a gas station cashier killed, and the suspect shot by police but still not in custody. thanks for joining today. i'm reggie aqui. kristein sze is off. abc 7 tiffany wilson has the details. >> reporter: the value rowe gas station is back open after a cashier was gunned down by a robber this. video shows the investigation last night. the store manager says around 8:30 a man walked in, robbed the store and then shot and killed the cashier. >> this very, very sad news.

>> reporter: the owner has owned the liquor store across the street for 20 years and feels for his neighbor. >> they work hard day and night, and people came here to robbery some couple of dollars, a couple of something. people died. >> reporter: antioch police officer who happened to be at the nearby 7-eleven heard the shooting. the officer ran outside the voens store and shot the suspect. the valero store manager says the suspect was wounded and left a trail of blood down 18th avenue. police searched for the suspect but so far he's not been found. >> very, very >> reporter: victim has not been identified but he worked there for five years and we spoke to some of the antioch police officers who knew him. in antioch, tiffany wilson, nbc 7 news. >> police in san jose are looking for the person who shot and killed a woman near san jose state. police were called to a home on south tenth street just after

5:00 last night. they got reports of loud bangs inside. the woman was found with at least one gunshot wound and pronounced dead. investigators have not released any details about a possible motive. turning now to our fourth of july. the city of san francisco is probing for large crowds along the waterfront tonight. crews worked throughout the day to guarantee a sky show that will hopefully dazzle thousands of people who come out for the event. 10,000 fireworks shells are in place on several barges off pier 50 for one of the biggest spectacles on the west coast. >> lots of colors, exciting effects. if they come to the waterfront area, pier 39 or aquatic park there's a sound track that goes along with it so you can get the patriotic feeling with the sound track as well as wonderful colors in the sky. >> you plan to head down to the city you're urged to use public trpgsz. b.a.r.t. is running on a sunday

schedule. muni has extra service. the show starts at 1 pock and is expected to last at 25 minutes. >> will you actually be able to see the fireworks show, or will you be enveloped in clouds and fog? mike nicco is here with an answer. >> reporter: colorful clouds aren't enough for you? >> not the best. >> i understand. it's a good question because remember what i posed yesterday. if you're going to be out and about yesterday evening, watch where the clouds are and watch what time they get in. foyer, forecast, temperatures mid-50s to mid-60s. wins up to 20 miles per hour around the san pablo area. santa cruz, you're going to see a little bit of sunshine. let me give you the planner, and then i'll give you specific timetable for the clouds coming up in the big weather. plan for temperatures mainly in the mid to upper 50s at the coast from 3:00 to 11:00. notice at 76 at 3:00 around the bay and down to 60 by the time we get to 9:00. 87 inland and nearly 20 to 25

degrees cooler and inland at 64. you'll be surprised some of the areas where you'll be able to see the fireworks. reggie? >> i see all the tents out thereto in santa cruz. right now they are not meeting it. there's no sun to protect themselves from. we'll see you in a few minutes. happening right now, paitetic parades across the bay area and tens of thousand of people taking part in the that fourth of july tradition. matt keller is live for us in morgan hill. hey, man. >> hi, reggie. i may be standing in one of the most patriotic places not only in the bay area but all across the country. hi, good morning, morgan hill. happy fourth of july. they are here for the big parade that every year brings out thousands and thousands of people. in fact, they estimate there's 50,000 spectators here for this year's parade, and this year's parade theme is america's national park, 100 years and counting. they are honoring morgan hills and santa clara county fire personnel as well as firefighters across the country.

