street and castro. the man is believed to be hold up at a house beginning at 11:45 last night when police found a woman who was shot. she's currently being treated at the hospital. the hospitale don't have any wo condition. police say that the suspect barricaded himself inside of his home and is refusing to surrender. hundreds of people had to shelter in place. some neighbors were even ordered to evacuate early this morning. >> we opened the door, and it was a police officer in full s.w.a.t. gear, you know. the whole strange. >> reporter: the s.w.a.t. team was here and bomb squad offices. officer robert lukea has been here all morning long. what's the latest you can tell me about the negotiations? >> the latest with the negotiations is we're still in communication with the suspect. we would love for him to come out, surrender, come out of his home with his hands empty and

we're learning when one of the south bay's most popular breakfast spots may open after a woman turned the a thridrive-thru into a pil a pa wreckage. >> reporter: take a look at the newspaper stand during the crash, a big mess in front and a sign. at least they have their sign here at the los gatos cafe saying somebody mistook us for a 24-hour thrive thru restaurant. we'll reopen as soon as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience. at least there are options though for customers. disappointment this morning for customers looking to eat at the los gatos cafe on north santa cruz avenue. >> the best. one of our favorite breakfast spots. >> reporter: a big mess sits at the entrance to the popular restaurant. this is the red suv that caused all the damage early sunday morning. the co-owner of the los gatos

today. he's hoping to have this all back open by thursday. reporting live in los gatos, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> we hope so, matt. thank you. new details on a stolen train used for children's carnivals. authorities have found the train in a trailer in walnut creek. sky 7 was over boulevard circle near i-680 this morning as authorities searched the stolen trailer. the trailer was taken from a parking lot in pleasant hill over the weekend t.carried a train that was supposed to be one of the many attractions at the bayview hunter's point summer carnival. on the peninsula this man terry lee hill jr. is under arrest in connection with a string of suspicious fires in palo alto. police say all four fires were set on the same day near the stanford shopping center. they broke out early friday morning between 2:00 and 5:30 a.m. nobody was hurt. police say the 23-year-old suspect was caught on surveillance video. they released this screening image. police say a car, a dumpster, a

garage and some plants were damage the in the fires. a warning today if you're headed to starbucks to get some work done. the coffee chain is warning customers to be on alert after the second strong armed robbery at an alameda store in less than two weeks. the latest attack happened at this starbucks on atlantic avenue and webster street. a cartoon animator was working on a project when four people in hoodies burst through the door. >> started heading right towards me, and i just couldn't believe it was happening, and then suddenly he just grabs my laptop right out of my hand, knocks the drink over and is out the door with it so i've got to start over and get new software, have to get a new computer, and i think starbucks owes me that. >> reporter: on july 18th two customers had their laptops taken inside the starbucks on park street in alameda. starbucks tells abc 7 news toys working with local authorities on both investigations, adding that the safety of customers and eployees is a top priority. a huge change is coming for

commuters who use the alameda harbor bay ferry terminal. beginning tomorrow drivers will need a permit to park on neighborhood streets or risk getting a ticket. the permits are an effort to control traffic near the terminal. there are only 250 spaces available in the terminal parking area. the overflow bleeds into the neighborhood affecting residents. so starting tomorrow you can park on the streets for only four hours without a permit. >> check out what it looked like this morning, a few surfers out there at ocean beach. can you see the waves not too high. pretty normal for this time of the year but it's other things lurking at the beaches that we need to be aware of. a beach hazard statement until 11:00 this evening. the main threat is going to be sneaker waves and also strong rip currents, especially on south-facing beaches like stinson beach and also in santa cruz, so the wave heights could get up to 7 feet but that's not going to be the issue, and the swells, three to four feet every

we have the highest stock market in history. >> reporter: in addition to leaks, public infighting and a major legislative health care defeat the white house faces foreign policy tests with north korea and russia. russian president vladimir putin demanding the number of u.s. diplomats in russia be cut by more than half, retaliation after congress approved a new sanctions bill. that bill also limits trump's ability to cancel sanctions. >> it says if the congress has decided the president is a child rand they are going to put the valuables on a higher shelf and put covers on the outlet so he can't harm himself or the country. >> reporter: despite the president stating today we're doing very well, americas in the latest news/"washington post" poll gave the president at his six-month mark a record low approval rating. megan hughes, abc 7 news, washington. happening today, a special white house ceremony will get under way in an hour to honor han army medic who risked his life to save his vietnam war

comrades. james mcclellan will be first person to receive a medal of honor from president trump. the 71-year-old from michigan will be given the nation's highest military honor at a noon ceremony. he repeatedly braved enemy gunfire to rescue ten soldiers during a 1969 battle. normally the medal of honor is awarded within five years of the recipient's heroic actions, but congress waived the time limiting mcclellan's case. a tropical storm bears down on the gulf coast. a look at the wild weather forcing a state of emergency in florida, and then a manhunt under way after an american tour sift shot in turks and caicos. the warning now for anyone with plans to travel there. and relief for residents living along san francisco international's flight path. the ideas bei you're in thedriver's seat. >> this is simply a scouting run. >> dang. >> next right this minute. and the wolf huffed and puffed...

look at that. torrential rain is slamming parts of the florida coast right now as tropical storm emily makes landfall. this is video of the strong rain, wind and lightning hitting near tampa. florida's governor has issued a state of emergency in 31 counties. they are expected to see flooding. the declaration clears the way to apply for federal aid in areas that see the brunt of the damage. new this morning. hollywood is mourning the loss of an oscar-nominated actor and celebrated author. sam sheppard has died at the age of 73. you may remember him from "the notebook" and he recently

starred in the first series of the netflix series "blood line." he died thursday at his home in kentucky, but news of his death was just made public this morning. a family spokesperson says shepard suffered from complications related to lou gherig's disease. a hunt is under way for two robbers who shot and killed an american tourist in the turks and caicos. the mark offed men forced their way into a lavish beach front rental, tied up a security guard and shot 57-year-old michael jones when he confronted them. the intruders got away with a laptop. jones, a prominent washington, d.c. attorney and college law professor, is expected to be okay. he's the second american tourist shot on the island in the past month. officials there do not believe americans are being targeted but say you should lock your doors and be careful about who you allow inside your room. possible relief for some bay-area residents tormented by airport noise, especially along

the peninsula. the faa is considering several ways to reduce noise created by planes flying into sfo. this is a live picture from our camera there. "the chronicle" obtained a copy of a report and it outlined several possible solutions including a new flight path for incoming planes. the route would enable aircraft to descend in a quieter idle power setting. other potential solutions include keeping sfo rivals and departures away from noise-sensitive areas at night. the faa says it's also evaluating other ideas from the public. talk about an amazing birth story, truly unbelievable. next, a pregnant doctor delivers a patient's baby right before giving birth to her own daughter. and a live look right now from a mt. tam camera looking at the top of sutro tower in san sn francisco. lots of clouds and fog. what's

this season. we'll head down to the south bay and we'll start to see the heat creep in. low to mid-80s. head up the peninsula, redwood city 75 and millbrae around 67 in pacifica, warm spot along the coast. nearby 70 downtown and also sausalito. mid to upper 80s in the north bay and you can see what's going on in cloverale and getting flanked everywhere by the 100s. that will move in tomorrow. 71 at richmond and 83 in fremont and our inland eastbound neighborhood to 94 degrees. take a look what's happening. temperatures from 53 in half moon bay. a little bit warmer in san jose at 62 and antioch 68 and 54 though in santa rosa and san francisco. want to let you know there is the possibility not today, not wednesday, could have an issue
