parks. good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> three people were taken to the hospital and right now officers are searching for the shooters. >> this happened just after 3:00 this afternoon at the normally packed delores park between the mission district and castro. >> abc 7 news reporter just spoke with police and has the latest. >> reporter: initially police said that they were three victims but witnesses, i spoke to have told me they only saw two people get into that ambulance who were shot. one was shot in the face. the other one apparently in the back of the leg. as we have said this is very disturbing because it hapened around 3:00 inside park which was very packed. now you're seeing sky 7 hd video. one witness told me between five to six young people, possibly teens were on that pedestrian bridge with their faces covered. one of them, that witness said

was strapped. you're hear the word strapped which means he was carrying a gun and pointed that gun at several people including the person you are going to hear now. >> the guy just gotten up there. what's going on? he's strapped. i turned around and it's in my face. it was that quick. six or seven rounds. almost the whole clip. i don't know how i didn't get hit. >> when i saw the gun i started saying to people with kids, it's a gun. it's a gun. go. the person with the gun was running. >> reporter: now those five to six young people ran, including the gunman. one witness said one of the injured had an ankle bracelet. we have not confirmed that with police and that person may have been the person they were targeting. police have confirmed that this was not random. it was not random shooting.

it was targeted shooting. >> at this point it does appear this is not a random act. that's one thing we want to make sure that people know. it is very concerning in any case because this is a park. >> reporter: now police saying right now not confirming if these were gang members. we are as surprised as some of the witnesses we talked to because before there were a lot of people at this park and it was 3:00 in the afternoon and what they are saying, a lot of these identified the man officers shot and killed in richmond last night. >> they say he's 45-year-old jeffrey. witness cell phone video shows him advancing towards officers as he held a machete. we have more information about what led to this chase. melanie. >> reporter: because that chase ended in the city of richmond, the richmond police department

is i venvestigating that fatal officer involved shooting. the suspect had been wanted in connection with a robbery that happened a couple of weeks ago. the victim in that robbery says the suspect threatened him as well. cameron says he couldn't believe his eyes. >> i realize he's got the cash register. i yelled at him what are you doing. >> reporter: two saturdays ago while he was in the back of the donuts with his dad, he says the man now identified as 45-year-old jeffrey barboa ran out with the cash register and threatened him. >> he said do you want to die? i got a flief aknife and a gun. he looked very desperate. >> reporter: his dad took down his license plate. a witness shared this cell phone video moments after police sp t spotted barboa's vehicle. >> he's going to kill limb. they're going to kill him. >> reporter: the man who took the video said he lunged at

officers. >> drop the weapon. get down. my heart goes out to the police officers that had to make that decision and had the way to the community on shoulders. i really just want to advocate for them. i femael awful for the family o the suspect. >> reporter: he was the executive director of clinical operations at north bay recovery center. the recovery center said it could not comment on whether he was an employee. the contra costa county district attorney's office is conducting a parallel investigation to the richmond police department. new details just in about a wild wrong way police chase

caught on camera by sky 7. we know the man behind the wheel was 30-year-old james sims of antioch. the chase started in dublin with sims driving the wrong way. the suspect drove the wrong way on interstate 580 before doing the same on city streets in oakland and piedmont. >> reporter: sky 7 picked up the chase in oakland as the driver headed west. he got off the freeway at 14th avenue disappearing under an overpass. he reemerged driving over a median making a right turn the wrong way. the pursuit picked up speed. that's where the driver came to a dead stop confronted by a police cruiser in front of wildwood elementary school. he didn't give up there. he spun around, headed back into oakland circling the piedmont

area. the chase appeared to be coming to an end back near 580 but the driver took off again. that's where an officer finally brought the chase to an end clipping the back of the bmw causing it to spin out and slam into the side of parked vehicle. officers, guns drawn ordered the man out of vehicle. he complied giving up without anymore problems. >> it was intense. the chp says sims a charged with evading police, driving with no license. cornell is gathering more information and have a live report for us at 6:00. expect traffic delays in the north bay because of this grass fire near sears point. it started around 11:00 this morning on lakeville highway. the press democrat reports car hit a power pole, knocked down power lines and ignited the fire. about five acres have burned. no word on any injuries. one way traffic control is in place on lakeville highway

between highway 37 and highway 116. a good samaritan help police arrest two people of sexually abusing children. police say a woman saw man texting about crimes on plane bound for san jose. one of those suspects was taken into custody. >> reporter: dan, police are calling this female passenger a hero. she was on a southwest flight headed here when she noticed something incredibly disturbing on a phone. somewhere midair on a southwest flight between seattle and san jose an alert passengr noticed man in front of her texting. it was in large font so she could read what it said. >> the conversations were very particular in regards to sex acts that were to be bperformed on a child. she continued to monitor this activity while taking pictures >> reporter: police tell us the female passenger, a young

