and the monterey bay. you can volunteer, as well, if you would like to come and pick up other people's trash. matt keller, abc7 news. >> thank you. city crews and neighbors in santa cruz cleaning up debris. take a look. showing what dozens of different fireworks displays looks like happening at the same time last night. illegal fireworks may be to blame for a small grass fire in the oakland hills. it happened on redwood road near old redwood road just after 11:00 last night. quick action by firefighters managed to keep the flames from spreading. an acre burnled in all. the fire department said it's a strong possibility the fire was started by illegal fireworks but still under investigation. our tower cameras captured illegal fireworks going off in san jose. this year the city asked the community to get the word out that all fireworks are illegal there. neighbors putting up signs provided freebie the city to spread the message.

apparently not everybody cared. and neighbors also reported seeing and hearing illegal fireworks shot off in petaluma last night. it looks like it was popular there, too. a fireworks mishap caused a man to suffer what police are describing as horrific injuries. it happened along port sailwood drive in thornton avenue. police told abc7 news the man lighting a mortar type of firework inside a tube and went off before he had a chance to get away. the man is being treated. hundreds of thousands of people enjoyed organized firework shows that lit up the skies across the bay area. in san francisco, this is what it looked like or perhaps what it sounded like because as you can see, unless you were really concentrating on the low level fireworks, a lot of it

night. in mountain view, abc7 news. >> gorgeous. abc7 was a proud sponsor of the fourth of july fireworks spectacular with san francisco symphony. see highlights and other festivities on abc7news.com. a new york city police officer has died after being shot in what officials say was an unprovoked attack. officials say the 48-year-old familia officer was shot overnight in the bronx. other officers encountered the suspect running from the scene one block away. investigators say that man pulled a gun. the officers opened fire and they killed the suspect. another person was hit by a bullet. that person will survive. we are keeping the latest on this throughout the morning an we'll let you know as soon as we have more information. also tracking this story. new developments in the deadly hit and run in concord that killed two young boys. their 3-month-old brother who survived has had a setback.

a family spokesperson said the infant is in critical condition in oakland after several seizures. the wreck on highway 4 killed the child's two brothers on friday night and their mom is recovering from injuries. the suspect was arrested after going to the hospital to be treated for his own injuries. he's now charged with vehicular homicide. >> really pulling for that child. okay. firefighters stopped flames from reaching homes after a wildfire broke out east of los angeles. looking at video of a helicopter dropping fire on the fire. our sister station in l.a. report it is flames have burned about two acres. crews have the fire about 60% contained. nobody has been asked to leave the homes. investigators haven't said what sparked last night's fire. another wildfire burning northeast of reno, nevada. it's threatening buildings and homes. officials telling people to evacuate seeing flames from the house. the fire broke out just after 6:00 last night and firefighters report it's burned 2,000 acres

so far. they say it could have grown more if the winds were stronger. the fire right now at 10% containment. happening today, san francisco's police commission set to vote on clarifying how officers comply with the city's sanction ware policy following paying out $190,000 to an undocumented immigrant accusing police of informing federal authorities of the immigration status. the revised policies prohibit officers from stopping or questioning someone solely based on the immigration status. it also restricts when they can cooperate with agencies like i.c.e. also happening today, the alamed a city council will hold a hearing expected to discuss amending the agreement for the 68-acre site on the former naval air station. a rise in costs is creating financial problems for the developer. the developer revised the plan which would build 800 housing

along the coast, san francisco, sausalito, richmond. 70s around the bay. most of us 80s inland. look at that. 90 in antioch. look at the low to mid-90s inland tomorrow. and even pushing the upper 90s by friday. that's a pretty healthy warming trend. we'll take a look at the rest of the weekend next. here's alexis. >> you are right. seeing more vehicles on the road today than the last couple of days and i don't think we're going to be quite at full volume and here's an example. san mateo bridge busy and bay bridge. basically empty all day yesterday. today, i'd say we probably will get the metering lights flipped on at some point and seeing an increase of vehicles there. check of mass transit, a ten-minute bart delay at south hayward. and they're saying that's due to unscheduled track maintenance and sounds like a problem on the track there and having to take care of that. i'll stay on top of that one. we have a new multicar crash on westbound 580 in the dublin area

