oh, my god. oh, my god. >> the witness who recorded that video did not want to be identified but he said the suspect had a knife and refused to drop it. investigators say this all began when vallejo officers attempted to stop a car connected to an armed robbery in el cerrito. the driver led police on a high-speed chase for 15 minutes ending in richmond. >> the suspect exited the vehicle. and he was armed. >> authorities say the suspect had a machete and refused multiple orders to drop the knife. five officers opened fire, hitting the suspect several times. he was pronounced dead at the scene. his name has not yet been released. live in martinez, tiffany wilson, abc7 news. >> thank you. the santa clara county sheriff's office is asking for your help in finding a missing at-risk woman. 69-year-old nu chung is reported missing yesterday.

she was last seen wearing gray shoes and an identification card. if you see her, you're asked to call the sheriff's office. >> the teenager who jumped out of the emergency exit of a copa airlines plane is not likely to face criminal charges. that's according to the san mateo county d.a. who spoke with abc7 news. they tell us the 17-year-old bay area resident and u.s. citizen is getting mental health evaluations. he went to the hospital after sliding down the wing of the panamanian airliner and obt the tarmac at sfo tuesday. >> we have new details on the close call at sfo last month. the air canada plane was even closer to planes getting ready to take off than previously thought. >> the plane also disappeared from radar for 12 seconds. melanie woodrow dug into the latest federal report. >> these newly released pictures show just how close that close call was last month. an air canada pileant mistaking a taxiway for a runway. >> air canada flew directly over us. >> i saw that.

>> this was a disaster averted. >> they say the plane was just 59 feet from the ground. chris is a retired pilot. >> the fact that the united 787 that was number one on the taxiway had a tail height of approximately 56 feet, it's alarming to take the difference between 59 and 56, but i think the aircraft were separately by a significant amount. >> the air canada pilot questioned lights he saw on what he believed was the runway. >> it's a very rare occurrence for pilots to actually lock on to a taxiway at night versus the runway because taxiway lights are blue and runway lights are white. >> according to the report, the air canada flight was so off course, it hit a blind spot in the radar system for 12 seconds. they should have alerted air traffic controllers the aircraft was not where it was supposed to be. the pilot radios the control tower to let them know air canada was descending on the

taxiway. he had already begun to pull up when air traffic control ordered a go around. >> as close as it was and as potentially scary as it was, the whole thing worked. the system is safe. >> ntsb has not reached a final conclusion in its investigation. melanie woodrow, abc7 news. >> a mendocino county man is facing child abuse charges after his 2-year-old son was found tied to a tree branch at a homeless encampment. it happened last week, but authorities are just now revealing this. the sheriff's office says wilson's son was wearing only a diaper and was secured to a tree by a rope around his wrist. the child is now in the custod of child protective services. >> for the first time, the golden gate bridge parking lots will be closed for more than just a single holiday weekend. they'll close vista point and marin every saturday and sunday this month through labor day. it's to prevent traffic waiting for parking spaces from backing

up on the bridge. tactsies are allowed on the east lot. farmers asking the state to pay them $15 million for the business he lost during the oroville dam crisis. he says the water rushing down the feather river wiped out 21 acres of walnut orchards. in february, the state cut water releases when the main spillway began to crumble. it pushed the lake close to overflowing. it forced 188,000 people to evacuate. the claim alleges that the state failed to protect the property of landowners downstream of lake oroville. let's open up and expand our like at live doppler 7 down to the south because that's where the moisture is coming from. yesterday, during the midday show, if you were with us, there were a lot of thunderstorms around santa barbara, down towards l.a. and palm springs. right now, those have tapered just a little bit. the moisture plume is still making a beeline for us. the threat is out there again

down. that threat is over. this follows the arrest of four men over the weekend. officials suspect them of being involved in a plot to smuggle an explosive device onto a plane headed to the middle east. travelers have endured really long lines at airports across australia for nearly a week due to that enhanced security. but today, those passengers will finally get some relief. natasha. >> all right, thank you. happening today, the massachusetts woman convicted of involuntary manslaughter for encouraging her boyfriend to take his life faces sentencing. michelle carter was 17 when she sent her suicidal boyfriend dozens of text messages telling him to do it. a judge found carter was guilty of involuntary manslaughter in june and she now faced up to 20 years in prison. >> a story you only see here on abc7 news. residents in millbrae are hoping a burglar will be caught after victimizing a vulnerable neighbor.

the victim has dementia and now her family can't help but wonder if she was targeted. home surveillance captured video of the burlgler. her antiques, jewelry, and other priceless possessions were taken. >> this is the first time i experienced this. you know, they search everything. they took everything i had. >> these memories of her past, of her husband, are all that she has. they even took locks of her late husband's hair. >> the woman's family has posted video of the burglar on facebook. so far, it's been viewed more than 100,000 times. >> a heads-up if you live in danville. police plan to hold a drill involving an active shooter scenario. the training exercise will take place between 8:00 and noon at the rock church. it will be limited to the areas within the church grounds and won't extend into the surrounding neighborhood. it will involve simulated firearms and explosive sounds. >> the santa clara county fair

threat today. it will be cloudy and mild to even warm tonight. and an outdoorable weekend ahead. you can see the radar returns. few and far between. most of this is up around say 18,000, 19,000 feet so it's evaporating before it reaches the ground. temperatures milder in the south bay. 90 at san jose to mid 90s in los gatos, morgan hill, and gilroy. as far as the peninsula, low to mid 80s until you get to millbrae at 75. mid 60s along the coast to 70 in downtown san francisco. up in the north bay, mainly upper 80s to low 90s. along the east bay shore, how about upper 70s to mid 80s with oakland around 79. and as you head inland, a lot of mid to upper 90s. your temperatures tonight, 50s and 60s. a few sprinklings of 70s. especially inland east bay and south bay. my accuweather seven-day forecast, the threat of a thunderstorm, it fades as we head through tomorrow. look at the temperatures back to average by saturday, and temperatures are pretty steady as our pattern will be a little quieter sunday all the way
