>> it can rain in august. active weather is surrounding us at the moment. live doppler 7. you get it double thunder showers. they've given way to 55 lightning strikes. meaning there's showers and storms at the moment have the potential to make a lot of water in a short amount of time. what we're watching, live doppler 7, along with satellite. even has a couple of showers just off the coast to us. live doppler 7 showing you one or two lightning strikes associated with it in the last two hours or so. over the next 12 hours and right on the outer fringe it may scrape by parts of the north bay and try and touch off a thunder shower after midnight tonight. so we'll track that system a little bit closer and i'll tell you cooler weather headed our way. all that after the forecast in just a minute.

the two men are suspected of killing a hair stylist in chicago. those two arrested in the bay area from chicago. it was so vienlt that police say the knife broke off in the victim. they were on the run for more than a week until last night. >> we're learning from u.s. marshals. they came to the bay area because they helped negotiate their surrender to police. a motive for the crime still unknown. two wanted men on the run now in custody for the brutal murder of a chicago man. 42-year-old brendan lathem surrendered peacefully in oakland friday night. >> we were able to negotiate the surunder at the oakland federal court house. >> reporter: he gave himself up at the park police station in san francisco around the same time. both men face first degree murder charges in the stabbing death of cosmetologist.

chicago police found his body nine days ago, describing a horrific crime scene inside the chicago apartment after getting an anonymous 911 call. the same day an hour away in wisconsin the two suspects made a mysterious donation to a public library. investigators believe professor lathem and him had a relationship. lathem sent video to family and friends apologizing for the murder, saying it is the biggest mistake of my life. seen here in another online video was a microbiologist at northwestern for 10 years. >> research and he seemed like a perfectly normal guy. >> reporter:hedeclined our request for a jai house medical supervision.'s under both awaiting extradition back a illinois. abc 7 news. we sent out a push alert

about last night's arrest moments before it was confirmed by police. you can be the first to know when breaking news happens. santa rosa police shot and killed a man they say was armed with a knife. officers arrived to a home early this morning after a call about a man acting crazy. police say they found him under a bed and when he wouldn't drop the knife, they used electronical instruments. at least one officer opened fire killing him. the video will not be released as it's investigated. a man is dead after being fatally shot at a belmont apartment this morning just after 5:00 a.m. when officers got there they found the wounded man and large crowd outside the apartment where the shooting occurred. he died at the scene. no arrests have been made. police are still looking for the

motive. it was a day where commemoration on the five-year anniversary of a massacre at a wisconsin temple. abc news was at the san jose where volunteers -- volunteers were building and packing hygiene kits. >> and these kits will go to those who are victims of domestic violence because usually when they come to the shelter, they don't have anything. they don't have money, any belongings. so these kits help them. >> they say the gunman had ties to white supremacist groups killed himself. an east bay father of three has been deported while the man detained with him awaits his fate. seen here with his wife was detained in may. they were arrested as they reported to a new construction

job. both men were -- our media trial is reporting that nunez has been deported. east bay congressman is spending part of a washington recess with his constituents in town hall meetings. abc 7 news was in union city where he addressed a large crowd. it's one of two town halls. the other is in livermore. the congressman also talked about the current political climate and his concern about the nexed election. >> my biggest concern is that the biggest election of the future is not hacked. we must make sure we are not emboldened by doing nothing. i hope we secure the ballot box as we go into the 2018 midterm election. >> he says he likes meeting his constituents. last week he took a hike with people from castro valley. hamilton's san francisco run is over for now.

final curtain call was tonight. lawny rivera is live with more for us. lonnie. >> two shows today. the next one is at 8:00. and take a look to my right all these boxes you see are filled with props. part of the show. this already packed up because hamilton is headed to los angeles. but people really seem to not be able to get enough of this broadway musical. about 20 minutes ago after the cast came outside here, just after the 2:00 show wrapped up, they came outside and signed autographs. it was really like being at rock show. each time each one walked out you heard oohs and ahs and screams. and the cast members tell us performing here in san francisco was special. >> it's a bag of mixed emotions. i've never been to san francisco

hundreds of firefighters on the front lines of two california wild fires are being treated for poison oak and they say it's pretty common. it burned 18,000 acres near santa rbara. it burned 27,000 acres in the same region. they say it happens with most wild fires as it spreads from the plants to their gear. >> lot of guys get it when they're out there in the brush. when you get the oil on you and you're stuck with it. >> poison oak can cause severe itching. it's usually treatable with california creams. they're rethinking the rules with antibiotics after studies suggest they're over prescribed a portion of the time. it's creating superbugs and if they're resistant to the drugs which lead to 23,000 deaths each year. they say shorter courses of the drugs for dangerous infections

nearly 900 backpacks were distributed to deserving kids this morning. they were stuffed with all the necessary school supplies to make the first day a smooth one. >> a big deal to be able to start school like every other kid, new shoes, new supplies. >> they were all donated by local compopies and organizations. volunteers assembled the backpacks. and an accuweather we got rid of the humidity of late last week. it feels comfortable out there right now. and tomorrow the numbers are going to be a bit cooler to round out the weekend. we're seeing we got a mainly quiet picture over head. clouds right along the coast and a typical picture for this time of year. just off the coast live doppler 7 tracking just a few showers popping up and these are about 50 miles off the coast right now. the wider view got a little bit
