close. the plane had four passengers. the sonoma county sheriff's office has confirmed that one person is dead. the three other passengers were transported to local hospitals via helicopters. now, immediately after the crash, fire and emergency medical personnel were brought in. the crash site we are told was 258 san louis road. it's today early to say what caused the plane to crash, we have no idea if it had engine trouble or anything like that. that's something that the faa will investigate. we're told also that investigators are on the scene -- well, no, sorry, that they are on the way to the scene. now, we're here at children's hospital, again, because we were told that the children were transported to this hospital, but again no confirmation from

from drone view 7 you can see the devastation. this lafayette building that was home to a restaurant, other businesses and the chamber of commerce is now a shell of what it once was. >> it's real sad to see. >> vivian andrews is a therapist who rented space here. >> actually imagined climbing down that redwood tree. how would i have gotten out of there? >> reporter: luckily no one was inside the building when it caught fire, though bright red flames and smoke threatened residents who lived in apartments next door. >> i saw nothing but flames through my window. >> reporter: the fire was visible from pittsburg, 15 miles away. fire investigators say people reported hearing a loud boom. that may have been propane tanks bursting. one of the biggest concerns is that what's left of the building could collapse. >> the wall on this corner is essentially being supported by the tree. the wall on the back side there is leaning in and the structural supports for the interior second in regard elemen

office tells us a 57-year-old man called 911 saying that he had shot his 60-year-old female roommate. sheriff's deputies arrived at the residents within minutes. the shooter was taken into custody without incident. >> there's been no arrest made in this case. right now he's considered a person of interest. it is an ongoing investigation. >> reporter: the victim who has not been identified was found inside the home earlier with one gunshot wound. she was taken to a local hospital but later died. sky 7 gives us an aerial view of the neighborhood this afternoon. the shooter and the victim were the only ones at the property when the shooting took place. residents are stunned, saying it all hits too close to home. >> i was mind blown because i lived here like five years and i've never once seen anything crazy occur in my neighborhood. >> reporter: investigators have spent the day gathering and processing evidence. detectives going door to door interviewing neighbors as they try to piece together what led up to the shoot.

the motive, still unclear. >> wherever you go, whatever you do, you walk with your eyes open all the time. and it can happen anywhere. >> reporter: a tragedy that has rocked this south bay community. in saratoga, chris nguyen, abc 7 news. this woman faces murder charges after san jose police say she stabbed a man during an argument. amber gerkin knew the 60-year-old victim. they say she stabbed him on south 2nd street on sunday. she's being held without bail. some new developments in the search for richard moss, a 22-year-old san mateo man. he vanished without a trace on his way to work more than a month ago. >> he was last seen heading into the devil slide tunnel south of pacifica. today a possible clue was found near mon tara state beach. jonathan bloom is live with what was found. jonathan. >> reporter: well, larry and ama, until now the only evidence searchers had found was moss's aaa card found by a neighbor walking here on this beach about

two weeks ago. but today's discovery points to a much simpler tragedy than the theories of carjacking, murder and kidnapping that had been floated around. instead evidence was found today that leads searchers to believe that moss may have taken a fatal plunge off the side of the road down those steep cliffs off in the distance. >> i don't want it to be his car, but if it is, it is. >> reporter: word spread quickly to the volunteers who have spent weeks searching for richard moss. an early morning dive turned up grim evidence. >> that was one of the lowest tides and we found a hyundai wheel made in korea, specifically to the tiburon and a fuel tank wedged in the sand line. >> divers took photos, then gave the wheel to the sheriff's office. they say it matches the wheels in these pictures of the blue hyundai moss was driving when he disappeared. >> the wheel itself was sheared off with the disk brake rotor intact. one might guess that the car hit

