you can see that breaking news. sky 7 zooms in on a crane toppled onto its side. at the other end a mangled crane and a roof with a gaping hole in it. >> thanks for joining us. let's show you where this is all happening. the crane fell on a home on sandra way. that's off of west lattimer in the city of campbell. david is there live with more. >> reporter: we are live right here. you can see here there's a twin crane to the one that fell over standing at the end of sondra way. that's identical to the one that crashed this afternoon and tipped into three properties. one house on here and sondra and one on charmain. sky 7 was over head minutes after this crane accident happened. we're told the boom was extended

at 190 feet. it was working being operated by contractors for pg&e. the residents had their power turned off while this wor being done. they tha they thought everything was going fine. the crane that fell over smashed two sheds in the backyards of homes. then it crashed into the roof of the house. you can see how bad the destruction is. given the reach of the 190-foot boom this is a lot of heavy weight and could have been catastrophic. no injuries were reported. we did talk to a woman whose house did have damage. the crane fell into a shed in her backyard and we talked to a baa abattalion chief on how thi happened. >> it was a huge crash.

>> did it shake the house? >> it didn't shake our house that i remember. i ran outside to find out that everybody was okay. that was the main concern. everybody was fine. nobody was hurt. >> they believe the boom was extended to 190 feet when it was doing its lift. that's when it tipped over and they're going to be working on trying to bring the boom sections back in and up right in the crane. it's a dauntsing task but these guys are up to it. >> reporter: crews are on the scene trying to figure out how to right the tipped over crane. they will be here for quite a while. it could be until 8:00 or later tonight until they get it back in good order. we are told that the homeowners of the house in which the crane fell and crashed through the roof, they were not home at the time. they are still not here and have a rude awakening when they do

get home. we know more about the shooting death of a 71-year-old man on twin peaks. it was revealed the 20-year-old woman was the alleged shooter and not the young man she was with. both will be charged with murder. >> reporter: wu found out that the alleged female shooter is in the hospital for reasons unknown to us. number two, as we begin to dig deeper it becomes apparent that this death could have been avoided. lis took this booking photo of 20-year-old fantasy decuir from her hospital bed. she was meant to be in court today. both akuccused of killing edwar french on twin peaks. >> she's in the hospital and will be back on friday. >> reporter: friday is when both suspects will be arraigned. in court today it was vealed

that decuir shot french in order to steal his camera. mims who is 19 will be charged with murder for aiding and abetting. family and friends of the former film location manager were in court today. they told us french was up on twin peaks taking pictures of the sunrise. >> i'm here to hopefully find some closure for his death. also, i'm here to see that justice is served. >> reporter: in july 2016, mims had been convicted of a burglary in san mateo. while on felony probation he was arrested on july 7th of this year for possessing a firearm. on july 11th, he was arraigned in court but released by a judge while waiting for his next hearing. five days later on july 16th, police say both mmims and decui committed the crime. the judge released mims based on a recommendation for the

diversion project which made a risk assessment of mims and found him to be a mid-level risk. it's way to avoid overcrowding the jail. the family says he should have never been allowed to go free. >> i'm sorry. people need to be held responsible for that and the people that let him go need to be held responsible for that as well. >> reporter: phone calls to that unit which partners with the sheriff's department were not returned. in san francisco, abc 7 news. local and federal authorities are saying very little about major law enforcement operation today in the bay area. our media partners at hoodline posted this video from twitter user showing federal agents and police being transported to different parts of the region including the sunnydale district in san francisco. abc 7 news sources say the atf led today's operation. officers served more than 100 arrest warrants and executed 30 swarn search warrants. the investigation focused on

gun, stolen cars and fences for stolen properties. san jose police hope that surveillance footage or a witness help them capture the robbers who killed a liquor store owners. family, friends and customers placed tributes to charlie lee at the store. he ran the store for several years. last night a mask man murdered the father of four. a nearby business owner described how lee was a helpful neighbor. >> i need to find someone help me and he'll say i know how to do it. i buy some stuff. >> senseless. this doesn't make any sense at all. i saw it on the news last night. i just had to come over here today. it's terrible. >> one of the people who spoke with us wasn't surprised lee put up a fight against the man who robbed and killed him. lee is san jose's 17th homicide victim of the year. a road rage suspect now faces arson charges after police say he confessed setting a fire

in the hills above uc we recollect -- berkeley. campus police arrested bautista. oakland police believe he deliberately smashed into another car and forced it to hit a parked car that morning. the victim says he threatened them with a rifle. a fire broke out several hours later. it burned about 20 acres. you're looking at surveillance video of a thief stealing more than valuables. he got away with bag of laptop computers containing hours of family footage that a woman spent years putting together. abc 7 news reporter has an update now to this story we first told you about a couple of days ago. >> i feel like my dad has a lot to share and gives these little doses of advice even if he's not meaning to be that way. >> reporter: she's spent the past five years documenting life with her terminally ill father charlie. family dinners, cross country

