images that they didn't want to see. they have been told that women can't perform engineering jobs. >> the labor department reviews pay roll records and says it's found a systematic problem of google underpaying women. google says it disagrees with the department of labor's conclusion and says it has no gender pay gap. >> federal investigators say a bomb threat is linked to two international investigations. according to court documents, a man with dual u.s. and israeli citizenship was hired by unidentified person to threaten a high school in march. the bomb threat forced nearly 1600 students to evacuate. investigators believe the same man is also behind more than 200 threats targeting jewish community centers this year. this morning, he is in jail in israel, awaiting extradition to the u.s. oakland police investigating after a person was killed. so far, homicide detectives will only say the person died while a crime was being committed. the victim died on rich street

around 12:30 yesterday afternoon. police have not released details about people orcars links to the case. >> an east bay high school football team is scrambling to replace more than $10,000 in stolen equipment. helmets and other items vanished in mid-july at a washington high school in fremont. the burglary only came to light this week. the gym was unlocked during a construction project, so crews could get in and out of the building. the helmets alone are worth $300 apiece. gh if you have been anywhere near san francisco's chinatown, you have seen the construction on the central subway project. eventually, muni metro service is going to extend into that neighborhood. in the meantime, some business owners say the work is causing big problems. here's abc 7 news reporter leslie brinkley. >> reporter: up to 2 million visitors a year stroll through san francisco's famous chinatown. locals hit the markets here, too, but lately, business is down. >> about 15%. >> 15% fewer people coming in. this travel agency is surviving

the central subway tationde at stockton street is now slated to open in december 2019. a year later than planned. the construction zone is eating up valuable parking spots. >> we're trying to add parking because that was a direct request from the community and munchants there. they don't have enough parking. >> 12 new spots were recently carved out. >> san francisco supervisor aaron peskin's office says they have a plan in place to give a one-time hardship payment to the most impacted merchants. that could happen this fall. still, locals here say some of these longtime merchants are going out of business. >> business going down, so that's why they're going to close. yeah. >> and you felt like it was a good time to take a risk and open here? >> we are planning for the future. >> this jewelry store staged a soft opening today. a block from all the construction chaos. because in 2019, they envision

council meeting, i should say. from boulder city, and a woman sitting in the back of the room suddenly has her purse burst into flames. so watch here the highlighted area. you can see this man talk taing, and then all of a sudden, that purse that just blows up. i'm going to play it one more time for you. watch that woman in the back. the boulder city fire chief says a battery malfunction ignited items inside her purse. he says he's not certain whether or not what it was. he knows it was not a cell phone battery. you can see the person there talking to reporters. well, the fire chief says not sure exactly what was involved. he knows it wasn't a battery. the woman burned her leg. she was treated at the scene, sent home. she's doing fine, but pretty scary to see, reggie. >> that is some of the craziest video i have seen. >> this morning, walmart is apologizing for a poorly organized display. it appears to show guns labeled as back to school items. a twitter user posted this

picture from a walmart store yesterday. do you see this? you can see the gun display under a sign that says own the school year like a hero. a walmart spokesperson tells cnn the company is working to identify which store put up that display. walmart sells guns at about 1800 of its 4,000 stores in the u.s. >> a chase through several counties before a suspect tried to swim away from the highway patrol. you can see how the chase covered more than 100 miles from oroville to discovery bay yesterday. sky 7 flew above highway 4 moments after officers nabbed the suspect. he spent about an hour in the river taunting officers until they managed to pull him out. >> happening today, caltrain is giving riders a chance to provide input on onboard bike storage. one proposal is to stack bikes along the train wall. another option includes parking bikes at an angle. caltrain claims no matter what, new configurations will provide

more bike storage and they'll be polling at the booth aff4th and townsend in san francisco. it will be at various stations throughout august 24th. >> kids came together for america's favorite pastime this week on the peninsula, baseball. >> a team from san mateo kicked off against a team from japan. a cultural exchange that makes them all winners. katie marzullo has that. >> they came a long way, but the baseball diamond feels like home to these young players from japan. they came to the bay area to play a team from san mateo. its arer part of a sister city tradition that dates back to 1979. >> i like playing against other people, not just people in san mateo and in california. i just like playing against people out of the country. >> the game is played every other year, and the cities host every other time, but this tradition is about so much more than baseball. >> i learned good evening.

hopefully they're having a good time. i'm sure we're being very hospitable. let's look at what's going on right now outside. we'll open the weather window on the east bay commute. walnut creek, 680, a little drizzle possible through those areas and pockets of sunshine today. more inland, less at the coast. cloudy and cool, drizzle tonight. and our summer warmth returns late next week. let's look at the cloud cover. had a few people in the morning meeting, i don't know if they were complaining, but wondering if they were going to see sunshine today after hardly seeing any yesterday. you can see by noon, the bay is still pretty full of clouds and definitely at the coast. the bay will be partly cloudy today. so the clouds never completely leave you. and mostly cloudy at the coast. the greatest amount of sunshine will be inland, where we'll find some of our warmest weather. especially deeper into places like morgan hill and gilroy. 74 to 80 for most of the south bay. 78 in san jose. 68 in millbrae. 72 to 76 for the peninsula. low 60s along the coast. 64 in downtown san francisco. through the north bay, we'll go

low to mid 80s today. along the east bay shore, about 68 to 73. with oakland at 69. and one last stop, about 80 to 92. quite a spread in our east bay valleys. here's a look at my seven-day forecast. looking at slightly cooler weather for saturday, sunday, and a dry cold front will mean our coolest weather monday. then you can see us rebounding back to average by the time we get to wednesday. but it's thursday now, so we're thinking about the weekend. outside lands, i'll have that forecast for you up next. you say there's closings already? >> some road closures in place, and 70,000 people expected each day. >> that's all? >> yeah, tats it. 210,000 of your closest friends going to try to get to golden gate park. we'll have more on that at 5:00 this morning. here's a look at the bridge this morning, just watched the zipper trucks come through and give you more room on the southbound side. once again, last night, we had paving work, so we're down to just one lane in the overnight hours. they have been getting this done right on time if not early the last several days. so everything is back open for this morning's commute.
