injured after a roof collapsed at an atlanta at least six people were injured after a roof collapsed at an atlanta restaurant. one man was treated at the hospital for a head injury. dozens of people were inside the restaurant when about 40% of the roof gave way. the cause of the collapse is being investigated, but authorities say heavy rains may have weakened the roof. now to a deadly plane crash at a golf course in arizona. authorities say the plane went down near long bow golf club. it crashed about a half-mile off the end of an approach of a runway. two people aboard the plane are confirmed dead. not much left after that terrible crash. no word on the cause. we're going to turn our focus to explosive new allegation against the three-time grammy winner. >> yes, the parents ever several women are accusing r. kelly offf holding them against their will in what's being called a type of cult.

wls has the story. ♪ >> reporter: with success has come some ugly allegations. now the singer is accused of controlling and abusing young women who lived with him. the allegations are outlined in a buzzfeed report by chicago music critic jim derogatis. >> the entertainment industry continues to, as the kids say, cosign r. kelly. >> reporter: in december, a concerned mother called johns creek police department in georgia, alleging kelly is controlling her daughter and a part of a cult. no one was at the house at the time of the check. in january, cook county sheriffs did a well-being check in which the parents related that they were concerned that their daughter was being held against her will, along with another young lady. at the visit, officers related she was fine and did not want to be bothered with her parents. derogotis interviewed those

parents as well as the parents of another young woman, and three women who allegedly had been part of kelly's circle. >> they must turn and face the wall when another male enters the room. and their cell phone is taken from them so they can't contact family or friends. they are told how to pleasure him sexually and in encounters he records. >> reporter: r. kelly has had issues amid a growing career. in 2002, he was charged with child pornography. he was acquitted. there have been several other cases settled out of court against r. kelly, involving sex with underage girls. leah hope, abc 7 eyewitness news. >> now kelly's attorneys have responded saying mr. robert kelly is both alarmed and disturbed at the recent revelations attributed to him. >> so that statement went on to say that mr. kelly unequivocally denies subpoena allegations and will work diligently to forcibly pursue his accusers and try to clear his name.

though, against the singer. and john mccain is said to be sounding like his old self again after surgery to remove a blood clot. lindsey graham says he was acting forgetful before the operation. those are some of our top stories on this tuesday, july 18th. from abc news, this is "world news now." and a good tuesday morning to you. we begin with those questions surrounding a police shooting in minneapolis. >> justine damond had called 911 about a possible crime. she was standing outside the police car in her pajamas, talking to the driver, when his partner allegedly shot her. it's not just her family and friends who are bewildered by this. the mayor and police chief are also asking why. abc's maggie rulli with more. >> reporter: don damond's demanding to know why his fiance was shot and killed by police after she was one who called them for help. >> the death of justine is a loss to everyone who knew her. she touched so many people with her loving and generous heart.

>> reporter: his fiancee justine damond was a meditation and yoga instructor. who moved here from sydney, as you traiaustralia. the two planned to marry next month. but she called police to report a possible assault in the alley behind her home. authorities say a squad car with two officers arrived around 11:30 p.m. the minneapolis star tribune reports damond came out in her pajamas and approached the driver's side. according to the tribune, the officer in the passenger seat, mohammad noor opened fire through the driver's side door. >> shots fired. can we get ems? >> reporter: the paper reports that no weapon was found at the scene. >> my mom is dead because a police officer shot her for reasons i don't know. >> reporter: the police department says that at the time of the incident, the officers' body cameras were not turned on. and the squad car camera did not

capture the incident. both officers are now on paid administrative leave. and the police chief says he's calling for a transparent and independent investigation saying quote, i understand why so many people have so many questions at this point. maggie rulli, abc news, new york. >> and as a result, maggie, a lot of people are digging into that officer, the one that fired the fatal shot, his past. and our affiliate is reporting he had three complaints on his record. one of them has been closed. but there are two open complaints on his record. some of the things a lot of people are going to be looking into there in minneapolis. >> such a disturbing story. >> that it is. we're going to move on to the breaking news on the collapse of the latest health care bill. two more republicans have defected, denying gop leaders of the 50 votes they need. >> yeah, senate majority leader mitch mcconnell says he'll call for a repeal only vote and

hammer out a placement for obamacare over the next two years. that followed president trump's tweet calling for republicans to repeal obamacare and start over adding that democrats will join in. utah senator mike lee and jerry moran from kansas essentially killed the legislation, when they announced their opposition last night, joining senators rand paul and susan collins who also refused to back the bill. before the health care bill's failure, president trump opened what he's calling "made in america week" at the white house. see that stetson there. he showcased items from all 50 states, including a fire truck from wisconsin. >> that's a big gift to the d.c. area. the president also swung a baseball bat from louisiana and briefly tried on a cowboy hat from texas. he says he wants to provide a level playing field for american workers and trade industries when it comes to trade deals involving the u.s.

