trees, the dry grass, it is pretty scary. >> traffic coming in and out of clater way has been limited this mrning. there are police stations at the end to make sure no one who isn't supposed to be here comes here. we do expect an update on the fire numbers in a few hours. tiffany wilson, abc 7 news. >> thank you. alameda county fire crews remain at the scene of a two-alarm fire at a junk yard this morning. thick smoke poured from the iron and metal company yesterday. the flames started just before 5:00 and one of the piles of scrap metal and took off from there. a shelter in place order was ordered. some reported having headaches and feeling dizzy. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. >> now to the buzz on capitol hill and much of the world. donald trump jr. defending his meeting with the russian lawyer after being promised damaging information on hillary clinton

during the presidential campaign. abc news reporter janay norman live for us in washington. >> good morning. some democrats are saying those e-mails are clear signs of collusion, and even some republicans are expressing concerns over donald trump jr.'s willingness to accept help from russians. donald trump jr.'s e-mails, for some on capitol hill, the fire where there's also smoke. >> this is moving into perjury, false statements and even into potentially treason. >> donald trump jr. was openly sellivating about the prospect of getting damaging information from the russians. it's evidence of collusion. >> the e-mails show on june 3rd of last said they could provide them with documents and information that would incriminate hillary and would be very useful to your father. this is very high level and

release them. reporting live from washington, janay norman, abc 7 news. >> thank you. senator dianne feinstein released a statement on facebook. quote, what we know so far about the donald trump jr. e-mails is deeply disturbing. they appear to show direct coordination between the trump campaign and possibly the russian government itself. feinstein is calling for trump jr. to testify before congress. >> senate majority leader mitch mcconnell is delaying the senate's august recess by two weeks to generate momentum for a health care bill. that's despite the deep divisions that remain in the party. a group of ten republican stay around. >> we will be in session the first two weeks of august. >> as long as this bill continues to cut taxes on the very wealthy and hurt working americans, the bill is going to be as unpopular as it is today. >> senator mcconnell says he plans to unveil a revised health care bill parm.

chuck grassley said he's very pessimistic senators will be able to settle their differences. >> uc regents are meeting in san francisco to give final approval to a new $813 million budget. it includes new cost controls like a cut in spending for employee travel. four new regents are joining the board, and there's a new board chair who says his top priority is to improve relations with state lawmakers. >> we warned you this could happen yesterday and it did. neighbors in the east bay will pay more for water. east bay mud officials have approved a hike despite opposition from customers. they're going to pay 9.25% year. they will face another 9% increase next summer. the average family will see their bills increase $4 a month. there will be people who don't like it. >> it's an unjustice for us for

them to keep wanting to raise the rates. it's not fair. >> east bay mud says the hike is needed because the district lost revenue when people conserved water during the drought. the additional money will also pay for infrastructure improvements. >> two beaches in santa cruz are closed until the weekend after a man was nearly bit by a shark. steve was in his kayak when he looked down to see a shark by the front of it. he was flipped into the water. he wasn't hurt, but the shark's jaws left a foot-long impression on the front of the kayak. >> park patrol came right out, helped me. i never saw the shark again. i'm sure it was a mistake on his part. i'm sure he's probably saying, hey, i lost a tooth or something. >> water access for about a mile will be restricted. that covers santa cruz's main beach and cal beach. the restrictions end saturday morning. how long the impression was on his mind after seeing that. good morning, everyone. here's a look from south bay,

looking at the bay bridge. i want to start with your commute planner. clouds to sunshine. on the bay, going good today. no small craft advisory. almost as breezy as yesterday. just not quite that threshold. mass transit, no weather worries. let's talk temperatures around san francisco. west portal is the coolest at 52. the ferry building, marina, those will be at 55 degrees. 55 in san leandro and santa clara. american canyon at 56. palo alto at 58. let's look at what's going to happen in the south bay where the fire was going yesterday. temperatures weren't too extreme. and they won't be again today. temperature about 62 at 8:00. down in san jose. your noon time temperature, sunny 77. we hang out in the low 80s from 2:00 to 4:00. back to 77 at 6:00. by 8:00, 70 degrees. temperatures today a little below average at the bay and the coast. close to average inland. minor tweaks tomorrow and then

