good morning, everyone. it's friday, july 21st. >> we're having weekend vibes here. mike nicco, alexis also here with traffic in just a second. mike, you said it's going to be a warm weekend? >> i think so, away from the coast, absolutely. if you're in san francisco, it will be fine. everybody else will notice a little warmer trend that might make it a little uncomfortable. we still have little sea breeze. you can see it broing to the east at 21 at fairfield. notice lack of clouds as we look from south beach. temperatures, 55 to 59 at 7:00. we'll stay 59 to 60 along the coast. 72 to 75, noon to 4:00 around the bay. 78 to 88, noon to 4:00 in our

inland neighborhoods. notice 50s, 60s, and 70s at 7:00 this evening. delightful time to be outside. i'll give you an update on the hot temperatures coming up next. >> good morning. we're doing okay right now. we're looking at the bay bridge toll plaza. if you're paying cash this morning, i would head to the right-hand side. a stack up on the left side. no metering lights yet, but it looks like we need a few more cash boosh booths open. tracy to dublin, under a half hour. westbound 4 in the green at 13. and southbound 101, also in the green at 16 minutes. we'll check on some overnight road work projects in less than ten. >> we're tracking breaking news in san jose where police are investigating an overnight stabbing. >> matt keller is live near the scene on red bird drive. matt. >> reporter: jessica and reggie, red bird drive is closed in both directions right now. they are finishing up their investigation. a photographer from the san jose police department just arrived here to take photos of some of the evidence on the scene, and

then once they do that, they're expected to clear up here. now, this was about ten minutes ago, we did see a car towed away from the scene. officers are still here doing their investigation. this came in as a report of a stabbing. here's video of the victim taken away on a stretcher. paramedics moved him into the ambulance. a police car followed behind on the way to the hospital. officers talked with neighborhoods. a canine officer was also on the scene. we're waiting to hear more details on what took place in this willow glen neighborhood. reporting live in san jose, matt keller, abc7 news. at the live desk, we're tracking developing news. the trump administration expected to ban american citizens from traveling to north korea. all of this in reaction to the death of otto warmbier. he died earlier this year after being released from a north korean prison. u.s. officials say secretary of state rex tillerson made the decision. it will make it illegal to use a passport to enter north korea.

they say the restriction would go into effect 30 days after a notice is published in the federal register. not clear exactly when that will be. of course, we'll keep tracking the story for you. >> developing news on a major wildfire burning outsidei yosemite national park. the detwiler fire has spread to 71,000 acres this morning. still only 10% contained. more than 5,000 people are evacuated, and the latest numbers from calfire indicate 99 buildings are destroyed including 50 homes. despite evacuation orders, some residents are staying put. >> when you see the wall of fire coming at you, it's like, i can't stop that. after a fire, if there's a flare-up and you ain't there and nobody else is there, it just burns. and so i would just -- i wasn't going to let that happen. >> calfire says the detwiler fire is such a big danger because of the hot weather and

the rough terrain. i want you to take a look at this. the fire is so massive, you can see it from space. a weather satellite captured this image of the fire this week. you can see that huge cloud of smoke rising up from the middle of the state. well, it was supposed to be one of the happiest days of their lives. turned out to be one of their worst. a bay area couple is searching for the thief who stole their wedding photos. alyssa harrington has their heartbreaking story. >> felt like a bad dream. >> enzo and giovana thought their wedding day would be the happiest day of their lives. but they were instead left heartbroken. a thief stole their wedding photos right out of their photographer's car. >> i was a mess. i was bawling, crying pretty much that whole night. >> photographer amanda feels terrible. >> i want to make them happy and remember this moment. and for me, that just -- i felt completely. >> she and her assistant shot the intimate ceremony at san

francisco city hall monday. they stopped by the presidio on the way home to use the bathroom. they returned to their car to find the back window smashed. $15,000 worth of camera equipment and the memory cards gone. >> i feel like the blow left my body. i froze. because i know the equipment doesn't matter. it's really those memory cards. >> she has been searching nonstop online and at flee markets. she post eed flyers offering a reward. >> if anyone knows anything or recognizes us in these pictures, if they could just return them. these are really valuable pictures to us. and something that we hope to keep and share for the rest of our lives. >> everyone is holding out hope that maybe the story could still have a happily ever after. alyssa harrington, abc 7 news. >> of course, those memories invaluable. the couple now offering $1,000 reward for the memory cards. no question asked. there is a bit of good news,

