live where you live, this is abc 7 news. >> good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, july 9th. let's start with the quick look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> hey, carolyn, nice to have you back. good morning, everyone. check it out, low clouds and fog not only back, but looking at mist and drizzle along the shoreline. temperatures cool down considerably today. no more heat advisory, but still a risk of fire danger this time of year. concord, 10 degrees cooler this morning, as well as hayward. 48 in nevada, 60s in livermore and brentwood, but slower warming today and looking at the low cloud deck, it will sweep away from the shoreline by

noontime, so still expecting sunshine at the coast, but temperatures a lot cooler. perhaps mid 90s inland with 70s around the bay. carolyn? >> thank you, lisa. we have developing news out of vallejo. the fire department is investigating the cause of a two-alarm fire that destroyed a vacant home. fire crews arrived to find the two-story house on sacramento street fully engulfed in flames just after 11:30 last night. it took firefighters about 30 minutes to control the flames. the two homes on both sides of the burning house received minimal damage. those families were allowed back in their homes once the fire was out. no one was injured. some oakland residents back home this morning after friday morning's fire that destroyed an apartment building under construction. the fire left a crane in a dangerously unstable condition. crews safely brought it down last night. abc 7 has the story.

>> reporter: that's the sound of joy as the massive crane came crashing down. here's another look from a camera situated directly across from the crane. with that unstable crane finally out of the way, most evacuees can start to go home again. >> so as we restore power, those reside agents shared these images showing a man outside a complex in emeryville just before a fire broke out in may. may's fire came after the same complex was also gutted by flames july of last year. a $100,000 reward is being offered in the case. now to the wildfires burning across our state this morning. cal fire crews are out in force trying to stop the flames. there are at least four major

fires burning. in central california, crews are working to slow the alamo fire in san louuis obispo county. cal fire says the fire has burned more than 19,000 acres since breaking out on thursday. shifting winds are fuelling the flames and making it hard for firefighters to contain the blaze. that fire is 10% contained. and this is video showing another wildfire burning along the california coast. the whittier fire has charred 5,400 acres inside the los padres national forest. crews are helping people escape from several nearby camp sites. they did that yesterday afternoon. the u.s. forest service tells us there's 0% containment and officials are fearing that powerful winds could help the fire grow. cal fire shared this video on twitter of a jumbo jet dropping retardant on the fire

burning in butte county. so far the flames have destroyed ten homes and charred 2,700 acres. officials have urged hundreds of people to get out, but one man says he'll stay until the fire actually reaches his house. >> it's a trip, man. cut all the power off to everybody. we don't have no water. >> doing our best to get our upper hand on it, but we have a lot to contend with, with the weather and the fuels out there, very dry, so a long road ahead of us. >> cal fire says the fire's 20% contained. the fire is blamed for six injuries since it broke out friday afternoon. and north in yolo county, the winters fire is now 75% contained. the 2,000-acre fire started thursday afternoon. all evacuations have been lifted. here in the bay area, no big wildfires, but crews have been responding to several brush fires. yesterday one came dangerously close to a freeway and a

refinery. thankfully, no one was hurt. as abc 7 reporter melanie woodrow explains, the fire caught the attention of many people who live nearby. >> reporter: flames near interstate 80 and thick dark plumes of smoke from this rodeo grass fire. >> we thought it was a long ways away. no, it's close to home, maybe closer than it should be. >> reporter: close to the phillips 66 refinery, as well. >> we actually run a machine shop that provides parts for the refineries, so when we saw it was up here, we thought we'd better come look and see, because if it hits the refinery, we could get a call. >> reporter: cal fire says no structures, including the refinery were threatened in what cal fire is calling the willow fire. >> how big is it? >> reporter: the westbrooks were one of several families that stopped to look and take

pictures. >> scary. >> i've never seen a fire this big in person. >> reporter: the fire attracted the attention of several kids, as well. many of them gathering in this neighborhood cul-de-sac with the direct view of the refinery and aerial response. in rodeo, melanie woodrow, abc 7 news. in south san jose around 5:30 last night, this video was shot near silver creek valley and piercy road. 14 acres burned, no one was hurt. a pittsburgh woman faces charges in the murder of her parents. police have arrested the 50 year old at her home. they did it friday. they went to the family's house after getting a call. police say the couple was stabbed to death and appeared to have been dead for a few days. officers say the daughter tried to make it look as though the stabbings happened during a fight between her parents.

