we have the slow lane blocked right now. also talked to chp about a hazard reported, westbound 80 at powell street. sounds like a pt cruiser that blew a tire out. it looks like the backup improving so i'll tree to confirm if they have it cleared. >> alexis, thank you. >> tracking breaking news in newark this morning. alameda county firefighters are investigating after a fire burned through a business there. several cars caught fire, then the flames spread into the building. this started around 2:15 around central avenue and timber streets. no injuries reported. the cause is still under investigation. yikes. several skateboarders and a police officer end up hurt after a skater takeover outside dolores park. >> all of this happened last night, and this morning, amy hollyfield has the new video and the latest information. amy. >> hi, natasha. police briefed me this morning. they say the officer who was hurt hurt his shoulder. he's okay. he's been released from the

hospital. some of the skateboarders didn't like how police handled the situation, claiming they got in their way and caused some of them to fall. here is video of one of those falls. >> oh! >> police say they were trying to protect the skaters who were going very fast down dolores street. they also had to watch out for pedestrians and cars. hundreds of people showed up for this informal skateboard competition. police were called when people complained dolores was blocked and they couldn't use it. there were some nasty falls. a few participants who fell were taken to the hospital. they were not wearing helmets. there was a tense standoff between police and skaters who did not want them there. police say some of the people threw stuff at them and their cars. two police cars' windows were broken. the event was finally broken up

by about 9:00 last night and dolores street was reopen. no arrests were made. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you, amy. we're tracking developing news out of the south bay where a raging brush fire has destroyed the home, this home in the foothills of east san jose. here's a live look showing the damage. this is on clater way near lariat lane. this morning, the fire is still burning close by. the latest numbers show 40% contained. it's grown to 100 acres since it broke out yesterday afternoon, prompting evacuations. the thick smoke was visible throughout the south bay. we expect to get an update on the fire later this morning. >> firefighters in san leandro keeping an eye on this fire that burned piles of scrap metal at a junk yard at alco iron and metal company. firefighters managed to contain the flames but a shelter in place order was issued and the bay area air quality district advised people to avoid the area because of hueigeus of smoke.

he didn't try to collude with russia to damage hillary clinton during the election. this morning, president trump tweeted his son did a good job in the interview saying he was open, transparent and innocent. this is the greatest witch hunt in political history, sad. abc news spoke to the russian lawyer overnight. she says trump jr. was disappointed she didn't deliver any incriminating information, and she doesn't know why he was told to expect any. president trump's lawyer spoke to "gma" this morning. >> thie meeting itself doesn't violate the law. the president wasn't aware of it. donald trump jr. said in retrospect he would look at it differently today. >> the kremlin today denied reaching out to the russian property developer who arranged the meeting between the lawyer and donald trump jr. >> mitch mcconnell says they're delaying the start of the senate's august recess to work on major issues like health care. the senate usually takes its recess at the start of august but now it's pushed back to the third week in the month. senator mcconnell says they also need to work on tax reform and the budget.

big consumer news coming in. you can expect interest rates to continue to go up. federal reserve chair janet yellen told congress the central bank expects to keep raising interest rates. she said it will happen at a gradual pace. yellin cited strong job gains and rising household incomes that should help fuel economic growth in the next few years. they raised interest rates three times since december. they will likely issue another hike at least once more time this year. back to you. san francisco city officials plan to discuss imposing a tax on vacant properties. according to the san francisco examiner, supervisor aaron peskin requested the city attorney's office to explore legislation to do so. he says the number of vacancies contribute to the housing crisis and small business struggle. vancouver, canada, recently assessed a 1% tax on homes thereat not principle residences