though. the photographer has now offered to reshoot some of the photos for them, even pay for the hair, makeup, and flowers. she also gave the couple a full refund. >> o.j. simpson could be released from a nevada correctional facility in about ten weeks. yesterday, a group of four commissioners granted the former nfl star parole after almost nine years in prison for a las vegas robbery. a visibly relieved simpson thanked the parole board after they unanimously voted in favor of the release. one of his victims made a plea on his behalf. he appeared exclusively on "good morning america" saying simpson is a good man who made a mistake. he reminded amy robach that it wasn't simpson who pointed the gun at his head in a las vegas hotel room. >> he was also the one that, even though he denies it, he was also the one who said put the gun down. put the gun down. and making the motion to put the gun down. and that's when mcclinton backed up as well. >> you can see amy robach's entire interview with bruce

froon "gma" at 7:00. >> concord police say lemuel wilson jr. was driving under the influence when he hit an suv on highway 4 last month. police say he left the scene of that accident. two children died in the wreck and a third child is still in the hospital with serious injuries. >> the search is on for more victims of this he's accused of stealing $800,000 from clients of his auto restoration business in santa cruz. gnp speed and machine is the name of the business. in one case, investigators say he asked an elderly client to invest money into the business to buy or build specific vehicles. but they say the vehicles didn't even exist. and he instead used the money to pay off personal debt. >> a federal judge says he won't dismiss sanctuary city lawsuits filed by san francisco and santa clara county. according to sf gate, a u.s.

district judge rejected the trump administration's request to take back a ruling in april prohibiting cut-offs in federal funding. the president wants to penalize cities and counties that violate federal immigration law. san francisco and santa clara county deny breaking the law but say it threatens millions of dollars in their annual funding. all right, let's see if there's any fog on the golden gate bridge. looks pretty hazy out there, but we can see almost all the way across to the other side. the winds are fairly light. less than ten miles per hour. a late arriving cloud deck. on the roads today, more sunshine. have the sunglasses, even this morning, in some of those areas that have been foggy during the morning commute, you probably need the sunglasses. mass transit, nothing extreme today. if you're on the bay, a little breezy south of the bay bridge. let's take a look a temperatures along the east bay shore. we have oakland at 59. the warm spot. berkeley, san leandro, union city, along with fremont, 56. 55 in union city, and arinda at

54. 60 right now in concord. a little warmer in antioch and brentwood, mid 60s there. 59 in san jose. 57 on the peninsula. san carlos, down to mountain view, albany, and novato at 54 right now. let's look at highs around the state today. if you're traveling, mid to upper 90s in sacramento and fres fresno. 82 in tahoe, and 92 in yosemite. a lot of smoke and haze there. let's see what's going to happen this weekend in tahoe. there's going to be a chance that it gets warmer. saturday, 87. then sunday, 85 with a slight chance of thunderstorms with a better chance of thunderstorms monday and tuesday. hopefully that will help clean the air then. until then, we do have issues with air quality throughout the sierra this weekend. alexis. >> good morning. i want to take you back to walnut creek. this is where we had just a major traffic jam yesterday at this time. due to some overnight paving work. they did that same work again last night, but it looks like they have gotten things picked up on time or even a little ahead of schedule.

southbound 680, a full closure between north main and 24. i watched them pick that up well before it was scheduled to wrap at 5:00 a.m. then we had some lanes closed on westbound 24 as well once you made it to the 680 interchange. looked like that has wrapped too. we're not seeing delays. also taking you into the oakland area, we had a full overnight closure of northbound 880 between 29th and 23rd. that's lifted and actually it look like all of the cones are picked up in both directions there. so really crews finishing their work on top if not ahead, and not looking at any major delays. a couple more overnight projects including in san leandro and the bay bridge. we'll check on those next. >> a reminder, a major change to this year's running of the san francisco marathon. this sunday, drivers will face a lot of road closures before, defer, and after the marathon which begins at 5:30 in the morning. this shows you the route. it's going to take runners around the northern half of the city. here is the big change. all northbound traffic is going to be closed on the golden gate

people in south florida reacting to o.j. simpson possibly relocated to the state after he's released from prison. >> victor has the details in today's "gma" first look. >> in this morning's "gma" first look, the state of florida is preparing for the possible return of o.j. simpson if he's allowed to relocate. his former manager telling abc news he thinks simpson wants to live nearest those closest to him. >> i think he's going to come to the tampa area. a lot of his friends are in tampa, i am, his kendz are here. >> he lived here for about ten years. spending a lot of time on the links, but his attorney wouldn't comment. >> he has plenty of aungzs. he has plenty of options. >> in order to qualify for an interstate transfer to florida, he would have to establish he has a support system in the area. wherever o.j. ends up, he'll have a nice cushion. this nfl pension of $25,000 a month has been growing in an account and there's a retirement account with the screen actors guild that could be worth

