details. good evening. >> reporter: hi, kate. the families mean business. they want the safety measured between the tom landos tunnels and montara state beach where some have lost their lives. >> we don't want anyone else dying. >> this was hard to miss. and that was the point. >> just being out here today, we have a lot of visibility. >> reporter: the group led by dan moss wants more safety barriers. barriers which may have saved the life of his son who vanished while driving to work on may 25th. a tire believed to be from his car was located off the side of the cliff last week. >> there could be 82 reasons why richard's car crashed and went over the edge. i don't know what they are. it doesn't matter because if there was a barrier there, he would have had to get himself a new car and maybe go to the hospital. but the result is death. >> she basically went over the cliff. >> reporter: 20-year-old rose

dealba died when her car crashed off of highway 1. >> i believe her life could have been saved as well as richards. >> this is an issue until we sort of get a response from caltrans. >> reporter: caltrans did respond to our request for answers. >> it is not a matter of going out there and set up barriers overnight with no preparation. there is a lot -- even with temporary barriers there are procedures have you to follow. >> reporter: until permanent barriers are built, they want to see temporary barriers put up as soon as possible. abc 7 news. there are no signs of foul play in the death of actor john heard from the medical examiner's office. he died at a palo alto hotel where he was recovering from back surgery. he is best known for his roles in home alone and sopranos and he is survived by three children and 71 years old.

a driver accused of plowing into two women as they stepped out of an uber is facing charges tonight. impact ripped the door off the minivan the women had just exited. it happened in via don'tera just after 3:00 this morning. the viebctims and four friends d just enjoyed a evening out. >> they had a uber ride and a couple of seconds later a car comes driving down the street and runs away. smacked right into them. it was a silver charger and just kept on going like it was nothing. >> police found the driver nearby just a few minutes later. that 20-year-old man faces accusations of hit-and-run, dui and driving without a license. the women are expected to recover. oakland police have not yet said if two recent robberies of film crews at gunpoint are linked to one another. first happened on monday. one of the victims of the second robbery described what happened

yesterday afternoon. >> i pulled the car inside of the vacant lot and we were shooting in and at that point two armed men crawled under a hole in the fence that was hidden behind a homeless man's encampment and chased after us bear bearan style. >> and someone broke into both the crew's van and suv. they ran off after the security guard drew his gun. but they did make off with $25,000 worth of gear. developing news in southern california. as you could see, a wildfire threatening homes in highland, in san bernardino county. so far the flames have burned more than 100 acres. it broke out just about three hours ago. and firefighters are battling the flames well enduring 90 degree heat right now. a live look at scene. air tankers and helicopters are helping fight the fire. so far officials have not said what sparked those flames but we'll have an update on abc 7

news at 6:00. in develops news now, a firefighters recovering after being injured while battling this wildfire near yosemite national park. he was airlifted to a fresno hospital after a fire truck crashed yesterday morning. he is expected to be okay. the fire has charred more than 117 square miles. containment is now at 30%. 61 homes have already been destroyed in the fire. and 1500 more structures are currently threatened. but evacuation orders for the town of mara posa were lifted yesterday and the fire continues to move south away from yosemite. a scare overnight for neighbors in alameda forced to stay inside as police responded to a report of a man with a gun. officers responded to a house on pearl street near otis drive and a standoff followed. officers though determined no crime was actually committed and say they offered help for the family involved. the shelter in place order lasted for about two hours beginning around midnight and

today police issued an apology to neighbors after not alerting people that the order was actually lifted until around 11:00 a.m. new details now on that close call involving an air canada fly at sfo. sources close to the investigation tell the mercury news the pilot could direct him to the correct runway and instead he nearly landed on a crowded taxiway this month. it passed over two fully loaded planes that were there on the taxi. this weekend president trump is focusing on the military. the effort comes amid a storm of tweet this is morning and a staff shake-up on his communications team. david wright has the story from washington. >> reporter: president trump, the uss gerald ford, the most advanced aircraft carrier ever built. >> this ship also ensures that

this hour. just a little bit of it on the bottom of your screen and that is creating very warm temperatures even in san francisco. right now we're at 72 in san francisco. 80 in oakland. gow inland and we are warm to hot. 99 that current number in concord. 100 in fairfield. toasty in san jose at 89 and 87 current number in napa. future weather, as we go hour by hour through 9:00, later on tonight, you could see still see we are holding on to the warmth away from the coast in the 60s and 70s. and we're going to have a south wind tonight. and what that will do, that will push a lot of that fog moving in through the golden gate, actually into the north bay. so areas like napa, santa rosa, a little bit more in the way of cloud cover overnight than compared to fremont and san jose. so here is the cool. overnight we have the coastal cloud cover building right back in the south wind and pushing the cloud cover into richmond, vallejo and santa rosa and overnight dropping into 60, 61. most spots around the immediate bay waters will fall into the

everybody loves a comeback story and that is exactly what the giants are hoping for. today they made it official. signing pablo sandoval to a minor league contract. he still has work to do to get back up to the big leagues. he made waves with a parting shot toward former teammates when he left for boston and today he apologized and also said he wished had he resigned with the organization two years ago but he's looking forward to returning to the giants' dugout.