they have a special display here. they have martial artists are dragon being carried in the parade. the parade is a hot ticket. some spectators left their chairs along the route since may. big chairs, little the mile-plus route. >> if you don't put your chair out. >> what do you think of coming to your parade with the grandson? >> with you? >> i think it's pretty good. it's special. >> it's a dragon. >> this is one of the oldest fourth of july traditions in california. started all the way back here in 1876. how about that. about 2,500 participants are in the parade. they got nine bands, 40 horses and 24 floats and all kinds of other groups marching, and that includes that lie cron and

new this morning, eat vent hot dogs and a lot of people who don't like looking at people force feeding. joey "jaws" chestnut defends his title as nathan's famous hot dog eating contest in coney island. >> with 72 nathan's famous hot dogs and buns, a new world record, champion of the world, joey chestnut! >> the 33-year-old champion devoured 72 hot dogs in ten minutes. this is the part that i cannot watch so i'll be looking away from the screen. he's bringing home the mustard belt for the tenth time. to stuff in that much meat and buns, they train their stomachs to expand two to three times their normal size. lovely. the women's champ nikki soto is the big winner after scarfing down 41 hot dogs.

ah. a look at the fourth of july by the numbers. according to the national retail federation, more than 44% of people are going to watch a fireworks display. 162 million expected to attend a cookout or picnic, and more than 7.1 billion will be spend just on all that food we're eating. wallet hub ranked san francisco as the second best city in the country to celebrate the fourth of july. that's pretty good. it looked at things like average beer and wine pr fireworks show july weather forecast. what was number one? interesting. atlanta. for the last 42 years, the town of gatlinburg, tennessee, has held the first independence parade in the nation. ♪ >> what they mean by that is they start the parade at 12:01 a.m. you can see it's dark outside, and the streets are packed. despite the strange hour to start a parade. this is interesting because it's the first time that they have had a big event in town since the devastating wildfires that

four people without a home right now after a fire in danville. this happened overnight. fire officials telling us the fire started around 12:20 this morning on shelly place near glen road. everyone, including two family pets, got out in time. investigators are searching for a cause. they say they don't think fireworks are to blame. a seattle man is accused of killing his wife in an uber. the victim graduateded from st. mary's. police say cameron and jennifer esperia got into the car early spund morning and started driving. the driver heard a boom and thought a tire had burst but then realized the woman had been shot. she was sitting in the passenger seat and the husband was driving behind the driver. the husband told the driver to pull over and got out. he was later found near the scene. north korea is saying it successfully tested its first intercontinental ballistic missile, and this one could potentially reach u.s. soil.

president trump and other world leaders are now responding to yet another escalation and tensions. >> reporter: as americans are celebrating the fourth of july, new images out of north korea show kim jong-un celebrating his latest successful missile launch, one the communist regime claims could reach the u.s. >> this is the first time if the analysis is correct that we're seeing a north korean weapon than can hit the united states, not the mainland but alaska is very much part of the united states and this is a very worrying development. >> reporter: those images coming just hours after representative for china said at the u.n. that his country wands to de-escalate the rising tensions. >> the tension is high. sooner or later it will get out of control, and the consequences would be disastrous. >> reporter: the russia and chinese foreign ministries released a joint statement in response to the launch proposing that pyongyang declare a moratorium on missile launches while south korea and the united states hold off on long-standing

military exercises. president trump said does this guy have anything better to do with his life? suggesting that china could end this nonsense once and for all and that tweet starkly different from two weeks ago when the president tweeted china's effort have not worked out. for months president trump has been trying to get china, north korea's most important ally to intervene, going back and forth on how helpful the country might be. >> china has left us on our own. nobody is going to solve this except the united states and the problem is with this launch it's no longer just a regional problem >> reporter: north korean regime claims the latest launch is the 11th so for this year, and this comes on the heels of the death of 22-year-old american college student otto warmbier after 17 months in captivity there. new jersey's budget stalemate is now over just in time for the holiday, but it could be a while before people forget these images of their governor chris christie. his response to the photos of him on a beach that he ordered

if you have pets in your house, it might be a good time now to plan how you're going to deal with them if they freak out from fireworks. animal shelters across the bay area are bracing for a number of lost pets to show up after they have been scared off by the noise. fireworks sounds a whole lot like bombs or other scary things to pets. humane society of silicon valley has some tips. >> actually for cats or smaller dogs, a bathroom is a really safe place because they can't do too much damage and it tends to be a little bit quieter than the

