the flames may be out, but the danger lingers in the berkeley hills. firefighters know a spark could lead to disaster in the area that the oakland hills fire happened more than 25 years ago. thanks for joining us. i'm matt keller. kristen will be in later today. right now 160 firefighters are on scene in the berkeley hills. lonnie rivera is here with us now with more on what's going on there. >> reporter: matt, as you can, firefighters on this hillside are mopping up. they are removing eucalyptus

trees, a lot of the leaves very flammable. no visible ground fire, but it's hot, and they are expecting to be here all day. firefighters are putting in overtime to keep the grisly fire in berkeley hills contained. the grews from six different bay-area agencies are working in teams to stay on top of flare-ups. >> we know that we have a good handle on this incident, and we're projected to work throughout the day. >> reporter: fire started wednesday afternoon near lawrence berkeley national lab. transmission lines in the fire's path made crews consider shutting down the power at uc berkeley. that never happened. >> the topography of this area is very challenging for our personnel with the steep grade. >> reporter: steep terrain made for dangerous conditions. one firefighter fell 50 feet when he encountered a or net's nest. >> the injuries were minor, and that person is recovering at this time. >> reporter: these crews are pthe east bay.the fire danger in the area is close to where the oakland hills fire storm

lows. some of them without air conditioning. not cooling off during the overnight. that's why the heat advisory continued through this evening until 9:00 for the higher elevations where we're dealing with this heat for about the third day in a row. let me break down your 12-hour day plan to give you an idea what to expect out of the rest at noon, 66 at the coast and near 80 inland. we're going to be mostly cloudy, and that's the key. that's why temperatures won't be quite as hot as yesterday. we just don't have the sunshine, but we do have a little bit of humidity out there, and that's going to make it feel just as warm, and it also puts a threat of a thunderstorm in the forecast. i'll have more of that coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. >> reporter: track today's hot weather with the accuweather app. it's free. search accuweather in the app store to download it. developing news in the east bay. abc 7 news has obtained cell phone video showing the seconds leading up to a deadly police shooting yesterday. vallejo police officers opened fire shooting and killing a man. we'll show you a video.

the santa clara county district attorney is considering the possibility of more charges against the owner of an art music story who is accused of producing child porn. police believe el verde nguyen hid a camera inside of his studio. the hidden camera captured illicit images of a child under the age of 10. the fbi is now examining images captured by that camera. new details in the recall effort against a judge in the brock turner case. aaron perksy has hired a political consultant who ran president trump's campaign in arizona. rdp strategies perksy says he was following a recommendation from the santa clara county probation department. new this morning, the trump administration is threatening to deny federal resources to

so-called sanctuary cities, including two in california. the two cities are stockton and san bernardino. attorney general jeff sessions says those cities must cooperate with federal immigration authorities, or he will withhold funding to fight crime. both cities have applied to participate in a federally funded anti-violence program. a new poll this morning shows president trump sinking in popularity. quinnipiac university survey says just a third of american voters approve of president trump's performance. when asked if they believed the president's attempted to derail or obstruct the russian meddling investigation, 58% say yes and 37% say no. president trump will hold a campaign-style rally tonight in west virginia and then embark on a 17-day vacation. just in, new details about what's next for former white house communications director anthony scaramucci. he's just cancelled an online event planned for tomorrow. scaramucci tweeted this morning he'll focus on his family and work in the private sector instead. he was expected to reveal new

details about his time in the white house and his future plans. scaramucci was fired after just 11 days on the job. well, new details this midday on oakland's pothole blitz. roads took a beating from the heavy rain this past winter but oakland leaders are promising a smoother ride. abc 7 news reporter tiffany wilson is live in oakland with when just happened. tiffany? >> reporter: more than 5,000 potholes have been filled, and aa lot of work has been done like what's going on here on 51st street. city officials admit there's still a lot more to do. >> this is the sound of progress. after seven weeks of working 12 hours a day mayor libby schaaf says city crews have filled 5,208 potholes and repaved 1.6 miles of oakland streets. that is a record, but, boy, did the city need it. >> reporter: and she says the city still needs it. >> our city streets have suffered from decades of neglect

