the soccer match between the u.s. and jamaica tonight at levi's stadium. mass transit the way to go. vta will be running extra trains, extra train cars. ambassadors onhand to assist so that should be fairly easy for you tonight. also adding extra buses as needed. that is 55, 57, and 251. all those lines stop nearby levi's stadium. and caltrain, you can take that to santa clara station and then ace train to the stadium as well from there. now, that is the mass transit side of things. we know a lot of fans will be driving too. 55,000 are expected to attend tonight's match. that starts at 6:30, the impact on traffic around levi's going to start earlier. matt keller is at levi's stadium with what to be ready for, hey, matt. >> reporter: hey, alexis. we're used to traffic around levi's stadium for 49ers games on the weekends. but this is a wednesday night. we've got great america going on all day long. open 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. then we have the gold cup. they're here together, and you

messages onto san francisco's federal building on mission street. they included messages like trumpcare kills and the hashtag, #killthebill. >> the controversial issue of drones and how they're used will be discussed when the fire commission meets. privacy advocates say strict policies have to be in place to prevent invading someone's personal space. the fire department has to balance that against its need to look at things from above, whether it be actual fires, search and rescue missions or to shoot video of training sessions. >> the sonoma county sheriff's office wants you to look at this photo in the hopes you can identify a bank robbery suspect. deputies say the suspect hit a bank in sonoma around noon yesterday. this surveillance image showing a man wearing a mesh type mask over his face, dark colored baseball cap and green long sleeve shirt. if you recognize this person at all, call the sonoma county sheriff's office. attorney general jeff sessions is upping the stakes in

the trump administration's battle against sanctuary cities including san francisco, oakland, and richmond. they could lose federal grants if they fail to comply with new conditions from the justice department. the conditions include giving agents access to local jails and notifying federal officials two days before releasing anyone wanted by immigration authorities. until now, sanctuary cities have only the to show they weren't preventing local law enforcement from communicating with federal agents about the immigration status of people they detained. victims of the detwiler fire in mariposa county are starting to rebuild their lives and replace property destroyed by the wildfire. an assistance center has opened up at a local high school. that's where people affected by the fire can apply for government loans and find out more about other services to help them recover. the fire destroyed 63 homes. it is still burning. it's only 65% contained. the flames have charred more than 123 square miles sin breaking out ten days ago. >> changes keep coming to uber.

clara. northbound 101 near great america parkway. started off with a mir sadies that rear ended a tanker truck. the suv on its side tried to avoid the crash and flipped over. three people were transported to the hospital. fortunately, doesn't sound like serious injuries and the tanker truck didn't have major damage either. no fuel spill, no threat of gas leaks or anything like that. that cleared just before the commute started this morning right around 4:00 a.m. and right now, looking pretty good with the exception of southbound 880. we're in recovery mode here near alvarado niles road. we had a four-car crash. that clears to the shoulder, but a new crash within the backup, southbound 880. new collision blocking the left lane. and a new problem across the san mateo bridge at 6:20. >> thanks. police are warning about a scam involving virtual kidnapping. what officials are saying about that. >> and caught right before takeoff. the incredible bust at a bay

collapsed. two people had to be rescued in this. everyone is accounted for this morning. that's the good news. you can see the damage, though, left behind. witnesses say they heard a loud crack and then what sounded like an avalanche. it all came coming down. a woman who lives inside the home says there didn't appear to be any damage in the last few days prior to the collapse. so pretty sudden. we'll keep trackig the story. >> palo alto police are warning about a telephone scam this morning. it involves a demand for ransom in exchange for the return of a family member. police say typically, the con artist claims the victim's loved one has been involved in a car crash. how awful. the suspect says his car has been damaged and demands money or else the victim's loved one will be kidnapped and harmed. police say do not get involved in this. don't wire transfer money or give anyone personal information over the phone. instead, hang up and give police a call. an extension to california's landmark cap and trade law is

official this morning. abc7 news was on treasure island as governor brown signed the bill in the exact spot where former governor arnold schwarzenegger signed the original bill in 2006. it requires polluters to get permits for every metric ton of kaurben dioxide emitted. it's the only program of its kind in the country. the governor says it's serving as a model around the world. uber has rolled out more improvements for drivers. and it's part of a six-month campaign which started with adding a tipping feature to the ride sharing app. this time, uber has introduced 24/7 phone support. drivers should be able to reach anyone at any time within two minutes to represolve issues. ewer will also pay drivers and charge riders for returning forgotten items. >> berkeley celebrating the launch of a bike sharing program. by the end of the year, berkeley will have 39 ford go bike