teacher from washington told a flight attendants. when the plane landed 56-year-old michael keller was questioned by police. he was arrested for attempted child molestation and solicitation. >> if it wasn't for this particular passenger taking action, taking initiative to alert the staff and alert police, this catastrophic event would have been just horrific. >> reporter: detectives learn the person keller texted was 50-year-old gail burnworth. a child care provider also from tacoma. the fbi and seattle arrested her for raping a child and other sex crimes. they located the victim, a 5 and 7-year-old. both are in child protective custody. >> it's disturbing. some of the tex acts talked about not only molesting the children but performing ba inii

a charred hillside burned and was quite intense for a time. it started yesterday after grizzly peak boulevard. it remains closed from centennial to south park drive as firefighters work to contain it. abc 7 news reporter laura anthony is live with more on the story. >> reporter: first of all, we have not seen any smoke or flame today for the most part. oakland fire is telling us they are not expecting full official containment until tomorrow. as of today it's 50% contained. they have no expectation it will grow beyond its current 20 acres. >> reporter: with special permission they flew high above the work that remains on the

grizzly peak fire. >> we're making headway on the perimeter. making sure we are controlling the perimeter, taking care of our hot spots interior and continuing to extinguish hot spots and continue with our mop up operations. >> reporter: at the height of the fire wednesday afternoon no fewer than six agencies were on scene from oakland, berkeley and surrounding communities along with ground support from cal fire. >> oakland and the regional firefighters learned lessons from that 1991 fire storm. that's why we have been so vigilant to be on top of that fire today. we will continue to be on top of it until we know there is no more risk. >> reporter: in the meantime cal fire sent in an investigative team to help determine the origin and cause of the fire.

s >> we're getting information from agencies about investigations related to a person of interest, a suspect. >> reporter: so far there's no clear indication the fire was intentionally set. laura anthony, abc 7 news. the last old vessel polluting the bay is getting ready for a final voyage to a ship recycling yard in texas. the moth ball fleet set unuse for decades afloating toxic waste dump. we see how a legal fight got us to this point. >> reporter: crews are preparing the cargo ship for her final voyage to a texas wrecking yard. after being laid up for years in sass sassoon bay, she's the last ship scheduled to be dismantled. >> that was a heavy lift. we finished it up almost two months early. navy began restoring ships after world war ii reaching a peak of 300 many the 1950s be p

they were supposed to be able to quickly go back into service in an emergency but most contained. >> we're talking 57 vessels shedsing toxic paint that had zinc and mercury and lead. all this was getting directly into the bay. >> reporter: up to 20 tons of toxic clhemocamicals over the y. the work went quickly at first because scrap metal prices were high. they were making money scrapping the ships. things went so well it's become a model for the fleet. >> what we learned out here in california we have implemented at our other two fleets. the one in virginia and the one in texas. >> there's a lot less pollution in sassoon bay now. that means less pollution that the fish are eating. >> reporter: you'll still see a hand full of ships ready for

reactivation in case they need them. these ships will have a lot less pollution than the old ones. eric thomas, abc 7 news. happening now in los angeles county, flash flooding is washing out roads in the city of acto flr acton. this is a live look for you. look at that. >> there's scattered thunderstorms across southern california this evening. as you can see the storms are pretty lev. that cars are getting stuck in water that's several feet deep. the rain has washed out the backyards of some homes. strange weather in southern california for this time of year. we have look at what's happening. >> that's the monsoon moisture. the same moisture that we're watching that's drenching that area. we're watching for the potential for some showers and thunder here. as you take a look at live doppler 7 definitely seeing some

radar returns but most of them are off the coastline. we do have some greens and yellows. this moisture is moving out over the open waters. can't rule out the potential as you check out southern california that moisture is flowing from this the south. that's why the road was washed away. strong thunderstorms dumping heavy rain across the region. we're seeing numerous thunderstorms. definitely is intense out there. do you wan dew points are in the 50s and 60s across many parts of the bay area. that's what's making it feel so sticky. that monsoon moisture playing a role in our conditions. here is a look at our highlights. slight chance of shower and thunder will remain. muggy tomorrow. we're looking at a cooling trend through the weekend. it already started today and we'll keep it going as we head into friday and saturday and sunday. obviously, it doesn't feel like it's cooling because it's so here is a live picture from our

camera. you will notice that we are seeing some peaks of blue from pier 15 as we look across the bay. 69 in san francisco. it's 73 in oakland. a live look from our emoryville camera. 8 83 in santa rosa. 90 degrees in concord. heat related illness still possible. we do have excessive heat warning. just take it easy out there. stay hydrated and cool. here is your hour by hour forecast. 7:00 tonight. we'll still continue to see the monsoon flow. while that moisture is moving off the coast, it can't rule out a shower or an isolated thunderstorm. just be aware of this going into tomorrow morning. it's going to be another mild to warm morning tomorrow with the humid air in place. mid-50s to the low 70s.
