continues to grow. look at these flames. calfire says the detwiler fire has spread to 48,000 acres. it's still only 7% contained. that has not changed since yesterday. 3,000 firefighters are on the front lines with more crews now on the way. the town of mariposa and its 2200 residents have been ordered to stay away. in addition, the residents of colterville were given an emergency evacuation order. glam flames are closing in on two sides. >> we got the animals packed up. we're waiting on the neighbors to follow us down. >> i'm not going to worry about it. i'm alive. i'm not going to stay there for it to get to me. we'll rebuild if it happens. >> so far, 29 structures have been destroyed. another 1500 are threatened. fbi agents are investigating a possible disturbance aboard a spirit airlines flight that took off from oakland international. flight 576 took off just after 4:30 p.m. bound for baltimore.

the plane was diverted to denver international instead. no one was hurt, and no word on what that disturbance was. hey, everyone. we are just getting this new video of severe weather overnight in the midwest. it really caused some significant damage in that state. the first video from wisconsin, a small airport there in crawford county was one of the hardest hit places. a hangar was damaged. it collapsed on top of a vintage plane dating back to the year 1943. quite a loss there. and i want to show you this new video that just came in from iowa. you can see homed damages after trees blew over after trees blew over. unclear if these areas were hit by a tornado. >> all right, thank you. this morning, san francisco police are investigating this deadly crash at geary and laguna. a motorcycle and a truck collided around 8:30 last night. the biker was declared dead at the scene. police say the truck driver is

cooperating with investigators. >> the next generation of caltrain about to beginning, and it promises better service and less construction. it will convert service from diesel equipment to high performance electric trains. caltrain says the new system will allow for faster and more frequent service. it will also go a long way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. caltrain expects to roll out electric trains by 2021. >> the sonoma marin rail transit or smart train plans to begin regular service soon. they told the marin ij they may get federal approval as soon as next week. the federal railroad administration's review found no red flags. it will travel 43 miles from santa rosa to downtown san rafael. there are ten stops along the railway. the schedule includes 34 trips each week day. >> san francisco's planning commission is expected to give preliminary approval for a new hotel. the project would be built on the site of the old tower

during, and after the marathon that begins at 5:30 a.m. it shows you the marathon thout taking runners around the north half of the city. all northbound traffic will be closed on the golden gate bridge. the closure goes into effect at 6:00 a.m. and lasts until 9:00 a.m. that decision was made to close the lanes as a skuft measure after the attacks in europe where cars were driven into large crowds. southbound traffi will not be impacted. the warriors have come up with a unique plan to finance their new $1 billion arena. a membership plan that's like a personal seat license but with one big difference. you get your money back, eventually. the chase center is under construction in the mission bay area in san francisco. this is video provided by the team. the membership plans would start at $15,000 per ticket and that gives you the right to buy tickets. the new twist is that in 30 years you would get a full refund from the warriors. >> think for our most ardent fans, having price certainty before they make a decision on their membership of what their

conditions as we head into the afternoon hours. let's look at our temperatures. quite a range in the south bay. from the breezes keeping milpitas at 74. san jose, 79. not as breezy as you head down to gilroy. 87. and about 72 today in santa cruz. on the peninsula, 77 in redwood city. most of us in the low to mid 70s. millbrae at 68. along the coast, we'll be right around 60 degrees with 67 in downtown san francisco. head up through the north bay valleys. petaluma, 81, to 87 in santa rosa. along the east bay, from 70 in berkeley to 75 in fremont and castro valley, and 83 in san ramon to a few 90s around antioch and brentwood. tonight, another comfortable night. my seven-day forecast, enjoy tomorrow, especially inland, because you have the 100s saturday and sunday. then mid 90s next week while we'll be in the low to mid 80s around the bay and low to mid 60s at the coast. almost as hot as a firecracker out there. you're following a fire.

a retail chain catering to teenage girls has stopped selling a glittery product. it's called just shine shimmer powder. justice stores pulled it after tests from our affil ytd in north carolina turned up asbestos and toxic metals including lead. michael finney first alerted us to the issue last night. justice stores now say they're conducting their own investigation of the makeup. it stopped selling the powder at stores and online. if san francisco's trees took a little more kept, it could be thanks to a new program. crews from the dparment of public works were out trimming trees in the castro district. it's part of a plan to have the city begin caring for the 125,000 trees that line city streets. carla short supervised the work in her trademark tree costume. she said the priority will be saving or in some cases removing the most distressed trees first. >> we're going to be trying to tackle the worst first. so what we're doing is we have

jammed. this got a lot worse very quickly. we did have a full closure overnight, but i watched them pick up the cones and they opened everything back up. i believe we still have a couple lanes closed once you make it to 24. between that and pleasant hill road into the lafayette area. so we have a pretty decent delay. i will keep an eye on that and give you an update in a few. also, we have a tree on fire, 980. we have a closure, one lane in each direction, eastbound and westbound 980 near 11th street. so far, that's not causing any delays. >> thank you. work is under way on a new oakland apartment complex right next door to another development destroyed by fire earlier this month. a ground breaking ceremony marked the start of construction on the 235-unit project located add 33rd and valdez. a city council member said recent construction fires have not deterred developers. >> i have not heard from the developers that there's fear. all developers, all entrepreneurs manage risk. there's a risk in development.

>> 15% of the units will be set aside for low-income housing. the development should be completed by the summer of 2019. okay, so do you find this creepy or super cool? let me tell you what it is. mechanical engineers at stanford have created a robot that moves like a snake and can grow like a vine. the university released this video. the robot is soft, so it can squeeze into places and then expand when it needs to. it can pull things along with it. things can be fed through it. and it can form itself into shapes. this robot prototype is powered by air. i'm going to let a mechanical engineering expert explain how it works. >> the basic mechanism of the device is called eversion. so it basically turns inside out as the material emits from the tip. by doing so, we allow more material to be fed through the center, and that allows us to grow to very long lengths. >> wow. researchers say this robot is great for difficult spaces like