of fcc net neutrality rules. i want to show you here alt the live tesk what i've been starting to see. today called a day of action. if you're suffering the web, you will see things like this throughout the day. you see this huge ad when you logon consumerest.com, to learn more on net neutrality and how to save it. and also websites like this one, spotify, with a banner here at the very top and a link to find out more. google, facebook, netflix, and amazon also taking part in this protest today. net neutrality means a free and open internet. many companies want to keep it this way. they're worried the new rules could mean slower internet speeds and services. >> thank you. san jose neighbors are upset about a controversial housing project right near a popular park. the plan would involve building temporary housing for some of the city's 4,000 homeless people near thousand oaks park. here's kate larson. >> the city shouldn't be doing

this. >> hundreds of frustrated neighbors overflowing out of a meeting with the housing department about turning this plot of land across the street from thousand oaks park into housing for the homeless. >> when you build them, more of them will be coming. >> director of housing jackie morales says the city is considering building 20 to 25 tiny homes as well as bathroom and kitsching structures for the homeless early next year. all ten districts must propose a new site for homeless communities. >> this was the only district that had one surplus site in their district. it was highly unusual because most of the other districts have multiple sites. >> how are they going to promise us the safety of our kids? >> this man lives a block and a half away from the parb. he has three kids under 6. >> the thought of having that project being built in my neighborhood really scares me. >> i'm incredibly sensitive to the homeless situation.

>> denise thinks the city should help the homeless but she's worried about the price of her home dropping. she says the city will be considering leasing a different site and other community suggestions. in san jose, kate larson. >> this is quite a strange story. we want you to look at your tv to perhaps help the chp in santa rosa. they are looking to identify this woman. she's accused of using a counterfeit $100 bill at a school bake sale. high school students were selling baked goods to raise money for their music program. so they were standing in front of oliver's market on monday. investigators say this woman bought several items and then paid with a fake $100 bill. the students gave her $80 in change. and then one of the students realized, hey, this is a fake. they tried to actually stop the woman, but she sped off in what appears to be a dark older honda with custom rims.

the woman described at 5'6", pounds with a tattoo on her left forearm. >> thieves rip off a cvs. four women enter the store and fill their bags there. they were after allergy products. the women took off in a newer mottle charcoal gray nissan altima with blue paper plates. an elementary school vandalized, and east oakland needs your help to raise $7,000 for repairs. they created a go fund me page after vandals broke in on saturday. it will take months to replace custom windsoes and set up new security cameras. the principal says he believes former students damaged the school. the school has raised almost $4,000 of its $7,000 goal. if you would like to help, we set up a link on our website. >> man who witnessed a

beating at a b.a.r.t. station took matters into his own hands. he rode b.a.r.t. yesterday. what he saw at the train station shocked him. >> i witnessed a tall man striking another man with a cane. he's just going to town on this guy. he's yelling for help. he's rolled up in a fetal position. and nobody is helping him. >> casey says he chased the attacker then tackled him. construction workers helped tie the man's hands and kept him down until police got there. no word yet on a motive for the attack. >> this week, mariners are asked to avoid a 350 meter safety zone around the bay around the area where a barge sank in a storm. salvage crews began removing part of it. wo pieces still remain. part of one of the pieces is sitting on 25 feet of mud. on top of the transbay tube that carries passengers between san francisco. >> let's take a look at what weather has in store for us today. how does it look? >> a little cloudy right now.