san jose police face a federal civil rights lawsuit filed by the family of a man shot and killed by officers. >> justice for anthony! >> family and friends of anthony nunez gathered outside san jose city hall. family members called 911 on july 4th last year, reporting he was depressed, had a gun. his mother said police did not need to use lethal force. >> you took a beautiful life. i don't know why you bring guns when my son needed help. >> the family ought to be able to trust the police to say when you call to help because i am mentally impaired or emotionally distraught or whatever, that the first option should not be deadly force. >> san jose police say officers fired after nunez pointed the gun at them. san jose city attorney has not commented on that suit. president trump back on u.s. soil after the g20 summit facing

a new controversy involving his son, son-in-law, and a russian lawyer with ties to the kremlin. the president returned home from the summit in germany, a trip highlighted by his meeting with russian president vladimir putin. putin says mr. trump accepted his denial about moscow not being involved in the 2016 election, but the white house has refused to confirm, telling reporters to ask the president. >> rex and i had a tremendous meeting yesterday with president putin. >> mr. president, did the russians lie about your meeting yesterday? >> while mr. trump did not respond to the reporters' questions before leaving for washington, meanwhile, donald trump jr. and jared kushner have confirmed they met with the russian lawyer two weeks after trump's nomination. they say it was about a russian adoption program. california's secretary of state wants to know why the white house asked to help

hold a day of the drivers were killed during that june 14th shooting spree. police say the gunman, jimmy lam, killed himself when confronted by responding officers. mayor ed lee and democratic representative nancy pelosi are expected to speak at today's remembrance. it starts at 2:00 this afternoon at san francisco city hall. this morning, the parents of a man who went missing near montero state beach in san mateo county will be conducting another search. 22-year-old richard moss disappeared on may 25th, shortly after leaving his montero home. his parents are hoping to get about 35 volunteers to search moss beach, south of pacifica, as well as along highway 1. moss was last seen in his car driving along highway 1 through the tunnel. today's search begins at 10:30 this morning.

one! >> barry bonds is finally on the giants' wall of fame. club spokesmen say they wanted this to happen a long time ago, but waited until bonds' legal issues were settled, and until the man who was once treated by a pariah by baseball because of a steroid scandal got back in the game. we'll have much more on the barry bonds ceremony coming up in sports. abc 7 news was at raiders headquarters in alameda where hundreds of aspiring east bay football players learned from their grid iron heros. raiders' running back marshawn lynch hosted the 11th annual family first foundation football camp. marcus peters and new york giants quarterback josh johnson co-hosted the event. peters and johnson also grew up in oakland.

million for the naming rights to the regional transportation hub. the carnival reports the deal will last 25 years. sales force is building its new headquarters nearby. several transit agency buses will begin using the center next spring. eventually, planners hope caltrain and high speed rail will use an underground station. the dust is really flying in hayward this weekend. courtesy of the bill pickett invitational rodeo. abc 7 news was in hayward at rowell ranch, along with a big crowd of spectators. the rodeo, better known as the black rodeo, entertains people from memphis to los angeles. contestants say rodeo gives you a special kind of thrill and the financial incentives aren't too bad either. >> i love it, man. it's a bit of excitement you really can't get it anywhere else, plus the prize money always makes it a bit greater. >> that's quite the rodeo.

today is the final day. the fun kicks off at 2:30 this afternoon. flavors from all over the world are coming alive this weekend during america's largest halal food festival. abc 7 news was in fremont for the fifth annual halal fest. halal means permissible in arabic. many muslims follow guidelines on what they eat. halal is similar to the kosher practices of the jewish faith. >> main thing is food, so halal food is a different way of slaughtering the animal, so it's all different kind of food, just the meat that they use is different. >> this marks the first year halal fest will be a two-day event, so it is continuing today from noon until 7:00. tickets are $5 for adults, children ten years and younger get in for free. now your accu weather forecast with lisa argen. >> good sunday morning. waking up to low clouds, fog,

even mist and drizzle. here's a look at live doppler 7, and the fog footprint, it continues to push into the bay and just one-mile visibility. up at santa rosa, three miles in petaluma. the reason, a trough of low pressure pushing into the pacific northwest and this allows for the marine layer to return to the bay area. so that's going to be welcome today, but taking you down to the tropics, this is a hurricane category 2, it's eugene, it's off the coast of mexico. winds of 100 miles an hour moving to the northwest at 8, but the good news is, this is moving away from land, and it quickly weakens as it moves into the cooler water, so no threat to land, but, of course, this time of year may be seeing a few high clouds in southern california due to that system. low clouds here, and you'll notice that it looks pretty out there on top of those clouds, but below, mist and drizzle, just 50 in pacifica, 53 in san

francisco, 56 in oakland, mountainview checking in at 57, everyone is cooler this morning, 60 in san jose. you know it's going to be a cooler day. as much as ten degrees cooler in our inland valleys. santa rosa at 50 degrees with your fog. 59 in napa. 48 novato, 58 in fairfield and concord. final stop, mt. tam, we'll look for the clouds and fog to clear away from the shoreline today. it's going to take until about noontime, but between now and then it's mist and drizzle at the coast and cooler temperatures for everyone. looks like a pretty good week ahead. temperatures coming down to seasonal averages right on through. say about wednesday, thursday, and then the numbers come up again in some spots for the weekend. so as we look at the beaches, if you're headed there today, it's going to be a cool one. we talk about the sunshine after 12:00, 1:00, temperatures in the low 60s from half moon bay to ocean beach, 70 in santa cruz,

about to get some new residents. take a look at these guys. bear cubs. our abc affiliate in anchorage, alaska, reports the zoo there is rehabilitating a record number of bears this summer. two of them have found forever homes at the san francisco zoo. the two cubs came in during may and june. they have since doubled in size and found each other as companions, and they will travel to san francisco later this month. still to come here on abc 7 morning, a raid on a marijuana grow turns into a shootout. what officers recovered down in santa cruz county. plus, another high profile actress is adding her voice to the demand for equal pay.