millions. we'll have more on simpson's parole with your "gma" first look. abc news, florida. >> new developments in the russia investigation. president trump's legal team is looking to limit special counsel robert mueller's aides. the president is building a case against mueller's team based on conflicts of interest. sources close to the matter said trump also asked advisers about his power to pardon people involved in the russia probe. members of congress are concerned this could limit the investigation. >> there's a real hunger on the part of many members of both parties to have this resolved appropriately. and if the president steps in and cuts it off by firing bob mueller, i think he will pay a very heavy price here in congress. >> earlier this week, the president told "the new york times" that some members of mueller's team have conflicts of interests. >> looks like sean spicer is going to soon be able to focus on just one job. president trump is considering

anthony scaramucci to be the next white house communications director. he's a hedge fund manager. he served as an adviser for the trump transition team. he reportedly interviewed for the job and was seen walking out of the west wing late last night. no word on when an official announcement will come. he has been handling dual roles as communications director and white house press secretary. >> two people are dead and at least 55 hurt after an explosion at a noodle restaurant in east china today. you can see the blast there caught on camera. security camera showing the blast during the breakfast rush. still not clear what caused the explosion. but officials say most small restaurants in the town use bottled gas to fuel their cookers. >> happening today, sentencing set for a south florida woman convicted of trying to hire a hitman to murder her newlywed husband. the hitman was an undercover police officer. his conversation with dalia

dippolito in 2009 was caught on camera. prosecutors believe she wanted control of the couple's townhouse and her husband's savings. the case gained national attention when he it was featured on cops in 2012. she could get up to 30 years in prison. >> many of you may agree that booking a last-minute trip to another state is usually not cheap. four minor league baseball players say they were left with very few options to get to their next game on time. there was an issue with their flight in arizona so they booked an uber all the way to new mexico. uber driver hemet sharma was up for it. he drove the guys more than 400 miles one way from phoenix to albuquerque. it was a seven-hour trip. added to more than $680. good thing he likes to drive. he says he would do it again. >> i would do it in a heartbeat. i could go to canada right now. would you like to go? >> he's the guy to call if you need a long-distance drive. well, sharma says he finds peace

in driving. by the way, the team ended up unfortunately losing their game, but nonetheless, the players still gave their driver a five-star rating for his effort. i'm sure they put in a five-star rating -- five-star effort for the game. after all of that, i mean. oh, man. >> maybe a little tip. that could help, too. >> yeah. >> we know alexis does traffic like a boss, but you're about to meet a man who commutes like a boss. that man is climbing up the back of a bus in chicago because he didn't have money for the fare. oh, no. so instead of riding in the bus, he took a trip on the bus. now, his head is getting really close to that overpass, isn't it? >> yeah. >> he was also smoking a cigarette while doing this whole thing. how do we know he didn't have enough money? the guy who recorded this says just before he climbed on the bus, he asked him for money. the person recording it said no. no word if the commuter got arrested or made it to his final

destination. don't do that at home. >> please don't try that. >> get to your tv because this is pretty cool. watch how strong winds literally blew a car away, well, just a little away in hamburg, new york. a security camera there catching this yesterday. the homeowner says he saw what he thought was a funnel cloud or tornado blocks away. he rushed her family into the basement. he watched the footage after the storm passed. not confirmed, though, if an actual tornado touched down here. do you see that on the right of the screen? that trailer looks like it blew away, too, and the trash cans. all a mess. >> that's scary. >> those winds are so strong. lucky we're not dealing with that here. >> we're just going to have warm temperatures depending on where you are. >> a little breeze south of the bay bridge. yes, nothing like that tornado. looked like a tornado to me. you can see debris flying in the air, definitely see a funnel rolling down the treat or one small individual one inside the

bigger one. let's look at what's going on. san jose, looks a little hazy so far this morning. grab the sunglasses, a lot of sunshine, slightly warmer. it will still be comfortable tonight and partly cloudy tomorrow morning and the extended, the heat is going to relax for a few days next week. can't completely get rid of it. here's a look at the cloud cover. you can see by 10:30, 10:00, it's already back to the coast. even by noon at the coast it's starting to break up. it will become mostly sunny here in the afternoon hours. let's take a look at your temperatures. we'll start inland. conco concord, 92. pittsburgh, also 92. walnut creek, 88 cdegrees. sonoma at 88 degrees. find some shade if you're doing wine tasting. san jose, 82 degrees. back to average there. los gatos, 86. milpitas, a little breezy and 76. and along the peninsula, 74, breezy again on both sides. millbrae, 71. half moon bay at 65. pacifica, 64.

