on board a marine corps plane that spiralled to the ground have died. thanks for joining us. i'm kristen sze in for ama daetz. >> i'm dan ashley. tonight the fbi and military officials are trying to figure out exactly what went wrong. it happened in the late afternoon in the town much itta bena, a rural area. >> marine corps say the casey 130 plane had a mishap. witnesses saw it go down in a cork screw pattern and slam into a toy bean field leaving a five mile trail of debris. in the last couple of hours a county spokesman urged people to stay away from the crash site because it is still unsafe. >> we don't want anybody out there. we have fuel out there. so we don't want anybod without responders in the area. >> the plane is used extensively in the military for ariel refuelling, carrying cargo and transporting troops as well. our other top story tonight, a fast moving grass fire in the south bay. right now firefighters in san

jose are still at the scene seven hours after this thing started. >> flames from a car fire spread to a hillside near san file lee pay and metcalf rode. melanie is live with the developing story. >> reporter: kristin and dan, there were initial concerns people would have to leave their homes but ultimately no structures were threatened. right now the firefighters are still out there mopping up this fire and working on containment. cal fire says while it is evident this vegetation fire began with the car fire, they will need to investigate the fire. the fire so hot it melted the car's rims. approximately 150 firefighters responded this afternoon. on the ground, cutting back trees. and in the air dumping water and fire retard ent. >> luckily there are roads on the ranch land we're using as a perimeter for one flank of the fire that did a good job of

you leave. just enable push alerts. 37 structures now have been destroyed by the so-called wall fire in butte county. evacuated residents describe seeing flames 100 feet high. evacuated residents say they got out as quickly as they could. the fire is now 40% contained. some mandatory evacuations were changed to voluntary today. now, we are staying on top of new developments tonight on that massive construction fire in oakland. drone view 7 shows the rubble that was left behind, just devastating as you can see. new tonight, new evidence showing a possible arsonist who may have set another fire not far away. in recent months and agents are in the early stages of determining the cause on this one, but they released footage today hoping it will spark someone's memory. you can see surveillance footage captured a man putting on a hood and gloves in the moments before a large apartment development was set on fire. the suspected arsonist is seen scaling the building scaffolding along san pablo avenue. that fire destroyed the construction project on may 13th. it had burned once before in july of last year. >> these buildings don't go up by themselves. >> many oakland evidence like tarik calezaleh believe the fire is suspicious. 22 agents with the bureau of alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives arrived this morning to investigate. the developer wood partners says they're helping. >> we obviously can't speculate but we are working closely with local authorities, local

investigators and the national atf team that flew in today. >> private security teams guarded the alta project and the previous locations. >> there were surveillance cameras in use. >> meanwhile, pg&e restored power to surrounding homes but a building on waverly has been read tagged. the developer and red cross have housed displaced residents in hotels. in oakland, katie utehs, "abc 7 news." tonight a bart official is being criticized for a memo about bart ea's position on withholding crime information. the memo suggested reporting the crimes would unfairly affect and portray riders of color. since april there have been at least three cellphone robberies on bart. on friday night another man says he was followed off bart by a group of teens who attacked and robbed him on uc berkley's campus. bart didn't put on a press release and doesn't regularly provide crime notices. a bart board member wants to

change all of that. >> i think we have to be honest with the public. i think the public needs to know tactics that are used, which is why i think that the attack on april 22nd should be shown. >> bart says they do report all crime on a site called crime mapping.com, the site lists about one sentence on each incident. >> a private tennis coach is accused of the same crime again. police in richmond arrested normany burgos on a tennis court today. two of his students there, including a 16 year old boy, say he molested them. in 2006 he was fired after being charged with molesting four students. that ended in a hung jury. tonight police are looking for a car jacker that stole someone's pickup truck at a gas station this weekend. this is a sketch of the man police say pretended to have a weapon and stole the truck from

a man in the process of filling up his car. he was in a hurry to lead and tore the gas nozzle off when he drove away. the victim was not injured. we are learning acore woodland elementary in east oakland was vandalized over the weekend. the highed security guard witnessed the incident saturday afternoon but was not allowed tone gauge. the guard called oakland police. the guard says he believes it was former students, nothing stolen but damaged. summer schoolers had to move classrooms today, but everything should be back to normal tomorrow. police are investigating. >> new tonight, "new york times" report out late today says president trump's son was informed by e-mail that a kremlin connected russian lawyer would offer him compromising information about hillary clinton during the campaign. that e-mail apparently says the material was part of a russian government effort to aid his father's campaign.

abc news reporter emily rowe is in washington. >> reporter: team trump playing defense after a "new york times" report revealed the president's eldest son agreed to a meeting with the russian lawyer in exchange for damaging information about hillary clinton. sarah huckabee sanders saying nothing about don jr.'s meeting was inappropriate. >> there was simply no collusion that they keep trying to create that there was. >> reporter: kellyanne conway coming to his defense on gma. >> he had no idea who this person was until she entered the room. >> reporter: and now that detail raising eyebrows. why donald jr. would agree to a meeting at trump tower with an unknown russian lawyer who has ties to the kremlin and invite two of the most powerful people on the trump campaign, paul manafort and jared kushner, to join him after first saying the purpose of the meeting was to discuss russian adoptions, he now says it was to learn about information that would hurt hillary clinton. trump jr. saying the russian attorney's statements about the

but at this moment, she's fighting a brain tumor. announcer: please take a moment and join st. jude in finding cures and saving children. visit stjude.org. an after fluent east bay town is raising a red flag tonight. moraga has declared a fiscal emergency. damage from last winter's storm has left the town strapped for cash and on the brink of bankruptcy. new details from "abc 7 news" reporter cornell bernard live in moraga. >> reporter: yeah, kristin. repairs on the sink hole behind me will begin next week but it has become a real money pit for this town. in fact, another infrastructure failure around here could mean financial disaster. >> it is surprising. very surprising. >> reporter: many are surprise it to hear the lovely affluent town of more ago ah where the average price of a home is

