at the moment woorb we did have all lanes blocked. it was scheduled to wrap up at 5:00 this morning. we didn't get the lanes back open until 5:45. as you can imagine, we had gridlock for about 4 1/2, 5 miles. we're down to about a 3-mile backup. but check out the speeds. crawling at about 4 miles per hour, up to around 21 miles per hour as you get closer to where the closure is and the lanes are now open. a really tough start. i would definitely start to 580. for a brief time, tractor trailers were allowed to use 580, but that's been lifted. a quick check of the toll plaza, the metering lights are on, so that's filling in. right now, let's check in with mike nicco. >> yeah, oh, i'm glad you didn't see that. hi, everybody. here's a look at live doppler 7. notice what you don't see, any cloud cover. it's going to make its way southward as we head to the afternoon and evening hours. it's kind of hazy from sutro

tower. your 12-hour day planner, 51 to 67. the upper temperatures, inland from 88 to 90. that's conservative at 4:00. low to mid 90s around, especially in the east bay. 58 to 60 is the coast. all of us in the 50s, 60s, and mainly 70s. >> breaking news out of san francisco. all lanes back open on southbound highway 101 near oyster point after a deadly crash. officers say the driver was giving a friend a ride home when he hit something. after dropping his passenger off in millbrae, he went back to the scene and didn't find anything. officers, though, found a body on the shoulder. chp says alcohol and drugs are not a factor but it's still not clear if the driver will be facing any charges. >> happening today, going to be tougher to get to work for some people in the east bay. a popular cut-through is getting shut down in less than an hour. >> morgan territory road needs major repairs and it's going to take months to do the work. amy hollyfield is live in

clayton this morning. amy. >> reporter: hi, natasha. here's the sign that spells out the bad news. this road is going to close today, not opening again until mid-october. this is why. they have to fix the damage done by the wet winter. public works officials say the contractor will be working six days a week to get this done. during that time, residents will be using a detour that could add an extra 15 to 30 minutes to their trip. an inveenls, but many here have a good attitude about it. >> we've been out here almost 50 years so we've seen a lot of different things on this road. so you know, we'll deal with it. we'll get through it. >> morgan territory road is a major cut-through to livermore and antioch from clayton. officials say this road has been shifting up to a foot a day. and it is just now stable enough for them to do the work. so they're going to be starting in less than an hour.

they're going to shut this down at 7:00. give yourself extra time for the next three months. reporting live in clayton, amy hollyfield. abc 7 news. >> thank you. a man drowned while trying to save his son in morgan hill. this happened yesterday in coyote creek near coyote creek trail between 101 and old monterey road. investigators say they were told a man went into the water to help kids and he didn't come out. firefighters describe the creek as have agfairly swift current and that victim's son is okay. >> developing news in san francisco. police are looking for a suspect who stabbed a store employee on market street. it all started shortly after 7:00 last night at nick's foods. police say a clerk tried to stop the suspect from shoplifting and that's when the person pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim who is expected to survive. investigators are looking through surveillance to try to i.d. the suspect. >> this 36-year-old woman is in jail now for kidnapping a baby from a car in san francisco. it happened yesterday morning of sherman street. police say the father was standing a short distance away

preparing a bottle when the woman reached inside the car and took the 6-month-old. she then took the baby on not one but two muni buses. police caught up with her 30 minutes after the first 911 call came in. our cameras were there when officers took her into custody. >> did you kidnap a baby? >> no, i don't kidnap babies. >> the baby's mother rushed to the scene. officers consoled her as she was runited with her child. the baby was then taken to the hospital to be checked out and no injuries were reported. the relationship between the baby's family and the suspect is still unknown. >> happening today, an assistant professor at usf who died last week in a plane crash will be remembered. he died on thursday when the small plane he was piloting crashed in sonoma. there will be a memorial service today. donations will go to the school where his two children go to school. the children and their nanny were also on the flight but survived and are recovering from their injuries.

the service stats at 10:00 this morning in san francisco. >> a driver faces accusations of drunk driving and car theft after several people were hurt in a head-on crash in eastern contra costa county. you can see where it happened. the impact crushed a minivan carrying seven people. highway patrol investigators say the driver of the stolen car was going the wrong way on westbound highway 4 when he hit the minivan. eight people got hurt, including as you can see two small suspe now in jail after being released from the hospital. >> a wildfire threatened several homes in antioch, and you're looking at cell phone video of all the smoke looming before a row of houses near highway 4. people first reported the fire at 6:30 last night and you can see the large flames. crews had the fire contained a little more than 40 minutes after it started. the fire burned about 30 acres. >> governor brown has issued an emergency promlication for santa

barbara county because of two fires there. it will make response and recovery funding available. the larger of the two fires started nine days ago. it's already destroyed 16 residences and 30 structures. >> the congressional budget office will not be releasing its analysis of the gop health care bill today as originally planned. that announcement came down yesterday from the senate budget committee although they did not give a reason for the postponement. it comes after senate majority leader mitch mcconnell said he would delay a vote this week on the bill, citing john mccain's eye surgery. the analysis is expected to include the cost and scope of the coverage. >> ann coulter versus delta airlines. >> if you have a so-called side hustle going on, you're going to wand to hear this. the warning from financial experts about all of the extra money you're earning. >> six minutes after 6:00, a live look outside as the sun comes up. comes up.

welcome back. and we are just getting an amber alert from california highway patrol that is affecting monterey county as well as santa clara and alameda counties. right now, they're looking for a 1-year-old little boy. hispanic little boy, about 2 feet tall, that was last seen in the back seat of a car wearing black and white t-shirt as well as gray pants. he has black hair and brown eyes. and here's what you want to watch out for. he was last seen in a white honda accord, a 1992 model.