and over along the east bay, oakland, 74. if you're standing in the sunshine, it's going to feel warmer. 74 in hayward and richmond, and one more stop, downtown san francisco, 68 degrees. hazy, breezy. marina at 69. same thing in south san francisco. daly city, about 62. sunset, about 65. tonight's temperatures, there you go. about 51 in san rafael, to 60 in antioch. let's step through the seven-day forecast. today, 2 to 3 degrees warmer than yesterday. we'll call it a minor bump up. going to be hot inland saturday as we flirt with 100. close to that sunday. temperature still in the low to mid 90s next week. low 60s at the coast. hope you have a great weekend. here's alexis. >> it is construction season, as you might have guessed. want to zoom in on our traffic maps to one of several projects that should be wrapping up any time. eastbound 80, we had laned down between san francisco up to the island, and actually just a couple minutes ago, i had a

for this weekend. it's crazy. >> san francisco marathon on sunday. buckle up. get ready. >> we'll be talking about all that in the next few minutes. but mike, let's talk about the weather. >> yeah, nothing that will keep you from not going outside, but i guess don't drive outside. >> yeah, that's the key. >> yeah, if you're going to bow out and about on foot, this morning at 7:00, mid 50s to mid 60s. as we head through the 12-hour day planner, 60s to near 70 around the bay at noon. 70s and 80s inland. just a couple degrees warmer at 4:00, and if you're heading out this evening, 60s around the bay, 70s inland, and just a few 80s around antioch and fairfield. when we come back, we know temperatures will be rather hot this weekend in some neighborhoods. i'll map those out for you, and here is the busy alexis smith this morning. >> i'm doing to have all those closures in about 15 minutes, too, and they're on our website if you want to check right now. for now, though, for the moment, we're looking pretty good. southbound 680 through walnut creek, we had the same overnight closure we had two nights ago. however, we did not have the

major backup that we had yesterday morning. those lanes cleared ahead of schedule, so before 5:00 a.m. and we never had a big backup. and looking friday night with our travel times. tracy to dublin, 33 minutes. southbound decision 80 in the green at 16. and northbound 85 between 101 and cupertino at 15 minutes. just hearing about a new crash on northbound 101 in san jose. we'll check on that next. >> on top of the marathon shutdowns we're going to see, we're also seeing a subway shutdown in san francisco. it starts this weekend. muni metro riders won't be able to get on trains for many hours a week. >> it's definitely going to be a headache, but it's for a new thing. it's for muni's new train. so that's the good news. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live in san francisco with the full story. >> reporter: hi, jessica. we're finding some surprise out here. commuters who did not know that this was going to be happening. there are signs posted out here

at the muni station. and we found some commuters reading these signs for the first time this morning. saying they had not seen them before. but the closure starts this weekend. no muni subway service on the weekends. and it will close at 9:30 on the week nights. those people who work on the weekends tell us this is going to be tough. >> i need to take another bus. i don't know what kind of bus i could take. yeah. i work on the weekends. so i don't know. i don't know what i can do. >> you didn't know about this? >> no. >> reporter: here is the reason for this. new muni cars. and they need to test them. they say that these new cars will be safer, more reliable and quieter than the current cars. they will have a bus bridge in place between the stations that are impacted by this. that's between montgomery and the west portal station. this is going to be in place for a month. until august 20th. so go ahead and build this into your plans. there will be some exceptions

like they're going to offer full service for the outside lands music festival. for all of those details and those specifics, go to our website. we have all you need right there at abc7news.com. >> doing it on a marathon weekend. we'll see how that works out. thank you. san francisco police are investigating a deadly stabbing in the hayes valley neighborhood. police found a man stabbed to death on the sidewalk at octavia and lily streets just after 7:00 last night. authorities have not said whether anyone has been arrested. happening today, the man charged with killing kate steinle on pier 14 is due back in court in san francisco. the second degree murder case against juan francisco lopez sanchez could be sent to trial today. there's been a series of hurdles trying to pinpoint a trial date. it seems the prosecutor may have some conflicts. the judge asked attorneys to return today so they can give an update on when they will be ready to proceed. >> this morning, o.j. simpson waking up knowing he is soon going to be a free man. a nevada parole board decided to

release the now 70-year-old former football star, almost nine years after he entered prison for a las vegas robbery. simpson could be released as soon as october 1st. one of simpson's closest friends told "gma" what the former nfl great plans to do when he gets out. >> we first have to go to florida, report to the parole board, i'm sure, and then from there, we're going to go visit his sister in california. we're going to do a road trip. he wants to visit all the people that died while he was in prison. pay his respects. he wants to visit his daughter's grave, he wants to visit nicole's grave. and we're going to spend time with family out there. >> and you can watch the entire interview with two of simpson's friends coming up at 7:00 on "gma." >> another team of firefighters from san mateo county is joining the battle against that major wildfire burning outside yosemite national park. the detwiler fire in mariposa

