mike nicco is pretty excited about that. >> you can already haerb him. it's cool to watch, but every strike comes with a risk, doesn't it? >> it does. the cloud to ground is what we're worried about. a lot of that was cloud to cloud. it doesn't come to the ground, doesn't bring the 50,000 degrees of heat with it that could start a fire. and good news as we look at live doppler 7, that threat is just about ending as the lightning strikes you see those yellow bolts there, they are tapering rather quickly. so quick look at your 12-hour diplanner. storms possible through 7:00. the storms will taper by noon. it will just be kind of warm and humid this afternoon. >> all right, taking a look at the roads. we have had a couple issues in the south bay. a roll over crash on the northbound 880 off ramp to southbound 101. we also have an emergency road closure here. the southbound 87 off ramp to northbound 280 is fully closed until likely about 6:30 this morning. again, that's for attenuator repair. keeping a close eye on the. we'll look at drive times in a few minutes.

i want to get you an update on the breaking news we have been following all morning long in campbell. 16 cars went up in flames overnight in the area of april way and hamilton avenue. hamilton is closed to commuters. they are estimating at least until 7:00 a.m. this is the mess left behind. this is actually not a live picture. let's put that down. this is video from a few moments ago. i can show you the cars there. you really can't tell what they are. the cleanup is under way. firefighters are actually being credited for stopping it from spreading to some nearby homes. investigators are out there, too, at this very minute. they're trying to figure out where this thing or how this thing began. they actually have somewhat of an idea of where it started. they're working out the details on how the fire began. our reporter matt keller is live out there for us. he's gathering details and we'll have a live update from him at 6clerk 30. stick around for that. natasha, reggie, back to you.

>> thank you. police still have not found out whoever was behind a shooting at dolores park. three people are hurt including a teen. >> now we're learning you can expect increased police presence over the warm weekend. tifany wilson live at san francisco police headquarters. tiffany. >> reporter: good morning, reggie. that is right. san francisco police say they will increase patrols at dolores park following yesterday's triple shooting. the park was packed with families, tourists, and children yesterday when the gunman or gunmen opened fire on the pedestrian bridge off church street. it's no secret the park is popular on weekends. police will assign two extra officers to the park from early morning until after dark to help ease everyone's concerns. the three victims were taken to sf general for treatment. one man is in kridicate condition. another was treated and released, and the third victim is a teenage boy. one witness described his very close call. >> just a moment of glimpsing up

and seeing one person raising the gun to my face. and that's when six or seven rounds got shot off. and i just took off running. two people got hit behind me, and luckily, i only had a fragment stick to my pants. >> police say the shooting does not appear to be random. the suspect or suspects are still on the run. live in san francisco, tiffany wilson, abc 7 news. >> thank you. on to developing news in the east bay where we're learning more about the man shot and kimmed by vallejo police officers in richmond. he was 45-year-old jeffrey barboa of benicia. vallejo police say he was wanted in connection with the armed robbery of an el cerrito doughnut shop two weeks ago. a worker there says he ran out with the cash register. >> he said do you want to die? i got a knife and i got a gun. my dad and i, we looked him in the face. he looked really desperate. >> vallejo police say that officers tried to pull barboa over on wednesday night, but he wouldn't stop and led them on a

high-speed chase into richmond. witness cell phone video shows him advancing to officers as he held a machete. police say he refused numerous orders to drop the weapon. five officers opened fire, killing him. >> the man accused of murdering kate steinle on san francisco's pier 14 is headed to court. the judge in the case expected to possibly set a date to start jury selection. juan francisco lopez sanchez has pleaded not guilty to second degree murder chargers. steinle was walking along the pier with her father when she was shot in 2015. lopez sanchez, an undocumented immigrant, told abc7 news two years ago the gun went off accident alafter he fount it under a bench. he had been deported five times before the chuting. >> san jose unified school district is beginning to designate all inclusive restrooms at its campuses and offices. we were at lincoln high school which was the first to open an all inclusive restroom last year. all inclusive is defined as open to all gender identities.