with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> hey, carolyn, good morning to you. a return of low clouds and fog, even mist and drizzle, so it's a welcome sight. you probably felt the change yesterday with more of a breeze. in fact, also more visibility from santa rosa, this will all clear, and we are anywhere from ten to, that's right, 20 degrees cooler from concord to antioch, about 10 degrees cooler for you in palo alto. nearly 80 today there, so nice change. and we're looking at 50s right now for oakland and hayward. if you're planning your day, we'll be in the 60s at the coast with afternoon sun. temperatures in the upper 80s. that 96 is out towards antioch. more like low 90s concord and livermore, with 70s around the way. carolyn? >> thank you. president trump is back from what the white house is calling a positive, successful trip to the g20 summit in germany. however, as abc's elizabeth hur reports, a controversy involving

trump's son and son-in-law is now making headlines. >> reporter: president trump returned to washington with the white house declaring his second foreign trip in office a success. capped by the g20 summit in germany. >> rex and i had a tremendous meeting yesterday with president putin. >> reporter: secretary of state rex tillerson says the two presidents connected quickly and had positive chemistry, and vladimir putin seems to agree. trump on tv, he said, is very, very different from the trump in person. absolute big difference. and putin acknowledged that president trump had made an issue of alleged kremlin meddling in the u.s. election, saying, "the president paid a lot of attention to this." though putin repeatedly denied the charge and claims president trump accepted his denial. it seems to me that he took it into account, said putin, and agreed. >> mr. president, did the russians lie about your meeting

they debate the weekend politics. watch this week at 8:00 this morning here on abc 7. developing news this morning, iraqi troops are celebrating the clearing of islamic state militants from some of the last strongholds in moe mosul, but the fighting has taken a devastating toll on residents, some dying right on the battlefield, many in need of medical attention. the islamic state captured mosul in a matter of days back in 2014. iraqi forces backed by u.s.-led coalition launched a major operation to retake the city in october. talk about a daring escape. look at this. you see this man clinging to a hook as he is lifted away from a burning building in denmark. that man had been doing some roofing work on top of that building when a fire broke out on friday. a nearby crane operator noticed that the guy needed rescuing.

he swung that giant machine into position for the save. hollywood is mourning the death of actor nelson ellis. ellis was best known for playing lafayette reynolds on the hbo drama "true blood." ellis also appeared as dr. martin luther king jr. in "the butler." ellis' manager saying he died of complications of heart failure. in addition to his on-screen rolls, ellis worked as a playwright and a director. he was just 39 years old. another high profile actress is speaking out about the hollywood gender gap. oscar winner emma stone is adding her voice to the demands for equal pay. ariel reshof has the story. >> reporter: emma stone sounding off about a double standard in hollywood dollars. in an exclusive cover story for

arquette calling to close the gap. the glitz and glamour only going so far. it's not just the gender pay gap, two stars of "hawaii 5-0" quitting over they say a discrepancy based on race. abc news, new york. a raid on a marijuana grow in santa cruz county turned into a shootout, leaving a suspect in stable condition. the grow was located about four miles up a trail off highland way and estimated 3,000 plants were found. on friday, officers recovered pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers that are a threat to the environment, they say, and wildlife. >> particularly the grow here is on a very sensitive steelhead tributary creek and it's one of -- an area where the migrating steelhead are in great

volatility to environmental pressures and damages. >> the suspect was shot multiple times and air lifted to a bay area hospital. nine days into its new recreational marijuana program, nevada has run out of pot. in fact, the situation is so dire the governor has endorsed the taxation department's statement of emergency. this statement lets the state allow more distribution licenses to permit the transportation of pot from farm and packing facilities to dispensaries. it's estimated that the dispensaries made $3 million in sales just from july 1st to july 4th. still ahead on abc 7 morning, he's a daredevil, he's putting on quite a display at age 85. he is roller blading down one of san francisco's steepest

temperatures once again on the cool side, but you're waking up to that drizzle, as well. certainly feeling like a july morning around the bay area with cooler conditions all around the bay for the afternoon. it's going to warm up again into next weekend, but only in certain spots. and it looks like temperatures around the next couple of days will continue to come down. here's tomorrow with numbers in the upper 80s to low 90s. 70 in oakland. back to average on tuesday, and then on wednesday, yeah, still in the 80s to near 90 inland. so a pretty nice looking work week ahead. here's the fog, 8:00 into the noon hour, and then by about 1:00 it continues to push south. little patchy at times throughout the early afternoon, but we'll see the 60s again. in the south bay today, look at temperatures ranging from the mid and upper 80s for san jose. on the peninsula, those winds align for numbers to come way down. how about 75 san mateo, 79 in redwood city. cloudy day for the start in the sunset in daly city, you should