county has now spread to 71,000 acres this morning. it's only 10% contained. more than 5,000 people are still evacuated. the town of mariposa, colterville, and most surrounding areas remain under full evacuation order. the latest numbers indicate 99 buildings were destroyed. that includ abc7 news was in mariposa county. you can see the charred remains. neighbors are simply devastated. >> it's a mess. one of our friends, clarence, he just lost his house. it burned down. >> difficult time for everybody. this is probably the worst fire we've ever had. and it's nowhere near over yet. >> calfire says the detwiler fire is slowly spreading but remains a big danger because of the hot weather, terrain, and heavy fuels from the wet winter. >> the fire is 35 miles outside of yosemite national park. the park is not in danger of burning. it is open right now, but as you can see from the time lapse video posted on instagram, smoke

and ash is filling the air. visitors are warned about respiratory problems from that smoke. as the fire develops, you can get up to the minute updates throughout the abc7 news app. it's free to download. just remember to epiable push alerts. >> police are investigating more violence involving a group of young people at an east bay b.a.r.t. station. authorities say a man was beaten and kicked in the head yesterday outside the richmond b.a.r.t. station. they say five to six juveniles assaulted the victim at about 11:30 yesterday morning. that victim is expected to survive. officers say they were unable to locate the attackers who escaped in the surrounding neighborhood. >> this morning, police in fremont are searching for an arson suspect caught on camera. they say someone in a silver honda civic burned a neighbor's americans flag. it happened early sunday at a home near mission boulevard. the homeowner told police the suspect came up to the home and burned a flag hanging out front.

>> a san francisco planning commission is calling for a city wide moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries. that came during a request on a proposal to put a cap on dispensaries in the excelsior and mission neighborhoods. they could take into account the coming sale of recreational marijuana. until that happened, a moratorium is better than imposing regulations neighborhood by neighborhood. the board of supervisors will the final say on the moratorium. >> new developments at uc berkeley. college republicans say the school was blocking a conservative speaker from coming to campus. now, the university says that it is working with the student group to bring ben shapiro to cal. the young americas foundation says the former breitbart editor wanted to visit september 14th but campus officials told them all the free venues were booked that day. campus officials say they are going to waive the venue fee for a different auditorium. i want to take a quick look

at the live desk, we're tracking this story. rescuers right now looking for any survivors that are trapped following a 6.5 magnitude earthquake that struck the aegean sea. it was right near the turks coast and the greek island. authorities say at least two people were killed and nearly 200 people hurt. tourists and local residents scrambled out of building. some even having to jump off balconies. tens of thousands of tourists actually spent the night outdoors with many people sleeping on sun beds along the beaches. the british foreign office is warning travelers a lot of brits go to this particular island. they're warning of the possibility of aftershocks. >> scary situation. this morning, the minneapolis police chief is

criticizing one of her oin officers involved in the deadly shooting we have been following. she said officer mohamed noor should not have shot the woman who called 911 last saturday. she said his actions go against how officers are trained. the victim, a 40-year-old yoga instructor from australia, justine damond. they said she did not, quote, have to die. the two officers involved in the sthooting are on paid administrative leave. >> an outpouring of support after the tragic death of lincoln park lead singer chester lincoln park lead singer chester bennington. that's bennington singing at the funeral of his friend soundgarden singer chris cornell. the two were very close. bennington's apparent suicide by hanging is strikingly similar to cornell's. officials say bennington took his own life yesterday at his l.a. home on what would have been cornell's 53rd birthday. fans say bennington's music

needed to listen to my own traffic report. i have lunch plans in san francisco on sunday. i may need to rethink that or at least take b.a.r.t. we have the san francisco marathon this sunday. 27,000 runners, about 80,000 spectators and a lot of road closures for this course, too. first and foremost, northbound lanes of the golden gate bridge fully closed this sunday from 6:00 to 9:00 a.m. those runners will be doing an out and back across the bridge. the southbound lanes will remain open but there's going to be a lot of onlooker delay. plan for some delays if you're coming into the city from the north bay. a lot of surface street cloches that will start at midnight and won't wrap until 2:45 on sunday afternoon. this goes all throughout the city, fisherman's wharf, golden gate parx, and a day game for the giants, too. if you're heading to the game, highly recommend taking mass transit, if you can take the ferry, take b.a.r.t. to the city, and there will be driving
