good morning. thanks so much for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with the forecast. lisa argen is tracking live doppler 7 for us. >> we do have patchy low clouds and fog, but they won't last long. you can see it here from the san mateo coast. and looks clear, 55 in the city, 58 this mountain view, 60 in san jose. slightly warmer in the north bay and a little bit of fog there with 59 by the delta and concord 55 in livermore. so your forecast calling for sunshine with temperatures in the 50s and 60s throughout the morning hours. 60s to 87 today by noontime. so you know that means a hot day in the east bay. you're 100 degrees there and we'll look for still comfortable temperatures at the coast. looks like we'll see more of the

fog return late tomorrow. so that means a slightly cooler sunday. i'll have the details in a few minutes. an oakland man is in jail accused of trying to create social media accounts for isis. and this morning we're learning more about his background. katie utehs spoke with a long time family friend of the terror suspect. >> reporter: we broke the shocking news to allie that a close family friend had been indicted on terrorism charges. >> i feel like crying. i know it will hurt his family. >> reporter: he's known 22-year-old amer sinan al haggagi since he was a boy. the family lived above this market. al haggagi attempted to open social media accounts for the benefit of isis. >> i hope it's something that come up like natural, like it's hard to believe.

>> reporter: in court detention documents, a judge notes that the defendant allegedly went so far as to meet with undercover agents on multiple occasions to plan a potential terrorist attack. al haggagi's attorney says that he is young and naive and it appears that he allowed himself to be drawn into conversations that he should have been far more suspicion of. al haggagi has been in custody in oakland since last november when he was arrested on aggravated identity theft charge. agents say he bought goods using a stolen credit card. he was born in lodi, spent time in yemen as a kid and then attended berkeley high school. al haggagi also taught arabic at a local mosque. the local community watches out for online radicalization. >> tie my son to my hands. it's scary. >> reporter: al haggagi is considered a flight risk and being held without bond. in oakland, katie utehs, abc 7 news.

developing news from the helmand province in afghanistan where a u.s. air strike accidently killed 12 afghan national police personnel. two others were also wounded. in a statement the pentagon said the errant air strike happened during an operation against taliban insurgence. helmand province is where national security forces have been battling to retake territory under the control of the taliban. concerns over possible terrorist attack during tomorrow's san francisco marathon have prompted a partial closure of the golden gate bridge during the race. here is a live look at the iconic span. all northbound lanes will be closed from 6:00 to 9:00 in the morning on sunday. abc 7 news was there as some of the 27,000 racers picked up their bibs. with all those runners hitting the streets, drivers can expect major traffic delays. here is look at the race route in green on your screen. these roads will be closed from 7:00 to noon. and the areas in pink show where traffic can cross but that is

only when there is a break in the race. muni riders can also expect delays. this video shows testing of new subway cars. the testing means several subway stations will partially shut down all day on the weekends and at 9:30 week nights starting today. buses will take passengers between west portal and the embarcadero. testing ends august 20th. the mayor of richmond wants answers after seeing a man being beaten by a group of teens outside the richmond b.a.r.t. station. mayor butt took this picture of the man who was attacked yesterday. the mayor says he called 911, but the operator told him it was a b.a.r.t. problem. he called b.a.r.t. dispatch. b.a.r.t. officers eventually responded, but to make matters worse, he says two b.a.r.t. employees at the scene did nothing to help. >> their secondary job ought to be whatever needs to be done at the time to make the system work.

