here. cal fire has an air tanker here that's been dropping retardant. we see a helicopter that can do aerial drops. the wind is fairly calm up here. the fire has not raced up or down the hills. at first they thought it was going to be burning together but that does not appear to be the case. sky 7 was also overhead of some other fires. there's two other fires that's been burning. another fire at twin gates that's about two miles in the ob sit direction. this is point not sure after what the total acreage is. we do not see any buildings, any structures in danger. this is going to be for now, at

check out this view from the east bay hills. looking westward towards the fog that's about to smother the city of san francisco. 79 degrees in santa rosa. napa 75. 89 at concord and 82 at livermore. here is with the forecast animation starting. we'll see the fog coming back to the coastline and out over the bay during the overnight hours. we might see a spot or two of localized drizzle near the coastline overnight. by afternoon tomorrow it will be sunny all across the bay area. i'll show you the weekend forecast in just a few minutes. we are following developing news out of southern california. fire crews are fighting two new wildfires near louisiana. th -- los angeles. at this point the fire is burning away from homes. take a look at this video from just about 30 minutes ago. the fire is in steep rocky terrain a few miles away in

calabasas. fire crews a battle another fire. fire crews say nothing is threatened now. damp ocean air moved in overnight slows the fire's pace to a crawl. the fire has burned more than 700 acres and just 10 just 10 j0 contained. dia dianne feinstein say i encourage off to practice care. a plume of black smoke billowed from a junk yard fire. a viewer shared this video.

more than 100 cases of sexual harassment involving employees were reported over a three-year period. we are live from uc berkeley with those changes. >> reporter: right. you know a year and a half ago the uc system came up with guidelines for students. now we're seeing procedures for faculty and staff regardless of tenure. the process has been streamlined and keeping every one in the loop. more than 100 employees on the ten uc campuses were found to have violated sexual harassment policies. it became president janet napolitano's policy to adapt new policies. >> we're trying to communicate as broadly as we can. all the chancellors are aware. >> reporter: john marshal a faculty member says the changes were needed. >> i have not read the revisions

more. >> reporter: the new procedures must be implemented no later than september 1st. a san jose woman is now in custody after police say she intentionally ran over and killed a friend during an a altercati altercation. she's charged with suspicion of murder and hit and run. she's being held without bail. she ran over a 23-year-old woman on north lee avenue in campbell just after 7:00 tuesday morning. the victim's name has not been released. police arrested her yesterday after spotting her this the car used in the innocent. it was campbell's first murder in more than two years. the house passed two pieces of legislation to crack down on illegal immigration including a bill named in honor of a bay area murder victim. the bill is named after san francisco residents kate stinley

committee. a west hollywood man has been arrested after impersonating a registered nurse to work at st. louis gilroy. state investigators arrested jeremy griffin. the company he worked for grew suspicious after finding the documents were falsified. investigators say it's the second time griffin has impersonated a nurse. he posed as an rn in 2014 and convicted of burglarizing the marina del ray medical facility where he works. dna evidence has helped them identify a suspect in a 2016 bank robbery. it took place at the exchange bank. detectives say dna found on a beanie cap left near the bank matched that of 28-year-old

ceasar garcia. june is immigrant heritage month in the u.s. it's being celebrated today with a unique pop up experience in san francisco. it's called i am an immigrant. it's an opportunity to share unique experiences in art, music, advocacy and more. mayor ed lee was among local leaders to lend the support. it's been a source of strength for this country and must continue to be so. >> it's an opportunity to unite those threats and to really celebrate that whether somebody's family came here 150 years ago to the midwest or coming here today. they are coming here for the sam reasons and a stronger nation because of that. >> organizers say the experience asked americans to take meaningful action and enjoy a growing coalition to proclaim they stand with immigrants. republicans take on some testy tweets from the president. >> tasteless. >> tweets like this are inconsistent with the greatness of the country and the office.

sky 7 over another brush fire in north san jose. there are a lot of houses nearby in this area. flames started at about 4:00 in a field off of mayberry road. you can see they are going over there with fire trucks and trying to get some water on this. we'll stay on top of this and get you more information as soon as we have it. it's been years in the making and the area rail transit or smart train is finally ready for commuters. >> abc 7 news reporter kate larson joins us own when people can start using smart. >> reporter: we're here on the train. we just left the marin civic center headed north. you can see just about every seat on this train is actually filled right now. i bet after the next stop it's going to be standing room only. these trains have been packed all day long. as far as when this service will open and begin for real i'm told by smart train they are

they're in the final testing phase of a new safety feature to be standard on all passenger trains some day called positive train control. >> it's designed sto stop the train in the event it goes over speed and for whatever reason our engineer cannot, it will bring the train safely to a stop. >> reporter: that was delayed over diesel engine issues. >> starting saturday it will cost medium more to ride san francisco muni. fare increase take place july 1st. four adults will soon cost 2.75 for a ride. children and seniors will see a fair hike. muni is increasing the cost of monthly passes by 2 to $3 depending on the type of pass you by. transit fares are going up

anywhere from 5 to 15 cents for local rides. the cash fare will be 2.25. the agency will charge people who pay with clipper cards less. transbay fares are going up. sop are the cost for monthly passes. the white house is defending president trump's morning tweets attacking cable news host. even some republicans are criticizing the president for going too far. >> the main target of president trump's early morning tweets msnbc host. his first tweet attacks her intelligence calling her low i.q. crazy mika. the second attacked her looks. he said she was bleeding badly from facelift. many are condemning his words. >> tweets like this are inconsistent with the greatness of the country and the office.