6:23. investigators looking into another incident at sfo after a propeller of a u.s. coast guard plane clips the tarmac. coast guard officials say they believe it was some kind of failure that happened when the plane was taxiing for takeoff. the runway was closed while airport officials looked for damage and debris. that comes after a nearly disastrous incident people are still talking about that happened on friday. the faa and ntsb investigating

why an air canada plane nearly landed on a taxiway instelof the runway. four planes were waiting to take off when a pilot flagged air traffic control. flight aware shows the plane dropped as low as 175 feet before throttling the engines and pulling back up. >> wow. >> 6:24 now. san francisco officials have issued permit rules for bike sharing operators. the chronicle reports this could be opening the door for other systems to compete with the ford go bike program. the application includes financial and other requirements that do not apply to ford go bike. it would require operators to have unlimited trips under 30 minutes to customers. three companies want to open stationless sharing in san francisco. new at 6:00, if you're thinking about getting a senior pass to our national parks, do it now. next month, the price is going to jump 700%. the lifetime pass currently costs $10.

another hour or two and we could start to fill in. we do have a crash that just cleared, southbound 680 near sycamore valley. looks like the location a bit off. it could be just south of there. we're seeing some delays but heard that everything is pushed off to the shoulder. that's in the clearing stations, and southbound 680 before willow pass, before the 242 connection in the concord area. that has cleared as well. no delays there and things looking good. we'll prove that with drive times next. >> developing news in san jose where firefighters are working to contain a fst-moving wildfire. >> the lariat fire has taken one home and damaged another near alum rock park. tiffany wilson is live. >> reporter: i just got updated numbers from the firefighters. this fire is now 101 acres, about 50% contained. the house behind me, as you can see, completely destroyed. two others minorly damaged. i want to show you details of how random and intense the fire

can be. this lamp burst from the heat, but the plant next to it, unscathed. if you look at the house, it's just a husk that remains. yet you can see the tree right behind it standing still. there is also a hose right here leading up to the front of the house, as firefighters have been standing by all night long, looking for hot spots. sky 7 got video of this house as flames ate away at the yesterday afternoon. the fire started at 4:39, and a hooj cloud of smoke billowed out over east san jose. the fire quickly grew to around 100 acres, and the updated percentage contained is now 50%, about 11 homes were evacuated and alum rock park was closed as flamed advanced. thankfully, no one was injured. nearby residents say it was a scary afternoon. >> with the winds and the flames s jumping. with the eucalyptus trees, the dry grass. it is pretty scary.

smelling the folk as hayward. some reported having headaches and feeling dizzy. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. >> new developments in the controversy over donald trump jr.'s meeting with a russian lawyer. yesterday, trump jr. said the meeting was a waste of 20 minutes. that's after he released e-mails from an acquaint nls who told him last year the crown prosecutor of russia offered to provide information that would incriminate hillary clinton and her deals with russia. trump jr. appeared eager to accept that information. >> is that evidence that the trump campaign then knew that russia was trying to interfere? >> no, i don't think so. no. >> this is moving into perjury, false statements, and even into potentially treason. >> the russian lawyer trump jr. met with spoke to abc news overnight. she said she doesn't know why trump jr. was told to expect incriminating information on clinton and that he was disappointed she didn't have any. senator dianne feinstein released a statement on facebook that says, what we know so far about the donald trump jr.

e-mails is deeply disturbing. they appear to show direct coordination between the trump campaign and possibly the russian government itself. feinstein is calling for trump jr. to testify before congress. >> mitch mcconnell is delaying the senate's august recess by two weeks to generate momentum for a health care bill. that's despite the deep divisions that remain in the party. a group of ten republican senators had pressed mcconnell to force the senate to stick around. >> we'll be on health care next week. therefore, we'll be in session the first two weeks of august. >> as long as this bill continues to cut taxes on the very wealthy and hurt working americans, the bill's going to be as unpopular as it is today. >> senator mitch mcconnell says he plans to unveil a revised health care bill tomorrow. iowa republican senator charles grassley says he's, quote, very pessimistic senators will be able to settle their differences. >> happening today, uc regents are meeting in san francisco to give final approval to an $813

million budget. it includes new cost controls like a minimum 10% reduction in ploimy traveling. four new regents are joining the board and there's also a new chair who says his top priority is to improve relationships. >> east bay mud officials have approved a water rate hike despite opposition from customers. they'll pay 9.25% more for water effective immediately. the 1.5 million users then face another 9% increase next summer. that means the average family home will see their bills increase by more than $4 a month each of the next two years and some people not so happy. >> it's an injustice for us for them to keep raising the rates. you know, it's just not fair. >> east bay mud says the hike is needed because the district lost revenue when people conserved water during the drought. the additional money will also pay for infrastructure improvements. >> a vandalized water tank in novato should be back in business by the weekend.

