100s are coming back to some neighborhoods. it's going to be an extended period of warmer than average weather. here's a look at live doppler 7. i overlaid the clouds. they're patchy compared to yesterday. right now, carl the fog and golden gate bridge, they're sharing a moment together this morning. you can see how foggy it is there. let's overlay your 12-hour day planner. 53 to 61, that's the comfort geswge jessica was talking about. 75 to 82 around the bay. 88 to 98 inland, and then mainly in the 70s and 80s at 7:00. so a little warmer this evening. i'll take a look at that extended period of warm weather coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. how about the commute this morning? >> we're looking at the san mateo bridge, not looking too bad here on the hayward side. but we did have a disabled vehicle reported right around foster city. i'm working to confirm that, could be a little backed up as we make it closer to the midspan. as of right now, not looking terrible if you're coming from the east side. quick check of mass transit, b.a.r.t., a tyn-minute delay

between the oakland connection. and 521, a bridge delay reported. not sure how far behind schedule they are, but that train is held. and no delays, san francisco ferry, should be a nice morning as you commute into the city. we'll look at drive times coming up next. >> thank you. >> we begin with developing news. this morning, some thrill rides across the country including one at the santa cruz beach boardwalk will be inspected after a ride broke apart at the ohio state fair midair. one person was killed after the fireball ride fell apart. a video posted by a witness shows the moment it happened. several riders were thrown in the air. seven people were injured. four remain in the hospital this morning. three are listed in critical condition. officials say the ride was inspected three to four times before it was given the all clear to operate at yesterday's opening day of the state fair. taking a look at san francisco. washington, d.c., and on your far right, a look at new york. protests building across the

country because of president trump's plans to ban transgender people from serving in the military. hundreds of protesters marched at harvey milk plaza in the castro last night. they have a clear message. trans rights are human rights. >> don't always focus on the t as much as we do the l and g. so i think that's important for us to be their allies and march with them. >> we need to be committed to standing up for lgbt rights. we cannot be deterred. and donald trump is strong. i am strong. >> members of the lgbtq community say they feared things would be worse under a trump presidency. they say the transgender ban came as a shock. >> and reggie, caitlyn jenner this morning responding to what she calls the president's attack on transgender service members. in a let toor the president, jenner says the news was devastating and americans should be outraged by the disrespect shown to the people who wear our country's uniform. jenner also listed the 19 country whose have successfully

to fan out to make a statement from here. they say they want, they need a moratorium on rent hikes. the protesters will target what they call mega landlords and plan to occupy corporate offices today. one target will be the california apartment association. a new coalition called housing now is organizing this state-wide event. it's made up of 50 different groups varying from unions to small landlords and realtors. if you would like to join in, they're meeting at 10:30 here in pleasant hill at the best buy on buskirk avenue. this isn't just a local protest. they promise this is a state-wide movement with action in at least a dozen california cities. reporting live in pleasant hill, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> amy, thank you. happening today, a former contra costa county sheriff's deputy accused in a sex scandal is due in court. prosecutors say ricardo perez had sex with an underaged prostitute several times back in

2015. a preliminary hearing will determine if there's enough evidence to go to trial. the victim, jasmine abuslin, was 17 years old at the time. she says she had sex with multiple police officers from several different bay area agencies. a doctor and a nurse accused of molesting children in santa today. the dr. and rachel brandon pleaded not guilty to all carges in may. several of the charges could lead to a life sentence. a third suspect is still in arizona. the district attorney said she's going to be extratited to face charms here. >> a court appearance for a woman arrested in connection with the death of ms. flo, a beloved san jose resident. flo douglas passed away last october, about a month after she was attacked in her home. court documents unsealed yesterday reveal an extensive plot against the 88-year-old victim. according to them, 19-year-old johnny brown and 19-year-old

zachary kuen planned to ransack her home. prosecutors say the pair planned to break in along with a man who lived across the street from douglas. brown's mother is charged with hiding her son from police. she is expected to face arraignment today. >> terminally ill british infant charlie guard could be moved to hospice today. they ruled he would be moved to hospice to die unless his parents and the hospital treating him agree on an end of life plan by some time today. his parents ended a months-long legal battle for the right to take charlie to the u.s. for experimental treatment. >> we're learning more about a story we first brought you yesterday on abc7 morning. the new details about a pilot accused of an international drug smuggling operation out of santa rosa. >> hillary clinton is definitely not staying silent anymore. not staying silent anymore.