$1.2 million is short on cash. >> all of the houses are pretty intact and everybody is driving pretty nice cars. >> reporter: moraga officials recently declared a fiscal emergency. the squeeze on the town comes partly from two frukt disasters, a sink hole which opened up in the center of town last year and storm damage to a bridge on canyon road. repairs for both projects topping around five million dollars, depleting the town's savings. >> we just don't have any revenue available at this point to address any future fiscal emergencies or any infrastructure emergencies. >> reporter: real estate prices may be booming, but local tax collections haven't followed because of proposition 13. for now moraga won't layoff any of its 36 full-time employees. instead, it plans the reduce services like park maintenance. but some residents are asking how did we get here. >> it is kind of embarrassing frankly that, you know, we're kind of overboard financially. >> reporter: don has lived in

moraga 24 years. >> i'm not sure where we go from here. should we fire the council? >> reporter: the fiscal emergency allows moraga to rais the ballot before the next election. the town plans to send a survey to residents on what kind of tax they would prefer. in moraga, cornell bernard, "abc 7 news." if you haven't heard about this yet, it is amazing. a case of pilot confusion at san francisco international airport could have turned into an absolutely catastrophic crash. >> where's this guy going? he's on the taxi way. >> on friday night an air canada plane from toronto was given the okay to land. as you heard there, another pilot warned the tower the plane was trying to land on the taxi way, not the runway. that's where our media partners it the bay area news report were four planes getting ready to take off. the tower ordered the plane to abort the landing to go around the airport another time to land again to prevent a potential

the coming days are for you, right? >> yeah, tomorrow you will continue to see too manying. let me show you a time lapse from our south bay camera. it was a few hours ago. looking towards downtown san francisco, you're watching just patchy fog there. not really a solid marine layer, not a real deep marine layer, but tonight things are changing rapidly. we are starting to see a little more fog around san francisco. tomorrow morning around the commute, 7:00 a.m., you are looking at temperatures in the 50s. really around noon time it will be in the 50s to 70s. the fog will disappear and for the afternoon should be a nice day, not too hot, low 60s to upper 80s. we will get rid of some of the heat we had today. today temperatures were up into the 90s in so area. a live look from the emeryville camera as you look across the bay there. visibility from this vantage point still looking good, but it is really parts of san francisco and the coast that will have to deal with the fog. on live doppler 7 we don't have any rain to speak of, not that time of year for rain, but certainly are tracking some fog

along the coastline. temperatures right now 50s to the 60s, but brentwood, you're still pretty warm at 79 degrees. here is the fog i'm talking about from our sutro tower camera. we are zooming out to given you a better perspective. the bay bridge is somewhere in there under the blanket of fog. we will be watching the fog increasing as we head towards your morning commute. fog near the coast for the commute. cooling continues tomorrow, and it is heating up again by week's end. tomorrow morning when you get going, watch out. reduced visibility across parts of the bay area. temperatures range from the low 50s to the low 60s with the buildest readings inland under clear skies. highs for tuesday in the south bay, 82 in san jose, 84 in gilroy. 73 red wood, low 60s near the coast. downtown san francisco 63 degrees. it will be a breezy one along the coastline helping to knock temperatures down, especially in the inland areas. in the north bay, 81 in san rafael, 82 in santa rosa, 69 in

oakland, head inland and 84 at walnut creek, 85 degrees in concord. there's a beach hazard statement tuesday night through wednesday night for the entire coast. southerly swell developing will send large breakers, a risk of rip current and sneaker wave, all generated by what was once hurricane eugene. it is a tropical storm, continuing to weaken over the pacific waters, cooler waters, and leftover moisture will drift towards the bay area in the form of clouds and higher humidity heading towards friday. here is a chelk of the accuweather seven day forecast. cooler tomorrow, low 60s to upper 80s. if you like it warm, bump those temperatures back up for midweek. as we head towards fridays, temperatures in the 60s to 90s range. not so typical if you don't like the heat, but saturday and sunday we will see sizzling conditions inland.

the kittens that survived a high tech rescue soon will have a new home. they were found trapped inside a piece of construction equipment in redwood city in may. rescuers from the humane society used a remote camera to use their location. then turned to another piece of specialized equipment to free them. we have word tonight two of the kittens have been adopted. one remains. >> they're so cute. >> the last one will be adopted. >> yes. from a display of cuteness to a display of just sheer power. >> it was raining. >> raw power. bombs away at home run derby. a idea raised in california, once drafted, won it, judge, once drafted, won it, judge, jury,ar music playing ) - ( snaps, clatters ) that sounds awful.
