon has had traumatic events and abuse in her past and suffered from ptsd. something that may be a factor in this case. >> this is something he has had a significant amount of impact in her life. this certainly isn't something that miss brandon has been involved with ever in the past, and clearly from what we're hearing about him, this is something that is his m.o. throughout significant period of history. >> reporter: prosecutors are still in the process of extraditing the other defendant in this case, emily stevens from arizona. they're hoping to have her back here in santa cruz county for the next hearing that's scheduled for july 27th. matt keller, abc 7 news. >> matt, thank you. in washington, the house is set to vote tomorrow on two bills designed to toughen up immigration enforcement. the first bill, kate's law, is named after kate steinly, the bay area woman shot and killed

at pier 14 two years ago by an undocumented immigrant with a criminal history. kate's law would increase penalties on undocumented criminals who reenter the u.s. illegally, such as her killer did. the other bill, the no sanctuary for criminals act would make sanctuary cities inel i believe j top make for funds. the white house is expected to sign both into law if passed. new developments in the oakland police sex scandal, federal judge is now ordering the city appear in court to discuss thousand handled the investigation. the judge says a new report finds very troubling conclusions about how city leaders and oakland police acted after learning multiple officers had sexually exploited the woman you stlee, she was a teenager known as celeste. the report found the city mishandled allegations and didn't investiate what went wrong nap hearing is going to take place july 10th. new details in uber, former ceo travis can count on the

support of at least one big name in silicon valley following his resignation. former yahoo ceo ma ris is meyer is coming to his defense. she suggests he didn't know about uber's toxic culture because of how quickly the company grew. the chronicle reports meyer made the remarks at sanford yesterday, she said quote, i don't think he knew. when your company scales that quickly, it's hard. meyer compared uber's situation to the early days of google when it first brought in eric schmitt to help co-founders manage the company. the fourth of july holiday is coming up fast and parts of the bay area already seeing firework stands open up. it's confusing what is it and isn't allowed in the cities. and that's why we have tiffany wilson standing by for us in dublin, tiffany. >> reporter: hey there, reggie. well make it easying with neigh explodes or goes in the air is illegal throughout all of the bay area, however, safe and sane fireworks like the one stocking the booth behind me, they are

allowed in several communities including right near dublin. the boxes are unopened, but you can already sense burnett's excitement. >> most of our kits last a good hour, hour and a half, from beginning to end, and then throw in a couple of big ones at the end and fabulous. >> reporter: this fireworks booth off dublin boulevard benefits many churches outreach programs. >> we made a little over 15,000 last year. so, it helps a lot. >> reporter: safe and sane fireworks don't explode or leave the ground, but even they aren't allowed in most bay area communities. the san francisco fire department tweeting today, know before you buy, all fireworks are illegal in san francisco city and county. the alameda county fire marshal says you must pay close attention to the rules where you live. >> if you're under an hoa, your hoa may prohibit them. you need to look at your particular situation and where they're allowed. >> reporter: bonnie says even the safe and sane fireworks carry risks.

part of president trump's travel ban could take effect tomorrow morning. the ban limits immigration from six countries, but a supreme court ruling allows people with bona fide relationships with people or places in the u.s. to come into the country. of course, officials are still working to determine what counts as a bona fide relationship. now today meantime, homeland security is set to announce new rules for international flights coming to the u.s. airports and airlines around the world must follow the new policy. if they don't, passengers may not be allowed to bring laptops from large electronics in carry on bags. officials say the new policy could lift the laptop ban in place at ten airports right now in the middle east and africa. emergency repairs are set to begin soon in santa cruz county. two steel piles that hold the

a new survey reveals the top 20 best beach towns and water font communities to live in. and only one city, one city in california made the cut. it's right here in the bay area. and it's a surprise all right. mill valley, number 19 there. topping the list is naples, florida, followed by key west and eden prairie, minnesota. >> what? >> yep. minnesota representing here. wallet hub says it's based on most livable communities and things like the weather, housing costs, which can't be low in mill valley, and safety and quality of life. >> look, i love mill valley. it's an awesome area, but it's not a beach town.

advisory, east of the golden gate, all the way through the delta, that's area seen in yellow. now the coast, this goes through 3:00 tomorrow morning. it's going to be quite brisk if you're in either of those areas and quite choppy also. let's see what the breezes do to our temperatures, 37 in milpi s milpitas, 80s around the morgan hill, and the most sunshine along the coast, down here in santa cruz, and that's why you're at 72. and the planes, about 71 to 75, and the breeze coming through the san bruno gap, about 66, it'll be cooler with our coast today because of the lack of sunshine, upper 50s to low 60s, only 63 in downtown san francisco, average high about 69 degrees. if you're going to the ball park, it's a possibility we could sweep the rockies out of here. three game series. 12:45 first pitch, 12i6 degrees. warming to 64, don't tlaet sunshine fool you. it'll burn you no matter how chilly the temperature is. all right. 76 in san rafael, 65 in the area to about 81 in santa rosa. and the east bay shore.
