>> announcer: live where you live, this is "abc 7 news." ♪ a south bay man gund down inside his own store. tonight grieving friends, family and customers gathered to honor the man they say was fiercely protective of his family. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. the vigil came hours after police announced they made an arrest, but tonight focus was on the victim. >> charlie ly was shot and killed inside his own store on monday night. "abc 7 news" reporter katie marzullo is live at the san jose police department with new developments this evening. d, a ly was much more than a liquor store owner to his customers. tonight they told stories of his generosity and friendship. >> kyle, david, jacob will continue to live out his enduring legacy. >> reporter: more than 100 people gathered at jim's liquor

mart to honor the long-time owner. >> he helped me tear apart my entire vehicle in his parking lot and helped me fix it. has given me things when i was in need. >> even when you don't have the right money to pay for him, he said, bring it later. he trusted the people that goes around his store. >> reporter: ly was known to be fiercely protective of his family. his wife was working alongside him when he was shot and killed monday night. thursday police arrested 21 year old muniumee in merced. they recovered a handgun they believe was used in the shooting. >> unbelievable investigative work. i'm giving you the tip of the iceberg of what the detectives had and did. >> reporter: he said video surveillance from the v vital i investigation. during the investigation he was trying to sell personal items that linked him to the crime. >> at least have closure and relief for the family that

justice has been served. >> reporter: hendrix was on probation for possession of a loaded firearm. in san jose, katie marzullo, "abc 7 news." developing news tonight. napa county where sky 7 shows a 114 acre grass fire threatening homes and forced evacuations of people and at least 50 horses. the canyon fire started around 1:00 this afternoon near highway 128 in sage canyon road on the west side of lake bariessa. one firefighters suffered minor injury. containment is up to 95% thanks to light wind and cooler temperature also. >> what can firefighters expect on the fire lines as they continue to deal with this all weekend? how about the forecast? >> here is meteorologist sandhya patel with the latest. >> dan and ama, let's check out current conditions near the fire line. it is much cooler and the humidity has come up. 74 degrees right now, 25% relative humidity. what is not so great is this is the wind condition right now. winds are gusting to 16 miles an hour, making it a challenge for

the fire crews there. the gusty winds will taper overnight tonight, only to pick back up again tomorrow afternoon/evening. hopefully they get a handle on the fire before tomorrow afternoon and as you look here, forecast definitely running monday rat near that area. when you check out the rest of the bay area, yes, we are looking at some areas of yellow, indicating high fire danger this weekend. i will be back with a complete look at the forecast coming up. dan, ama. >> thank, sandhya. in morgan hill firefighters will be watching hot spots overnight from a 100 acre fire on the north end of the city. the tilton started just before 3:00 this afternoon. you can see the smoke drifting over the homes on morgan hill webcam. this fire is just 5% contained for the third night in a row, the nuclear threat from north korea is front and center. president trump and north korean leader kim jong-un continue to trade barbs and tensions continue to rise. the president's latest promise saying the military is locked

evening on july 30th. these surveillance images were captured nearby outside the bart station. >> you are looking at a car fire that delayed commuters headed toward the tunnel in oakland. the car burst into flames near highway 13 just after 5:00 as the evening commute was getting under way. emergency vehicles blocked the two right lanes while crews fought the fire and a tow truck removed the car the effort to recall judge aaron persky is on hold tonight. supporters of the recall believe he has a pattern of bias in cases involving sex crimes and violence against women including the brock turner case. persky's lawyers obtained a new court order temporarily blocking the recall committee from collecting signature they say the petition was not properly certified by the state.