trips and his words of wisdom. these pictures and videos are precious to her. something she hoped to share with her future children some day but now they are gone. stolen from the back of her car. >> liz came to san francisco back this june to visit a friend and parked right here along olive street. she was only gone about two hours when somebody smashed the back window of her car. the thief took a bag full of laptop computers and back up drives with countless ho lesles family footage. >> it's kind of like grieving for him. it almost feels like the diagnosis, hearing it all over again. >> reporter: he file add police report and did track down surveillance video after a suspicious man lurking near her car. she also hired a private investigator. she's documenting new moments with her father but says it's impossible to recreate what was loss. >> all those memories in our heart but doing our best to see what was recovered. >> reporter: she knows getting

her electronics back is a long shot but hopes anyone with information calls police. grape spilled across a northern california highway when a big rib slammed into a pick up towing a camping trailer. pictures showing the mangled wreckage on highway 101 this morning. emergency crews used the jaws of life to remove the pickup's driver and passenger. one had to be air lifted to the hospital. the other was taken in an ambulance. you can see how bad it was. crews blocked traffic for two hours. sky 7 flew over this crash at mission boulevard in hayward. you can see van slammed into an autobody shop. one person in the van suffered minor injuries. the highway patrol is trying to figure out what went wrong. this morning's impact also damaged a car parked inside that shop. it seems there can be too much of a good thing and the heart of wine country move to

this is video of the chopper in action. in can drop 25,000 gallons of water every hour. it's useful not only if its ability to draw water but it can also get to areas that cal fires planes cannot. it will be stationed there for 90 days. a bike sharing program that just launched across the bay area has hit a bump in the road. some merchants in one san francisco neighborhood just don't want those bikes. >> reporter: the ford motor company and it part ner have placed thousands of these baby blue two wheelers on the street. in san francisco's mission district the mantra seems to be no bike until further notice. the company conducted two years of out reach but activists say it was a poor job.

>> our biggest problem with it is they fail to engage and simply sought to impose themselves upon the community without a proper communication or proper collaboration with the community. >> reporter: the mission has seen lots of changes this recent years. gentrification has pushed out long time latino residents. that's another reason they will oppose go bike. so far 400 of the bikes in the neighborhood have been vandalized. the operator tells us that's not unusual for new ventures and there's no plan to walk away for the mission. >> if we were remove stations from key areas including the bart stations we would be doing the program and the people who use it a disservice. our goal is to find locations that do work. >> reporter: more meetings have been called to see if a compromise can be reached.

another neighborhood is joining the bike area movement. today's spin launched a dockless program. all bikes are equipped with solar powered locks and built in gps. they can find a bike through the app, unlock it by scanning a code and self-lock it the same way in any location. ta means no more running to a kiosk. interesting. now to kids and how much they are glued to these elect n electronic devices. all that screen time can have a down side. >> michael, we put it down first. >> unless you're watching channel 7. your children should doll that. now we are learning screen binging could lead to real health problems for your children. consumer reports reveals what can go wrong and has ways to limit computer time especially during the summer months. try to make eye contact with a kid and it's almost impossible.

they are often looking at screens. what looks like harmless fun could be dangerous. a recently published study found that 18% of 9 to 10-year-old who is spend more than three hours on screens could be at higher risk of type two diabetes. >> it makes sense. kids are more likely to snack mindlessly this front of the screen than when outside or exercising. >> reporter: it doesn't help that screen time is accompanied by junk food ads. how do you get your kids no t to spend so much time in front of a tv or on devices? >> remember the old saying, monkey see, monkey do. if you're doing it, it's likely your kids are too. set limits on your own screen time and set limits for them. >> stick to them. good techniques force all family members to put devices away and turn off the today.

>> reporter: u use routers and block access during certain times of the day. there's also a media time calculator which can help determine age appropriate limits for your child. perhaps the best way to cut back on screen time, get your kids outside and into sports, biking, walking or just throwing a ball around. other things you can do which will really make a difference is have the whole family leave phones outside the bedrooms when it's time for sleep. it's also useful to track time spent on smartphone. you can use an app called moment and screen time. you might just be surprised. that means parents have to look up if from their phones. >> remember when we were kids playing outside was some of the best, happiest times. >> until dark. thanks. >> street lights came on.

we have the fog along the coastline. i do want to show you our radar is tracking thunderstorms once again just north of the clear lake area and if the thunderstorm holds together, lake port, you'll be seeing the potential for some lightning in the next really half hour or so. keep that in mind. as you check out northern california and the sierra, we're seeing numerous thunderstorms there. a red flag warning has been issued for that area. fire danger remains high. some of these thunderstorms do contain rain but not all of them do. there's definitely the potential with dry vegetation for seeing some lightning causing some fire starts. temperatures right now pretty comfortable. san francisco 61. oakland in the 60s. santa rosa really pleasant weather. 75 degrees and not too hot in concord or livermore.