hi, everybody. here's a look from our camera at pier 15. and the cloud cover is going to be kind of thin, so it will become sunny, even at the coast, pockets of sunshine. not as much sunshine as we saw yesterday. nearly steady through friday and still looking at the 100s this weekend. here's a look at the cloud cover. you can see already, there's more of it than there was yesterday at this time. and it's going to start making the quick trip to the east over the next three to four hours. it will reach our inland neighborhoods. won't stay long, but it will keep us in the mid to upper 80s. 80s in pleasanton, san ramon and walnut creek. in the south bay, close to average. 82 at san jose. los gatos, 85. santa cruz, 75 today. in the north bay, 86en santa rosa. breezes will be lighter. napa, novato at 82. along the east -- i should say the peninsula, san mateo at 75. with a few more clouds at the coast. pacifica, 61. as we go down towards oakland, we have 73, sunny and mild

there. 77 in hayward, and the last stop will be san francisco. 66. looks like summer is absent once again. here's a look at my seven-day forecast. you can see temperatures pretty steady still through friday. looking at mid to upper 80s around the bay saturday with 100s inland. you can head to the coast, mid 60s there. that's where there's going to be free air conditioning. excuse me. >> you want a throat lozenge. >> i could use one. how is the morning commute beginning? >> we're off to a quiet start, as you would hope at 4:47 in the morning. golden gate bridge, we have zipper trucks out, and we will have a few more lanes open on the southbound side, but no major delays or anything like that coming from the north bay this morning. one new issue with mass transit with b.a.r.t., a ten-minute delay system wide due to unscheduled track maintenance. so far, the delays pretty minimal. no delays for san francisco bay ferry. we're in the green all the way

floating piece of plastic. nearly 9 million tons of plastic wind up in the that debris threatened creatures like this sea turtle found with a straw up its nose. the aquarium and the monterey bay aquarium are among 19 nationwide taking a stand. >> the problem is accelerating. a lot of people think, if i recycle, it takes care of the problem. we tell our visitors, 20 million visitors across all of our institutions, to skip the straw. >> aquariums across the country have cut out plastic straws and plastic bags and they're asking you to do the same. the goal is to phase out nearly all plastic beverage bottles in these aquariums by 2020. that poor turtle. >> kids in san francisco's laurel heights neighborhood will soon have a new playground to enjoy thanks to an arm arof volunteers. they were at the booker t. washington community service center yesterday. that's where a team from abc 7 teamed with our friends to begin

work on a new playground for the center. employees there are excited. >> it means a lot to me. i have been a part of the community center for about 17 years. and i'm excited. the labor, i wasn't ready for it, but you know, i'm here and i'm excited so i'm going to give it my all. >> the volunteers are doing prep work yesterday. construction of the new playground will begin tomorrow. no more hand stamps at disneyland. for so many decades, you needed the ultraviolet stamp to get back in the park. for several years, multi-day ticket and pass holders have skipped the stamp in favor of a photograph at the gate. lately, only single day tickets needed a hand stamp. now, those folks will also get a photo taken instead. disney is the parent company of abc 7. it's my chance to say have a magical day, natasha, and also you, mike. >> only you would know about the bear jamboree, probably. >> i might have written the script. >> i thought so.

here's a look from santa cruz. that's where it's going to be sunny today and warmest along the coast. 72 as the gray will linger longer. most of us around 62 to 66 degrees. still have issues with the surf. the large breakers. the sneaker waves, the rip currents, especially santa cruz and stinson beach. let's look at what's going to happen tonight. the cloud cover becoming more extensive. lows will dip down to 51 in santa rosa to 59 in antioch and san jose. when we come back, we'll take a look at the day planner for hump day. how about commute news? >> we have reports of brush fire off state route 4 just to the north of that near hill crest avenue. not seeing delays in the area. we do have fire crews on the way here, trying to find that, but you certainly could see it from highway 4. a couple folks driving along the stretch called that in. i'll keep an eye on that. drive times nice and light. westbound 80, highway 4 to the
