celebrating the birth of a nation with a bang on this fourth of july but not all the celebrations are legal. good evening, happy fourth of july. >> dazzling displays across the bay area marked this fourth of july. we have crews all over the bay area with the best of tonight's celebrations. >> let's start live at san francisco's pier 39. the fog interfered with the fireworks but a lot of people had fun anyway. >> exactly, dan. they came for a show but it was mostly a foggy one. the city and county put it on for them. some people cheered. others left before it ended.

>> reporter: san francisco's firework show in a mostly foggy sky over the bay. some felt cheated. >> when we saw the first one shoot off it's not exciting. >> two hours of traffic and three hours for parking and the fireworks are cut off from the fog. >> but everyone came for the fun time. >> reporter: from pets, elvis and a visitor from down under. >> driving into this port, magic. we have been waiting for some time. >> reporter: john williams arrived by cruise ship. >> i think the cruise ship planned to be here for your big day. >> reporter: the fourth of july means big business for bay area artists. >> this is our busiest day of the year. so we're just going nonstop. but it's going to be wild and crazy. we have the colored fog show tonight. >> reporter: for some the weather is a nice change. >> we love it out here.

the weather is perfect and the views are marvelous. >> reporter: police beefed up presence, keeping things quiet and peaceful. the crowd packed the pier to hear beats from bay area band tainted love. >> it's a great pride. >> reporter: they came prepared and braved the fog. while it wasn't the show they expected the attractions made up for it. >> a great city to tour and it's beautiful out here. it's worth it. >> as for any criminal activity i spoke with a police officer here who says there have been a number of fights but other than that it has been quiet. live in san francisco from pier 39, abc 7 news. >> thanks so much. traffic backed up on the east bay bridge tonight as so many people tried to get to treasure island to watch the fireworks. the chp says the onramps to treasure island had to be closed to anyone who didn't live there.

in the east bay, crowds came out in force. so many people crowded parks the cars had to be turned away from three areas. the alameda county fair closed the gates at 6:00 p.m. to control the size of the crowd. lisa amin gulezian has more. >> reporter: last fourth of july there were 50,000 people here and this year about 35,000 to 40,000 people made it in which they say is a good thing. ♪ the main event everyone has been waiting for. the alameda county fair's fourth of july fireworks extravaganza is a show everyone wanted to see. >> i like it. >> reporter: but fair organizers say thousands missed out because at 6:00 the fair gates closed. >> that sucks.

>> reporter: it was a planned move to cut down on crowd congestion which in turn impacts lines for food and rides, traffic leaving the fair and the experience. >> on the way out they have an easy out. we know everyone has to get to work tomorrow. >> crowd control was good. keep everybody safe. >> i'm glad we made it and my daughter will see the fireworks for the first time. >> reporter: but for those stuck? gridlock this fair experience has been far from pleasant. >> i think it's ridiculous. the park is big enough for everyone. we can't help it's traffic. i mean, how is that my problem? >> i think that's so lame. the firework aren't until later tonight. >> reporter: then those who paid for tickets online but weren't allowed in. you can always use the tickets on a different day just not on the fourth of july. in pleasanton, lisa amin gulezian, abc 7 news.

at least ten people were arrested at the fairgrounds because of fighting. two were led away in handcuffs. no one was hurt. sheriff deputies were keeping an eye on the crowds at the fair. in the south bay a feast for the eyes and ears during a fourth of july firework spectacular. katie marzullo is live at the shoreline amphitheater tonight. >> reporter: some 14,000 people here tonight. the crowd decked out in their best red, white, and blue, patriotic to the core. the sky above shoreline amphitheater lit up with dazzling fireworks the finale to a fourth of july celebration that was so much more than

fireworks on our website. and on the abc 7 news app. we have highlights of fourth of july events from all across the bay area. happening now, rogue fireworks shows are exploding over san francisco's north beach neighborhood about a half hour before the official show near pier 39. to the oakland hills and more illegal shows. our viewers tweeted this video showing dozens of displays at the same time. and our tower cameras captured a similar scene in san jose. fireworks are illegal in san jose, oakland and san francisco. thousands of illegal fireworks in los angeles tonight. many people said it sounded like a war zone outside their homes. anyone caught using illegal fireworks can be fined up to $1,000. residents were urged to call

police. vallejo firefighters knocked down a fire that was caused by fireworks tonight. just after 9:30 firefighters had to deal with high grass and dry conditions as they quickly doused the flames. people counting on watching the fireworks from the "uss hornet" in alameda had to make other plans tonight. a power outage cancelled the fourth of july event on that ship tonight. this is video of that ship which is now a museum. power was restored just after 6:00 this evening. anyone with tickets can get a rain check. a gas station cashier killed in a robbery in antioch often worked 12 hours a day, seven days a week to help his family. his wife and three children shared video of their last celebration together on father's day.

house. the rain cleared up as the president addressed the gathering and told the crowd he would always have your back. more than 50,000 people lined the streets for one of the oldest fourth of july traditions in california, abc 7 news was in morgan hill for the fourth of july parade there. it started back in 1876. the event is so popular, spectators have been leaving chairs to secure a spot along the route since mayowa. >> what do you think about coming to the parade with your grandson? >> with you? i think it's pretty good. it's special. >> about 2500 participants are in the parade. nine bands, 40 horses, 24 floats and all kinds of other groups marching. one of the oldest fourth of july parades in california is in solano county. we were in vallejo.

lot of afternoon sunshine away from the coast and comfortable temperatures and a summer like pattern continues tonight. we are showing you we have the coastal clouds spilling in and around the bay. that is going to be the prominent weather feature. outside a live look from santa cruz right now. still have folks on the board walk even at this late hour. some soaking in the final minutes of the holiday. but for a lot of us it's back to reality tomorrow as many head back to work for a shortened workweek. your planner on wednesday, 6:00 in the morning, mainly gray skies to start. could have coastal drizzle out there. by 9:00 we expect peeks of sunshine and by noon more in the way of sunshine away from the coast. warming inland into the 70s and approaching 68, 69 degrees by lunchtime. let us show you the lunchtime outside. this is what many morning commuters will encounter close

north carolina police officers took a moment to cool down at a neighborhood fourth of july celebration tuesday. a group of residents built this huge slip and slide for kids and adults to enjoy. neighbors called police to complain about it blocking the portion of road. when the police arrived they joined in the fun. on to sports.
