i do vote to grant parole when eligible. that will conclude this hearing. >> thank you. thank you. >> o.j. simpson will soon be out of prison. he was granted parole after serving nine years in prison for a las vegas robbery. good evening. >> thank you for joining us. simpson could be released as early as october 1st. the 70-year-old was sentenced to 33 years in prison after a 2007 robbery in a las vegas hotel. he maintains he was trying to reclaim some of his personal memorabilia. >> he appeared before the nevada parole board and said he had no intent to commit a crime that day in vegas. >> i thought i was glad to get my stuff back but it wasn't worth it. nine years away from your family is just not worth it. i'm sorry. >> you're a low risk to reoffend on our guidelines.

you have community support and stable release lans. >> simpson told the board he plans to return to florida where he lived before his conviction. >> emotions were mixed as locals reacted to the board's decision to release him. >> analysts say it all made sense from a legal standpoint. chris nguyen is live with more. >> this was simpson's chance to not only make his chance to the board but to the american people. knowing that this hearing would be broadcast to a national add yens. we spoke to a legal expert today who says he was not surprised by the board's decision. >> i think he was fortunate to get out after serving only nine years. >> reporter: in the court of public opinion so many people shocked over the final call to set simpson free as early as october. >> people still hold him responsible for a crime he was i quitted of. i think that's why a lot of people don't want him to get

paroled. >> reporter: simpson who was bompb and raised this san francisco graduated from galileo high school before making it big in nfl. >> i believe in the jury system. i've honored their verdict. i've not complained for nine years. all i've done is try to be helpful. >> reporter: this morning an opportunity for him to plead his case for parole. >> he has the rest of his life to live. if he kwichconvinces the televi audience he wasn't guilty of that robbery and kidnapping as he was found guilty by the jury, it could make it easier for him. >> reporter: usf law professor said the board's choice to release him made sense from a legal standpoint. >> under the rules of the parole board and watching his testimony that seemed to be the logical conclusion. >> reporter: bay area residents not holding back on how they feel. >> how can he regain his reputation? how can he regain his previous glory as a football star?

rescue my grandma's chickens. i got them. we congresswoman back and see the the smoke. the smoke was not here an hour ago. this up and down, this is not, it's not fun. in the tiny community the little church in the hill has burned to the ground. just down the road two homes are also gone. several others survived just a few yards away. >> the fire came right down through the middle of our ranch. >> reporter: mitch and his wife had to evacuate from their ranch. sdplp i decided to go out and get the rv turned around just in case. right after i got it hooked up the sheriff came in. >> reporter: in downtown mariposa despite a mandatory evacuation order the owner came in to check on a few things and

serve a few customers. coping the best they can with the reality around them. >> i know they will do anything they can to save town. we have lost our shop before. came around the corner and the whole block was on fire. it's just stuff. >> reporter: officials saying 45 structures officially destroyed. we know from our travels that many of those are homes. so far we also know of two firefighters who have been injured but we're told fortunely both of those injuries are minor. >> thank you. the fire is affecting a lot of the firefighters and evacuees. take a look at reno. the air quality has been upgraded to moderate after wednesday was called unhealthy because of the smoke.

the fire is so massive, you can actually see it from space. cameras took this picture of the sho smoke rising from mariposa county. those are remarkable images from space. >> the fire is so intense you can see them. as you take a look at the fire conditions right now, the worst possible conditions for the crews out there. 91 degrees. it's hot. it's gusty. fire crews are not going to get much help the next few hours remaining gusty and erratic. you'll notice the winds are in all different directions. you can see the smoke from this fire very clearly.

dan. >> it's really remarkable. thanks very much. this is video from sky 7. the smoke blew towards good samaritan hospital which is not far away. firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it became more of a hazard to drivers. sky 7 was over the other fire about 30 minutes ago. this five acre blaze burned the hillside in los altos hill. the area was being mowed by the fire department to build protection lines. the effort backfired when dry grass caught fire in the burn preserve. firefighters extinguished the blaze with the help of water dropping helicopters. today the california attorney general reenforced his opposition to allowing the last independent gasoline terminal in northern california to be sold to valero fearing the sale will

increase gas prices. he's going to court to block the sale of the terminal in martinez. this huge shipping terminal, 31 tanks is owned by a company called planes all american. valero is looking at buying it. that's what worried the california attorney general. they are looking to buy the last independent terminal that distributes gasoline to the retail stations. the other terminals are already owned by refiners. the state contends selling this facility could affect the prices consumers pay at the pump. >> if the suppliers become the controllers of the spiget then it won't be demand that will determine the price of gasoline,

it will be suppliers who can manipulate to control the price. >> california prices are over 60 cents above national average when only about 30 to 35 cents of that is really explainable through higher taxes, cleaner burner gasoline and so forth. >> reporter: when contacted by abc 7 news, valero only reissued a joint statement put out by their ceo and plains all american ceo last week saying as the ftc and california attorney general know, valero plans to meaningfully expand capacity at both the martinez and richmond terminals that will benefit customers as well as california consumers. they are disappointed the attorney general is challenging the transaction in court.

valley. >> god bless him if he can. >> reporter: he's optimistic it will happen quickly. senator john mccain is not letting cancer diagnosis slow him down. it was reveal yesterday that doctors discovered a cancerous in his brain. the senator and his family are looking at different treatment options, including radiation and chemotherapy. the day after his diagnosis he went on twitter to thank both supporters and opponents. he wrote, i greatly appreciate the out pouring of support. unfortunately for my sparring partners in congress, i'll be back soon. about an hour later he tweeted a strong statement from his office condemning the president's recent actions in syria.

the news about senator mccain comes as a pharmaceutical factory is growing to expand cancer drugs. the drugs can be in short supply leaving patients to wait for months. >> of all the new drugs and development in california, cancer drugs dominate with 404 in the pipeline out of 1269. it's investing $221 million to expand capacity for therapies of its own and for other pharmaceutical companies. here is why. for years cancer patients and their doctors have faced a critical shortage of supplies of oncology medicines. patient vs to wait months if not longer to get their medicines. this facility will try to address that shortage. the food and drug administration says seven cancer drugs are in short supply. the expansion will increase its capacity by one third. it will also create 300 new jobs on top of the 400 working now.

conditioner. with a wide tooth comb separate the hair into smaller sections then run a metal knit come through each smaller section. >> lice prefer to live and lay their eggs close to the scalp. that's the area you want to focus on. >> reporter: wipe the comb on a paper towel. when finished with the whole head wash the combs in soapy water and put the used paper towels in a resealable, plastic bag. continue the comb outs every day until no more live lice are seen then every few days for about a month. >> lice can't live off of your head for too long. you want to just focus on the items that have come into direct contact with your child's head over the past few days. >> reporter: be sure to check and treat everyone in your family.