stations with 450 bikes total. that bike share system is undergoing a big expansion. we have been talking about it a lot. they're in oak lrnd, emeryville, san jose, and san francisco. prices for the bike shares range from $3 for a single 30-minute ride to $150 for an annual pass. >> new developments in the push to rename justin herman plaza. justin herman ran the redevelopment agency in san francisco. in that role, he led effortses to demolish thousands of black-owned homes and businesses in the fillmore district. that's why aaron peskin introduszed legislation to remove his name from the plaza and instead call it embarcadero plaza until a new name can be announced. one name fleeted is poet maya angelou who was a muni driver. >> happening today, abc7 taking part in a hire live job fair in san francisco. a great place to meet employers who are hiring or shop around

at first glance, it looks like this surfing is riding a wave on the ocean. when it zooms out, you see this is the sacramento river in redding. the location is at a spillway that you can usually see, but heavy rain this winter led to the water rising over the spillway and creating this snaun stop wave. the crew filmed this earlier in the year and just released the footage. they say when this was filmed, the water was quite cold. when you live hours from the ocean, it's a real treat to have the waves come to you. that's just incredible. i love that video. okay, time to ask finney this morning. donovan from vallejo has a question about parking tickets. he spoke to us at our ask finney event in daly city. seven on your side's michael finney has your answer. >> how do you fight a ticket that you did get on your car or the subsequent notices in mail, and was given on a sunday in san

we're tracking a lot of breaking news right now. but of course, also weather and traffic. >> yeah, let's talk about what's going to happen today because today marks the beginning of the warming trend that's going to bring real heat to our inland neighborhoods. let's look at what's going on with your 12-hour day planner. you can see the cloud cover in gray. temperatures in the upper 50s to mid 60s. warmer than yesterday. already showing signs of the warming trend beginning this morning. upper 60s to low 70s around the bay at noon. mid 70s, a few low 80s inland, by 4:00, more 80s, even a few 90s in the east bay. 70s around the bay, and 60s at the coast. then we'll have 60s and 70s for the bay and inland as we head to a very comfortable evening. i'll have more on the heat wave coming up next. how about the morning commute? >> i want to take you to the bay bridge. we swung our emeryville camera around and pointed it at the incline here. we did have a crash reported before you get into the yerba buena tunnel there. and i did see some flashing lights in the left lane a few moments ago. i'm not seeing that right now.

it is hazy. hopefully that means it's cleared. i want to flip over to the traffic maps and show you the impact there. i think we had at least had something blocking for a short time that backup basically erged with the typical delays out of the toll plaza. next traffic update in less than ten minutes. we want to begin with this big breaking news out of the white house. president trump tweeting just moments ago that transgender people will not be allowed to serve, quote, in any capacity in the u.s. military. here is the president's announcement. it's his tweet saying after consultation with my generals and military experts, please be advised that the united states government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the u.s. military. our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption the transgender in the military

would entail. thank you. the human rights campaign, a gay rights advocacy group is already responding this morning to that announcement as well as several other prominent lawmakers. that particular group is calling on the president and his announcement attacking the transgender community. they say it's an attack. they say mr. trump is, quote, undermining our military. and again, reaction is just starting to come in. those tweets went out just a few moments ago. we're going to track the story and will have updates as the newscast continues. >> going to continue with more local news now. protesters angry over the approval of a new planned parenthood in san francisco are taking out their anger using chalk. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield live at city hall with more on that story. amy. >> reporter: yeah, the messages were controversial, but the technique was not harmful. this is all because of a vote that happened here from the san francisco planning commission. take a look at the messages that were left behind. the protesters wrote on the

sidewalk in chalk, anti-abortion messages. this happened outside the homes of two missioners. dennis richards and another who wanted to remain anonymous. some of the messages said save the babies. baby killer, and richards kills. richards told the san francisco examiner he is worried this could escalate. neighbors told the examiner they saw about 40 young kids and 3 adults swarm the neighborhood tuesday afternoon and write the messages. they have surveillance video of it happening. the question is, if this rises to the level of vandalism since they wrote it in chalk. but the police have been contacted. the commission voted unanimously to allow a new planned parenthood flagship location here in san francisco. ironically, dennis richards was on vacation and did not cast a vote. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> all right, amy, thank you. happening today, senate republicans will hold another vote to try to repeal obamacare, but experts think the outcome