and underfunding, but thanks to the generosity of oakland voters who passed measure kk last year by more than 82% of the vote, for the first time we will be knocking down the backlog of street repairs in this city. >> reporter: mayor schaaf says oakland has built up nearly half a billion dollars in unfunded street maintenance and right now half of the city's 800 miles of street need some level of repair. city leaders know the potholes cause real problems from damaged rims, to flat tires and bike spills and pedestrian falls so oakland is looking to hire 20 more street repair workers right now. >> oakland efforts want to be proud of what they see when they walk out the door. >> reporter: repair crews are working off of the five-year plan prioritizing streets that are in the worse shape and get the most traffic. if you haven't seen a fix in your area yet. they ask for patience. >> and if you know of a significant pothole, city

a developing news involving the stolen scripts from "game of thrones." it turns out the cyber attack might just be the start of hbo's problems. the fbi is now reportedly investigating after hackers stole 1.5 terabytes of data sunday night. that's seven times bigger than the 2014 attack on sony pictures. it's equivalent to about 500 hours worth of movies. abc's t.j. holmes has the story. >> reporter: trying to give perfect i have to how much information it is, 1.5 terabytes, kind of goes over our heads. we're talking potentially in that much data, 100 million pages of documents could fit no

folks and we're recruiting you in san jose on saturday night. >> it will be fun. >> thanks for doing that, matt. >> a look at what's going on around. hi, everybody. let's move on to what i have to show you, and that is partly sunny conditions today. a storm threat. yeah. it's out there. even for us. i think the big story, people talk about how humid it is, at least by our standards. definitely is, that will keep us mostly cloudy to mild and warm. the extended, nothing to stress about with temperature in the mid-880s down in san jose for the earthquake's game. talking about what is happening. even with the lack of sunshine. 69 san francisco, already a degree above our average, and we still have a couple of hours of warming. near 80 in san francisco and 77 in novato and 87 in san ramon and 86 in livermore. right around bodega bay, waves keep pulling away from the coast. a lot of moisture above 10,000

feet. sometimes it will make it down to the ground. there's another slug of moisture down there, and with the low pressure off the coast and its counterclockwise flow and high pressure to our north with the clockwise flow, that's going to steer this moisture towards us, and that's why we've got a chance of some thunderstorms as we head deeper into the forecast. temperatures today are going to run in the mid to upper 60s along the coast to about 70 in san francisco, and then what we're going to see as we move deeper into the forecast, those temperatures are going to, hmm, seems to be frozen. i'm trying to get over here and fix it. i can't seem to get control of the computer. >> mike, is this the only thing that's cold here in the bay area? your thing is frozen. computers are the only thing that's frozen. >> let me tell you what's happening. we'll stick it outside for a couple of hours. mid-60s along the coast to 70 in

san francisco. we'll have about 75 in millbrae and low to mid-80s for most of the peninsula. around 79 in oakland to 86 in fremont. up in the north bay 86 to 990s is our range there and inland east bay neighborhoods is about 92 to 97 degrees, and then the south bay is in the mid to upper 80s. now the threat of the storm, it deteriorates as we head through tomorrow and temperatures will fall back into the 60s, 70s and 80s by sunday, matt. >> a rally will get under way at city college of san francisco. city leaders and students are teaming up to celebrate free tuition. the rally is scheduled to get underway at 11:30. ccfs is crediting the free tuition program with a big enrollment boost, up 17% from this time last year. if you're interested you can still sign up for classes at city college. registration closes august 18th. a band that got its start right here in the bay area is launching a special event for fans today. green day is hosting a two-day pp-up event ahead of this weekend's concert at the oakland
