coast and 78 around the bay and then 90 inland at 4:00. check out how comfortable this evening. 57 at the coast and 72 around the bay and 80 inland. i'll take a deeper look at that heat wave that is coming up with the weekend forecast, next. here's alexis. >> we are looking good this morning. no major issues. one new crash on the peninsula. this is on 280. the lighter side of things and usually 280 is pretty light as it is. 280 before farmhill road. multi-crash reported. sounds like the vehicles are off to the side but debris scattered around that area. be on the lookout and use some caution. a quick check of the bay bridge toll plaza. little stack up in the cash lanes but that's about it so far this morning. 25 minutes before those metering lights flip on. we'll look at drive times coming up next. a stinging defeat for president trump and the republican agenda after a long night in the senate. final vote to repeal obamacare failed. >> three senators broke ranks

and voted no. abc news reporter amy washington with details. >> this is a major blow for president trump. the republican signature promise to repeal and replace obamacare isn't happening and it was republican senator, john mccain, who cast that deciding vote. a long night in the senate, a delayed vote and no short nl ag drama. all eyes on maverick, john mccain, who returned to washington to take part in the health care debate despite his brain cancer diagnosis. mccain showing no lack of stamina raising his arm and then lowering the boom on the republicans' signature promise. the dramatic moment eliciting cheers from the democrats along with mccain, susan collins and lisa murkowski also voting no making the final tally 49-51. >> this is, you know, clearly a

continue to embarrass my family and friends. >> also read from dozens of texts and facebook messages between the two. his attorney declined to comment. a 51-year-old woman from new mexico has filed a lawsuit against san francisco-based air bnb claiming she was sexually assaulted by one of the hosts. the santa fe's woman's attorney found the suit in court yesterday. the attorney said the incident happened in july of last year and a los angeles studio connected to the host. her attorney claims air bnb creates a "false sense of security for its renters and fails to do any background checks on hosts." developing news out of san francisco. the federal government is helping families whose homes were damaged when coyote creek was flooded in february. develop a plan to reduce flood risk. the santa clara valley water

district says the first step in securing state and federal funds for flood protection project. >> it helps us. it hopes to get this channel done and protect the 14,000 people done. >> the water district had asked for the corps's help back in 1997 when the creek flooded. it was turned down because there was no federal interest at that time. the city of oakland is moving forward with gender neutral bathrooms. the city is moving forward with the resolution to install the first gender neutral bathroom at oakland city hall. the resolution cites a 2013 ucla study. it found 70% of those surveyed felt denied or denied access because of their gender identity. the counsel approved the resolution at its july 18th meeting, a week before president trump tweeted that the military will ban transgender people from serving. google just dropped $800 million in a land grab in sunnyvale.

the story just coming in to our live desk. a major train accident in barcelona, spain. government officials say at

least 54 people are injured. a commuter train crashed into buffers at a train station at around 7:15 local time. cell phone video shows the dramatic footage there. the front end of the train had damage to it. more than 50 people were taken to hospitals. the regional health chief says one person is seriously hurt. the cause of the accident is under investigation. developing news out of the white house, the new white house communication director is apologizing for the voulgar language he used. anthony scaramucci called rei priebus a paranoid schizophrenic. last night on cnn he said scaramucci had harsher words for white house adviser steve bannon. >> you have to be careful with some of these. they're pretty salty. he said, i'm not steve bannon. i'm not trying to blank my own

extended forecast. let's take a look at your clouds and they're making a late push right now through about 7:00. but by noon, easily, they're back to the coast. in fact, probably around 10:00, 10:30 at the latest. the coast we'll see a lot of sunshine on the north bay coast. but the peninsula coast a little bit less sunshine, especially around half moon bay. as you head south towards santa cruz, a lot of sunshine there, too. microclimates. mid-90s throughout our inland east bay. the farther north you go, the warmer it gets. starts in places like sausalito and napa 84. down in the south bay, warmer than average. 86 in san jose and milpitas about 84 and santa cruz around 77 degrees. san mateo 77 degrees with clouds lingering at the coast keeping you around 64 at half moon bay. be about 77 in palo alto and redwood city about 80. 75 in hayward and our last stop,

san francisco. a lot of mid to upper 60s here. i'm sure that impending heat wave got your attention. inland neighborhoods that will be in the mid to upper 90s. not only today but through next week. a few 100s possible. upper 70s and low 80s around the bay and mid to lower 60s at the coast. here's alexis. >> san jose. a few more detitiails on this collision. little bit north of the 87 interchange. both of those vehicles off on the shoulder now and we really never did see a backup. that's looking pretty good right now. also looking good right now. the north bay commute. that will change later on today. we have the toyota nhra sonoma nationals at sonoma raceway. that starts today and goes through sunday and gates will open at about 10:00 a.m. and i believe qualifying races start about 4:00 this afternoon. you know the drill, 37 and 121 will be packed. quick check of drive time. westbound 80 across the bay