crewed finished draining it late yesterday. what a waste. thousands of gallons of water had to be dumped after someone broke into the tank. officials just didn't want to take a chance that the water may have been contaminated even though tests did not turn up contaminants. >> new details. a former operator of the dry docks alt pier 70 has agreed to a nearly $5 million settlement with the port of san francisco. the money will help fund improvements needed to track a new operator for the facility. it comes less than two minutes after the ship facility closes because of a legal dispute between the two companies that operate the shipyard. >> right now at the live desk, we're tracking confirmation hearings for president trump's pick to lead the fbi. i want to show you these live images coming in from the senate hearing. it just got under way. christopher wray just got there moments ago. here he is in the purple tie. he's expected to face a series of questions about the russia investigation, national security, and how he would prioritize and enforce civil rights. the firing of the former fbi

because of all the skaters. this informal skating competition drew hundreds of people to dolores park last night. there were some big falls, at least two skaters were taken to the hospital after they hit the pavement. some of those participants were not wearing helmets. police say some people threw objects at them. two police cars were damaged. you can see where their windows were broken out. dolores street was reopened around 9:00 when police got the situation dispersed. no arrests were made. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield. >> thank you. we think you have to look at the screen, at this woman that chp in santa rosa says stole from kids. she's accused of using a counterfeit $100 bill at a school bake sale. the high school students were selling baked goods to raise money for their music program monday in front of oliver's market. investigators say this woman bought several items and paid with a fake $100. she got $80 in change. a student realized that bill was

fake and tried to top the lady, but she sped off in what appeared to be a dark older honda with custom rims. the woman described as 5'6", 225 pounds with a tattoo on her left forearm. >> video of thieves ripping off a cvs on columbus parkway. the four women entering the store at 9:50 monday night. police say they were after allergy products. they took off in a charcoal gray nissan altima with blue paper plates. >> an elementary school vandalized in east oakland is asking for your help in raising $7,000 for repairs. acorn woodland elementary created a go fund me page after someone broke in saturday. it will take months to replace windows and set up security cameras. the principal says he believes former students damaged the school. the school has raised more than $4,000 now of its $7,000 goal. if you would like to donate, we have set up a link on our website, abc7news.com.

officials in manchester just voted to make ariana grande an honorary citizen because of what she did after the deadly terrorist attack back in may. a statement from one official in that city says, quote, the city responded with strength and that, quote, ariana grande exemplified that response. the singer organized a massive concert fund-raiser in manchester memory of the victims shortly after the attack. the concert was broadcast worldwide. the entire attack killed 22 people, many of those children. reggie. >> thank you. >> a man who witnessed a violent beating at a b.a.r.t. station took matters into his own hands. casey says he rode b.a.r.t. from his home in lafayette to san francisco yesterday morning. he says what he saw at the train station on montgomery street shocked him. >> witnessed a tall man striking anothr man with a cane, and he's. just going to town on this guy, yelling for help, rolled up in

the fetal position, and nobody is helping him. >> casey says he chased the attacker then tackled him. construct workers helped tie the man's hands and kept him down until police got there. no word yet on a motive for the attack. >> this morning, boaters are told to avoid an 1100-foot safety zone around the areas where crews are still recovering a sunking barge. the barge sank several months ago in a storm. salvage crews began removing it yesterday. two pieces remain. one is setting on top of the transbay tube, which carries b.a.r.t. trains between oakland and san francisco. the barge sank in april during a storm. crews hope to have the two remaining pieces out of the water by the end of the week. >> new details on governor brown's efforts to extend california's cap and trade program. it would be a tragedy for california and the world if it doesn't pass. cap and trade requires companies to buy permits to release greenhouse gases. some democrats say it's too friendly to the industry.
