>> they used a truck to pump thousands of dollars of fuels from the school district. it happened at the bus yard on olive street yesterday. >> reporter: someone stole more than 1200 gallons of diesel fuel from the bus lot. >> it's hard to believe that one would do that. they took pictures of them. >> reporter: jose, a district kcustodian snapped these crucia shots. you can see the hose was hanging out of truck as they were driving away. the pump they used is professional grade and necessary to reach the large underground fueling tanks. >> it's probably not the first time they've done it. i would imagine just to have the tank in back. we're talking about several to over 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel. >> reporter: they cut the chain and added their own lock so perhaps they could come back

later and steal more fuel. the custodian reported seeing a bald hispanic man of medium build and a woman with a blonde ponytail. >> we're looking at 3 or $4,000 worth of loss. it will be a grand theft at this point. >> we run the school as efficiently as we can. any little hit, that's $3,000. >> reporter: even though the district rate is cheaper than the surrounding pumps, every penny counts for public schools. the district plans to increase security measures. evacuation vs been ordered from large grass fire. it grew from 80 acres to 250 acres. in yolo county south of winters. huge plumes of smoke could be seen from miles away. it started at 12:30 in this hilly open area after highway

times in the past week. rangers have shut down two popular hiking trails. >> reporter: this canyon is the perfect habitat for a mountain lion. it's not unusual to see one here. what is unusual is rangers say they have seen one several times. that's why they decided to close the trail. >> i've never had to come across one. >> have not encountered any yet. >> reporter: they know they roam the trails in san jose. hikers captured this one yesterday. it's been seen several time. >> when we have repetitive sightings in a confined space that raises a bit more concern. there's something that's attracting the lion to that area. >> reporter: park rangers have closed the road as a precaution.

the bail reflects the two murder charges he's facing. by phone his mother-in-law said he's not a monster. >> reporter: it's a horrific crime. he's charged with two counts of murder. >> vincent. >> reporter: and 10-year-old lorenzo reyes. he's also charged with leaving the scene of the crash and driving under the influence with prior convictions for the same. >> to have a bit of a broken system due to the fact this person has multiple duis an still able to get bail. >> reporter: her son, 3 moelds was also injured in the crash. he remains in critical condition. >> did he express any remorse? >> wasn't given an opportunity. he just answered a question

proposed to him. >> reporter: the day after the crash wilson's wife said he turned himself in at the hospital. >> me and my husband send our condolence and our prayers out to the family. >> reporter: the day prior he was released on a reduced bail in another case where he is accused of threatening employees at the mall. his current bail is set at 2 million. >> i have a hard time believing that any judge would lower bail from $2 million to something even a dollar less. >> reporter: but says wilson was represented by a public defender today. santa clara police are looking for leads in a shooting that left san jose teenager in grave condition. it happened last night. officers in the area heard the gunshots and found car crashed into a parked car. the driver, a 17-year-old boy had been shot. he is hospitalized tonight. police were unable to find any suspects last nights. anyone with information on this case is asked to call police.

a concord man accused of leaving his dogs in a hot car is now charged with animal neglect. the online news site reports 55-year-old cliff left ten dogs, a mother and her newborn pups inside car in may. somebody found the dogs and called police. three dogs died from heat exhaustion. at last check county vet said the surviving dogs were healthy and active. another group of teenagers is accused of trying to rob a passenger on bart. it happened at oakland's coliseum station last friday. ten teens grabbed a woman's phone. things are back to normal at this san francisco safeway. earlier shoppers were told to shelter the place while police

the slew that runs near the oakland coliseum is often filled with trash that washes into francisco bay. the city is devoting nearly $2 million to pay for clean up crews. >> this is very hopeful sign. basic la oakland still needs to make progress. nobody wants to see basoakland spending money or fines and penalties and lawsuits. >> the two new clean up crews are expected to target homeless encampments believed to be generating an increasingly amount of trash which is finding its way into the bay. new legislation could expand public access to police body camera footage.

force base. you see the swath of flames there in the blackened area that's already burned through. it appears to have jumped across the road in both spots. the force base is closed until further notice. you can see how close it is. you see that airplane right over there. this is burning close to buildings and on base and the hospital is not very far from here. we're going to keep an eye on this and bring you updates as the situation develops. in other news now, vice president mike pence toured the kennedy space center as the new chair of the national space council. nasa showed the progress they have been making. one projects in the works sending people to mars. nasa wants to know if humans can live on the red planet. a new study published says we cannot. the study says there's a chemical compounds on mars that
