72, 76, 72, nothing too outrageous there, but look at noon. 85 inland to 93 at 4:00. to 86 at 7:00. so today's just the beginning of a heat wave that's going to last through the weekend. i'll have the details up next. >> yesterday, we got the bay bridge metering lights turned on at 5:23. i'm guessing we're going to see the same thing today.extremely there monday and tuesday, and we're starting to see a few more folks trickle back into work. right now, looking great. 5:01. you have about 20 minutes before you have to sit through the metering lights. nine minutes to walnut creek to highway 13, and tracy to dublin starting to ramp up as well, at 40 minutes. just one blocking issue so far in san francisco. we'll check on that next. >> b.a.r.t. police are investigating a violent robbery at the coliseum station in oakland. it's the second incident in just three months. according to the chronicle, this latest attack happened friday during the evening commute.

at least ten teenagers grabbed a woman's iphone as they got off the train. now, another passenger chased them down and actually got that phone back. a special b.a.r.t. team intercepted the teens as they tried to escape into the surrounding neighborhood. b.a.r.t. says the suspects were released to parents because witnessed couldn't identify which one had taken the phone. >> happening today, people in the south bay devastated by the coy oat creek flooding are taking action. >> they're filing suits against san jose and the water district. >> natasha, people who live in that neighborhood have lost so much. some of them are still not back in their homes, and they want to be compensated. residents from the rock springs, the williams, and ohlund eer narnds are filing claims against san jose, santa clara county and the water district. they're seeking recovery for their property losses and pain and suffering caused by the floods in february.

thousands of people were evacuated when their neighborhoods overflowed after the heavy rains. a lot of blame has been thrown around about who is responsible for warning residents. there is some relief for them. google partnered with a nonprofit and donated $100,000 to help low-income families in the area that was flooded. they'll help restore homes free of charge. now, at 11:00 this morning, flood victims will be holding a news conference. they're going to be there with their lawyer and explain why they felt filing claims against the city, the county, and the water district here was necessary. reporting live from san jose, abc 7 news. >> thank you. >> three weeks after a deadly shooting at a u.p.s. facility in san francisco, only 15 of the 50 or so workers there are back on the job. a union official representing the workers say they're still fearful about returning. two drivers were killed and two others hurt in the shooting. the gunman, 38-year-old jimmy

lam, killed himself when confronted by responding officers. president trump is in the midst of a busy day in poland. his spoke to reporters after meeting with poland's president. he apologized for the incorrect video. tomorrow, president trump will meet with vladimir putin and reporters asked him about suspected hacking in last year's election. >> so it was russia, and i think it was probably others also. and that's win going on for a long period of time. my big question is why did obama do nothing about it from august all the way to november 8th? he did nothing about it. and it wasn't because he choked. >> the president also said the u.s. is considering some, quote, very severe things in response to north korea's latest test launch of a missile. >> the man accused of killing two children in a hit-and-run in concord has been charged with murder and several other counts. the mother of the victims say she's grateful.

katie spoke with her last night at oakland children's hospital where the woman's 3-month-old son is still being treated. >> i'm so thankful to everyone. >> surrounded by family, aida reyes thanked investigators who levied two murder charges, leaving the scene of a crime and multiple dui counts against the man accused of killing her sons. witnesses report seeing lemuel williams running away from the scene. >> the fact that this person has multiple duis and was still able to get bail. >> wilson was out of custody following a arrest for terrorist threats last week. he threatened nordstrom employees. officers said they found credit card making equipment in his car and a 40 caliber bullet in his pocket. the arrest was made on wilson's birthday, the 24th of june. >> he bailed out on thursday from having been arrested on his birthday and then he then --

then on friday, he murdered my babies. >> the charges can only bring so much comfort to a family planning funerals for 10-year-old lorenzo and 5-year-old vincent. >> today, she had to pick caskets for her kids. >> when conviction time comes, there will be justice for my children. >> reyes says her 3-month-old remains in critical condition but is expected to be okay. attempts to reach wilson's attorney were unsuccessful. his family declined to comment. >> san francisco's police commission reaffirmed its backing of the city's controversial sanctuary laws. some immigration advocates wanted commissioners to do more. last night's revisions came after the board of supervisors updated the city's sanctuary city last year. for the police, that means officers will not cooperate with federal authorities if the goal of any activity is to enforce immigration laws. >> there are certain emergency

