new danger for the people who live near friday's construction site fire in oakland. an office building damaged nearby is losing windows, shattering glass falling from as high as 15 stories up. thanks for joining us. i'm carolyn tyler. kristen will be in later today. federal investigators are now in oakland to examine the ruins of the fire site. at the same time some neighbors who who had been evacuated are

back home as others face new danger. abc 7 reporter amy hollyfield joins us live. >> reporter: hi, carolyn. look at the mobile unit that the atf has brought in. it looks like they have settled in for a while, but they haven't made progress yet on the investigation. they say it is still not safe to go in to the burned building yet. in fact, there are safety concerns all around this area. a maze of barricades dictate life right now around oakland's auto row. some people are being let out while others say they feel penned in? >> it's puzzling because i don't know what i can and cannot do. >> the silver metal fences are cordoning off her block of 23rd street because glass is falling from the office building across the street. the windows got too hot from friday morning's huge fire and now they are cooling off and shattering. residents are allowed to come and go today, and it's still considered too dangerous to open

the street. >> i kept hearing glass falling so i don't think they have resolved that issue, a little bit frightening. the noise is worse than anything. >> atf agents say their work space is also unsafe, and they, too, are keeping a safe distance. they need engineers to determine the structural integrity of what is left of this burned building. they are here on scene, ready to look for the fire's cause and haven't entered the scene yet. also blocked out from work. employees of the building on grand avenue where the glass is falling. sandy yip got here at 7:30, anxious to get inside. >> i woke up pretty early today to get my laptop. >> reporter: employees were allowed in at 8:00 but only long enough to grab what they need. the building is still closed. >> hey, at least we can get in and get it. friday i couldn't do it, and it's somewhat of a drag, but, you know, what are you going to do? >> the atf told me there was a briefing set for 9:00 this morning between federal and local officials, and they are

hoping to get information out to the public later today. reporting live in oakland. amy hollifield, abc 7 news. >> going to take some time. thank you, amy. residents who are now back home after friday's fire face a long road ahead, cleanup and costly repairs. abc 7 news was in oakland when crews tore down that crane at the construction site on valdez street saturday night. the city worked to make sure it would not fall and hurt anybody. residents were allowed into some nearby apartments. one neighbor tells abc 7 news smoke and ash simply destroyed his home. >> so you're saying to fix and everything, it's going to take three months so i don't know where i'll go for the three months. >> the red cross is working with the city to arrange hotel accommodations for those who remain without a place to live. investigators will looking at similarities between friday's fire and arsons in may and last

july that tore through another apartment building. it's just a couple of miles away on the border. that building was also under construction what a fire started in a stairwell. there's a $10,000 reward offered to catch the arsonist. new details in the effort to find the killer of a college student who was gunned down near ghirardelli square in san francisco nearly one year ago. abc news reporter tiffany wilson is live at aquatic park with more. good morning. >> reporter: several major developments to report today. first of all, the city of san francisco is offering a $50,000 reward for information. the u.s. park police is offering an additional $10,000 and then when you add that to the money from the family, it's now 110,000 for information leading

to the suspect. also, the u.s. park police put out a new vehicle of interest in this case, a 2006 to 2009 dark-colored audi a-3 wagon like in this picture. the second vehicle of interest has been changed to a white 2013 four-day hyundai sonata. calvin riley was shot in the back while playing pokemon go august 6, 2016. park police put out this sketch of a suspect seen in the area around that time. carrie ann riley says the past 11 months with her son dead and the killer free have been torture. >> it's been hell. we're living a nightmare every day. we still file like he's coming home. it's hard to realize that he's not. we don't know how to go on without him. >> it is not going to be a cold case. we will not allow it to become a

cold case, and by upping the amount of money that is now a reward at $110,000 makes this case very much alive. >> reporter: carrie anne riley describes her son as a beautiful soul, and she says getting his killer behind bars will bring her family some sense of justice and closure. live in san francisco, tiffany wilson, abc 7 news. >> thank you, tiffany. developing news as part of mission street in san francisco has reopened following a homicide this morning. police are still investigating the shooting near 24th street that left a man dead around 2:30 this morning. it's possible multiple suspects are involved. at one point during the investigation a sink was thrown through the window of a police vehicle. we will have more on this story as additional details are released. san jose police are looking for a woman accused of stabbing a man to death. it happened yesterday morning on south second street just a block