international drug smuggling operation out of santa rosa. >> the plan was to fly 500 pounds of methamphetamine from the airport in sonoma county to melbourne, australia, with a pit stop in hawaii. the estimated street value, a whoppi whopping $200 million. hugh gorman, who is known as john, was arrested at the melbourne airport. the sonoma county sheriffs say the de, a found the drugs in a raid of a windsor storage facility back in june. the man that gorman bought the single engine cessna 210 from was stunned with the allegations and says the plan would have never worked. >> we didn't know anything that he was going to install an extra 500 to 600 pounds worth of cargo. if he would have done that with the fuel load and taken off here, he never would have left the airport. the plane would have crashed upon takeoff. >> he went on to say he thinks gorman was the worst pilot he's ever flown with.

to show you this story we're following. dangerous flash floods in kansas city, missouri, happening right now in kansas city, as i mentioned. look at this, a live image here of a rescue that is going on this very minute. they're trying to save some of those folks trapped inside a bar and grill that's due to flooding. and this has been happening all morning long. different scenes. look at this. this is just from a few moments ago. a rescue where two firefighters forced the car door open to save that driver inside the red car. floodwaters were rising quickly. the hood of the car went underwater within just 20 minutes. rescue crews pulled the driver and firefighters on a rope to safety, and the car, as you saw, just kind of floated away. isn't that an incredible image? nearly seven inches of rain fell in kansas city early this morning leading to the flooding problems that are obviously still going on at this very minute. new this morning, the we're learning the title of hillary clinton's tell-all book, you see it there. that's the name of it, and the newly released cover. the former presidential nominee is letting her guard down, revealing what she was thinking and feeling in the heat of the campaign. her publisher said the book will connect the dots between russian interference in the election, the memoir will be released september 12th. okay, if you own a ford, there's an important recall you need to know about. the automaker is recalling 117,000 vehicles because bolts in the seat, the seat belt, or the seat belt buckle could fracture. the recall involves several models from the years 2014 and 2015. most of the affected vehicles are in the united states. the automaker is not aware of any accidents or injuries, though, related to the defect. customers will be notified and dealers will replace the effected bolts for free. >> in the south bay, a different idea for lodging. developers moving forward with plans to build two new motels that share a lobby in north san jose. according to the mercury news, a total of 261 rooms would be built at the site.

a 147-room residence inn and a 114-room fairfield inn and suites both operating under the marriott brand. the project is under construction north of highway 237 and great america parkway. it's located a short distance to levi's stadium. california's great america, and several tech campuses including google and adobe. developers hope to open that project in two years. >> a little boy from the north bay is making the most of a second chance at life he got. he got a liver transplant when he was 8 months old. he's 6 now and was the guest of honor at the san francisco giants donate life day yesterday. the annual event began 20 years ago to raise awareness about organ donation. he traveled with his family from napa to open the game with a very spirited shout. >> play ball! >> nice. >> this is amazing. it's 20 years the giants have been supporting donor network

injuries. i have not seen any flashing lights yet. i'll update you on that in a few. we're looking at the bay bridge toll plaza. the metering lights on for over an hour now. next traffic update at 6:40. >> thank you. developing news now. some thrill rides across the country including one at the santa cruz beach boardwalk are under scrutiny after a deadly malfunction at the ohio state fair. >> one person was killed after the fireball ride broke apart midair last night. dramatic video captured by a bystander shows the ride swinging and spinning when it crashed into something. part of the ride actually broke off. >> several riders thrown into the air. some of the victims landed on the ground. seven people were taken to the hospital and three are in critical condition this morning. that ride goes up high into the air and it rotates passengers 13 times in just one minute. >> the ride goes really, really fast and goes in circles and it rocks right to left. and i heard a girl scream help, and i look over and i seen

something fly out. and then i see this slap to the ground. >> ohio's governor john kasich is calling for a full investigation. is ordering all rides shut down until safety inspections can be made. that fireball ride is here in the bay area. it's popular at the california state fair in sacramento. there's the same ride at the santa cruz boardwalk and also at great america. >> abc7 news reporter matt keller is in santa cruz for us with the safety measure rider operators are taking today. matt. >> reporter: good morning, jessica and reggie. the fireball ride here on the santa cruz beach boardwalk is right behind the giant dipper here, kind of in the middle of the boardwalk. they shut it down last night. they want to make sure it's safe before they let riders back on. they're expected to do an inspection today. santa cruz isn't the only place shutting down this ride, though. at the california state fair in sacramento, officials closed their version of the fireball last night. the ride is not exactly the same as the one in ohio, but they're both manufactured by the same

company in holland. officials say independent inspections are done on the 100 rides at the state fair before it opens. they also do random spot inspections every day. however, after the incident in ohio, they just shut down their ride in sacramento. >> not going to run in till they tell us what happened in ohio and the factory tells us it's okay to operate. >> california's great america has a similar ride called delirium. reached out to them to find out whether or not that ride will be open today and have yet to hear back. the boardwalk opens up at 11:00 this morning. they will use the daylight to help with the inspection of the fireball ride. no word on when it could open today. matt keller, abc7 news. >> thank you. new developments in the death of a 32-year-old man by the pittsburg police department. the family of humberto martinez has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the department. according to our media partner, the suit seeks unspecified damages.