be back in court tomorrow. >> a san francisco lawmaker wants to make police body camera videos public in california. the assemblyman has written a bill that would give the public access to everything recorded. police departments have generally considered them potential criminal evidence. they usually don't make the videos public outside of the courtroom. the proposal is expecting its first hearing last week. >> heads up if you do business on craigslist. they will reveal a safe exchange zone. it's believed to be the bay area's first one backed by an entire county. several exchange zones already exist. this is one of those zones in daly city that was set up by the city's police department. fremont also set one up in a police department parking lot. as for the newest one in san mateo, it will be at the maple street correctional center across the street from the police department. now, your accuweather forecast with mike nicco. >> you want the ski or snowboard

this weekend, at squaw you can. for the first time ever, squaw will open past the 4th of july. this is video of people up there during the holiday. squaw will open from 8:30 in the morning until 12:30 in the afternoon saturday. they can keep running on saturdays as long as the conditions allow. that looks like fun. i would love to be able to do that. back here at home, i'll show you the forecast for tahoe in a second. let's get through what's going on here at home. there's still a little fog. in fact, really thick at the golden gate bridge. having a hard time making it to the east. we'll see more sunshine. exercise, it's going to be hot inland. if you want to play on the water today, much cooler. let's talk about temperatures. we're in the upper 50s to low 60s through most of the east bay. inland yarbds, we have mid 60s. we have 59 in san jose. 60 in los gatos. 58 in hayward and also mountain view and vallejo.

54 in san francisco and pacifica at about 51 degrees. so we have 116 in palm springs. look at all the heat. 100s through the central valley. even some thunderstorms possible today in yosemite at 93. tahoe, a slight chance of a thunderstorm and about 83. then we'll just have warm sunshine with temperatures nearly ten degrees warmer than average through the weekend. so slap on the sunscreen and dress for temperatures that will be on the 60s and 70s on the mountain even with that snow. here's a look at what's going to happen back here at home. notice temperature get warmer today and then tomorrow, and then we pull back a little bit saturday. still some 90s around the east bay inland neighborhoods. we'll see if that lasts. details coming up next. here's alexis with the morning commute. any hot spots? >> thought too bad this morning. we do have one blocking issue, but it's just on a transition ramp here between 280 and 101. southbound 280 -- northbound 280 to southbound 101, one lane

here is that fight we have been talking about at a mcdonald's in santa monica. that's a security guard fighting offer several people. those customers were drinking beer in the restaurant and didn't buy food. the security guard told them to leave. that's when the fight broke out. you can see some people even tried to stop it. the fight then spilled out into the parking lot. police showed up, but it's unclear if anyone was arrested. >> wow. we are tracking developing news out of montana. a 5.8 mag tutd earthquake startled many people. it hit just after midnight. the quake was felt for hundreds of miles from the epicenter, including parts of neighbors states and canada. it was followed by a series of

aftershocks. this morning's quake is the strongest to hit western montana in 12 years. >> a lot of you heard illegal fireworks on fourth of july, and officers say they did see an increase this year. i don't think that's going to surprise any of you, especially if you live in the east bay. the shows went on despite efforts by deputies and oakland police. they received at least 125 fireworks calls, but police say they didn't issue a single citation. officers have to actually see someone light a firework. some neighbors wish that more could be done. >> you can't really know if it's a gunshot or the fire crackers so that's how people end up getting killed. innocent people, innocent kids. >> this isn't harmless. illegal fireworks are suspected of sparking two fires in oakland, including a garage fire where there's still firework debris. the city of oakland has a phone number. it's here on the screen right there, where people can request a crew to come out and clean up

any of that firework trash. >> 5:15, and talk about the one that got away. there was no way a group of fishermen was going to reel that in. a whale shark off maryland's atlantic shore. it didn't stop them from videoing the creature. the whale shark rubbed against the boat and then slowly vanished into the night. someone else reported seeing a whale shark near ocean city last weekend. they feed on plankton and pose virtually no risk to humans. >> it appears more gray wolfs are living in california. you're looking at photos taken by the u.s. forest service camera. they believe a female wolf gave birth to at least three pups and they're part of the second pack of gray wolfs spotted near the oregon border in the last two years. they haven't been seen in california since being killed off in the 1920s. >> united airlines finds itself in another pr problem. a mother was forced to hold her

