live where you live, this is abc 7 news. >> cell phone video shows an impromptu skate boarding competition and it all ends up in chaos. several skaters and one police officer got hurt. so the question right now, was this handled correctly? police are looking into the situation. thanks for joining us. >> kristen is off. skate borders say it was handled poorly, police meanwhile say that they just wanted to keep everyone safe. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live with the newest information and how those victims are doing, amy. >> reporter: hi jessica. there's a lot of cell phone vid grow last night, but there's one clip that has a lot of people upset. it's when a skate border and a

police officer collide. some people point to that moment as when things got tense. watch as a police officer and skate border collide on delores street last night during an informal skate boarding competition that drew hundreds to the park. watch again in slow motion, some were outraged saying it looks like the officer sticks his arm out causing him to call. then a police spokesman says it is hard to tell. what they know is they collided. and the officer was taken to the hospital with a shoulder injury. police say they tried to offer aid to the skater, but couldn't find him in the crowd. police were called when people complained that skaters had taken over delores street and cars couldn't get through. it turned into a standoff. police in riot gear say skaters were throwing things and yelling. one nearby resident heard what was happening but didn't to want go outside. >> skate borders brought out like a huge force of cops. so it was just fascinating.

>> reporter: two police cars were damaged with graffiti and a broken window. >> it bothered me that the -- there was another police car that was vandalized, there was trash, like the back windows was broken in. that, to me, is excessive. that's not necessary at all. so that disturbed me. >> reporter: there was one major injury. a skater almost makes it down the hill, and then crashes. witnesses say he was motionless and bleeding. police say he was taken to the hospital, but expected to survive. >> not scared, but concerned for the guy that was injured. and it was pretty -- it looked pretty fun, but dangerous at the same time. >> reporter: police haven't heard about his condition changing today and that that's a good sign. they think he's going to be okay. the police officer was treated and released from the hospital. no arrests were made. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank you. developing news now in the

south bay, firefighters continue to battle a fire in the san jose foothills, now this started yesterday afternoon and now stands at 101 acres and 50% containment. abc 7 news reporter tiffany wilson live at that house destroyed by the flames, tiffany. >> reporter: yes, hi, this was the only house destroyed. two others were damaged and the family that lives in the house just arrived a little bit ago. they were able to salvage a box or two, but that's about it. years of memories now reduced to smokey and soaking wet rubble. this husk of a house clings to the hillside. the rest of it was consumed in yesterday's fast-moving wild fire. >> i spoke with the son last night, and very unfortunate circumstances, but grateful they're able to get out with nobody being harmed. >> reporter: he lives across the street. fire poured down the hillside behind his home. it stopped just 20 feet away. >> we went back there and i think it was starting to sink in that very, very fortunate that

somehow, that it skipped our house. with the degree of burning in the backyard, i don't know how it could have skipped. >> reporter: his wife is expecting their first baby next month. >> my moms says we should move back to indiana. but that's my mom. >> reporter: sbiert neighborhood is grate to feel firefighters for their hard work yesterday. crews will be back out on the lines today. >> really, our objective for today is try to have our crews get 100% containment. >> reporter: about 30% of the burn area is in allen rock park. fwl closed today. although the winter rains helped ease the drought, the captain says they also added fuel to this fire season. >> there was heavier vegetation and it dries out just like it does every year. so it just creates a bigger problem for us. >> reporter: fire investigators are looking into the cause of this fire, so far, it is undetermined. live in san jose, tiffany wilson, abc 7 news. >> tiffany, thank you. firefighters in san leandro

are keeping an eye on a scam metal junk yard that went up in flames. it started before 5:00 yesterday evening on doolittle drive. shelter in place order was issued and people reported seeing the smoke as far away as cal state, east bay, and hayward. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. new this morning, alameda county firefighters are investigating after a fire burned through a business in newark. three trucks caught fire at 2:15 this morning outside the business on central avenue near timber street. flames spread to an exterior overhang, burning it. a sprinkler system prevented major damage inside and no one got hurt. now your accuweather forecast with mike nico. >> good morning, aye been tracking dangerous surf, at least the potential out at the coast. here's a look at santa cruz this morning, one of the calmer areas right now, starting to see more sunshine thanl the rest of us. here's a look at the beach forecast. ocean beach, 63 along with half-moon bay, monterrey bay 66 and 72 at santa cruz.

here's what i'm talking about. we have a beach hazard statement for this evening, especiallily and also santa cruz from large breaker, sneaker waves, and rip currents. that's the biggest issue. slightly calmer in you're playing on the bay and look at all that extreme sunshine if you're exercising. hundreds on the way in the forecast. i'll that have coming up next. this midday new developments on that recent nerve-racking landing at sfo it's now becoming clear how closely disaster may have been averted. this started friday night when an air canada jet nearly landed on a taxi way inl stead of a runway. four planes were waiting to take off. the transportation safety board of canada now says the jet flew just 100 feet above two of those waiting planes, and get this, it came within 29 feet to the side of one of those waiting planes. these are preliminary findings. the faa and ntsb are also trying to figure it out. >> if those numbers hold up, that is stunning. members of congress are moving forward with a plan to get the west coast ready for the

next big earthquake. house panel is expected to propose and restore more than $10 million in federal funding for an early warning system. this is something president trump does not want to spend any money on and slash from his own budget proposal. republican and democratic lawmakers tell the l.a. times, seismologists have made too much progress to stop now. limited public operation of the early warning system is scheduled for next year. new morning, governor jerry brown is joining forces with michael bloomberg in a coast to coast climate initiative called america's pledge. the program will track the country's efforts to reduce carbon emissions as was planned before president trump withdrew from the paris climate agreement. brown released a statement saying, quote today, we're sending a clear message to the world that america's states, cities, and businesses are moving forward with the krnltd's commitments under the paris agreement with or without washington. president trump will skip his planned visit to lon dhon year.

welcome back, heads up for parents. letting your child visit trampoline parks. the warning comes after a florida toddler was badly injured. >> reporter: this is three-year-old colton hill. right after breaking his fe mur bone jumping at an indoor trampoline park. >> no mother, no father, ever wants to see their child the way that we had to see colton. >> reporter: mom caitlin posted the photo on facebook showing him in his body cast. his doctor told her the american academy of pediatrics recommends children under the age of six never use a trampoline. >> we were shocked because this indoor trampoline park specifically advertises for young children. >> reporter: colton had his accident at sky zone trampoline park in tampa. in a statement, the company said, quote, our thoughts and prayers are with the injured child and his family. guest safety is the top priority and we are investigating how an incident of this nature might have occurred.

it's not just young children who get injured using trampolines. the consumer product safety commission estimates more than 100,000 people were treated in hospital emergency rooms for trampoline-related injuries in 2015. it's also aware of a total of 21 deaths between 2009 and 2013. in the last five years, the number of trampoline parks in the u.s. has risen from 35 to over 600. most facilities require you to sign a waiver before jumping. as of now though, there are no federal regulations for trampoline parks, but the industry has put together a set of voluntary safety standards. >> we do offer education and training to make sure that individuals responsible for maintaining and operating the parks are qualified to do so. >> colton's mom says she decided to share her son's story in hopes that others will think twice before letting their toddlers jump. >> thanks.