>> b.a.r.t. police say the two employees are maintenance workers who have no law enforcement training. they say each b.a.r.t. officer is assigned a beat that includes two to three stations. this morning, some people are saying that a section of a bay area coastal highway is too dangerous. highway 1 hugs the coastline and two families are expressing concern after their loved ones veered off the road and into the ocean. lonni rivera shows us what they are doing to prevent similar tragedies. >> reporter: this sign a painful reminder for two families would lost loved ones in similar circumstances. >> both the baby of the family. >> reporter: 22-year-old richard moss was last seen may 25th before he left to drive along the coast to work. his aaa card washed up in late

june on montero state beach. search teams also recently located what is believed to be the wheel of his car. when we arrived, alameda county deputies were using drones, helping san mateo deputies with the search. >> we've had divers, boats. >> reporter: last year deputies say 20-year-old rosy alba was traveling north when her car veered off the highway into the ocean in the same area. >> start planning to put in k rails here so nobody else has to die. >> reporter: rosie's body was found here at the beach, but her car was never located. so far in the moss case they have located some car parts, but his remains have not been found. dan moss is pushing for caltrans to install cement barriers along this stretch. >> he'd just laugh and smile, that's how richard was. just an angel. >> reporter: the moss family hopes that the diligent work of law enforcement and volunteers brings closure. from montero state beach, lonni rivera.

higher humidity should help the firefighters on the detwiler fire. it's grown to 75,000 acres. contain up is up to 25%. 61 homes have been destroyed along with 63 other buildings. evacuation orders for the town of mariposa were lifted yesterday, but some homeowners are returning to find everything burned to the ground giving them a sad new reality. >> how long is this nightmare going to be that you don't have a home. you'll be displaced, you know. and what is going to be home to you or your kids. >> the fire continues to move south away from yosemite national park. for the first time, an albany woman is sharing her story of survival after spending three days in the oregon wilderness. check out this video. the coast guard had to save 40-year-old amy nuttbrock late

the near disaster happened earlier this month. the air canada flight passed over two fully loaded planes on the taxiway. across america this morning, protesters in minneapolis shouted down their mayor demanding her resignation. in that tense exchange, it was minutes after betsy hodges announcement of a new police chief. chief harto announced her resignation. mayor hodges said she lost confidence in the chief's ability to lead after a series of police incidents, including last weekend's killing of justin damond. she had called 911 to report what she believed was a sexual assault. police officers say they thought

damond was ambushing them. newly released surveillance video shows the moment a customer takes on an armed robber at a starbucks in fresno. the video shows a man approached the cash register thursday with a knife and toy gun. the robber demands money from the barista, but when customer craig jerry saw what was happening, he hit the robber in the back with a metal chair. the two began fighting where jerry was stabbed in the neck, but he is expected to recover. >> not something that we recommend. in this case it was a good outcome. no one died. but he very well could have. but nonetheless, he's a hero. no question. >> jerry managed to wrestle the knife away and stab the suspect before he ran away. officers later found the man who reportedly admitted to the crime. thousands of match box 20 and counting crows fans are disappointed this morning.

the bands were supposed to perform at shore line amphitheater last night, but they canceled because of a collapsed roadway. sky 7 was over shore line where live nation discovered a hole in the road that gives bands access to move their equipment to the stage. they decided that metal trench covers couldn't cover it. >> never heard of anything like this. can't unload the equipment? we'll happy carry it, guys. come on. >> exactly. >> so without amplifiers, speakers, you can't have a concert. >> yeah. seems like there should have been better preparation here for that. >> things happen. >> but you have to make sure everything works all the time. >> the show has been rescheduled for tuesday evening, but with a big change.

low 50s in gilroy. 60 in san jose. and from this vantage point, check out the whole in the kroefr cast. you can see mt. tam in the distance. we'll look for temperatures in the mid-50s from novato to santa rosa and livermore, upper 50s. so feels pretty good in ckoconc. but by this afternoon, you will be approaching 100. the good news is today should be the hottest day we'll see in the next send. and you know this is the last full week of july, so we'll be entering into a new month and yes, cooler conditions as we start next week. so we're looking at hot inland this weekend, comfortable near the coast with temperatures coming up just a little bit. but overall, 5 to 10 free of warming away from the shore line and then cooling for monday and tuesday. let's take a look at san jose for the week ahead, average highs should be in the low 80s today, 89 tomorrow, about the same. but then by the early part of

