criticism of you. do you think it's fair? >> well, it's kind of hurtful, but the president of the united states is a strong leader, and he wants all of us to do our jobs, and that's what i intend to do. >> sessions there in el salvador in central america as part of his effort to wipe out a violent gang, and he says that he intends to continue doing his job. senator lindsey graham warned that if sessions is fired, there will be holy hell to pay. and the pentagon says there is currently no ban on transgender people in the military despite the president's announcement on twitter. >> yeah, the chairman of the joint chiefs says presidential tweets are not legal orders, and the pentagon has received no instructions about the ban from the white house, and until they receive those orders, he and other military leaders say nothing is changing. >> but the entire force, the entire chain of command will, always has, will today and will tomorrow and always should treat every single soldier, sailor,

airman, marine, coast guardsman with respect and respect for their service and the cloth of our nation bar none. >> well, the defense secretary james mattis has been on vacation this week and reportedly only learned of the president's decision a day before it was tweeted. there are an estimated 2,500 transgender people on active duty. and the leader of the boy scouts is apologizing for president trump's politically tinged speech at the group's national jamboree. trump attacked former president obama and the media, that is, during his speech on monday. in a statement the chief executive of the scouts extended an apology to anyone in the scouting family who was offended by what he called the political rhetoric. clearly a busy 24 hours for the senate. that governing body has given final approval to a bill that includes tough new sanctions against russia. and sources now say the president is likely to sign that bill. white house officials have made contradicting statements over the last few days about whether it would be signed into law. the bill also includes limits on

the president's ability to ease or lift those sanctions. we want to get to some breaking news right now from europe where a train accident has injured dozens of people. a live picture here at barcelona's second largest train station. the area roped off and investigators are on the scene. the video moments after the crash, though, showing the train with a crumpled front end against a metal barrier. it happened during the morning rush hour. at least 48 people are injured. no word on a cause. now for a look at your weather. heavy rain and wind is heading for the mid-atlantic region from wilmington, north carolina, to wilmington, delaware. the flash flood watch runs through tomorrow and includes philadelphia. the jersey shore and cape cod may also be in for some rough weather later today. there's a heat advisory in effect for dallas where the high temperature will top 100. new orleans and the gulf coast will reach the low 90s, but the west coast, midwest, even new

new video of a plane crash in southern california with a private cessna crashing on the busy 405 freeway near john wayne airport last month.

the airport just released the video. the plane had just finished taking off when one of the engines died. the couple on board spent about three weeks in the hospital but are now home recovering. thousands of vacations in north carolina outer banks are now interrupted, not by a storm but actually by a power outage. contractors building a bridge cut an underground cable. it might now take weeks to restore power, so a mandatory evacuation order is in place for ocracoke island. people have been posting photos to social media about how they're coping. fireball carnival rides worldwide have been shut down after that tragic accident at the ohio state fair. one person was killed and seven others injured when the swinging ride came apart in midair. the cause of the accident is under investigation. all rides at the fair have been shut down. the person killed identified as 18-year-old tyler jarrell who had just committed to joining the marines.

new court documents reveal disturbing details about a utah man accused of killing his wife on board a cruise ship in alaska. kenneth manzanares allegedly told a witness he killed his wife because she, quote here, would not stop laughing at me. investigators say kenneth killed his wife in their cabin. the documents also indicate the witness stopped kenneth from throwing her body overboard. tesla is set to roll out its long awaited model 3 today with the first 30 cars going to employees at its factory in california. the four-door sedan starting at $35,000 is half the price of tesla's previous models and the electric car company is banking on the model 3 hoping to sell five times as many cars by next year. amazon founder jeff bezos briefly dethroned bill gates as the world's richest man. bezos' fortune grew to $90 billion after an amazon stock surge yesterday that put him slightly ahead of gates but after a few hours the company's

about my kids and him and then trying to push the shark off of me, and i just started digging at what -- you know, i felt like i was digging at a cup of jell-o. >> and that was the shark's eye? >> yeah. >> the great white that attacked ericson was believed to be between 9 and 11 feet long. she spent three months in the hospital and has undergone eight surgeries now. it's an incredible story, and we have plenty more of it later on on "gma." newly released police body camera video shows tennis superstar venus williams moments after a deadly car accident in florida. an officer tells williams that he's not going to give her a ticket because she got stuck in a bad situation. police initially said williams was at fault but later said surveillance video shows that she lawfully entered that intersection. a passenger in the other car died, and his wife is now suing williams. and federal officials are expanding an investigation into carbon monoxide leaks in ford explorers, this after the austin