will be the same as we saw yesterday. >> many republicans hoping for a boost from the return of cancer-stricken arizona senator john mccain to the senate. unfortunately for the gop, their most comprehensive plan to date fell far short of the numbers needed to pass last night. they only got 47 votes. they needed 60. today, there's another vote scheduled. a slightly different plan. this would just repeal obamacare and replace it later. it gives congress two years to build a new health care plan. >> happening today, the metropolitan transportation commission scheduled to discuss a proposal to increase most bay bridge tolls by $3. it would fund more than $4 billion in regional transportation projects. state lawmakers would need to approve the measure, and the governor would have to sign off on it. then it would go to voters so this is a multi-step process. happening today, the latest suspect arrested in the beating death of an 88-year-old san jose

woman is going to hear formally what charges are against him. this is 19-year-old johnny brown. take a look here at your screen. santa clara county sheriff's deputies captured him yesterday. 88-year-old flo douglas died about a month after she was attacked in september. friends lovingly called her ms. flo. detectives believe brown who you just saw and another man by the name zachary quen broke into her home, beat douglas and robbed the longtime church volunteer. also notable that two other people are accused of trying to cover up the crime. the central california woman who live streamed a deadly car crash on instagram is scheduled to make her first court appearance today. 18-year-old obdulia sanchez was arrested on suspicion of dui and vehicular manslaughter for the death of her sister, 14-year-old jacqueline. she was in the back seat when it crashed, so was another teen. the other teen survived.

the stockton teen refused to submit to a chemical test and did not cooperate with officers. >> what we would do in this incident normally is author a search warrant to draw the suspect's blood. but in this case, the hospital that we were at would not do that. >> investigators believe sanchez was under the influence of alcohol. prosecutors say the instagram video is going to be a key piece of evidence in the case. in it, sanchez is heard saying she expects to spend the rest of her life in prison. >> u.s. and australian agents made a huge drug bust in santa rosa, finding a whopping 560 pounds of methamphetamine inside a storage facility. look at these pictures that we have. it's a stunning amount. authorities actually say it was a 72-year-old australian man who was behind this, who planned to buy a plane, fly the drugs from sonoma county airport all the way to australia, which would be an extraordinary trip even for an experienced pilot, which the man was not, according to

officials. the stockpile of drugs is worth more than $200 million american dollars if sold on the australian black market. >> san francisco's office of cannabis is official this morning, the board of supervisors gave final approval yesterday. they're now going to consider a moratorium on permits for new medical marijuana dispensaries in the city. the board is trying to address new issues arising prior to the sale of recreational pot, which will happen in january. one of those issues is whether medical weed dispensaries will convert to adult use and the permits they might need. supervisors did approve a cap on pot dispensaries in district 11 which already has five of them. >> a member of the oakland city council facing a fine for violating its ethics code. they charge her with conflict of interest for pressuring the planning commission for stopping construction of five town house units next to her home in oakland. she faces a fine of nearly

$6,000. she denies any wrongdoing. the ethics commission takes up the issue next week. >> new details san francisco plans to omen a 24-hour homeless resource center in the tenderloin has stalled. the examer reports the board of supervisors postponed the proposal after a backlash over the lack of outreach. they want to turn their office into a resource center with laundry services, showers and bathrooms. city officials would purchase the space from the housing authority. the board vote was rescheduled. it will take place now on september 12th. a san francisco chinatown shop owner used a bamboo kung fu stick to defend himself against a man who punched him. it happened sunday in a shop on grand avenue. thomas baker began throwing hats on the ground when 86-year-old owner charles lue confronted him, he got punched in the face. that's when lue sprang into action. >> because he was mad. he was really mad. he said after he hit him, he got

really mad, so that's when he went for the stick and started hitting him. he hit him like that. >> how many times? >> just a couple times. some of them, they're feisty. they'll fight back for their things. yeah, and dhar rr sick and tired of being victimized. >> officers caught baker a few blocks away. an electrical problem now being blamed for leaving nine people stuck on a ride at gilroy gardens. sky 7 was overhead as firefighters worked to free the riders on the sky trail monorail inside the greenhouse yesterday afternoon. the gilroy fire department says there was a dead rail preventing the cars from moving. firefighters used ropes and ladders to pull the cars to an area where the passengers could findally get off safely. no one was hurt. in the south bay, the santa clara water district is partnering with the u.s. army corps of engineers looking into a flood study. district officials hope to reduce flood risks along coyote creek in san jose. the corps accepted the water

