joe" are firing back this morning after president trump launched a personal attack against them on twitter. >> the president called mika brzezinski "low iq, crazy mika," and her co-host, joe scarborough, "psycho joe." the string of insults came after brazinski criticized the president on her show. this morning, she and her co-host hit back hard. >> i will insult him over the muslim ban or say that he's a racist. i'll say he's a racist with what he said about david duke. all of these things through the year. and for some reason, he always goes after mika. >> mm-hmm. >> and it's always personal with mika. he attacks women because he fears women. >> he has a fixation. >> brazinski and scarborough were supposed to be on vacation today. they postponed that to go on the air and respond to the president this morning. they also wrote an opinion piece. do you see the title there? "donald trump is not well." the article says "our concerns about his unmoored behavior go far beyond the personal.

america's leaders and allies are asking themselves yet again whether this man is fit to be president." this morning, the president's counselor, kellyanne conway, came to the president's defense on "good morning america." >> do you endorse what the president sent out in those tweets? >> i endorse the president's right to fight back when he is being mercilessly attacked and when the airwaves are filled with raw sewage about him and his fitness for office. >> conway continues to say the media should focus on all the good the president is doing as well as the policies he's working on. >> okay, and the president has stayed silent for most of the morning until just this last commercial break. he tweeted out this response, saying "watched low-rated "morning joe" for the first time in a long time. fake news." and then "he called me to stop a national enquirer article. i said no. bad show." okay, and in other news relating to the president, but not this particular tweet scandal, hawaii has filed a federal court challenge to the president's latest travel ban as

it rolls out for its first full day today. the state is asking a federal judge to clarify the scope of the ban and who it actually applies to. the ban states people traveling to the u.s. from six mostly muslim countries now have to prove a "bona fide relationship to someone in the u.s.," but that doesn't include some relationships like a granddaughter and a grandmother, for example. so, on monday, the supreme court allowed parts of that travel ban to go into effect. immigration attorneys plan to be on standby again today at airports across the country, including here at sfo to help international travelers with any issues. >> and speaking of traveling, happening right now, the fourth of july weekend is upon us. a lot of people happy about that. and despite the holiday actually falling on a tuesday, it is going to be historic. >> aaa is predicting this will be the most traveled independence day weekend we have ever seen. abc7 news reporter tiffany wilson standing by with a peek of travel times. hi, tiffany. >> reporter: hey, there, reggie and jessica. yes, red, white and blue means

skies, roads and rails for millions of americans. about 44.2 million people are expected to travel at least 50 miles away from their homes, and that is 3% more than last year. now, the vast majority of those people are expected to drive. aaa credits the bump in holiday travelers to a couple of things. there's cheaper gas, stronger employment, and higher consumer confidence than one year ago. >> it's a good year for me, so i would imagine that -- economically -- so i would imagine for the rest of the folks in the bay area, those folks are probably ready to go out and play. >> reporter: the folks at popular traffic app waze analyzed the busiest times on the roads. the data they looked at is from the greater boston region, but it should hold true here in the bay area as well. the worst times to travel are today from 2:00 until 4:00, tomorrow, sunday and monday, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. on tuesday, the fourth of july. so, the best thing to do if you plan on being out on the roads during those peak travel times,

stay safe and enjoy the ride. live in castro valley, tiffany wilson, abc7 news. >> thank you, tiffany. new developments this morning regarding a sexual harassment claim filed against a former commander at the san francisco fire department. the city has now agreed to pay $375,000 to settle that claim. sf fire department analyst jessica kennedy charged that she was sexually harassed by former assistant deputy chief kenneth lombardi after she was hired four years ago. details of the alleged harassment have not been released. lombardi resigned in october. happening today, planned parenthood is closing three clinics in the bay area. the locations are in richmond, vacaville, and pittsburg. the closures are largely due to low reimbursement rates in california for providers that serve medical patients. today's closures will leave 20 planned parenthood clinics in its northern california district. fire officials in san jose investigating four fires on mt. hamilton yesterday.

in total, 85 acres burned. it took firefighters about two hours to bring those flames under control. you can see the location of the fire zone along mt. hamilton road near grant lake. that area had burned -- the area that burned had been targeted by fire crews to be used for a controlled burn later this summer to help reduce fire danger. and fast-acting neighbors in san jose pitched in to save homes from a five-acre fire. flames were coming close to a neighborhood just off north capital avenue, a few blocks from mayberry road. neighbors didn't wait for firefighters. instead, they jumped into action. >> we all grabbed hoses for our neighbors who weren't home. we called them to tell them to come home, and we all grabbed each other's hoses. i just hoped that nobody's home would burn and that the wind kept shifting, so you never knew where it was going. >> i want those people as my neighbors. they're looking out. that's great. the fire department did not evacuate any homes but gave the wildlife center of silicon valley a mandatory order. animals, including birds, pos m possu

possums, and ducklings were boxed up and taken away. the san jose fire department says the flames didn't damage any structures or homes. former president barack obama is in indonesia this morning. this is new video that's just coming into our live desk. look at this. it shows him being greeted by indonesia's president in jakarta. this is the last stop for obama and his family on a ten-day vacation to the country. prior to arriving in jakarta, the obamas spent time in bali. obama very popular in indonesia, many seeing him as a symbol of hope and religious tolerance. a warning for parents this morning. those popular fidget spinner toys could have a hidden danger. >> an unexpected surprise in the north bay. the reason a hot air balloon had to make a sudden landing in a santa rosa neighborhood. it is 6:07. here's a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza, as it looks like some people do have to go to work today. to work today. all right, you can get a