we certainly had our share of illegal fireworks here but take a look at what they were dealing with in los angeles. thousands of illegal fireworks going off all over l.a. this despite the threat of heavy fines this year. many people said it sounded like a war zone outside of their house. anyone caught using illegal fireworks faced fines of $5500 and $1,000. neighbors were urged to call police and report anyone. today president trump heads overseas for a second foreign trip as president. first stop is poland and then germany for the g20 sum milt and the highly anticipated face to face meeting with vladimir putin. abc news reporter has the latest from washington now. ♪ >> reporter: after a fourth of july celebration at the white house -- >> our country is doing really, really well. >> reporter: president trump now heads to poland on the way to germany for the g20 summit and all eyes are on the friday sitdown with russian president vladimir putin. >> i think donald trump is in a

washington. tourists are flocking to san francisco this summer and so are predators. specifically, car burglars. there's been a huge spike in auto burglaries especially in the central district of downtown san francisco. police say there are more than 200 car burglaries in the city every month. the warning signs are everywhere. >> we have two teams that work full-time to counter the auto burglaries and they make arrests every other day. so in the last two months, i can safely say that they have made over 80 arrests in this district alone. >> two suspects were arrested last week after they broke into parked cars. they were captured after a short police chase. oakland police looking far driver that shot a man in a road rage incident. the 23-year-old victim down 58th avenue around 6:40 monday night when police say another driver nearly backed into him.

the two exchanged words. then started fighting. the suspect pulled a gun and shot the 23-year-old in the leg. police found the gunman's car later and he wasn't there. police and crime stopperers offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. a player for the san francisco earthquakes is in critical condition. matheus silva is on loan to reno. the 20-year-old midfielder had to be pulled out of the water when he was swimming yesterday. emergency crews performed resuscitation at the scene. paramedics took him to a nearby hospital in tahoe and air lifted him to reno. spacex postponed a launch again. elon musk announced this on twitter. spacex set for a fourth of july launch and scrubbed it with seconds to go. musk didn't say what went wrong. spacex tried to launch on monday. the automated system aborted the mission ten seconds before takeoff. spacex is seeking approval to

head to the coast, about 62 to 64 degrees. let's bring in alexis with details on the crash. >> we have a new problem in the tri-valley. westbound 580 just before the 680 merge in the dublin area, seeing slowing on the traffic flows. three to four-car crash. it was blocking the far left and right lanes and sounds like it's on the left side now and we have the two left lanes blocked. fire department just got there along with chp and one person possibly injured. they're calling for an ambulance and trying to get tow trucks on the scene, too. already having some trouble spots and things busier than the last couple of days and the zipper trucks out on golden gate bridge this morning for some more room on the southbound side. no issues from the north bay. dealing with quite a bit less fog this morning, too. we'll look at drive times and an update on the bart issue next. >> thank you. residents in fremont are feeling patriotic. neighbors say someone has been

we are back at 4:53. people wanting to watch the fireworks from the "uss hornet" had to make other plans. it was forced to cancel the festivities. this is file video of the "hornet." power was restored just after 6:00. anyone with tickets for the fireworks show can get a raincheck for a visit and of course no fireworks. 4:53 now. the already tough rental market in the bay area is getting even tougher. the average cost of a two-bedroom apartment ranging from $2,000 in oakland to $3,040 in san francisco. that's according to apartment list.com. that's about two to three times higher than the national average of $1,050. that sounds bleak so here's the good news.

minutes. and 280 in the green at just 11. riding bart, some good news. we had track maintenance causing a delay. maintenance wrapped up and resuming normal service. we'll take a look at that crash in the tri-valley coming up in less than ten. >> thank you. authorities in colorado are defending the decision to kill a bear that broke into a home. you can see the video. the bear got into the refrigerator and then crashed the kitchen. also rummaged in bedrooms before busting out through a door. officers tracked the bear down and euthanized it say it was caught on camera last week in a garage in the same area and posed too much of a threat to the people to be let loose. the co-founders of of two tech companies are teaming up to set a new agenda for the democratic party and the name is something else. they're calling it wtf. which usually has a different meaning but in this case they're saying it means win the future. one of their first efforts is to