the week, area of low pressure bringing the temperature down everywhere. and then we warm it back up thursday and friday. so the fog isn't going far. as we look at the forecast throughout the morning hours, by noontime, it's still awfully close allowing for a sea breeze. and then 4:00, it's still there. so we'll call it a mix of clouds and sun today. temperatures will stay comfortable, just in the mid-60s. it was in the low 70s yesterday. so very little change today for santa cruz. south bay numbers up 5 to 8 degrees. 93 morgan hill and gilroy. 87 in redwood city. mountain view warming to 84. san francisco 72. away from sunset district, you'll stay in the low to

mid-60s with the fog. and in the north bay, you will feel that warm skrup. you felt it yesterday as the clouds or breeze backed off. that is the key to the warming here with a wind shift, 88 in sonoma, 80 in hayward. so you will warm quickly with mid and upper 90s to near 100 brentwood and antioch, 97 in livermore. so if you are looking at the forecast tomorrow morning for the marathon, not much in the way of fg. mid and upper 50s and low 60s 9:00 to 11:00. santa clara, a toasty one for the soccer match with mid and upper 80s by the afternoon. this weekend warm, and near 100 inland. mid art arou-80s around the bay. tomorrow you will feel the low clouds and fog coming back, so should feel better by the afternoon and cooler mid week. >> sounds good. just ahead, celebrating

there is some confusion in communities across the bay area as residents found out their energy for longer comes from pg&e, but a new clean energy supplier. michael finney has more about what is going on. >> reporter: this postcard just now arriving at san francisco homes about understanding your energy choice.

>> people are surprised because evidently the disclosure has failed. >> reporter: consumer actions says these notices may bewilder customers who didn't realize their electricity is now supplied by clean power sf. communities can create their own clean energy utilities. residents are automatically enrolled unless they specifically opt out. >> that will frustrate consumers and even anger them if they feel like they didn't have a fair say. >> reporter: they say it's the only way to get enough customers to buy power at low enough rates. >> the only thing that changes is that we're putting cleaner energy into pg&e's grid and then they deliver to residents. >> reporter: clean power sf is currently a little cheaper than pg&e and it's being phased in gradually. >> going forward, we expect to enroll all eligible electricity customers.

>> reporter: karl sheehan concedes many are caught by surprise in space of a vigorous ad campaign that includes this billboards and four mailers. also they put out that postcard comparing their rates. with pg&e, the average monthly electric bill is currently $64.70. with clean power sf, it's 7 cents less. a funny thing happened when we asked if clean power sf will be reliable. >> so san francisco like many other cities in northern california -- >> reporter: ironically the lights kept going out on the panel behind him as he spoke. to be fair, it had nothing to do with the electric supply. and everything to do with saving energy. both pg&e and clean power sf offer super green programs with 100% renewable resources. you must proactively opt into

you probably like warm tth of july. we have the typical low clouds and fog here. but we'll get partly sunny skies, so that means a mix of some sunshine and temperatures on the comfortable side. 55 in the city. 60 in san jose. mountain view, 58 for you. 57 in oakland. and from mt. tam, there it is, the marine layer intact. so you're starting out cool with mid-50s. and it will be a quick warm-up from the 50s now to near 100 degrees about so that notice the fog doesn't pull away too far from the coast, so we'll keep it cool and partly cloudy with temperatures climbing quickly though upper 80s by thonoontime inland and comfortable 60s at the coast. but changes begin as soon as tomorrow. i'll have them for you in a few minutes. now to a major shakeup at the white house. it's been six months since president trump took office, and press secretary sean spicer is out. in an interview with abc news,

spicer said he's, quote, relieved about his resignation. jonathan karl has more. >> reporter: just six months into the job, president trump's embattled press secretary called it quits. sean spicer's brief tenure got off to a bad start. >> this was the largest audience to witness an inauguration period both this person and around the globe. >> reporter: spicer's debut made nobody happy. the president didn't like his look, including the ill fitting suit. and others criticized his inaccuracies or as another aide called them -- >> sean spicer gave alternative facts. >> reporter: two days later, he took his first questions. i asked a basic one. >> is it your intention to always tell the truth from that podium and will you pledge never to knowingly say something that is not factual? >> it is. it's an honor to do this and,