bridge and southbond 101 san francisco to sfo. watch out for cyclists. the mass bike ride is going to fill san francisco streets starting at 6:00 p.m. and possibly create a mess of the friday night commute. they're going to gather on market street along the embarcadero and ride from there. san francisco police closely monitor the ride. as always, they are reminding drivers to please be careful and be patient. san jose is looking for new ways to house the homeless. one proposal included building tiny homes across the street from thousand oaks park in south san jose. but at a meeting earlier this month an overflow crowd showed up to voice their opposition. housing department will not recommend housing near the park. another community meeting will be held in two weeks. both the raiders and the 49ers set to begin training camp. the niners reported to camp yesterday. they'll have their first practice at 10:00 a.m. today at the team's facility in santa clara. they'll report at their napa

morning. multi-car crash we had about an hour ago on southbound 280. actually looks like we have a delay on the northbound side. this is just past edgewood road. the vehicle pushed off to the side, but we did have debris scattered across all lanes. we have a couple tow trucks on the way to the scene. southbound 680 we're still doing okay and pretty friday light volumes. a crushing blow for president trump and the republican agenda. >> after a long night in the senate, a vote on the so-called skinny repeal to turn back obamacare failed. >> that happened so fast you could barely see it. but it was john mccain saying in a dramatic fashion no with a thumbs down. three republicans decided to join in that no vote. the measure was defeated after seven years of promises to repeal obamacare. senate muajority leader mitch

tree. we take a look here at this car. the crash happened just before 2:00 this morning on highway 101. took rescue crews about 30 minutes to pull the driver out. he was taken to the hospital. no word on his condition this morning. >> we're learning this morning of a dramatic drop in one particular type of crime in san francisco. a cell phone in your hand is safer than it's been in years. live downtown this morning. amy, hi. >> hi, jessica. well, san francisco officials are saying people aren't stealing these as often as they wer. they think it's because of the kill switch that you can now find in these phones. california law now requires that manufacturers put a kill switch in the smartphones and when you activate it, it makes them useless. officials think that has deterred thieves from grabbing them. here are the numbers in san francisco that have just been released. smart phone robberies are down 22%. that's from 2015 to 2016. from 2013, they're down 50%.

now, one man we talked to said it could be the kill switch or maybe something else. >> i would want to say, no, it's not really a huge surprise. but i don't know. could be they're just not ubiquitous nobody really needs to -- they're easy to come by. interested to see that mostpl places aren't giving you the subsidy to get a new phone. >> interesti ing thoughts. but officials think the kill switch law is the reason behind this. that law was signed three years ago but went into effect two years ago in 2015. san francisco district attorney sponsored the law and senator mark leno wrote the bill. it is the first law of its kind. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank you. a standoff in san jose ended peacefully overnight and we've

learned police do now have a suspect in custody. the fire department first responded to reports of a building on fire in welch park. they arrived around 11:30 last night. found a man, as you see here, actually standing on top of a roof and there was smoke rising from the building. police spent nearly an hour convincing him to come down. the suspect demanded to speak with his children before turning himself in. luckily no one was hurt in the standoff. happening today, a judge expected to set a trial date in the kate steinle murder case. accused of shooting steinle in july of 2015. she was hit while walking with her dad on pier 14. he said he found the gun and it went off when he picked it up. lopez sanchez has been deported to mexico five times before the shooting. authorities apparently ignored a request by federal agents that he be detained.

four people are now facing charges in connection with dozens of car break-ins in the east bay. brentwood police identified two of the suspects as 20-year-old brian randolph and 20-year-old john robertson who you see on your screen. the other two, we can't name, they are teenagers. investigators say the group admits to breaking into 17 cars in the parking lot of brentwood hotel last friday morning. one of the cars was stolen and later spotted near a livermore apartment complex where another 36 cars were broken into. the suspects hoped to steal valuable items. they are confident they will find out what caused a ride to fail at the state fair killing an 18-year-old high school student. tyler signed up with the marines a week ago and set to begin basic training after graduating next year. investigators say the dramatic

video captured by a fair goer could become an important piece of the puzzle. forensic video analysts are now hoping to take that down frame by frame for a better understanding of when and where the ride came apart. that fireball ride is shut down indefinitely at the santa cruz beach boardwalk and five other locations in california. that's because of orders from cal osha. they decided to ban the ride when the fair opens next week. a similar ride called delarium at california's great america in santa clara is closed down as a precaution. the dutch manufacturer has ordered a worldwide shut down of all fireball rides until it can come up with a plan for safety inspections. antioch firefighters think an arsonist is responsible for three different outdoor fires. one started just before 2:00 yesterday afternoon. and it charred fences behind some homes along railroad tracks near gary avenue. minutes later, crews raced to fight two other fires burning

nearby. one of those fires threatened a building for a short time. the fires burned a total of three acres. the spillway failure at the orville dam could happen at other dams in california. this morning state officials say owners of 93 dams had to double check their flight control spillways. 12 dams are in the bay area including the peter's dam in marine county and the brionas dam in costa county. the sacramento bee reports dams needing inspections hold back reservoirs that store about 100,000 acre feet of water. the spillway at the orville failed in february and repairs expected to cost more than $300 million. it should reopen by november. now your accuweather forecast with mike nicco. >> central part of the bay. you can see the san mateo bridge here. looking westbound. clearer than it was this time yesterday. late-arriving fog as you head
