zbliefrmt good teamwork. excellent response. >> abc 7 news. a witness praises rescue crews who rushed to save three boaters who went overboard in the rough waters on the bay. good evening. i'm kate larson in for eric thomas. rescue crews were able to save a child and two adults who went overboard when their boat capsized. all three are now at stanford hospital, and that's where abc 7 news reporter lonnie riviera is live tonight with the story you'll only see on abc 7. lonnie. >> reporter: yes, kate. we're hearing that they launched the boat from fremont. we're also hearing it was two adults and one child. all of them brought here, treated for hypothermia. they're going to be okay, we're hearing, but they're being checked out for any further

injuries. >> a coast guard chopper lifted one boater who was stranded in the choppy, chilly bay water near cooley landing in east palo alto. once it landed, one victim gave officials a thumbs up. menlo park fire and other emergency officials responded to the call saturday evening. >> i saw all the fire trucks coming in. the police, and i saw them wheeling in this strange boat. >> once they reached the open water and wind and the wind waves started coming in immediately into the boat and capsized their boat. >> as the coast guard chopper carried all three victims to shore, a friend in a kayak helped too. >> basically the three victims that were in the water held on to the kayak. the person in the kayak notified 911, and the coast guard. >> martin watched the team of responders come together. she's happy it ended with lives saved. >> i was very impressed with the rescue. i mean, it was very efficient. they all showed up.

heat advisory still in effect until tomorrow night. at 9:00 for all areas you see shaded in ork. that means there's an increased risk of heat related illness. it's not only the warm temperatures. it's the gusty winds as well. the very low humidity. there's a high fire danger in effect with a red flag warning until tomorrow night as well. especially in our hilltops. the areas you see shaded in red. we'll talk about how hot we're going to get tomorrow afternoon and when we'll see this heat wave break coming up in that full accuweather forecast. >> thanks, drew. developing news tonight as the largest of 11 active wildfires in the state now stands at nearly 50,000 acres. nearly 1,400 firefighters and national guard members are battling the fire in kings county in the central valley. at last report the fire was 64% contained.

cam fire says it is 35% cabed. 8,000 firefighters are trying to keep the fire away from other homes. >> just getting ready in case they need to do any kind of burning operation should the fire come out of the hills into the front country. >> it's been a week since this fire started. officials have told more than 2,700 people to evacuate. to developing news on the republicans' latest health care reform bill. tonight senate majority leader mitch mcconnell says he is going to delay the vote on the measure. the senate leader had planned action on the controversial bill next week, but senator john mccain today said he would be staying in arizona following surgery for a blood clot. that put the measure in jeopardy in the closely divided senate. republicans can afford to only lose two of their party's votes if they want to get this bill

passed. >> it happened on meadow lane just before 8:00. according to police, the driver hit a pedestrian before slamming into a parked car >> right now you are looking at the aftermath of a fiery crash that sent four people to the hospital in concorde. two of those victims suffered burns to their legs. at least two cars collided along southbound interstate 680 near monument boulevard. it took nearly an hour to clear the wreckage from the freeway. our news reporter joins us now to explain.

neighbors tell us they're concerned because there have been several shootings in the area over the past few weeks. gunfire near uc berkeley injured three people. it was south of the uc berkeley campus. shots were fired around 2:45 this morning. two groups had been arguing, and their dispute turned violent. arrested two people. an early morning break-in at the gucci store in union square may have cost more in damages than it did in stolen goods. police say someone rammed a vehicle into the store just before 3:00 a.m. the inch thick triple lamb nant glass doors and window collapsed leaving the thief free to make off with thousands of dollars worth of purses. that left would-be shoppers out of luck for much of the day. >> i was hoping to get a gucci belt. my grandma looked it up in the hotel room and everything. >> i'm actually shocked, and obviously something untowards

prestigious fields medal has died after a long battle with breast cancer. miriam specialized in theoretical mathematic where's. she had deep implications in -- the iranian-born mathematician joined stanford in 2008 as a professor. she was 40 years old and is survived by a husband and daughter. hundreds of people from all backgrounds march through sacramento to help ene empower african-american women. the march finished with a rally outside the state capitol. organizers say they want black women to play a role at the forefront of conversations about social issues. >> they were inspired to hold black women's marches for what they say is a lack of diversity at the women's march in sacramento back in january.

drone video gives us a look at what's being done to reconstruct the damage main spillway at the dam. this video was released this week. you can see construction crews pumping in concrete to form the new foundation and drainage system for the spillway. the contractor has a november 1st deadline to finish all that work. you might recall how badly the spillway was damaged during this past winter's record storms. the zaeser led to the massive erosion on the hillside and forced the sudden evacuation of some 180,000 residents down diagnosis stream. >> work will begin monday on a stretch of road in contra costa county that washed away during the winter storms. morgan territory road is closed from the area north of livermore to the area east of clayton. the section just south of marsh creek road was damaged by a landslide in february. crews will work to install new retaining walls and improve drainage systems, put in a new water main and repave the road. the road is expected to remain closed through mid-october. now to developing news in

florida where a sinkhole that swallowed a boat and destroyed two homes stopped growing. officials now saying it has not had any significant movement recently. the ramirez family scrambling to safety, losing their home. >> it's emotional. i mean, what can you say? i mean, you wouldn't wish this on anyone. especially our neighbors. >> emergency officials taking us up to the very edge of the disaster area now filled with mud and toxic debris. >> there's a lot of hazardous material in here. there's fuels. there's septic tanks. there's household hazardous chemicals. >> this is the largest sinkhole to hit the county in at least three decades. as you take a look above from our drone, those people won't be able to return home for at least a week. today neighbors escorted home by
