>> those are pretty scary stuff. a warning as you're getting your morning cup of coffee today. starbucks is telling customers to be on alert. >> this is crazy to me. it comes as a customer at starbucks in alameda victims of a strong-arm robbery for the second time in less than two weeks. the latest attack on saturday night at this starbucks loekd on atlantic avenue. a cartoon animator was sitting there working on his latest project when four people in hoodies burst through the front door. >> they start headed right toward me. and i just couldn't believe it was happening. then suddenly, he just grabs my laptop right out of my hand, knocks the drink over, and he's out the door with it. i have to start over, get new software, i have to get a new computer. and i think starbucks owes me that. >> on july 18th, two customers got their laptops stolen in front of this starbucks in alameda. starbucks says it's working with local authorities on both investigations, adding the safety of customers and

employees is top priority. >> two bay area men are facing uncertain futures. the undocumented men were arrested by immigration agents thursday in hayward. they're held for deportation. the men both have american-born children and have lived in the u.s. for more than a decade. two other men were picked up in may. the marin ij reports one of the men's attorneys blames the policies of the trump administration for i.c.e.'s crackdown. >> nancy pelosi believes president trump is taking the wrong approach when it comes to his effort to repeal obamacare. the president indicated he's ready to cut off payments to insurance companies beginning tomorrow. certain parts of the health care system could collapse if the payments stop. mr. trump has also said the senate should once again focus on repealing and replacing the affordable care act. the repeal bill failed last week. california senator dianne feinstein says the president

faces major opposition to the idea high might fire jeff sessions and robert mueller. feinstein on cbs's "face the nation" responded to the suggestion mr. trump might move the attorney general to head the department of homeland security. if he does, that would clear the way for the president to replace the attorney general and unlike mr. sessions who has recused himself, the new a.g. could fire robert mueller who is spearheading the fbi's russia investigation. >> i think there has been sufficient opposition for the president not to do so unless of course what he really intends is to end up firing mueller. which could well be the beginning of the end of his presidency. >> senator feinstein also addressed north korea's development of intercontinental ballistic missiles. she said it's a clear and present danger to the u.s. and points out the danger of isolating a country. >> a couple in concord used

their camera to fight crime. when a man pointed their gun at him, they took his picture. they posted pictures of his car and the illegal gun found inside. the couple was headed to the store on saturday, when clinton drove by and aimed his weapon at them. ivestigators arrested them thanks to the photos. officers say they do not suggest you putting yourself in harm's way to get a snapshot. >> an investigation is under way to find a gunman who shot a tourist in turks and caicos. when mike jones and his family returned to their beachfront property, two masked men forced their way in, shooting him. he confronted one of the intruders who shot him. the gunmen got away with only a laptop. >> you come here, don't automatically assume that nothing can happen to you. because we have criminals. sglo jones was transferred to a hospital in south florida where he's now stable.

meanwhile, officials insist turks and caicos is safe. the state department has not issued any advisories for american travelers. do have a heads-up for commuters. big changes coming for people who use the alameda harbor bay ferry terminal. >> these are parking changes. when these were announced, a lot of people weren't so happy. tiffally wilson is here to explain it. >> yes, and we expect to hear more of that frustration as commuters arrive for the 6:30 ferry this morning. parking spaces are going to be a hot commodity starting tomorrow. that is because today is the last day that harbor bay ferry riders can park in nearby neighborhoods. starting tomorrow, august 1st, drivers will need a permit to park for longer than four hours. now, there are 250 spaces available at the terminal parking lot, but that is not enough to meet demand. on week days, about 100 cars park on nearby streets. local neighborhoods got fed up with the inconvenience of commuters on their streets all day long, so they approved a new

permit parking program back in february that goes into effect tomorrow. only cars with a permit can park for longer than four hours. so that means somebody who's going into the city for a full day of work could come home to find a parking ticket tacked to their windshield. ferry officials want to emphasize there are four other ways to get to the ferry. a free bus, ac transit line 21. you can also bike, walk, or get dropped off. but you can expect a lot of people will be getting here much earlier starting tomorrow. live in alameda, tiffany wilson, abc 7 newses. >> thank you. possible relief for bay area residents tormented by the sound of airport noise over the years, especially right along the peninsula. the faa is considering several ways to reduce noise created by planes flying into sfo. the chronicle obtained a copy of the report. it outlined several possible solutions including a new flight path for incoming planes.

at the live desk, we're learning more about a chilling brand-new approach of terrorists in australia to take down a passenger jet. the immediate fallout from the plot is increased security at airports and lines of passengers stretched from inside to outside the terminals at sydney airport now. some australian news outlets report the plot involved making a bomb out of a kitchen device to create poison gas. >> never seen this before, so apparently the australian police seized something like a meat mincer about the size of a bread loaf. you would think, is this a binary weapon, two chemicals that would get mixed together, which is complex, sort of a gas canister? >> as you heard, the use of gas is an entirely new approach from terrorists. four men have been arrested.