becoming sunny except for the coast. not too hot. that's the good news. clouds and fog return this evening and then we'll have some summer heat. i mean, 990s coming on at us later in the weekend. 71 in san jose to 65 and still a few low clouds hanging around santa rosa. like to be on the water. we saw a bunch of kayakers go by on the explortorium camera. once they keep heading north from 1:00 to 11:00 pretty choppy winds. the all-important cloud forecast. here we are at 5:00 in the evening and you can see wall-to-wall clouds up and down the coast. a little bit of sunshine here and there. now as we head towards 9:00, you can see it starting to creep in some of our coastal valleys to places like petaluma. then here as the richmond-san rafael bridge this. area socked in all the way back to the coast. pier 50. probably see more clouds as we get towards the end of the

fireworks, and that's one of the better places to go until you get into the south bay and the east bay where it will be totally clear. let's take a look at your temperatures. 76 in milipitas and 80 in san jose to 83 in morgan hill. a little bit of sunshine. 770 in santa cruz. 68 military and 72 to 76 and for everybody else on the peninsula. cloud cover along the coast. barely 60 in some spots and 58 in others and 46 in downtown san francisco. up in in the north bay, 75 in san rafael to 82 at santa rosa. here's a look at your marin county fireworks today. about 59 degrees with increasing clouds. over along the east bay shore. 70 to 76 degrees. fireworks were last night and it's a day game. sox and a's. 68. 1:05 first pitch. into the east bay, temperatures around 83 to 88 degrees, and after 6:00 don't even try getting to the alameda county fair. they will not let you in, and if you leave they will not let you back. 64 degrees when the fireworks go off. a look at my accuweather seven-day forecast.

maybe a slight bit of cooling. look at the 90s jump into the forecast thursday, friday, saturday and sunday inland and mid-70s to near 80 around the bay and upper 0s to low 60s at the coast, so pier 50 good and the closer you get to the golden gate bridge. >> all right. we have been warned, so now we know i'll be looking at the colorful clouds. thank you, mike >> you bet. new jersey state-run beaches and parks are back open after the budget stalemate that led to your closure ended last night. social media continues to be on fire regarding the pictures of governor chris christie on one of those beaches while it was closed to everybody else. here's abc news reporter elizabeth hur. >> memes of lounging governor chris christie featured iconic scenes from the oval office to "forrest gump" sparked the trending #beachgate after these pictures captured governor christie and his family on the

beach after he ordered a government shutdown. the governor even had this exchange at a news conference. >> you got some sun. >> i didn't get any sun today. >> the governor's spokesperson later issued this clarification saying christie did not get any sun because he had a baseball cap on. not everyone bought that story. >> it was like you can go to the beach and regular people can't. >> i mean, jesus christ, he's going to go out with a bang now. >> he's now america's least popular governor with one poll showing his approval rating at just 15%, but he remains defiant even with some locals flying this banner over the jersey shore. >> now if they had flown that plane over that beach and i was sitting next to a 25-year-old blond in that beach chair next to me, that's a story. in the end the fact that this is resolved and the changes that are made is what people will remember, not some of the, you know, bs kind of gotcha

journalism. >> reporter: governor kristie says this is a media-driven scandal adding that the beach house where he stayed, this, is a state-owned property, and he has the right to be there whenever he wants to be there. elizabeth hur, abc news, new york. tiger woods is focusing on his health. the famed golfer has tweeted he's completed a private intensive program. last month woods said he was getting help to manage his medications for back pain and a sleep disorder. woods was arrested in may for driving under the influence. he blamed it on prescription drugs after undergoing another back surgery. we all have our favorite foods, right, but one little bat just goes bananas for an afternoon snack. no more hot dog eating contest.