away from the 280 freeway. officers found the victim with at least one stab wound. he was taken to the hospital, and that's where he died. we now know the person arrested in a high-speed chase covering several east bay cities is wanted for murder. that suspect taken into custody just after 11:00 last night at 24th and adeline in oakland. "the east bay times" said the chase started with a traffic stop on chestnut street. they tried to pull the driver over when they noticed he had a handgun. the chase went to san leandro and back north to oakland and into emoryville and berkeley. investigators have not yet released details about the murder case that they believe the suspect may be linked to. new developments in the russia investigation. we are learning more about donald trump jr.'s meeting with a kremlin-linked lawyer. the meeting came two weeks after his father landed the gop

nomination. abc's emily row explains why trump jr. explains why he agreed to do it. >> a miss universe connection initiated the meeting between then candidate donald trump's inner circle and a russian lawyer with reported ties to the kremlin. responding to a "new york times" report, don jr. first told abc news on saturday the meeting was primarily about an adoption program and did not mention talk of campaign dirt on clinton, but then a "new york times" follow-up citing white house advisers who said the president's son only agreed to that meeting after the promise of information harmful to hillary clinton, so on sunday donald jr. revising his account saying the lawyer stated that she had information that individuals connected to russia were supporting mrs. clinton, but he says her statements were vague, ambiguous and made no sense. then the meeting quickly turned to russian adoptions and policy, prompting don jr. to end the

meeting. counsellor to the president kellyanne conway coming to his defense monday on "gma." >> and don jr. came for the this weekend and gave more information about the meeting. he also made very clear -- >> after denying it? >> that no information that was meaningful and helpful was gained from this. >> donald jr. also tweeting obviously i'm the first person on a campaign to ever take a meeting to hear info about an opponent, went nowhere but had to listen. no inconsistency in statement. meeting ended up being primarily about adoptions. in response to further questions, i simply provided more details. the kremlin is also commenting on this situation. a spokesman saying they do not know the russian lawyer who met with donald jr., paul manafort and jared kushner. emily row, abc news, washington. well, it is a race against the clock to pass the gop health care bill. congress has 15 work days left and then they take an august break. as of this morning, at least ten

new details this morning on an active duty army infantry man accused of killing his wife and a new york state trooper.

911 callers reported seeing 32-year-old justin walters firing 30 to 50 rounds from an assault rifle and screaming before state trooper joel davis arrived. police say walters opened fire on the trooper before surrendering outside his home near the canadian border. walters' wife was found dead inside. trooper davis was married with three kids. he had only been on the job for four years. walters was in court this morning wearing only shorts. our sister station in new york reports he appeared a bit confused. he's being held without bail. happening now, the funeral mass for san francisco archbishop emeritus quinn passed away june 22nd after a lengthy illness. he served as bob is of san francisco from 1977 to 1995, and he built quite a reputation as an advocate of social justice

and a leader in the liberalization of the catholic church. in his retirement, quinn lectured and wrote two books on reforming the papacy and was working on a third when he died at age 88. thousands of gallons of water are being dumped in the bottle because water officials say someone broke into a water tank and possibly contaminated it. officials say someone cut through the chain link fence and cut the look to get to the tank on friday. that tanker is vices 1,000 customers and has since been taken offline. water tests did not turn up any contaminants but officials say it's impossible to test everything. >> our number one priority is to protect our customers' drinking water supplies. we made the decision then to go ahead and start draining the tank. >> who would want to contaminate the water, especially since we just got past the drought and now all that water is wasted. >> this is is the second time in

three years there have been water tank breakins. the water district is now re-evaluating its security measures. >> new developments this morning on california's attempt to acquire land leading to a san mateo county beach. said legislators are scheduled to meet on tuesday, tomorrow, to consider a plan to buy over six acres of land from silicon valley billion air kosla who several years ago placed a gate on his property that blocked public access to martins beach near half moon bay. the state lands commission is considering invoking eminent domain to purchase the land. kosla's attorney claims the parcel is worth $30 million. amazon's prime day sale begins tonight with big discounts on thousands of items. still ahead, advice for shoppers on finding the best deals. and a live look at right now