all campus will have one in or near the health office by the end of the year. >> developing news in the relationship between the u.s. and a close ally. this follows the leaking of transcripts of a phone call between president trump and australian prime minister malcolm turnbull. the two leaders sparred over the phone about a deal former president obama had brokered regarding refugees. a transcript shows president trump called the agreement, quote, stupid, discusting, and horrible. prime minister turnbull just painted a more cordial picture of their relationship. >> we have a warm relationship. you have seen that with our meeting in new york, in hamburg. we have a good relationship between the president and myself. above all, the relationship between australia and the united states is very deep, very enduring. >> back at home, new hampshire senator jeanne shaheen is angry following president trump

calling her state a drug-infested den when he spoke with mexico's president. today, attorney general jeff sessions and director of national intelligence dan coats plan to hold a news conference. they're expected to discuss the trump administration's ongoing efforts to combat intelligence leaks and how they threaten national security. afterward, there will be a private meeting with reporters which will include rod rosenstein. the news conference starts at 8:00 a.m. >> some bay area construction crews are escaping the heat by working at night. a team of construction workers in walnut creek worked overnight. this was taken around 2:00 a.m. and temperatures were still around 80 degrees there. the project superintendent says in the trade of construction, you learn to adapt. >> during the day, we have been hitting high 90s, 100 degrees. working with brick, it has a tendency to heat up temperature a little more. so what we do is we come here during the night where the weather is cooler.

live doppler 7. we have been watching the storm over lodi and stockton. some rain is possible over antioch and brentwood in the next 45 minutes or so. >> all is quiet on golden gate bridge right now, but as we mentioned a few minutes ago, also going to be quiet this weekend, and maybe not in a good way. so try to prevent the backups on 101, they will be closing the parking lots on golden gate bridge both on the south end, on the san francisco side, and on the sausalito side at vista point there as well. that's going to happen every weekend through labor day. we see the big backups that pile onto the freeway. if you're in a tour bus, you can park there. if you're taking mass transit, you can park there. that is it, no personal vehicles. that not going to be easy to view the bridge this weekend. quick check outside. we do still have a roll-over crash reported northbound 880 to southbound 101, doesn't look like it's causing major impacts. i promised drive times at 6:20. >> thousands of people have apparently canceled their reservation for tesla's model 3.

we're back at 6:24. a northern california woman expressing her thanks after two strangers and two police officers risked their lives to get into the water and save her. the woman's car plunged into a lake seconds after crashing into another car in marysville yesterday morning. two mensa her submerged car and jumped into the lake. then a pair of police officers also jumped in to help pull the woman to safety. >> i tried to open the door, and open the door, the water came gushing out. marysville's police chief thanked all of the rescuers for

>> i flipped mine on a couple times. a pretty friday light commute. so we could have some slick ramps. it's been a long time since we have had moisture on the roadways. a quick update northbound 880 off ramp to southbound 101 is closed. they are saying they should have it open in the next five minutes. they're trying to pull the vehicle out of the way. hear not hearing about any injuries either. an update on the benicia crash in less than ten. at the live desk, i want to show you these dramatic images of a massive car fire in campbell. these are new videos of the flames we saw early this mrning. 16 cars are burned. most of them just charred rubble at this point. let's check in with abc news reporter matt keller live on the scene. matt. >> reporter: jessica, now that we have some more daylight, you can see the damage. it is extensive damage here at this apartment complex in campbell. 16 vehicles in all were destroyed by the flames overnight. you can see many of them are

just unrecognizable. take a look, though, at the cell phone video. really amazing flames from a neighbor here. they destroyed a fence separating the parking lot with some homes on april way. residents were spraying the flames with their garden hoses. firefighters were able to keep it from spreading to any of the structures around here. one mom was not taking any chances. >> nothing like having to evacuate your kids at 3:00 a.m. so scary. >> you moved them over there. >> just to keep them safe because we didn't know how big and how long it was going to go on. there were a few moments where it was pretty big and pretty intense and scary. >> the next step is figuring out what started the fire. two investigators are out here looking at the cause. they will determine if this was started intentionally or not. now, hamilton avenue is back open, so traffic shouldn't be an issue this morning. i did talk to some of the residents whose cars were destroyed. they say they're going to be checking with their insurance companies this morning. matt keller, abc7 news. >> unbelievable images. thank you, matt. happening today, the two men