rear first, sheared off the fuel tank and one of the rear wheels and then floated out. >> reporter: divers swam out to mark the spot where the fuel tank is lodged in the rocks. they'll returning at low tide to look for the rest of the car. in the meantime the sheriff's office won't draw conclusions. >> we have found other car parts in other locations that we have confirmed to not belong to his vehicle, so because of that, we don't want to speculate to anything yet. >> reporter: if it is moss's car, volunteers think this is where it flew off the pavement. a small chunk is missing from the low stone wall that separates the winding road from the rocky cliffs. from his home in hawaii, moss's father told us he'll wait for official confirmation. volunteers say they won't call off the search until then. >> if his son was in that car, then he could put closure to this. the family can have peace. if not, it's going to continue. >> reporter: at montara state beach, jonathan bloom, abc 7 news. the highway patrol eis tryig to figure out why a big rig

carrying tons of mail went off the road in napa county. it overturned after hitting a power pole on northbound highway 29 in american canyon around 4:30 this morning. as you can see, firefighters helped unload the truck's pay load of envelopes and packages. all lanes reopened around 9:00 this morning. the truck driver escaped with only minor injuries. here's a look at live doppler 7 showing that fog is building along the coastline right now after a day that was partly sunny along the coast and certainly sunny over inland areas. this is the growing marine layer from sutro tower. it's pushing out over parts of the bay. it's 64 here in san francisco, 67 in oakland, mountain view 74, 80 san jose, 85 gilroy, 62 at half moon day. this is the view at the golden gate where it's getting foggier and foggier. 81 at santa rosa and fairfield, mid to upper 70s at napa and novato. 88 in livermore. this is the source of our heat down in the desert southwest. look at the temperatures now,

108 in phoenix, 112 in palm springs and that hot air is moving our direction and will bring our high temperatures up to the 100-degree level over the weekend. a heat advisory is in effect from 8:00 a.m. saturday until 9:00 p.m. sunday for all of the higher elevations of the east bay and south bay. i'll give you a closer look at the seven-day forecast in just a few minutes. all evacuation orders have been listed for the wildfire in butte county. the fire has burned more than 6,000 acres and destroyed 41con. the cause remains under investigation. the winters fire is now 100% contained. the 2200-acre wildfire began last thursday. that cause is still under investigation. no structures were destroyed. four firefighters, though, had minor injuries. a group of san francisco civil servants competed for one of the city's most coveted titles today, cable car bell ringing champion.

santa cruz officials are renewing a warning to diehard surfers. you could get fined if you don't get out of the water. the city imposed a ban in the area where a great white shark attacked a kayaker earlier this week. abc 7 news reporter janine della vega has our story. >> reporter: plenty of surfers hit the waves this morning, pretty close to the same spot where a shark took a bite out of a kayak earlier this week. >> is it in the back of your mind when you're out there? >> no. i'm just really cold. my toes are cold. that's all i'm thinking about. >> reporter: surfers are ignoring the ban the city put in effect on tuesday. no one is allowed in the water

within a mile of steamers lane. surfers say sharks have always been in the water and fear is not a factor. some came as early as 5:00 a.m. >> if you're always focused on that, you're going to spend a lot of time on your couch finding reasons not to do what you love to do, but i don't think either of us are doing anything except honoring the animals that are in there, the grizzly bears of the sea. i'm not seeing any dorsal fins. >> surf stores are seeing less customers. at nearby restaurants, employees are also noticing a downturn. >> it's probably decreased by about half. now that we're going into the weekend, it may pick up, but it may not. >> reporter: some tourists came into town not knowing they weren't allowed into the water until they saw the warning signs. >> it scared me a little bit but that was after i went in the water. >> you just dipped your feet in? >> yeah, pretty much. >> reporter: anyone violating

the ban risks getting a $200 fine. the ban is in effect until saturday morning, so businesses should start seeing relief by then. reporting from santa cruz, janine de la vega. the transit hub will now be known as the salesforce transit center. salesforce, which is also behind a new tower complex adjacent to the transit hub will may over $100 million over 25 years for the naming rights. it includes a rooftop park is scheduled to open next year. adobe is planning a major expansion. the software giant announced it plans to develop a fourth tower at its downtown san jose headquarters. the tower will be at 333 west san fernando street. 3,000 employees will be able to work at the new building. adobe was the first major technology company to invest in downtown san jose more than 20 years ago. tesla seems to be gearing up to officially release its new model 3 later this month.

