a terrifying reminder for parents to never leave your kids inside a car with the keys in the ignition. a 1-year-old baby was abducted early this morning. he's now safe and should be back with family any minute now. thanks for joining us. i'm jessica castro. kristen is off today. some scary moments for a family in monterrey county. a 1-year-old emiliano salinas went missing for hours but was found a short time ago in a park in san jose. >> reporter: jessica, this is where the amber alert came to an

end. the family and that 1-year-old boy are now reunited at the san jose police department, and they will be brought home. that happy reunion was made possible by a woman who lives here. this is mrs. ramirez. this morning a child needed her help. >> i just picked up the baby out of the car seat and the boy took off. >> reporter: she lives in this rv with her husband and dogs in san jose. she didn't know there was an amber alert this morning for 8-month-old emiliano salinas. he was in the back of his parent's car, a 1992 white honda accord before 5:00 this morning when someone jumped in the driver's seat and took off. mrs. ramirez says the suspect's nickname is turtle. it appeared the suspect appeared to be under the influence of drugs. >> we recognize him as someone who caused a lot of trouble. >> reporter: at around 8:00 this morning she says the suspect pulled up near her rv in the stolen vehicle and asked her to take the baby. >> i don't think the man knew he was taking a baby. >> reporter: she says the man

also broke into this van and stole a scooter and took off in the same honda accord. a nearby worker called police. that moment she let her instincts kick in. here's another look at the stolen vehicle, a 1922 white honda accord with the license played 6rgb061. call police in you see it. reporting live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> matt, thank you. meanwhile, san francisco police are searching for the motive in the kidnapping of a baby in san francisco over the weekend. police say this 36-year-old woman took the baby from a car on sherman street yesterday morning. she apparently waited for the father to look away while preparing a bottle, then snatched the 6-month-old and took off. the woman made her way on to not one but two muni buses with the baby in tow before police caught up with her. our camera was rolling when officers made the arrest. did you kidnap a baby? >> no, i don't kidnap babies. >> reporter: why were you with the baby? >> reporter: the baby's mother

rushed to the scene. officers consoled her as she was reunited with her child. no injuries were reported. the relationship between the baby's family and the suspect sun known. a father's effort to save his son from drowning cost him his own life. that father drowned yesterday in coyote creek in morgan hill. investigators say they were told a man went into the water to help a kid, but, unfortunately, he did not come out. the victim's son is okay. firefighters describe the creek as having a fairly quick current. now a breakig news update from south san francisco after a deadly accident on highway 101 near oyster point. officers say the driver was giving a friend a ride home when he hit something early this morning after dropping his passenger off in millbrae. he went back to the scene, didn't find anything. officers though found the body of an older man on the shoulder of the highway forcing the freeway to shut down for a short while overnight. the chp says alcohol and drugs are not a factor, but it's still

unclear if the driver will face any charges. happening now, trouble for commuters in the east bay. a key shortcut is closed for months starting today. morgan territory road in clayton will be shut down south of marsh creek road so crews can fix damage from the winter storms. what's adding insult to injury is that there is a detour to get around, but it's not well marked, and abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is joining us now with the frustration a lot of people are feeling. >> reporter: jessica, we did our fair share of u-turns today. this is the detour. this is the turnoff. notice, there are no signs here telling you to turn. well, we found out that is on purpose, but it is creating confusion. this is now what greets you on morgan territory road in clayton. melina found out the hard way this morning she would have to find a new route to get baco bits to his doggie day care

center. >> i knew the road was closed, but i don't know how to get back there. i know there's a way so i'm trying to figure that out. >> reporter: they are closing the road because the of this, damage from the wet winter. officials say it has been moving up to a foot a day, and it's just now stable enough for the workers to start the job. they will be here six days a week for about three months. >> we've had a lot of phone calls already this morning, just people trying to figure out how to get in here. >> reporter: we checked in at camp four paws to see if the customers were making it there okay this morning. they do think the is impacting their customers' ability to drop off. >> everyone is getting turned around for sure. >> reporter: as visitors we str struggled. >> reporter: there's no signs to alert you to the detour because property owners are allowing the

private used during the construction. the camp four paws management is worrying about business and her neighbors. >> they are just trying to keep as many people off it as possible. i don't think they are thinking about the impact it might have on businesses and people who need urgent care and things like that, but we're doing our best. >> reporter: the county gave access passes to resident and their visitors, and you can go on this road without a pass, but you might get stopped by sheriff's deputies who will ask you where you're going and why you're on this road. this will all be in effect for a few months. they think this project is going to last and this road will be closed through mid-october. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> find your way back, please. work under way to repair a year-old sinkhole that's breaking the bank in one area town. drives in marago have faced this detour since the sinkhole opened up since last year. repairs had to wait until

caltranz signed off on the plan. part of the job includes replacing an eight-foot cole vermont under the intersection. they have already spent millions on this sinkhole which has forced town leaders to declare a fiscal emergency. two leans of green boulevard will be closed until october for those fixes. hey, good morning. hearing a lot of i won't say complaint but a lot of talk about yesterday's hot weather, and i want to let everybody now it is still hot outside as we check out the sutro tower. no more record highs for san jose, oakland and san rafael. that's what the asterixes mean. may get to 100 in discovery bay but most of us in the 70s, 80s. we have a developing sea breeze along the coast. now it's starting to shift its way into the bay, and that's going to help drop the temperatures. it will also make things a little interesting. a quick look at your activity planner. sunny early, and clouds are

gathering there right now. faster breezes on the bay and exercising, watch out for that exteam sunshine. i have even cooler weather on the way. my accuweather seven-day forecast. jessica? >> mike, thank you. this morning three teenagers are in police custody accused of trying to steal someone's cell phone at the daly b.a.r.t. station. abc 7 was there when the suspect was arrested. the suspect tried to rob someone on the platform level. they punched the victim and then tried to take the person's cell phone. this is the fourth reported cell phone robbery attempt on b.a.r.t. since april. b.a.r.t. says it posts all the crime that they have on their website, crimemapping.com. we have a link to that website if you would like to check it out on abc7news.com. firefighters in san jose are investigating what caused a car fire on sierra road that quickly spread to nearby brush. it was spotted around 4:00 yesterday morning. two acres burns before crews got the fire under control. this morning, firefighters are battling a wildfire in mendecino county.

