♪ live where you live, this is "abc 7 news." ♪ seats snap off as a carnival ride malfunctions, killing a man at the ohio state fair. tonight, california fairs and amusement parks are taking recautions to prevent another tragedy. good evening and thank you for joining us, i'm ama daetz. >> i'm larry beil, in for dan ashley. that is called the fire ball. 13 revolutions per minute. the orange county shut down a ride called the g force. it says it is similar to the fire ball. no problems were reported there but it is being reinspect. a spokes woman for the california state far fair in sa sacramento says its fire ball was closed as a precaution. looking live at the -- we apologize, we lost the signal for you there.

inspectors will check out the fire ball in the morning. this is after an 18-year-old was killed when the ride malfunctioned at the ohio state fair. >> abc reporter maggie rulli has more. >> reporter: riders on the fireball enjoying a night out at the ohio state fair when all of a sudden things went horribly wrong. witnesses say several riders thrown into the air. some of the victims landing on the hard fair ground asphalt. >> multiple passengers were ejected at high speed with high energy. many feet, at least 20 or 30 if not more into the air, and then crashed at a significant distance from the ride. >> reporter: state troopers and police sealed off the area. victims were rushed to columbus area hospitals. >> one person has been -- is deceased as a result of this incident. we also have additionally seven other persons who are injured. three of those are in critical

conditions. >> reporter: ohio governor john kasich reacted swiftly, ordering all fair rides be shut down until additional safety inspections can be completed. >> and then beyond that we want to know about what's the process for inspection. >> reporter: local media reports that ride inspections were held on monday. investigators on the scene are still trying to determine what caused this terrible accident. the ohio state fair kicked off wednesday and was supposed to run through august 6th. maggie rulli, abc news, new york. >>. now, the fireball is scheduled to be at the sonoma county fair which opens next week, but the website says the rides are subject to change. happening now, you might hear loud bangs near broadway plaza in walnut creek, but it is a training deal. police and firefighters are participating. it is scheduled to go until about 2:00 a.m. streets around broadway plaza are closed. >> beat jamaica in the gold cup

pride flag tonight. it has been an emotional day of protest that started in castro and ended here at civic center. >> we know our love is greater than that hate. >> reporter: the lgbtq community feared things would be different under a trump presidency, but the news this morning still came as a shock. >> i couldn't believe it. i -- i called him up, i said, is this true? you know, what's going on? and it is true. >> reporter: mr. trump's announcement over twitter that transgender people can no longer serve in the military drew hundreds of protesters at harvey mill plaza in the castro. >> we don't always focus on the t as much as we do the l and g so i think it is important for us to be their allies an march with them. >> reporter: parents jen babbock and jen made sure to bring their children. >> we talked about like if they're on the playground and someone is making fun of one of their friends or being mean to one of their friends they have to stand up for them. i think it is not exactly the

same, but just important to stand up for other people. >> what do we feel? >> stand up, fight back. >> reporter: the message was clear, continue the fight. more so than they ever have before. trans rights are human rights. >> we need to be committed to standing up for lgbt rights. we cannot be deterred. donald trump is strong, i am strong. >> reporter: strong and united, a community emboldened. in san francisco, lilian kim, "abc 7 news." tomorrow the senate is expected to take up a marathon voting session on health care. sources tell abc news it could include a skinny repeal bill that only gets rid of the individual and employer mandates. some san francisco participated in a march for solidarity. "abc 7 news" was at san francisco hospital where people joined in holding hands. it was organized by invisible sf. court documents unsealed in

a deadly home invasion reveal an extensive plot against an 88-year-old woman. according to the documents, johnny brown and zachary cuen planned to ransack her home. they say they plan it along with the man that lived across the street from douglas. they didn't expect her to be home but shelves. she told police two men attacked her after demanding money. she died a few weeks later from her injuries. in a jail house interview, brown said he's innocent. >> whoever did it, they need to speak up, speak up and say what they did because i was not there that night. this is very sad i'm being arrested for something i did not do. >> reporter: but prosecutors say brown confessed to his girlfriend. she and cuen's girlfriend are charged as accessories to the crime. brown's mother is also facing charges. >> an australian man is in serious legal trouble for trying to carry out an international drug smuggling operation aboard a small plane he bought in santa

rosa. the plan here was to fly 500 pounds of methamphetamine from the airport in sonoma county all the way to melbourne, australia with a pit stop in hawaii. est mapted street value of the drugs, $200 million. the accused smuggler, 72-year-old hugh gorman, also known as john, was arrested at the melbourne airport. the sonoma county sheriffs say the dea found the drugs during a raid of the windsor storage facility in june. the man gorman bought the single engine cessna from is stunned with the allegations and says the plan would never have worked. >> we didn't know anything that he was going to install an extra 500 to 600 pounds worth of cargo. if he would have done that with the fuel load and taken off here, he never would have left the airport. the plane would have crashed uon take-off. >> nicolas says gorman was the worst pilot he has ever flown with. >> the metropolitan transportation commission tonight took another step toward a proposal that would hit