6:15 now. the u.s. senate will now consider two immigration laws, one named after kate steinle, a woman murdered in san francisco nearly two years ago. the house passed kate's law yesterday, which would enhance penalties for convicted and deported criminals who re-enter the country illegally. the man who confessed to killing steinle was a mexican national convicted of seven felonies. he had been deported five times. president trump argues the law makes our country safer. again, critics say it's just going to do the opposite. the other bill would withhold certain federal funds from sanctuary cities like san francisco. that bill passed the house as well. new this morning, san francisco police warning the public about a consumer scam with callers posing as police officers. authorities say callers claim

they have a warrant for the resident's arrest, and then they demand payment in gift cards in order to avoid arrest. investigators say the scammers alter the caller i.d. to make it appear the call is coming from the sfpd nonemergency number. authorities say they would never call to demand payment and threaten to arrest you. if you receive one of those calls, you're asked to immediately hang up and then call 311 to file a harassing phone report. we have a health alert from the cdc. officials say one test may not be enough if you get a tick bite. rough ly 300,000 people are diagnosed with lyme disease every year, with the number on the rise. right now, tests don't always detect the disease in the early stage. in the first three weeks of infection, the test only detects lyme disease 29% to 40% of the time. >> i was so weak, i couldn't walk, i couldn't chew my food, i couldn't dress myself some of the time, i couldn't get off the couch and walk from one room to the other.

new this morning, america's fertility rate has fallen to the lowest ever. new numbers from the centers for disease control show just 62 births per en the ages of 15 and 44 last year. that is down 1% from 2015. cdc officials say it's because women are waiting later and later to have children, so not as young as we once used to see. and officials say if the decline continues, we could actually face an economic crisis and there won't be enough young people to replace older people leaving the work force. the consumer product safety commission is looking into reports that fidget spinners are bursting into flames. these toys have become extremely popular over the last few months. they have caught fire because l.e.d. lights hook up to bluetooth to play music. reports say they're catching fire while recharging, simila to some hoverboards in late

news." front page. it shows an eagle, head bowed, and the headline "humiliation." on a separate note, one of the year's busiest travel days, and protesters are expected back at sfo this morning to demonstrate against the president's revised travel ban. that ban has not even been in effect for a full day. already, though, there is a lawsuit filed against it. abc7 news reporter janine de la vega is live at sfo this morning. janine? >> reporter: jessica, under the new guidelines, you need to have a bona fide relationship with someone from the u.s. in order to enter. well, hawaii's attorney general just filed an emergency motion asking for clarification. there have been protests here at sfo in the international terminal for people rallying against president trump's travel ban, and it prohibits people from libya, iran, somalia, sudan, syria, and yemen from entering the u.s. unless they meet certain criteria. those protesters are vowing to

come back to the airport again today. under the new guidelines, visa applicants who have close family members in the u.s., such as a parent or a child, will be allowed to come, but other relatives like grandparents and cousins are excluded. >> all week we've been hearing from people who have relatives that are considering travel, from community groups that are wondering what this means for people who come from the same country as them, and so on. and so, the confusion has been ongoing. >> reporter: late yesterday, the trump administration made a change to the policy, saying fiances will now be considered close family members and allowed to travel to the u.s. lawyers and civil rights activists have been at sfo, offering help to anyone with questions or is encountering trouble at the airport. the federal judge is not expected to respond to the challenge in hawaii until next week. reporting live at sfo, janine de la vega, abc7 news. >> janine, thank you. california secretary of state alex padilla is now refusing to turn over voter data

to an election commission created by president trump. the panel wants all 50 states to hand over the names, addresses, and political parties of their registered voters. that is 19.4 million people in california alone. the president said he wants the commission to determine how widespread voter fraud is in the u.s. but padilla says that he will not provide any sensitive voter information to a commission that he believes already inaccurately passed judgment that millions of californians voted illegally. last november, president trump tweeted california was one of several states where "serious voter fraud" took place, but no official at the state or local level has found any evidence to back up the president's assertion. developing news. it appears another investigation is under way involving oakland police and sexual misconduct. sources tell "the east bay express," an officer is accused of having sex with a civilian in the basement of police headquarters. and during that investigation,

officers found $100,000 of cocaine, heroin, and marijuana stashed in a basement locker. that locker has been traced to a lieutenant in internal affairs who used the drugs for a training exercise 12 years ago. so, this is all unfolding as opd deals with fallout from the ongoing sex scandal involving a teenage prostitute formerly known as celeste gaup, and multiple officers. happening today, search parties will be meeting in san mateo county. they are looking for a missing 22-year-old man. yesterday a woman found a aaa card in good condition, and it belongs to richard moss at montero state beach. he's been missing since may 25th. we have a photo on the screen there. he left his montara home -- i should say, he left his home, and now today's search at montero state beach begins at 10:00 a.m. the sheriff's office will also

fly search planes overhead. new details of a carjacking in castro valley, so scary. a father and a daughter had to jump out of a moving car to get out. it started on redwood road late wednesday night when a 23-year-old man commandeered an suv with a father and his 14-year-old daughter inside. so, the father gets out of the car, and just as the car begins to speed away, his daughter has to jump out, too. the driver didn't know the suv was equipped with onstar. alameda county sheriffs tracked it to a gas station in fremont and williams is now charged with kidnapping, carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon, held in santa rita jail with no bail. a b.a.r.t. passenger is recovering this morning after getting attacked and robbed on a dublin-bound train. the attack happened wednesday night on the same day that b.a.r.t. bart announced it finished replacing decoy cameras with real ones. they are reviewing footage that shows four suspects attacking the person and taking their cell