cal fire says the grade fire has burned 900 acres and is just 25% contained. people living near highway 101 north of redwood valley are being evacuated. the fire began around 3:00 yesterday afternoon. and fire officials in santa barbara county expected to give updates on the whittier fire within just the next half hour. the fire burning near lake cochuma has destroyed at least 16 homes and 30 structures. the damage spans over 18,000 acres. firefighters say it's almost 50% contained at this point. governor brown has issued an emergency proclamation to make recovery funding available to those fire victims. trouble for president trump. coming up on abc news, his new approval rating that just came in and what it means about his first few months in the white house. and in arizona, an entire family swept away by a deadly flash flood. we have the latest on the search for another victim. also, a new concern for neighbors in florida after a

crashed over them. the youngest victim was only 2 years old. dozens of swimmers were caught off guard. one man is still missing. unfortunately, more dangerous storms are on the way. new details this morning out of florida where the massive sinkhole swallowed two homes and a boat. everyone doing okay right now but the big concern is water contamination. this morning emergency officials testing for e. coli. the scene is being considered a hazardous teams issue because of septic tank issues and building debris. the sinkhole is now stable. it opened up friday morning north of tampa. get this. it's 225 feet wide and 50 feet deep. >> and the two destroyed homes. they were actually renters inside of those homeowners homes. those renters -- neither one of them had any type of renters insurance, so the contents that are the renters are not covered at all.

>> which is so tough to hear, and the united way is starting a fun to help out the families affected by the sink holes. a new poll says president trump has the lowest six-month approval rating of any president in 70 years dating back to harry truman. just 36% of americans approve of president trump's job performance. that's already a slide since his 100-day mark. abe's emily rau reports >> reporter: new abc news/"washington post" poll numbers aren't good for president trump. record lows for overall approval and when asked about president trump's behavior, 24% of americans think it's flitting and proper compared to 70% who >> the a big part of what's driving his negative, george, is the way he communicates. if all he did would adjust that he'd begin to rise. >> reporter: in fact, 67% of americans disapprove of the president's use of twitter. just 24% approve.

aside from the president's twitter habit russia continues to be a sore spot. >> this is about as clear evidence as you can find by intent by the campaign to collude with the russians. >> reporter: 63% of americans think the meeting between the president's inner circle and a russian lawyer was inappropriate, and we now know that not just one but two well-connected russians were in that meeting, arranged with the promise of providing damaging information about hillary clinton. the russian lawyer aligned with the kremlin and a russian-american lobbyist once an officer in a sov sov sov counterintelligence unit, the president's attorney seeming to blame the secret service for not stopping that meeting. >> i wonder why the secret service, if this was nefarious, why the secret service allowed these people in. the president had secret service protection at that point. that raised questions with me. >> reporter: the agency responding saying don junior was not under secret service

hey, welcome back. let's open up the weather window on san jose where it's going to be warm to hot once again but i don't think you'll set a record. the record is like 107 for today. let's use this for our accuweather highlights. today bright skies, still warm to hot. there are other clouds gathering at the coast so you'll see a little less sunshine this afternoon than you did yesterday. clouds are coming for all of us, and better sleeping weather tonight. in the extended, another hot weekend. i don't think it will be quite as hot as what we lived through, but it's going to be hot. you can see the clouds gathering at the coast. they are not going to completely inundate the coast, but definitely signals that the winds of change are here. you can see the 20-mile-per-hour wind at sfo. 14 at oakland and even 7 in san

jose, so the closer you are to the water, the more you're going to feel comfort today. in fact, look at 82 at milipitas and 88 san jose and mid-90s in los gatos and a sunny 79 in santa cruz. 13 in millbrae and low to mid-80s for the rest of the peninsula. clouds gathering at the coast, i think they will squeeze into the mid to upper 60s. flirting with 80s downtown in south san francisco. going to the game this evening, cleveland is coming over from the east bay to take on the giants. 7:15 first pitch and 61 dropping down to 57, of course, breezy and a few clouds by the end of the day. north bay with mid-90s calistoga. along the east bay shore, 76 in oakland and 80 in fremont. a breezy 72 in richmond and hercules and the rays are coming in for the a's today. 7:05 first pitch. 66, dropping down to a cool 61 there at the coliseum.

hottest temperatures, still need the air conditioners, 95 to 98. bank thermometers, car thermometers will see triple digits. always hotter on the asphalt. look at this as we head through your day planner, 50s at the coast as the sea breeze really kicks in this morning and near 80 around the bay and low to mid-90s inland. not hot but not comfortable. 50s, 60s and 70s by 8:00. nice to get outside. how about 52 in santa rosa and look at the cloud cover coming back in, and that's going to mean a dramatic drop in the temperatures tomorrow. about 1 degrees at the coast. a little bit of a warming trend friday and saturday, almost as hot as today sunday. >> so officially i like this kind of weather. i like the hot summers. >> yes. i know a lot of people complain to you. you had a lot of complaints. >> more people complain about the heat than don't. you like to go to the beach.