the coastline. it's going to expand across the bay and perhaps push locally inland. this is the view of the developing marine layer from mt. tam. you can see lots of blue sky above the layer of fog there. we'll see foggy conditions near the coast and bay overnight. warmer in most areas with triple digit heat that larry mentioned in our inland areas. right now we're looking at about a 28-degree range of temperatures from 62 at half moon bay to tonight in brentwood. that's the warmest reading we have at the moment. overnight we'll see rather widespread fog with low temperatures mainly in the mid to upper 50s. this is the pattern the fog will follow, at which point we'll see lots of fog, perhaps reduced visibility. notice how it starts to pull back to the bay and the coast by 9:00 a.m. we'll have a bit reaching out over the bay. by noon tomorrow the fog will be back at the coastline where it belongs and we'll have sunny skies over the bay and inland with high temperatures up around 90 degrees or more.

look for highs of 92 at fairfield, antioch, livermore tomorrow. 91 at concord. the inland east bay will be the warmest region. lake port will hit 96 and cloverdale 93. most locations around the bay will be in the upper 70s to near 80. on the coast, breezy but mild with high temperatures in the low to mid-60s. now let's move along and take a look at santa cruz beach which is a good spot to look at as we go to the beach forecast for tomorrow. we'll have relatively mild conditions with most beach locations topping out in the low 60s tomorrow. santa cruz will top out at 77, so expect clouds in the morning, sun in the afternoon and there's a rip current risk as the surf is a little bit rough. on saturday we'll see temperatures continuing to rise especially in our inland areas, mainly upper 90s to near 100. heat advisory in effect saturday and sunday. the peak of the heating will be on sunday as numerous inland locations top out at 100 degrees or higher. what we can expect with this heat advisory is inland highs

happening in there. nine businesses along lafayette circle were destroyed. damage estimated at just over $1 million. there are new developments in a case out of a philadelphia suburb where four young men disappeared. a man in jail in bucks county has committed to killing all four missing men and told authorities the location of their bodies. cause me dinardo's lawyer said his client agreed to plead guilty to all four murders. >> in exchange for that confession, mr. dinardo was promised by the district attorney that he will spare his life by not invoking the death penalty. >> investigators have founding the four bodies. they have identified one as 19-year-old dean finocchiaro. they still have to identify thomas meo, mark sturgis and jimmy patrick. it's not clear what the motive may have been. the philadelphia enquirer said one went to high school with him and two others met him when he was looking to sell marijuana.

president trump is in paris meeting with french president emmanuel macron and questions about donald trump jr.'s dealings with russia followed him there. emily is live in washington with the latest. >> reporter: larry, after months of denials that his campaign staff had any dealings with russia, president trump is now changing his tune, defending donald junior's meeting. >> i think from a practical standpoint, most people would have taken that meeting. >> reporter: president trump had three very clear talking points when responding to the inevitable question about donald junior's meeting with a russian lawyer with reported ties to the kremlin. >> it lasted for a very short period and nothing came of the meeting. >> reporter: at a joint press conference, the president said repeatedly the meeting was short and nothing came of it. details that haven't been independently verified, but will likely be the focus of various russia investigations. >> i think it's a meeting that most people in politics probably would have taken. >> reporter: but on wednesday, the president's nominee for fbi

medicaid program so that they can actually deliver better care at a lower cost. >> a senate vote could come next week. all of the senate's 46 democrats and two independents oppose the efforts. it hinges on 50 of the 52 republicans voting for it. congress took a big step toward the largest expansion of the gi bill in a decade. their vision is aimed to allow more veterans to attend college after serving their country. it includes getting rid of a 15-year time limit to cash in on benefits. military reservists and national guard members would see more money. this isn't a done deal. another vote will take place next week. a bay area congresswoman plans to lead a women bearing sleeveless dresses.