they're looking for, and i'm going to read the license plate number because we don't have graphics available. but the license plate number, 6 rgb 061. this is an amber alert issued. they're looking for this one-year-old little boy in celisalina salinas, abducted from his home. if you do spot him and you should see the signs on the highway, please immediately call police. back to you. >> thank you. the close call for an air canada flight at sfo may have been even closer than originally reported. the national transportation safety board's preliminary report found that flight 759's altitude was below 100 feet during the july 7th a previous figure put the jet's altitude at 100 feet. it flew over a plane that was holding the texiway below. we have learned the ntsb investigators have arrived in the bay area as part of their review. >> delta airlines is firing back at ann coulter after her tweet

storm over a seat mixup. she called delta the worst airline in america. it happened on a friday from new york to florida. she said she was asked to move to another spot in the same row. she took a photo of the woman who took her seat and began a tirade against delta. the carriers responded saying it would refund her the $30 for the preferred seat and added her insults on other customers and employees were unacceptable and unnecessary. >> there are new questions this morning about the use of artificial sweeteners. a new study finds those sweeteners may actually make you gain weight. the study published in canadian american journal found over six months, there was no reduction in weight or body mass index, but in the long term, an average of ten years, the sweeteners could increase weight, bmi, and waist circumference, all of which could put you at risk for heart disease. >> we know from things called functional mris that in the brain, whether it's good old

it is 6:24. let me show you this crazy video. that is in fact an suv on top of a house. it crashed through the roof and thankfully no one was inside that house at the time. now, a witness says the driver was going at least 80 miles per hour when he t-boned a curb yesterday, he launched up an embankment and landed on top of that house. he said the driver never hit the brakes. the homeowner found the mess when he came back from the gym. the driver is now in critical condition. and officials don't know why he was speeding. >> thousands of young americans are investing in a plan designed

bay, mainly 70s inland. we'll show you more in the seven-day forecast. how about the morning commute? >> we finally started to calm down. we started off rough. we had a lot of issues but right now we're looking okay. driver times for the most part where they normally are. albany to the maze, a little heavy at 11 minutes. fremont to san jose in the green at 15, and northbound 280, you still look great in the green at 11 minutes. and a lot of bright sunshine on our san mateo camera. westbound 92 still mostly looking okay. we're almost back to normal southbound 880 through oakland following road work that went late. we'll head back there in less than ten. >> happening now, firefighters battling 13 wildfires across california hope cooler weather over the next few days is going to give them some help. our red flag warning issued by the national weather service expired last night at 9:00. firefighters were concerned anything could spark a wildfire. that's just what happened in vencura county. a car went off a highway and sparked a fast moving wildfire.

it started moving up a hillside toward homes. air tankers quickly went in to douse the flames. >> firefighters in san hose are investigating what kazzed this car fire that quickly spread to nearby brush. it was spotted around 4:00 yesterday morning. investigators are not sure if the car caught fire before the fire started or if it was left there afterwards. >> and people living in lake county are feeling the impact of a wildfire that broke out just yesterday, but it's miles away. the grade fire in mendocino county broke out around 3:00 p.m. yesterday. within hours, lake county dispatch was getting calls about smoke. it's burned 1,000 acres. it's just 10% contained this morning. >> happening today, work finally begins to repair a year-old sinkhole breaking the bank in one town. drivers in moraga have faced detours since the sinkhole opened last year. repairs had to wait until caltrans signed off on the

plans. part of the job includes replacing an eight-foot culvert. moraga has already spent millions on the sinkhole. two lanes of marine boulevard will be closed until october. >> new developments about the victims caught in deadly flash flooding at a popular arizona swimming spot. nine people are dead and they were all members of the same family there to celebrate a birthday. a woman caught the frightening scene on her phone. you can see the flash flood sending water, debris, and mud rushing down a mountain into the river below. witnesses say dozens of wimmers held on to whatever they could to stay alive. four people were rescued and flown to hospitals to be treated for hypothermia. >> i have been with the sheriff's office 13 years and this is the worst flash flood accident we've had. >> when it rains up here, it really pours. and it knocks down trees. >> at least one man is still missing this morning. that same area and across arizona remains under extreme weather threats with new flash flood watches in effect through

tonight. >> the u.s. coast guard has released video of a water rescue. a child and two adults were safely brought to shore. this video shows the coast guard rescuer swimming to the boat to attend to the victims. of them gives a thumbs up to his rescuers after being brought to shore. a kayaker is credited with helping the victims in the water by letting them hang to his kayak while he was calling 911. all three boaters were wearing life jackets. no word on why their boat capsized. >> new this morning, poll results that president trump and his supporters will likely not like. abc news and "washington post" asked people if they believe the president has acted in an unpresidential manner since taking office. sfenltd% say yes. 68 bers do not see him as a positive role model. and another abc news/"washington post" poll, only 36% of americans say they approve of his presidency and that's the lowest level in 70 years of presidential polling. 58% say they disapprove.

>> the city of oakland facing new controversy this morning as a report shows 80% of firefighters warnings about unsafe buildings have gone unchecked for years. according to our media partner, the bay area news group, firefighters have flagged 879 properties for potential safety risks since 2011. inspectors have not visited 615 of those sites for follow-ups. ocland's fire chief is blaming staffing. these revelations follow last year's deadly ghost ship fire that killed 36 people. the warehouse had been illegally converted to living spaces. >> b.a.r.t. is launching a program for clipper cards only. while you'll have to have the clipper card to get in, you'll still be able to use a paper ticket to get out. bartd will use the program to gauge public interest. let's talk about what's going to happen with your morning commute, at least weather wise. you can see a ton of sunshine.