yes, i believe that we have to be honest with the american people. >> reporter: history will judge whether he lived up to that, but his confrontational style -- >> sorry, please stop shaking your head again. somebody is asking a question. it's not your press briefing. you don't get to just yell out questions. we will raise our hands like big boys and girls. >> reporter: and the unforgettable snl parity. >> i want to apologize on behalf of you to me. >> reporter: made sean spicer a celebrity. the most mocked, but also the most famous press secretary ever. he was totally blindsided by the president's choice of a new communications director. slamming the door in my face when i went up to ask him about it. hours later, as spicer slipped out of the west wing, the all smiles appearance of the new hire, anthony scaramucci, setting an entirely different tone. >> i'll get to everybody. don't worry. >> reporter: he's a wealthy financier, friend of the president, but in the early days

of the campaign, he called trump a hack politician and worse. >> you can tell donald i said this, the queen county bullies association, you have to cut it out now and stop all this crazy rhetoric. >> does he know what you said about him back this 2015 when you said he was a hack? >> he brings it up every 15 seconds. one of the biggest mistakes that i made because i was an unexperienced person in the world of politics. i was supporting another candidate. i should have never said that about him. so mr. president, i personally apologize for the 50th time. >> reporter: and we asked the same question we asked sean spicer. >> there is a question about credibility, some things that have been said in this room. is it your commitment to the best of your ability to give accurate information, the truth from that podium? >> i sort of feel like i don't even have to answer that question. i hope you can feel that from me just from high body language, that is the kind of person i am. i'll do the best i can. >> reporter: jonathan karl, abc news. a justice department

spokesperson is questioning the credibility of a new report that says jeff sessions discussed the 2016 campaign with russia's ambassador to the u.s. the "washington post" says two conversations between sessions and sergey kislyak were intercepted by u.s. spy agencies. they reportedly discussed u.s./russian relations under a possible trump administration. sessions initially failed to disclose that he even met with kislyak during the campaign. this is a white house photo of the president shaking hands with the ambassador in the oval office. the justice department spokesperson called the story wholly uncorroborated. now to the russia investigation. abc news has learned that special counsel robert mueller is telling white house aides not to destroy any documents related to that trump tower meeting with a russian lawyer and this new question, could the president pardon himself or his family? senior white house correspondent cecilia vega has more.

>> reporter: the white house facing questions about whether president trump is considering pardoning his family or himself. his lawyers give a firm denial, but the new press secretary seems to leave the door open. >> he maintains pardon powers, but there are no planned announcements on that front. >> reporter: it comes as the white house turns up the heat on robert mueller, accusing him and his team of conflicts of interest telling the "new york times" he interviewed mueller for the job of fbi director just one day before he was appointed special counsel. >> you talk about conflicts, he was interviewing for the job. >> reporter: the president adding that there were many other conflicts that i haven't said, but i will at some point in some and he's warning mueller that investigating trump family finances not tied to russia would cross a red line. >> i think that is a violation. this is about russia.

>> reporter: as for mueller's fate if he crosses that red line? >> i can't answer that question because i don't think it will happen. >> reporter: but mueller not backing down. abc learned he sent a letter to white house aides ordering them to preserve all communications including documents, e-mails and text messages related to last year's trump tower meeting involving don junior ", paul manafort, jared kushner and that russian lawyer promising dirt on hillary clinton. cecilia vega, abc news. back here in california, a long beach man says he has a winning ticket, but the lottery commission won't pay up. the reason? his son bought the ticket and his son is not old enough to play. our sister station in los angeles has the story. >> reporter: it's an american dream, striking it rich with a lottery ticket. but while most are able to cash in, a long beach man's winning lottery ticket is now coming up

