news reporter chris nguyen has more on the investigation. >> reporter: it's a journey that's left many puzzled, a 2-year-old boy found calling for the help on the grounds of the woods apartments in san jose just after 3:00 this morning. police believe he walked over from a couple blocks away. >> if the person was sleeping, is kid walked out, things like that happen. >> reporter: officer albert morales says the person caring for the child didn't notice him gone till hours later. >> it's my understanding when the call came in at about the 9:21 from the guardian, the message was they just woke up and noticed that the 2-year-old was missing. >> reporter: a woman who happened to be walking outside overnight noticed the child covered in mud wearing only a die mer and immediately little alerted a security guard who quickly responded. >> mom, dad, mom, dad in spanish. >> that was it? >> that's it. >> reporter: investigators say it's unclear how long he was outside for. some who live at the complex are

taped over. that's because it's normal procedure for those recordings to be overwritten within a few hours unless an incident is reported. air canada didn't immediately report the incident and federal officials have said there was no requirement to immediately report it. in atlanta today, a delta oklahoma, aborted takeoff after blowing two tires on the taxiway. passengers safely exited the plane and transported back to the terminal on buss. no one was hurt. officials are investigating what caused the tires to pop. santa clara county authors dropped domestic violence charges against former corner back jermaine brock because the victim refused to cooperate. santa clara police arrested brock on april 6th after he allegedly punched and tried to strangle his girlfriend during a dispute over what to watch on tv. the 49ers released him the very next day. new details today on that

pattern of thunderstorms has been with us all week long in the afternoon hours in the northern part of the state and down into the sierra as we enjoy calm weather here in the bay area as evidenced by this view at santa cruz beach where it's alive with activity this cloggy afternoon. these are our forecast features. pmorning drizzle near the coast and bay. mild to fairly warm days through saturday. slightly cooler on sunday and monday. right now, we're looking at temperature range from 61 at half moon bay to 90 over in brentwood. wide but typical range for us this time of year. the month of august so far, nine days into the month, the first three days feature temperatures slightly above average. last friday was spot on average. since saturday we've had a string of five consecutive days featuring below average temperatures. cooler than average but still pleasant out there. overnight the usual pattern. maybe spotty drizzle near the coast.

low clouds and fog pushing over the bay and locally inland. overnight lows in the upper fits to 60s. this is our pattern with temperatures and the fog going into the early morning hours. by 10:00 tomorrow morning, low clouds beginning to pull back from inland but lingering over the bay a bit. back to the coast by mid afternoon. not all the way to the coast. tomorrow much like today in terms of the sky conditions and the cloud cover and the temperature range. so let's take a look at highs tomorrow. 62 half moon bay, 67 in san francisco. we'll ceelo to mid-70s around the bay up in the north bay, hice of 86 at santa rosa. concord 87, livermore 88, down south 81. the expected high in san jose, we covered that, i said around the bay. low to mid-70s there. here's the seven-day forecast. there won't be much change in our current pattern through saturday. the warmest inland locations made touch 90 tomorrow.

unfortunately, to no avail. it's been a long five-year fight which has taken a personal and financial toll on both him and his family. >> we didn't think there wereny complications with it based on fact it was a very simp. >> reporter: don brown was wrong. it was not simple. his tireless effort to get his adopted chinese teenaged daughter permanent residency in the u.s. rewind the clock five years. in 2012, brown met and married his chinese wife who was here on a visiting scholar visa. brown adopted her daughter residency began cab ainlyppg after his wife got hers. he filed what he thought were all the right forms by going to the u.s. citizenship and immigration service website. but the applications kept getting denied for various reasons. earlier this year, the agency told him audrey had to have lived in china for two years in order to qualify for residency.

immigration supervisor. we hope all goes well. vic lee, abc7 news. >> thank you. a man accused of ramming his car into a group of french soldiers in a paris suburb is in custody. authorities say he plowed his car into the soldiers during a shift change injuring six. police caught him speeding toward the port city of calais. he was wounded during his capture. investigators say it was a deliberate attack but the motive is unknown. this is the sixth attack on french police and military forces just this year. last month, fbi agents raided the home of paul manfort. the agents seized materials in man fourth's virginia home as part of the ongoing russia investigation led bid special counsel robert mueller. it happened a day after man fourth met with senate intelligence committee investigators. had the documents seized included financial and tax some of the information had

manhunt, police arrested 39-year-old ian mccarthy last night and charged him with first degree murder. the officer's funeral is set for saturday morning. a judge denied a request from the boy scouts of america to scrap a case involving sexual abuse allegations. >> the organization found itself once again getting ready to head to court. here's maggie ruehle. for decades the boy scouts of america promised to keep your son safe. but now, yet another accusation of sexual abuse is making its way to the courthouse. >> it's time that the boy scouts of america take responsibility for what went on. it's time that they take responsibility for destroying the lives of thousands of young children across this country. >> reporter: today, a judge in new jersey ruled to move forward in the case of three men who accused their troop leader steven corcoran of abusing them decades ago.

astronomers are heading north for the by blackout. abc7 news was at the space and science center today where eclipse fever is running high. astronomer gerald mckeaguen is taking two rigs to oregon where these telescopes and cameras will capture eclipse images along the path of totality. >> this telescope will track it. all you need to do is set up the camera, program the camera to just start pictures every minute or so. until the eclipse is over. then you go through them and pick out the best ones and you know, show them to your friends. >> and glasses that you can use to safely watch the eclipse with being sold at the shy bow space and science view centering. they'll be holding a viewing party but get there early. a silicon valley giant wants to make sure every child enjoys the eclipse.

in the month of fogust. it's still with us along the bay. bright skies in the inland areas and thunderstorms to the north and east. there's nothing compared to hurricane franklin now churning in the western gulf of mexico. category 1 hurricane, winds 75 miles an hour. expected to make landfall early tomorrow morning in the eastern central part of mexico and move over land where it's expected to dump between 6 and 15 inches of rain in the areas that are hardest hit. it will be a flood producer for sure for some areas. it's going to slow down over the land areas and dump more rain before it exits very soon in the western part of the country. overnight here in the bay area, mainly cloudy skies. spotty drizzle. overnight lows in the upper fifties to around 60. tomorrow highs range from 60s at the coast to upper 80s inland. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. a rather steady pattern of temperatures over the next few days through saturday. maybe up to about 90 in the warmest spots.

this is what it adds up to. 1919 cups of sugar in a year. that is the equivalent of 52 pounds. this is a big problem. >> reporter: we need glucose but certainly not that much. here's how too much sugar can impact your body. it can lead to inflammation, cause stress due to off idation which damages blood cells from the brain to the heart to the kidney. here's what you can easily do to cut down your soda intake. if you can't go cold turk and craving some sort of sugar, try a sports drink. if you make the swap from one soda to one sports drink every day for a year, you could lose up to six pounds in just one year. okay, if you try coffee instead and skip the sugar, you could lose up to 9 1/2 pounds in a year. and while the best option straight water if you do that swap, listen to this, you could lose up to 14 pounds in a year.
