live where you live, this is "abc 7 news." ♪ new at 11:00, a major milestone for san francisco's billion dollar central subway project. tonight "abc 7 news" went deep underground for a first look at the station that will some day be filled, of course, with commuters. good evening, i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. one of the stations in the central subway project is getting its first pour of concrete. >> and once completed in 2019, muni metro service will be extended all the way into chinatown. >> "abc 7 news" reporter cornell bernard joins us live. cornell. >> reporter: ama, dan, project managers calling this a real milestone. concrete being poured at this muni station. you'd never know it but hundreds of workers below stockton street tonight making it happen.

we saw it all, but getting there wasn't easy. 70 cement mixers were lined up around union scare for the big pour, and it is all happening deep below the earth. >> reached the bottom, and we're -- today we're pouring, an all-day pour. >> that noise is tons of cement being pumped down from stockton street to the platform level of the future union square station on the central subway line. >> hundreds of people working underground. you can see yourself walking in here, you don't see much activity on the surface with the exception of the trucks lined up. >> reporter: reporting this story took some leg work, up and down ladders and across cat walks. our escort said, don't look down. >> told us we would need ear plugs down here and they were right. so loud, 100 feet underground. check this out. this is 700 cubic yards of concrete being poured looks like. these workers not taking breaks. they will be at it for at least

the next five hours. >> reporter: this animation shows what the union square station will look like when it is done. a dispute between mta and the contractor could delay opening of the project by 10 months, 1019. it is now a game of catchup. >> we are working extremely hard with the contractor to ensure we can make up the time. >> reporter: those that work and shop around union square home for the day when stockton street is reopened. >> i know it is confusing for tourists right now, they're like, i don't know where to go. >> reporter: when trains start rolling, the $1.6 billion subway project will take riders from 4th and king streets to chinatown. in san francisco, cornell bernard, "abc 7 news." our other top story tonight, for the first time san francisco's police chief is responding to the tense standoff between skaters and officers. >> as we told you last night right here on "abc 7 news," it happened at delores park. "abc 7 news" reporter leslie brinkley in the newsroom with new developments tonight. >> reporter: that's right, dan. there are video clip also of skad boarders wiping out, video

of a skateboarder colliding with an officer and flipping over a patrol car. police say they're sorting through that video and body cam video from the officers at delores park. >> this happened tuesday night as skateboarders sped downhill in these unpermitted street races at delores park. that's the editor of a skateboarding magazine who ended up needing staples in his head. police say emergency crews couldn't get through to help him. witnesses called police, complaining of skate boarders grabbing on to cars for a lift up the hill. when officers arrived, they say the crowd started throwing things at them. this witness saw them hurling cans of red bull and food, and thought the riot gear was excessive. >> i saw skateboarders going down the sidewalk and the street, and they were just having fun, screaming, hollering and laughing and just cheering each other on. >> it is unlawful to prevent medical personnel from responding to the scene,

especially if someone needs medical attention. it is unlawful to travel down the street in the wrong direction of traffic. there were bottles being thrown at officers, skateboards being thrown at the patrol cars to break the windows. >> boom! >> oh. >> reporter: then later there is this video, a skateboarder colliding with an officer and flipping over the patrol car, both were hurt, the officer with shoulder injuries. the injured skateboarder left without going a statement. some criticize the officer on social media for appearing to put his elbow in front of the speeding skateboarder. >> there's a lot of information out there we need to look at. there's a lot of videos as well as we have body cam videos we still need to sort through. >> i found the video somewhat disturbing. >> reporter: although there were no arrests, the clash came up at tonight's police commission meeting. the investigation into that clash is just ramping up. in san francisco, i'm leslie brinkley, "abc 7 news." firefighters from across marin county limited this fire

to about 25 acres. it broke out near point reys petaluma road and red hill road. cal fire aircraft helped stop flames from advancing, which helped firefighters on the ground. no buildings were ever threatened. and now to the latest on this brush fire in san jose that gutted a home yesterday, as you can see. tonight fire crews are still at the scene. they're watching for hot spots just in case. drone view 7 shows the destruction from the fire that's now 75% contained. three firefighters were hurt battling the flames near a ala marock park in the sunset hills neighborhood. at least 120 acre vibrant soundbridge burned so far and neighbors say it is all terrifying. >> i saw these flames shooting 20 feet in the air, and the first thing i could think of is how am i going to get out of here alive. >> evacuation orders for nearly a dozen homes were lifted late last night. the calls of the fire has yet to be determined. new tonight, caught red handed on camera, a thief who

broke into a home in santa cruz managed to make a clean get away. he is wearing a hoody but you can clearly see his face as he looks around, unaware of the camera. he steals several items including cash. this happened on sunday. the sheriff's office posted this video on facebook hoping someone recognizes the man and gives them a call. an air canada jet may have been closer to triggering a massive disaster at sfo than anyone originally believed. that jet flew toward four planes lined up on a taxi way missing one plane by 100 feet. up to 1,000 people were put in danger. air traffic controllers ordered the air canada pilots to abort their landings. it is now being investigated. >> any number of factors can contribute. it could be crew fatigue, proximity of airport lighting. >> investigators still haven't pulled the black boxes from the air canada jet to learn what happen in the cockpit. new at 11:00, an iconic san

jose deli is getting ready to shut its doors. it was slapped with a lawsuit claiming it is not in compliance with state disability laws. the attorney who filed the lawsuit has done this many times before. "abc 7 news" reporter katie utehs is live in san jose tonight. katie, he has a long history of filing these suits. >> reporter: dan, he does. the owner of the deli has notified his customers that he will have to close down starting saturday, will be the last day. we learned tonight that at least four other businesses in this older part of san jose have received complaints from this same sacramento-based attorney. the facade of san jose's time deli has been frozen in time. >> 1950. >> reporter: as you see from this newspaper clipping, but told building is a problem. >> i get a letter in the mail saying that i'm getting sued, and i looked at it. i didn't understand it. >> reporter: a sacramento-based lawyer says the parking lot striping and small bathroom stalls do not meet the standards

of the americans with disabilities act. >> to pull permits to put this stuff in, this building has been here since 1949. it is going to take a lot of money to restructure, to redo a lot of things. >> owner donald berg says he doesn't have to money so he is closing the deli. neeshl calderon tires, the falafel drive in received complaints from attorney scott johnson. we told you about him last summer when he sued an east bay gas station. he filed thousands kplaf of complaints. our attempts to reach johnson were unsuccessful. the state's disability advocacy group says unfortunately the only way to get ada compliance is through individual suits. >> because the ada does not require states to have inspectors to enforce the law, we think this would help if there were inspectors. >> reporter: time deli will continue to cater and soon open a food truck. in san jose, katie utehs, "abc 7