charged in the deadly ghost ship fire in oakland are due back in court. derick almena is also scheduled to have a bail hearing. max harris who hosted the party at the warehouse had his bail reduced to $750,000. both men face 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter for last december' fire that killed three dozen people. >> the fire that broke out in the hills above uc berkeley may have been arson. that's according to campus police. crews are still trying to contain hot spots that keep flaring up. but they managed to keep the flames to 20 acres. drone view 7, as you can see here, shows us some of the scorched land. the fire started wednesday afternoon on grizzly peak near the scene of an earlier vehicle collision. police are trying to figure out if an armed man who left the accident scene and came back later had something to do with the fire. the federal government now faces a wrongful death lawsuit from the parents of a muralist murdered with an i.c.e. agent's stolen gun. ramos died after being shot while volunteering on a mural beneath interstate 580 in

oakland nearly two years ago. a suspected gang member is charged with ramos's murder. the murder weapon was stolen from a car rented by i.c.e. in san francisco two weeks before the deadly 2015 shooting. federal officials haven't commented on the suit. right now, the bay area faces an increased danger for wildfires sparked by dry lightning or thunderstorms without rain. one tiny spark can trigger a massive fire, and that's why calfire has volunteers watching out for rising smoke from a lookout tower on mt. hamilton. >> they give us a bird's eye view, they can give us the state of the weather, the ican give us what the weather is actually doing versus always watching computer models. >> calfire tracks the weather with computers and monitors, video feeds, to look for any sign of smoke. bay area firefighters are also ready to go on a moment's notice no matter how they find out about a fire breaking out. >> president trump about to start a 17-day vacation while a grand jury looks at possible russian tampering with last year's election. the white house said it waw unaware of the panel but insists

that it's cooperating with the probe being led by special counsel robert mueller. meanwhile, mr. trump deflected accusations that his campaign was involved with meddling by russia. >> the russia story is a total fabrication. it's just an excuse for the greatest loss in the history of american politics. that's all it is. >> president trump does have the power to fire mueller from his post as special counsel. two democratic senators have introduced a bill to make it harder to do so. >> concord police need your help in identifying a man who tried to kidnap a teenage girl. take a look at your screen. investigators released this sketch of the suspect. he approached the 16-year-old on july 6th. as he spoke to her, he grabbed her arms and tried to pull her towards his car. she fought back, kicking and punching him. finally forcing him to let go. he is described as hispanic, between 35 and 40 years old,

weighing about 160 pounds. he was also wearing glasses. the man drove away in a made sedan similar to this 2000 buick. >> only on abc7 news, a driver created chaos on east bay streets during a wild chase that lasted nearly two hours and put other drivers in danger. sky 7 capturing the driver of a bmw weaving in and out of traffic. it started on interstate 580 in the dublin pleasanton area, it ended up 25 miles away in the streets of oakland. there were plenty of close calls with oncoming cars. a chp officer finally brought this to an end, doing a p.i.t. maneuver, spinning the suv around. it slammed into a parked car. 30-year-old james sims surrended to police. he was charged with car left, evading police, and driving with an expired license. >> happening today, a series of furlough fridays begin for local courthouses in san francisco. today marks the first of 11 fridays when san francisco courts will provide fewer services and force many employees to take unpaid day

off. this faollows the state cutting the court's budget by 9% for the current fiscal year. if you need to file papers, you can do so using drop boxes set up outside the clerk's office. reducing services is helping to avoid layoffs. >> anchor brewing's new owners appear to be undecided in a plan to produce beer near at&t park. japan's sapporo brought the brand. anchor brewing runs a brewery on petrero hills. in 2013, the giants and anchor brewing unveiled a plan to open another brewery along with a restaurant at pier 28. now that project has been delayed and its projected costs have skyrocketed. >> new this morning, toyota and mazda plan to build a massive $1.6 billion assembly plant in the u.s. already, the president is commenting, sending out a tweet saying toyota and mazda to build a new $1.6 billion plant in the usa and create 4,0 thou,000 amen