59, alameda. lafayette, 58, along with novato and san francisco. livermore right now, a quick look at today's forecast, you can see temperatures in the 70s and 80s around the bay, and 90s inland. a small jump, but nothing like the heat i have coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. it looks like you have found an accident and have an update for us. >> i, things are looking better on the bay bridge. kind of hard to tell, a little hazy on the bay bridge here this morning. but we did swing our emeryville camera around, and about ten minutes ago, it looked like we had flashing light in the left lane. chp never arrived on the scene before the collision cleared. it sounded really minor. we did have some backups on the incline as you head in towards yerba buena island and treasure island there, but we are feeling the impact just a little bit. here's a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. you're down to about 15 minutes there from the maze into san francisco. once you make it through the toll booth. so shouldn't be a major problem. i think we're going to bounce back. i think it's cleared early enough and we have light enough summer volumes that it's going to be okay.

delay a policy allowing transgender troops to enlist. defense secretary jim mattis says he wanted to give the services time to insure the change won't affect the readiness of the force. but this is certainly a drastic measure. we're going to continue monitor the story because there is reaction coming in from both sides. >> 6:46. to a story you'll see only here. we hear from the former santa clara county correctional officer on trial, accused of assaulting an inmate. the judge declared a mistrial yesterday after the jury deadlocked. 11 of 12 jurors found that tim tri was not guilty of assaulting an inmate in 2013. because the district attorney could decide to retry the case, tri won't comment on what happened during the confrontation with the inmate. his attorney says the former deputy was trying to save his partner's life after an inmate attacked him. he did tell us this about being a correctional officer. >> the job is already tough. you're not dealing with regular

people. this is bad people outside that are coming in and we had to take care of what we had to do. >> the district attorney's office told abc7 news it's reviewing its options. new york governor andrew cuomo has given the okay for a state legislators to consider approving what's being called the textalyzer. as the name suggests, the textalyzer is a device that allows police to determine whether a motorist is involved in a crash and was texting while driving. the device analyzes drivers' cell phones to see if they were used just prior to the crash. as wyou can imagine, there are numerous privacy and constitutional questions regarding the use of such a device. that is certainly being debated right now. >> an exciting day for soccer fans here in the bay area. it could end up being a trying one for a lot of the rest of us. big game for team usa comes to levi's stadium at just about the worst possible time. >> yeah, going to be a headache. abc7 news reporter matt keller is live in santa clara this

morning. matt. >> reporter: yeah, jessica and reggie. right on a wednesday night, a lot of traffic here anyway during the commute hours. the game starts at 6:30 for the gold cup finals between the u.s. and jamaica. if you're coming here, get here early. if you don't have to be here, stay away. great america is going to be open all day from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. that's going to bring in a lot of traffic. you have the gold cup here at levi's stadium. you have a lot of fan events here in the parking lot before the game. a lot of people will be here, and you know what that means. increased traffic starting at about 1:30 this afternoon and lasting until long after the game is over, around 9:30. might even be worse than usual. santa clara police are warning you, law enforcement is unable to implement counterflow for this event, so expect major traffic delays at the end of the game when everyone is trying to get home at the same time. several streets will be closed, including tasman drive around levi's stadium starting at 9:30 this morning. the game starts at 6:30 tonight.

brighter everywhere except at the coast, where the clouds are going to go for their lunch time. hi, everybody. here's a look at the golden gate. as we expected, the clouds are starting to lower down onto the deck. up until 9:00, expect the visibility to get worse while the rest of us are turning over to sunshine during the morning hours. warming trend begins today. heat will hold inland, but go to the coast for free air conditioning. there's going to be a 30 to 40 degree spread between the two entities over the weekend. let's take a look at your highs in the south bay. 78 in milpitas. 82, santa clara, to near 90 in los gatos, morgan hill, and gilroy. 72 at millbrae to 83 in redwood city. those are your extremes on the peninsula. temperatures around 64 to 65, maybe even 66 along the coast. pushing 70 in downtown. south san francisco. and if you're going to the day game today, 12:45 first pitch, 62. wrapping up around 3:45 at about 67 degrees with sunshine and breezy conditions. so that will make it feel a little more comfortable than if