toddler on her lap despite paying about $1,000 for a seat. lindsey davis has the details. >> in this morning's "gma" first look, shirley was traveling with her 27-month-old son from hawaii to boston last thursday, paying nearly $1,000 for each ticket. all of a sudden, she says a passenger who was on the stand-by list arrived with a ticket for her son's seat. she said she was forced to hold her son on her lap for the 3 1/2-hour flight seen in the photos crammed in the area. on wednesday, united issued an apology to the mother, telling abc news we inaccurately scanned the boarding pass of her son. as a result, her son's seat appeared to not be checked in and we released his seat to another customer. we are also working with our employees to prevent this from happening again. and coming up at 7:00 a.m., we'll have more on this latest united airlines incident. with your "gma" first look, i'm

lindsey davis. >> setback this morning for house majority whip steve scalise, still recovering from a gunshot wound. he has been readmitted to the intensive care unit because of possible infection. he was critically wounded when a gunman opened fire on a baseball practice. police killed the gunman. >> look at this video out of colorado. these are not class three rapids. that's flooding from a water main break in denver. crews worked all night and will continue to work to repair the damage caused by the 130-year-old pipe that broke. it's the second time this year that pipe has busted. some baseball fans got to some baseball fans got to live out their dream at park. >> the fans got to field foul balls during the games. the tryouts are sponsored by the junior giants organization. in the end, the winners were bob and lynn, not seen here.

thursday morning drive. i think we still have a lot of folks stretching out the fourth of july holiday, making it an entire holiday week. we're looking at dense fog in some areas. visibility layer on top of the traffic maps, so if you're driving along 101 or highway 1 through santa rosa, petaluma, you could see some tough visibility conditions there. so take it easy on the roads, but so far, we're looking okay. once you make it down to san rafael, you're looking great. not seeing issues on southbound 101. westbound 80, highway 4 to the maze, 17 minutes. and sfo from san francisco, looking great at nine minutes. >> caltrans is revealing more on how they'll spend $52 billion generated by a new gas tax. governor brown approved the tax without a public vote. gas will go up by 12 cents a gallon. they'll use $19 billion to

doesn't sound like mane of them will be able to voice their opinions today. caltrain will be holding a public meeting this morning. they're asking for public comment at 10:00 this morning. this is the time to let officials know what you think about a proposed 25 cent ticket increase. caltrain says it needs to deal with a $10 million budget shortfall. riders say they are worried about how this will impact their monthly budgets. >> that would easily add about, i guess $5, $6 a month, which over time might be bad, but in the short period of time, it might be doable for me on a budget, but i know for a lot of people, it might be difficult. >> he's lucky he rode his bike to the station. those who park a car at a caltrain station will really feel the pain if this proposal passes. they're talking about increasing the monthly parking pass by almost $30. caltrain says ridership is at an all-time high. but dealing with all those

the congregation appeared yesterday in a show of support for the man. prosecutors say he invited the 18-year-old brothers to stay in his home after they ran into family prebs. >> he brought them to his home where they stayed with him while they were going through hard times. it's alleged at that location, he committed various sex acts upon them. >> he is accused of assaulting the brothers after they consumed drugs and were unconscious. he remains in jail on $750,000 bail. >> a federal judge has rejected an effort to toss out a lawsuit in the denise huskins kidnapping case. in 2015, she was drugged, kidnapped, and raped. matthew muller plead get to a federal kidnapping charge. he held her hostage for two days before letting her go. this is a case that vallejo police initially dismissed as a hoax. they said they were defamed and

suffered emotionally as a result. muller is now serving a 40-year prison sentence. >> calls to san francisco's nonemergency number to report fireworks more than doubled from last year. the 311 line got more than 1100 calls between 7:00 p.m. and midnight on the fourth. it got just over 500 calls laz year. a lot of people complained illegal fireworks seemed to be way worse this year. >> the highway patrol said at least 47 people died in collisions in california throughout the recent holiday. many of the victims were not wearing seat belts. officers made just over 1200 dui arrests. 193 were in the golden gate division that covers our nine bay area counties. >> a newark teen faces a long recovery from an injury he suffered in a firework explosion. he and friends were setting off illegal fireworks tuesday night. that's when one of the devices suddenly exploded. video shows the teen suffering

burns to his buddy and hand. >> happening today, a big step in repairing the damaged spillway at oroville dam. the work that begins today will play a key role in rebuilding the foundation of the spillway. work is running on time. part of it failed in february as lake oroville swelled. sections of the spillway also eroded. >> governor brown will call for a global summit on climate change to be held in san francisco next year. the san francisco summit will be aimed at coming up with ways to cut carbon emissions. the governor says even though trump wants to get out of the paris agreement, he doesn't speak for many other americans. brown attended a clean energy summit in china last month as an unofficial representative of the u.s. >> let's start by taking a look at san rafael where the fog has