the president also wants to reduce the trade deficit with mexico while updating the north american free-trade agreement. >> there was one moment when he got into that fire truck that a lot of people were like, saying, looking for, where's the fire. a lot of his critics were saying, well, there is plenty of fire in the white house at this point. well, the trump administration has informed congress that iran is complying with a nuclear deal that allows sanctions to remain lifted. >> but in making the quarterly certification, officials say iran is in default of the spirit of the deal, pointing to its ballistic missile program, human rights abuses and support of terrorism. candidate trump had vowed to rip up the nuclear deal, but officials say the administration is now considering fixing flaws in that agreement. and the chinese american graduate student who's being held in iran is innocent, according to his professor.

kiyue wang has been in rather thannian custody for nearly a year. his detention came to light because of an announcement by iranian officials. his professor says he did nothing wrong. iranians accuse him of infiltrating their country and sending confidential information about iran to the state department. video of a woman wearing a mini skirt is sparking an uproar in saudi arabia. the woman who has not been identified has released the video on social media. saudi arabia has a strict dress code for females. they must wear long, black, all loose garments to protect modesty. saudi officials are investigating. this woman could not face jail time. while some are calling for her arrest, others are praising her bravery. women in saudi arabia are still not allowed to drive. searchers have not given up hopech finding 20-year-old hector garnica alive. he and his family were swept away by a national flood in the tonto national forest in arizona. his wife and children are among the nine family members killed. new crews and dogs joined the search this morning.

a 1-year-old was also left behind. it all started when demario evans here allegedly ran a stop sign and then sped away. he then jumped from the car and ran away on foot leaving behind the two kids in the vehicle. the case last week, we're getting these images now. police say evans turned himself in monday night. they still have no idea what caused him to run. >> what caused him to run and leave his very small children in the back of a car unattended, and the fact that that little girl knows about her daddy going to jail, either he's talked to her about it or he's done it before. >> it's tough to run with two kids. >> oh, come on now. turning now as i get more serious, turning now to a new development in the disappearance of the two teenaged girls in indiana. >> investigators are now offering up a new clue as they ask for the public's help in tracking down a suspect. here's alex perez. >> reporter: indiana authorities releasing this new sketch of a man they believe brutally

february after a hike on a nature trail. their bodies were found the next day. police have previously released an image of the suspect they say libby captured on her cell phone. and in arizona, a wild scene captured on video as a bobcat attacks a man and his dog. a good samaritan actually jumped in to try to help. and then the bobcat bit him on the hand. eventually the bobcat runs away but was later located and put down by wildlife authorities. they say the cat tested positive for rabies. but the man, the dog and good samaritan are all expected to be okay. >> that bobcat was holding on as he was spinning around trying to get him off. >> crazy. another animal story. this one's a little friendlier. a guy on new york's island says his golden retriever wouldn't even run after a tennis ball. so imagine his shock when the dog ran into the water to save a deer. >> that is storm dragging the fawn toward the shore. >> oh. >> when he got there, storm nudged the deer in an attempt to

at least six people were injured after a roof collapsed at an atlanta restaurant. one man was treated at the hospital for a head injury. dozens of people were inside the restaurant when about 40% of the roof gave way. the cause of the collapse is being investigated, but authorities say heavy rains may have weakened the roof. now to a deadly plane crash at a golf course in arizona. authorities say the plane went down at long bow club near mesa. it crashed about a half-mile off the end of an approach of a runway. two people aboard the plane are confirmed dead. not much left after that terrible crash. no word on the cause. we're going to turn our focus to those explosive new allegations against the three-time grammy winner r. kelly. >> yes, the parents ever several women are accusing r. kelly of holding them against their will in what's being called a type of cult.