snake eyes. the ticket in question was a california scratcher bought at this mobil station on bellflower boulevard last october. but ward thomas, the man with the ticket, says the lottery commission is refusing to pay him the $5 million prize. >> why is that? >> reporter: here's the rub. according to a lawsuit, thomas sent his 16-year-old son in to cash in other tickets and use some of the winners to buy more scratchers. and so since the 16-year-old bought the ticket, it is null and void. >> if they took the money, they are obligated to pay as far as i'm concerned. if they didn't check their i.d., then they should have checked their i.d. customer like liquor. >> reporter: a big talker on the street, but not amongst the participants. thomas' attorney didn't return our messages.

the commission refused to comment on pending litigation and the mobil station also named in the lawsuit isn't talking either. everyone else, though, seems to have an opinion. >> i go by the law. the law is the law. they should pay it out. >> what are they going to do with the $5 million? >> reporter: the lawsuit alleges that there were no signs mentioning lottery age restrictions, no one told the boy he was too young to buy and no one checked his age before selling those tickets. >> if you win $5 million, does it matter if it's the son or the father's? if it's not 18, it should go to the parent. you can do other stuff with parental appear mission. >> reporter: rob hayes, abc 7 news. still ahead on abc 7 mornings, this high tech truck can bake a pizza as it drives to you. and it's not necessarily a person who is putting it together. but first, here is a live look

expected return of sandoval, we remember back to a time when the giants used to beat the padres like a drum. it was only two years ago. those days are over, but late drama last night. yesterday was national junk food day. giants blew a 4-0 lead. sanchez continues to destroy his old team. sanchez with four homers. top of seven, will myers bombs away. padres come all the way back and build a 9-6 lead and then the giants answer with three in the bottom of the ninth, gillaspie, mr. clutch, a two run homer and we are tied at nine. so they go to extras. and here's how it ended. >> base hit to right field. so that will knock in a run and it's a three run 11th inning

disappointing loss for this team that had 4-0 lead and they couldn't hold on. >> as in new york, cespedes saying he wants to finish his career as an "a." bottom of the second, it's 2-1 mets. healy takes a rocket in the temple. hopes to play today. still bottom of six, bases loaded, as up 3-2, he tags out the runner and then throws to the bermuda triangle. that rolls forever. so a little league homer for rivera and mets win 7-5. aaron judge just hit a ball that putin picked up on russia radar. this is almost clear out of safeco field. went so high stat cast couldn't even measure it.

yankees tweeting it was a home run that broke stat cast. judge's first since the all-star break and yankees win it by 5-1. the warriors domination is driving the rest of the nba crazy. paul george talked his way out of indy and now kyrie irving wants out of cleveland. he told the cavaliers to trade him. apparently he does not want to be in lebron's shadow even more. and if lebron leaves for l.a., he does not want to be stuck rebuilding in cleveland. irving averaged 25 points a game last year and when he goes into that uncle drew mode, he's basically unstoppable. his reported number one choice for a trade would be to the spurs. warriors don't want to see that. that's a wrap on morning sports. have a great weekend, everybody. i'm larry beil.

58 in mountain view. san jose, 60 for you. a warm-up in store as much as 5 to 8 degrees in the south bay. and golden gate bridge still gray, but we will see sunshine here. 55 in santa rosa as well as livermore, so comfortably cool start. concord checking in at 59. and just 52 in novato. numbers this morning just a couple degrees warmer in the north bay. emeryville, nice and sunny, temperatures up 4 or 5 degrees today for you. hot inland this weekend, comfortable near the coast, but gradual cooling. monday into tuesday for our friends in the far east bay that will be sweating it out today and tomorrow. here is sunday with mid-90s. you can see the reds, dark orange, that is an indicator of the hot temperatures. but around the bay and the coast, we're comfortable. 60s and 70s. look what happens on monday. back into the 80s for most of you inland. not too hard to take. and by tuesday, the temperatures are pretty steady here. so we will look for just the heat this weekend for most of