not made it south of petaluma. you see a few clouds as you head to the golden gate bridge where the fog is thicker there today. so be careful if you're crossing that. on the bay, lighter breezes. no small craft advisory today. mass transit, good. earlier sunshine, so have the sunglasses ready, and in the woods, foggy in the north bay. about an hour ago, we had 11 reports of earthquakes. we have a swarm developing in montana. now we're up to 46 reports of earthquakes in just the last 24 hours. the largest, 5.8. that's the strongest they've had in 12 years. better them than us, maybe? i feel bad for them. 56 in fremont. we have 60s around concord and antioch. mountain view at 58. we have 54 in san francisco. look at novato, 58. pretty close to yesterday's

backup starting to fill in as well. in south san francisco, we had an early morning crash. southbound 280 to southbound 101, that has fully cleared. quick check of drive times. southbound 101, you could see fog along that stretch. and northbound 101 where we have that new crash in the south bay, it's still in it green for now. we'll see, though. that's coming in at just about 15 minutes. >> sonoma county has issued its first permits for the distribution of cultivation of cannabis. yesterday's turnout wasn't quite what some people were expected. in fact, only four applied. more are expected over the next couple weeks. if their applications are approved, they'll be eligible for a state license on january 1st. sonoma expects to generate $4 million in taxes from the new industry. >> hard to believe but this appears to be a kidnapping caught on camera. police are looking for the

yesterday afternoon. he opened the door to his van, walked over to the woman, grabbed her by the hair and shoved her inside the vehicle. look closely. there appears to be a person in the passenger seat. and they throw something out the window. but it's really hard to tell what that is. the suspected kidnapper then closes the door and calmly walks around the van before driving off. >> now breaking news from the live desk. >> we're tracking breaking news from the live desk. a man and four young children found dead in a home in a suburb of atlanta. another child was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. police say the children's mother is detained and is being questioned. the bodies were discovered in loganville about 30 miles east of atlanta after a woman called 911 to report a stabbing. police are calling this a horrendous crime. they're still investigating the motive. >> in san francisco, police are searching forra spects in a shootout in the petrero hill neighborhood. the call came in just before noon when several people in two cars exchanged gunfire on

connecticut between 25th and 26th streets. a 28-year-old man was hurt. he was taken to san francisco general hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. >> another embarrassment for unitesed airlines this morning. it's now apologizing to a passenger who was forced to give up the seat she bought for her 2-year-old son. shirley and her son were flying from houston to boston last week. she paid nearly $1,000 for her son's ticket, but she says another passenger came up and said that he was assigned to the youngster's seat. she held her son in her lap for the entire flight because she didn't want to cause a scene. >> i had him in all these contorted sleeping positions. in the very end, sadly, he was standing up between my knees. >> she says not a single airline employee on the flight asked her why she had a child on her lap. a statement from united says we inaccurately scanned the boarding pass of her son. as a result, her son's seat

appeared to be not checked. we deeply apologize to her and her son for this experience. >> a device we first told you about here could soon be changing the lives of thousands more cancer patients. it allows cancer patients to keep their hair during chemotherapy. it cools the scalp and prevents the cancer drugs from reaching the hair follicles. it was originally approved for breast cancer patients. the fda has just expanded its use to include patients treated for solid tumors. they account for 800,000 patients in the u.s. every year. >> concord appears ready to be the first bay area city to allow robots to deliver restaurant items, groceries and other items. they have created robots like these to deliver right to your door. they have a local office in redwood city. they're going to vote on tuesday to let the robots roll along the sidewalks.

good news from lake tahoe this morning. look at the bear cub, she's recovering after getting hurt in the wild. today, lake tahoe wildlife care plans to introduce her to three other cubs being cared for at the facility. someone alerted rangers the cob was alone and seemed unable to move. she needed stitches to close two cuts on her leg.

you because we had this disabled vehicle on the eastbound side just before the toll plaza. as you can see, that's all clear, so the westbound side is starting to fill in, but no major issues and a quick check of drive times. 18 minutes. 12 across the bay bridge, and southbound 101 in the green as well as nine minutes. a lot of folks stretching out the holiday. we have a couple slow spots in the south bay. we'll check on that at 6:00. >> motorized bikes are coming to a trail near you. the regional park district wants to see if motorized bikes could be a good fit alongside people using them on regular bikes or hiking so they're launching a one-year pilot program. they'll be allowed on three popular east bay trails. >> i have never tried one, though. i'm not sure if i would kill myself on it, but i would like to try it.