two fathers and their two sons. >> flying can be stressful for some. here's an alarming reason it's getting worse. tsa discovered a record number of guns in carry-on bags across the nation. from july 10th to the 16th, the agency found kwoun guns in bags. these are just some of the firearms their seized. the previous record of 82 guns was set in may. travelers bringing firearms through security could be arrested and fined up to $11,000. >> we're getting a look at what san francisco's first ever floating fire station is going to look like. this 16,000 quer foot two-story extension is going to sit behind firehouse 35 along the embarcadero. city planners say the new addition will be climate change proof and seismically safe. construction will begin in 2014. the $40 million firehouse should be floated to its new home in 2021. >> a fresno woman survived a risky pregnancy thanks to

miracle blood donors. baby nora was born happy and healthy. her mom has a rare medical condition that caused massive blood loss before and during abemergency c-section in june. julie was 32 weeks pregnant when she was flown to san francisco for emergency treatment. it took 32 pienlts of blood during 9 1/2 hours of surgery to keep her alive. she's now focused on making a full recovery along with her newborn who came six weeks early. we all heard about the laws that forbid texting while driving. now, it will soon be illegal to text while crossing the street in honolulu. this marks america's first law to ban texting or looking at your phone or other electronic device while walking across the road. the law goes into effect on august 25th. fines range from $15 to $35 for a first offense. up to $99 for a third offense. want to tell you we had a fun day over the weekend. we wunlt to the winchester mystery house.

>> we're tracking breaking news at the live desk. san francisco police in a stand-off right now with a man he may be armed. this is happening near 15th and baver in the city's cold valley neighborhood. it all started just before midnight when police responded to reports of a shooting. we have just confirmed a woman was found with a gunshot wound. she was taken to the hospital. her condition at this time is not known. the suspect is now holed up inside of the home. he's refusing to come out. neighbors are asked to stay inside. some streets in that area are shut down. we're going to continue to have updates throughout the morning and on our free abc7 news app. >> developing news in the south bay. a popular breakfast place won't open after it turned into an unintentional drive-thru. a drive went right through the front of the los gatos cafe. matt keller is there where there's still quite a mess. >> good morning. since the last time i saw you, we have sunlight out here so you can see some of the damage. still have the caution tape keeping people away from here. this is the fire hydrant.

you can see the pieces that were broken off. you can see the vehicle also appeared to hit the newspaper stand, knocking it on its side. then this is the big mess right here. you have a lot of debris in the front, and of course, the damage to the front door here. and then they put up a sign that says somebody mistook us for a 24-hour drive-thru restaurant. we'll reopen as soon as possible. we apologize for any inconvenience. at least they still have a sense of humor. however, check out the video of the vehicle. the red suv crashed into the los gatos cafe early sunday morning. the driver was taken to the hospital. she was stable. firefighters were on the screen checking out the structure. the entrance severely damaged. the restaurant is known for its big breakfast dishes including omelets and french toast. speed limit is only 15 miles per hour on this stretch of the avenue. we have no word on if speed, alcohol, or distracted driving

>> i was sitting outside on the porch right here and seen the little loy fall in the pool. then i seen his mother jump in the pool after him. after they pulled the little boy out, they started giving him cpr and i called 911. >> the boy eventually regained consciousness. he was air lifted to the hospital. a family members tell us he will be okay. >> a controversial uc davis former chancellor is coming back to campus. she was in charge during the pepper spraying incident that went viral a few years ago. she's going to return in the fall as a professor of electr electrical and computer engineering. she's also going to teach women and gender studies. they told the sacramento bee she'll be paid $318,000 for a nine-month contract. she resigned last august amid accusations of ethics violations. she's best known for serving as the head of the campus during this infamous incident when cams police pepper sprayed occupy demonstrators in 2011. happening today, it's the beginning of the commercial salmon fishing season.

it's a season, though, that has very low expectations. right now, there are historically low numbers of adult chinook salmon in the ocean. wildlife experts blame the impacts the drought had on the rivers and el nino affected ocean food sources. the take has been so poor that fishing groups plan to ask the governor to claim a disaster so they can seek federal aid. >> b.a.r.t. officials have launched a campaign to help lower cell phone thefts. they encourage riders to protect their cell phones. b.a.r.t. has displayed this poster inside of the train cars and riders may also notice an increase in audio announcements. the agency says there have been 225 phone thefts so far this year, compared to 274 in all of last year. >> developing news, the north bay smart commuter train is on track for a critical extension before the system even opens to the public. the chronicle reports smart believes it's going to open a link from downtown san rafael to