happening. walgreens agreed to buy rite aid stores essentially cutting them in half. a big milestone for uber today. the san francisco base ride share company athounsed its rea -- announced its reeached its 5 billionth ride. the fourth of july came early to the skies over the eastern seaboard this morning. this nasa rocket launched at the space agency's flight facility in virginia. the goal of the mission is to study auroras by releasing vapor tracers in the upper atmosphere. take a look at the result. a spectacular light show. artificial clouds in all kinds of colors.

rosa. napa, 83. highs in the upper 80s to about 90 degrees. this is the accuweather seven-day forecast. going into the weekend that proceeds fourth of july we'll have bright sunny days with high 60 or just above 60 at the coast to near 90 inland. it will be a slight dip in temperatures by a couple degrees. on tuesday, fourth of july look for sunny skies over the bay and inland maybe a little bit of lingering fog at the coast. we'll range from low 60s at the coast. no extreme conditions there. that pattern will hold all the way through most of next week. >> pretty nice headed into july. warriors fans are getting up close and personal with the championship trophy.

happening now your chance to get up close and personal with the warriors championship trophy. abc 7 news was there as people lined up outside dunk contest for the chance to take a picture with the trophy. the trophy is traveling around the bay area through sunday. it will be a dunk contest in hillsdale shopping center until 9:00 tonight. on saturday it goes to the team store in walnut creek. we have all this information on our abc 7 mobile app. the new number on nba merchandise sales show warriors gear is most sought after than any team. kevin durant ranked number three.

they made the rankings based on sales from april through june. the warriors won the title. according to the wall street journal he's shopping around a variety show called evenings with andrew. he's working with a buzz speed executive to try to make it happen. we would with filming the show in the off season. today marks the anniversary of one of the most revolutionary products of the 21st en, the iphone. it won't on sale in 2007. critics said people wouldn't want a phone that had a camera in it or one that you could listen to music on it. they are everywhere. >> we expect add successful product. we expected millions of people to use them.

abc 7 is above a brush fire burning in a field very close to homes as you see there in north san jose. firefighters are on scene now at maybury road and north capitol avenue. these flames broke out around 4:00. some residents in the area actually tried to put the fire out themselves with hoses. it's not advised to approach the flames. there are people in parking lot there. they are trying to move some of that equipment away from the fire and it appears that a school is nearby as well.

you can see or at least a school bus yard. you can see the parking lot where they are trying to move things and you can see the houses and hopefully that fire is getting pretty much contained at this point. i don't see any active flames but they are still working on the hot spots. wooep ke we'll keep an eye on this and keep you posted. three of them are burning downhill. the fourth is burning uphill. combine 28 acres are on fire. a roadblock is set up along grant road to keep people out of the area. airplanes are dropping fire retar dent on the flames. no homes are threatened now. the back route to yosemit national park is open. cal trans tweeted this out. it took months to clear this winter snow and ice off of the

in chaos at airports. after months of legal battles the supreme court ruled this week to partially reinstate the ban. if someone from a restricted country wants a visa they have to prove a bono fide relationship to someone in the u.s. the administration defines that as a parent, spouse, child, son or daughter-in-law or siblings. >> it's frustrating to know that the federal government can just redefine the concept of family. >> reporter: she plans to get married this fall but now worries whether her family in syria will be allowed to come to her wedding. >> i was raised by my grandparents. the idea i woupldn't be able to have them at any wedding the heartbreaking. >> reporter: this travel ban will help protect americans from terrorists by using extreme v vetting calling it a significant win for our national security. those travelers still trying to make their way here to jfk and to airports across the country.

senate republican leaders are scrambling to rewrite t health care bill to bring on more republican supporters. they still have their decision to delay the vote this week is given protesters more time to mobilize their opposition. >> reporter: the battle lines have been drawn. >> we stopped them yesterday. we're going to stop them when they come back in july. >> reporter: protesters uniting fighting republican plans to repeal and replace obamacare.

at least nine republicans are still opposed to the bill. the trump administration insists that they will prevail. >> for this summer is out, president trump's going to work with this congress and we're going to keep a promise to the american people and we're going to repeal and replace obamacare. >> reporter: approval for the republican plan is low. just 27% according to fox news. the number even lower in three new polls not garnering support beyond 17%. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell warned fellow republicans if they can't come together on repeal and replace they will be forced to negotiate with the democrats foix health care. >> i said i would love to help you on health care. i cannot go down the repeal process. can you work with us and be the mr. fix it president and repair

it. abc news, washington. a light fixture sold at a popular home improvement store has been recalled because of a hazard for injuries. >> michael finney joins us now. >> the light fixtures were sold by home depot but made by design solutions international. they received 108 complaints from people who say they can detach and fall. they have three four glass color chrome shades. there's one report of lacerations to the head and a burn to the arm. another report of lacerations to the leg. customer should remail the company for a replacement light shade and instructions.

united will publish a chart giving the number of miles needed for each type of ticket. it's friday afternoon on a hot summer day at the office. are you focused on your work? you'll be thinking about this tomorrow. chances are you and your co-workers are thinking about anything but work. many employers are giving in to the reality. 42% of those surveyed said they are letting workers out early for the weekend this year. a trend called summer fridays. researchers say it's a perk that doesn't cost much. workers love it. leaving early prevents burn out and raising moral. all that daydreaming and clock watching kills productivity any way. what time is it any way?