surveillance video shows the incident began as a traffic stop, went into pursuit, and he died after being held in a neck hold. >> happening today, the father of the only american killed in the 2015 paris terror attacks will be in a federal court in san francisco. and he is suing google, facebook, and twitter over his daughter's death. nohemi gonzalez was among the 132 people killed in the attack two years ago. the 23-year-old cal state long beach student was at a restaurant when terrorists attacked. the lawsuit alleged social media companies are partly responsible because terrorists use the sites to plan their attack the social media companies say they do prohibit terrorist content and take it down as soon as they become aware it exists. >> one of the two men charged in oakland's deadly ghost ship fire is expected to make a bid for freedom today. max harris wants a judge to reduce or eliminate the $1 million bail he's held on. harris and derrick elmaina face

36 counts of involuntary manslaughter. almena rented the warehouse and illegally converted it to living spaces. harris lived there and helped almena book musical acts to perform in the building. >> happening today, the california public utilities commission is holding two public hearings to get your feedback about pg&e's rate increase over the next three years. in may, the cpuc authorized the rate hike request, which will collect more than $1.5 billion from customers. state regulators are now trying to determine how much customers will pay and the schedule for when those rate increases will take effect. today's meetings are being held in oakland at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the m. harris building on clay street. >> the senate expected to take up a marathon voting session on repealing obamacare. one of the bills up for debate is a skinny repeal. it would get rid of the

individual and employer mandates while leaving much of the affordable care act in place. the move to repeal and replace it is drawing more protests like the one you sigh here in san francisco. abc7 news was at zum zuckerberg san francisco hospital where hundreds of people joined hands for health care. they formed a human chain. the protest organized by the group indivisible sf. >> a new poll shows president trump's approval rating has hit a new low in california. the public policy institute of california just released its poll. it says only 25% of californians think the president is doing a good job. that is down from 30% in january. more than 1700 californians participated in the poll. san jose police are releasing new images in the hopes of solving a 2-year-old cold case homicide. here's a sketch of the suspect accused of shooting and killing 19-year-old christopher kyle in a mobile home park july 2015. police say the suspect was a passenger in a car. he asked kyle if he was in a

gang and then shot him. this is the car police say the suspects were in. described as a light colored compact vehicle. if you have information, please call police. new this morning, uc berkeley police have released these photos from surveillance video. it shows two burglars that stole electronic equipment from inside a campus building. uc police say the electronic equipment was valued at about $25,000 and was taken last week at north gate hall, home to cal's graduate school of journalism. police tell abc7 news the burglars got inside the building from a window that was left open. bay area transportation leaders are moving forward with a plan to raise bridge tolls by up to $3. the metropolitan transportation commission voted last night to back a state senate bill that would put the toll hike on the ballot. the money raised would be used to pay for transportation projects and cut down on traffic congestion. the proposal still needs approval from the state legislature and the governor.

then it would be up to voters. for drivers who pay a toll every work day, it could cost them an average of at least $700 more a year to get to work. what a homecoming for stanford grad jonah morris. he kicked the game winning goal to win the gold cup for team usa. they ended up winning it, and he did this 13 miles away from where he went to school. >> taylor knocked down. >> pretty great. the u.s. men's national team won the gold cup 2-1. u.s. soccer fans left levi's with memories they say will last a lifetime. >> usa, usa, usa! >> my dad, we grew up watching soccer because of him. so he bought our tickets. and that's why we're here today with family. >> more than 60,000 people going to the game did create a bit of a traffic crunch. vta put extra trains and buses into service for an expected into service for an expected 6,000 riders.

it's going to go away quickly, and temperatures today are going to jump anywhere from about 6 to 12 degrees. taking us from the 60s, 70s, and 80s yesterday to the 70s, 80s, 90s, even a few 100s. huge summer spread today. now, we were following the fog all morning. it's been getting thicker and starting to spread about. where have you seen it moving now? >> some in the east bay, golden gate bridge, the north bay, around hollister and gilroy as well. good chance you're going to see at least a little fog out there this morning. here's a quick check of our emeryville camera. we have pointed towards the maze, still trying to find this motorcycle collision that we have reported right around the 80 and 580 merge there. have not spotted it yet. it does sound like all the activity is pushed to the shoulder. that's the good news, i don't think it's going to be a major slowdown, but the hov bypass is a little slow. quick check of our traffic maps. want to take you to a problem in hayward. southbound 101 off ramp to eastbound 92, a collision blocking lane two right now. some heavy traffic in the area as it is, and yeah, 92 still