washington community center and playground is expected to open to families by mid-august. >> all right. it's time to check on our weather and how hot it's going to get. >> oh, this weekend. >> it's coming our way, the heat is. right now we're looking at a little fog at the coast an sunny skies over the inland areas, mild to warm conditions. overnight low temperatures will drop into mid-50s for most of the bay area. tomorrow we'll see sunny skies and even partly sunny skies at the coastline where it will be breezy and relatively mild. we'll see highs at the coast in the low to mid-60s right around the bay, mid to upper 70s, up to 80 in some spots. inland, low 90s for the most part but that will change over the weekend and get a bit hotter. a heat advisory is in effect for the higher elevations of the east bay and south bay from 8:00 a.m. saturday to 9:00 p.m. sunday. it's going to be pretty toastly. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. notice on saturday and sunday inland highs will be right around or above 100 degrees but only mid to upper 80s around the

7 star scholar's james coleman's. so is playing the piano. competitive swimming. >> what's your favorite stroke? >> breaststroke. i'm a breaststroke. >> reporter: and fighting to protect our planet. >> my environmental passion when i was pretty young. i just was outdoors a lot, and that's something that i cherish and valued. when i learned about climate change, that's something that is irreversible compared to other social issues. i think it is something that's really urge engt for us. >> reporter: james is a leader at south san francisco high school, valedictorian, student government and countless clubs. but it's off this south city campus he feels he's made the most impact. >> ace, which stands for alieps for climate education. it's a coalition of high school students around the bay area who meet together and fight for climate justice. >> reporter: most recently this ace fellow took part in the kids versus trump march in san francisco in may to support young people fighting for their right to a clean environment and stable climate.

not so how do you know what's real and what isn't. lyanne melendez shows us the tools some students are using. >> reporter: the video shows a soldier with a kurdish militia group known at wpg fighting against isis in syria. while it was released by the group's press office, how do we know it's authentic? >> go directly to the website. >> reporter: welcome to the uc berkeley school of law's human rights investigations lab. these students make it their mission to authenticate videos and photos coming from the ground in conflict zones. >> this is the age of fake news. and there's a whole lot that comes on social media that we do not know it's origins or whether it's authentic. >> reporter: videos are pictures sent over the internet may be altered for propaganda purposes. >> the one thing this project will teach you is you need to take everything with a grain of salt. >> reporter: the origin can be traced through online sites.

and using geolocation, they're able to compare a photo to a satellite image of the area. >> for example, if there's a mosque that we can see, can we locate that mosque through satellite imagery to establish that the town where this was supposedly taken is in fact that town. >> reporter: if it's authentic, it will be archived as a factual record to be used by human rights groups. there are four of these centers at universities around the world. pretoria in south africa, essex, toronto, and of course uc berkeley. with a fifth, came bridbridge, g in the fall. last month students from those universities attended a summit at uc berkeley to expand their knowledge and advance their collaboration. cal alone has trained 75 students so far, fluent in 18 languages. they are currently focusing on central america, africa, burma, syria and even here in the u.s.

crashes with deadly results. one person was killed, three others, including two children, were hurt. thanks for joining us, i'm kristen sze. >> i'm larry beil in for dan ashley. the plane crashed south of sonoma not far from the sonoma sky park airport. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard is live in sonoma with the latest. cornell? >> reporter: larry, kristen, here is what we know. we are about 150 yards from this crash scene where that single engine plane crashed just before 1:00 this afternoon killing one person onboard. investigators and the sonoma county sheriff's office as well as the coroner is here on scene. the sonoma county sheriff's department said the plane took off from the sonoma sky park about 12:45 and crashed about 1,000 feet from the runway. take a look at some video that was shot just moments ago. four people were onboard. we understand that one person was killed, three others were injured. we h
